{"id":46260,"date":"2012-06-26T06:57:32","date_gmt":"2012-06-26T06:57:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=46260"},"modified":"2012-06-29T04:34:26","modified_gmt":"2012-06-29T04:34:26","slug":"i-dont-know-you-dont-accuse-mod-gota-threatened-dr-nirmal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/i-dont-know-you-dont-accuse-mod-gota-threatened-dr-nirmal\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018I Don&#8217;t Know You, Don&#8217;t Accuse MOD\u2019 Gota Threatened Dr. Nirmal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Colombo Telegraph &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCatch the suspects and hand them over to the police\u201d the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Gotabhaya Rajapaksa told Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri, last Friday.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_46263\" style=\"width: 251px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/i-dont-know-you-dont-accuse-mod-gota-threatened-dr-nirmal\/gota-1-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-46263\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-46263\" class=\"size-full wp-image-46263\" title=\"Gota (1)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Gota-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"241\" height=\"237\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Gota-1.jpg 241w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Gota-1-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 241px) 100vw, 241px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-46263\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gotabhaya<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI received a call from Gotabhaya, \u00a0the conversation initially appeared to be cordial, though later it turned into a bitter exchange&#8221; the president of the Federation of University Teachers Associations (FUTA),Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri told Colombo Telegraph.<\/p>\n<p>Calling to Nirmal\u2019s home telephone re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/ensure-the-personal-security-of-dr-dewasiri-and-his-family-the-futa-asks-rajapaksa\/\">the threats Dr. Nirmal is receiving<\/a><\/span>, Gotabhaya said, he even didn\u2019t know who the Nirmal is and therefore accusing MOD is pointless. Dr. Nirmal replied Gotabhaya saying, whether he knows Nirmal or not is irrelevant and the MOD\u2019s job is to protect citizen\u2019s security\u201d Nirmal Ranjith\u2019s claims at the Friday press conference is \u201cdamaging MOD\u2019s reputation\u201d and\u00a0 asked him to \u201ccatch the suspects and hand them over to the police\u201d angry Gotabhaya threatened Nirmal.<\/p>\n<p>Dr.Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri is one of the few outspoken intellectuals who criticises Sri Lankan government regarding it\u2019s unlawful activities.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri is the only university teacher who\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">criticised Secretary to the Ministry of Defence regarding abduction and whitvanning<\/span>. \u00a0Speaking about abduction of Prema Kumara Gunarathnam and Dimutu Attigala he said \u201c the fist accused is the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, there is no Secretary of Defence post in Sri Lanka it\u2019s a lie. He is just another secretary to a Ministry.
