Karunanidhi on Thursday sought to make a case for the formation of a separate \u2018Tamil Eelam&#8217; drawing parallels with Kosovo, South Sudan, East Timor and Montenegro, all nations that have come into being in recent years following the United Nations&#8217; intervention and referendums.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_39188\" style=\"width: 290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/karunanidhi-for-eelam-a-la-kosovo-south-sudan-the-hindu\/karunanidhi35503-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-39188\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39188\" class=\"size-full wp-image-39188\" title=\"karunanidhi35503\" src=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/karunanidhi35503.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"280\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-39188\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">M. Karunanidhi<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe song of freedom is ringing in the ears of Tamils across the world. The blood and tears shed by Sri Lankan Tamils will not go in vain. If not tomorrow, it will come into existence one day,\u201d he said in a statement here.<\/p>\n<p>The DMK had advocated the idea of a separate Eelam as early as 1983, and a resolution adopted in the general council meeting of the party on August 27 that year had stressed that \u201ca separate Tamil Eelam shall be the only remedy and permanent solution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt a public meeting on the Marina sands the next day, I said if the Indian Army entered Sri Lanka to create a Tamil Eelam, the Congress could rule the State and the DMK would not make efforts to come to power for the next 10 years,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n<p>He said though the then Sri Lankan President J.R.
