UNP MP Dunesh Gankanda from the Ratnapura District who has gone hiding from the Police has surrendered to the Colpetty Police a short while ago through his lawyer the Police said. The MP was wanted in connection for causing grievous bodily harm on a businessman at a night club in Colombo last Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dunesh Gankanda walked up to N.V. Thivakaran, a Tamil businessman at The Museum club in Galle face hotel<\/span> <\/a>around 1.30am early morning on Sunday. Dunesh was accompanied by Capt. Senaka De Silva, a close aide of General Fonseka. Tivakaran was introduced by this mutual friend to Dunesh.<\/p>\n

Dunesh and Senaka free loaded alcohol on Tivakaran’s table. Thivakaran is a teetotaler but was entertaining some oversea clients and hence had bottles of alcohol on his table. Dunesh initially made small talk and then broached on the topic of Raju Radha his current wife Kushani Nannayakara’s Ex Husband. She is the daughter of Capt. and Mrs. Norma Nannayakara of Green Lanka Shipping Ltd.<\/p>\n

Raju Radha, the son of the famous Indian actor M R Radha, is the owner of HRC Shipping and other businesses. His sister Radhika is also a popular Indian actress. Their mother is Sri Lankan.<\/p>\n

When Tivakaran said he knew Raju well and Raju was a relative – out of the blue Dunesh lunged forward, bit Tivakaran’s nose and then disappeared into the Crowd in the night club. Thivakaran didn’t hit back although bleeding profusely and in pain.<\/p>\n

He got himself admitted to Gerenal hospital and had a surgery there. Sunday morning, he got himself discharged from General hospital and readmitted at Nawaloka where he underwent second surgery in the evening. He made a police complaint.<\/p>\n

Dunesh Gankanda has a history with violence under influence of alcohol. He has assaulted his mother’s sister, one member of MSD, one bodyguard, one female maid servant, etc. He threatened to assault his 17 and a half year step son two years ago and last month verbally assaulted his 17 and a half year step daughter, resulting in a possible legal issue between the Radha’s and the UNP MP.<\/p>\n

The family is attempting to resolve this matter without the intervention of the Police, but the businessman so far has\u00a0resisted\u00a0all pressure. The UNP leadership is aware of this disgraceful incident, but only closely watching the development with the Police without any\u00a0interference. Since the UNP leader Ranil Wickramasinghe is in New Zealand, the acting Leader John Amaratunghe, the former Minister of Interior in charge of the Police is currently in charge of the Party.<\/p>\n

Colombo Fort Magistrate has released Gankanda who was produced before the court over the assault, on bail.<\/p>\n
