{"id":65108,"date":"2012-12-17T15:23:50","date_gmt":"2012-12-17T15:23:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=65108"},"modified":"2012-12-19T23:56:17","modified_gmt":"2012-12-19T23:56:17","slug":"two-supreme-court-judges-refuse-to-sit-with-shiranee-at-mondays-sittings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/two-supreme-court-judges-refuse-to-sit-with-shiranee-at-mondays-sittings\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Supreme Court Judges Refuse To Sit With Shiranee At Monday\u2019s Sittings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/\">Colombo Telegraph<\/a><\/span> &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hulfsdorp was agog today with the news that two Supreme Court judges\u00a0<strong>were\u00a0refused to sit with\u00a0<strong>Justice Shiranee Tillekewardene.<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_59159\" style=\"width: 182px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/supreme-court-declares-two-other-bills-unconstitutional\/justices-shiranee-tilakawardane-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-59159\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-59159\" class=\"size-full wp-image-59159\" title=\"Justices Shiranee Tilakawardane\" src=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Justices-Shiranee-Tilakawardane1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"172\" height=\"233\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-59159\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Justices Shiranee Tilakawardane<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Justice Tilakawardane was presiding over the bench listed to hear 26 cases at Court 502 of the Supreme Court. The other judges scheduled to sit were Justices Chandra Ekanayake and S.I. Imam. However when both judges did not make an appearance, Justice Tilakawardane who was the only judge in attendance was compelled to postpone all the cases scheduled for the day because of the<\/p>\n<p>Reportedly this refusal was over her testimony before the Parliamentary Select Committee which had engaged in an impeachment inquiry into Chief Justice <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Shirani+Bandaranayake&amp;x=15&amp;y=8\">Shirani Bandaranayake<\/a><\/span> and before which justice <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Shiranee+Tilakawardane&amp;x=11&amp;y=6\">Tillekewardene<\/a><\/span> had given damaging views against the Chief Justice.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Tillekewardene sat alone as a single judge and postponed all cases coming up before her. A lawyer who was involved in the anti impeachment protests stated to Colombo Telegraph that this was the silent protest that judges with a conscience should carry out against those who \u2018collaborate with the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Mahinda+Rajapaksa&amp;x=14&amp;y=6\">Mahinda Rajapaksa<\/a><\/span> in order to degrade the judiciary\u2019. &#8216;We should have had this happening a long time ago&#8217;, he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":59159,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,2187,1,2375],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-65108","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-colombotelegraph","category-most-popular","category-news","category-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
