Col. Todd Breasseale said in a statement on Thursday that no drugs were given to detainees to facilitate interrogation.<\/p>\n<p><span>The 41-page report, obtained this week by website\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/truth-out.org\/news\/item\/10248-exclusive-department-of-defense-declassifies-report-on-alleged-drugging-of-detainees\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><span>Truthout<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0two years after it was requested, says many of the prisoners were given a relatively cheap, hard-boiled anti-psychotic drug called Haldol.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The product, first marketed in the 1960&#8217;s, is commonly used in psychiatric hospitals and emergency rooms and has a long list of side effects including depression, muscle contractions and suicidal behaviour.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The sedative can also cause heart attacks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One unnamed inmate told the inspector general he was given mysterious red and blue pills while on his way to Guantanamo from Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, in 2002.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_48176\" style=\"width: 478px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/guantanamo-bay-inmates-were-injected-with-mind-altering-drugs-and-interrogated-according-to-pentagon-report\/article-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-48176\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48176\" class=\"size-full wp-image-48176\" title=\"article-2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/article-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"468\" height=\"286\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/article-2.jpg 468w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/article-2-300x183.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 468px) 100vw, 468px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-48176\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Prison: In some cases, interrogators gave inmates at Guantanamo Bay, pictured, a flu shot but told them it was &#39;truth serum&#39;<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span>&#8216;At the time they said it was some candy,&#8217; he said, according to\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/dangerroom\/2012\/07\/gitmo?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=socialmedia&amp;utm_campaign=twitterclickthru\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><span>Wired<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After eating the &#8216;candy,&#8217; the prisoner said he felt in a &#8216;state of delusion&#8217; for several days.<\/span><span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In other cases, prisoners were given a flu shot but told they were being injected with &#8216;truth serum&#8217;, in what the report labels a &#8216;deliberate ruse&#8217;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Prisoners were rarely told what drugs they were being given or for what purpose it was being administered, the report found.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The revelations have raised questions about whether the medication could have resulted in prisoners making falsely incriminating statements.<\/span><span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Defending the drugging of inmates, the former commander of the Joint Medical Group at Guantanamo said in the report that &#8216;some detainees were involuntarily medicated to help control serious mental illnesses.&#8217;\u00a0<\/span><span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The inspector general added that an ethics committee had approved the policy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Daily Mail UK<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":48171,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2201],"tags":[2976,2977],"class_list":["post-48170","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-from-foreign-media","tag-guantanamo-bay-abuse-news","tag-guantanamo-bay-prison-injected-drugs-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
