{"id":54607,"date":"2012-09-20T07:35:50","date_gmt":"2012-09-20T07:35:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=54607"},"modified":"2012-09-22T11:38:16","modified_gmt":"2012-09-22T11:38:16","slug":"cultural-and-religious-places-being-denied-to-the-tamil-people-tna-to-un","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/cultural-and-religious-places-being-denied-to-the-tamil-people-tna-to-un\/","title":{"rendered":"Cultural And  Religious Places Being Denied To The Tamil People &#8211; TNA To UN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/\">Colombo Telegraph<\/a><\/span> &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The question of whether the Sri Lankan government is unequivocally committed to the implementation of the recommendations of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=LLRC&amp;x=5&amp;y=4\">LLRC<\/a><\/span> and the resolution adopted by the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=UNHRC&amp;x=6&amp;y=6\">UNHRC<\/a><\/span> at its sessions in March 2012 was raised by the Tamil National Alliance with the visiting\u00a0UN delegation this morning.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4074\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/tna-psc-and-the-danger-of-wrong-turnings\/sampanthan-1-colombo-telegraph-3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4074\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4074\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4074\" title=\"sampanthan 1-colombo telegraph\" src=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/sampanthan-1-colombo-telegraph.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4074\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">R Sampanthan<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A delegation of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=TNA&amp;x=6&amp;y=6\">Tamil National Alliance<\/a><\/span> met with Hanny Megally, Chief, Asia, Pacific, Middle East and North Africa Branch, Field Operations and Technical Cooperation Division of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and his team of officials today,\u00a020th September 2012 at the office of the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations, Subinay Nandy, who was also present. The TNA delegation comprised <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=R+Sampanthan&amp;x=6&amp;y=5\">R Sampanthan<\/a><\/span>, Mavai Senathirajah, Suresh Premachandran, Selvam Adaikalanathan, P Selvarajah and M A Sumanthiran, Members of Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Amongst the matters discussed were land issues relating to security zones, particularly Valikamam and Sampur where the displaced people have not been able to resettle, their lands being taken over for military purposes, lands being taken over ostensibly for development purposes and on which, persons of the majority community are being settled, cultural and religious places being denied to the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Tamil&amp;x=7&amp;y=6\">Tamil<\/a><\/span> people, issues relating to demilitarization, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=disappearances&amp;x=13&amp;y=6\">disappearances<\/a><\/span>, detenues, changes in the demographic composition in the North and the East, accountability and the evolution of an acceptable political solution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":4074,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2187,1],"tags":[2175,4916,4917,4914,4915],"class_list":["post-54607","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-most-popular","category-news","tag-religious-freedom-in-sri-lanka","tag-resolution-adopted-by-the-unhrc-on-sri-lanka","tag-tna-on-resolution-adopted-by-the-unhrc-sri-lanka","tag-visiting-un-delegation-and-tna-meeting","tag-visiting-un-delegation-to-sri-lanka"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
