Padmasiri to withdraw his signature from the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=impeachment+motion+against+the+Chief+Justice&amp;x=9&amp;y=2\">impeachment motion against the Chief Justice<\/a><\/span>, the Lakbima Sinhala daily reported today (03 November).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_58535\" style=\"width: 284px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/inauspicious-start-for-impeachment-motion-handed-over-at-auspicious-time\/mahinda-4\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-58535\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58535\" class=\"size-full wp-image-58535\" title=\"Mahinda\" src=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Mahinda.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"274\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Mahinda.jpg 274w, https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Mahinda-228x300.jpg 228w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 274px) 100vw, 274px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-58535\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Inauspicious Start<\/p><\/div>\n<p>LSSP sources confirmed the truth of the Lakbima story to Colombo Telegraph. A member of the Politbureau who spoke to Colombo Telegraph on the condition of anonymity said that the Politbureau had earlier decided that LSSP MPs should not sign the impeachment motion. However, after a meeting President <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Mahinda+Rajapaksa&amp;x=6&amp;y=6\">Mahinda Rajapakse<\/a><\/span> had with UPFA leaders, Minister <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Tissa+Vitarana&amp;x=11&amp;y=4\">Tissa Vitarana<\/a><\/span> who is also the Secretary of the LSSP had unilaterally instructed MP Padmasiri to sign the motion. At the Politbureau meeting held on 02nd November, members had been highly critical of the Minister for overriding a decision of the Party. Sources said that Minister Vitarana had been greatly embarrassed and had apologized for what happened. Thereafter, the Politbureau had instructed Mr Padmasiri to write to the Speaker and withdraw his signature.<\/p>\n<p>This episode comes in the wake of the Communist Party Special Congress that took place on 28 October resolving in a self-criticism that voting for the 18th Amendment was a mistake. On 02 November, the Politbureau of the CP had censured Minister Chandrasiri Gajadheera for signing the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice without its permission. Gajadheera had explained that Minister <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=DEW+Gunasekara&amp;x=12&amp;y=5\">DEW Gunasekera<\/a><\/span> had instructed him to do so.
