A few weeks back a prominent British newspaper claimed that Bollywood actress Nupur Metha had been used as a \u2018honey trap\u2019 during the World T-20 in England in 2009. The actress has denied the allegations.<\/p><\/div>\n

NEW DELHI: A day after TOI first reported on the alleged attempts by a section of bookies in Delhi and Mumbai to try and “fix” matches in the T20 World Championship to be held in Sri Lanka in September, officials from the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) of International Cricket Council (ICC) asked the Delhi Police’s crime branch to share details about the flight bookings allegedly made on behalf of the bookies.<\/p>\n

According to police sources, 170 people, including bookies and prostitutes, were booked to go to Sri Lanka before the T20 World Cup and meet up in Colombo to chalk out plans. Interestingly, all these bookings — made on three different flights — were made by the same travel agent for the same day. ACSU possesses a list of women who were to leave for Sri Lanka as ‘honey traps’ to lure bookies from major Indian cities. These names were shared with the Delhi Police at a meeting in April earlier this year.<\/p>\n

The Delhi police said they will hand out details to ACSU as it was a “more competent authority” to investigate the case. “We are looking only at the drug angle at present as no request from ICC has come to us to look into the match-fixing charges,” said an officer from the anti-extortion unit of crime branch. Sources in the crime branch said ACU officials had contacted the anti-extortion cell of the crime branch to get details about a Delhi-based pimp who was supposed to leave for Colombo along with eight girls on March 31 but later cancelled the bookings.<\/p>\n

The cops said they have already questioned the travel agent and collected the flight booking details. The ICC is trying to ensure that the World T20 tournament, which begins from September 18, is clean and played in the right spirit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
