{"id":65242,"date":"2012-12-18T11:49:56","date_gmt":"2012-12-18T11:49:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=65242"},"modified":"2012-12-20T09:53:50","modified_gmt":"2012-12-20T09:53:50","slug":"sc-ordered-copies-of-the-contempt-of-court-complaint-against-rajpal-be-distributed-to-all-sc-judges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/sc-ordered-copies-of-the-contempt-of-court-complaint-against-rajpal-be-distributed-to-all-sc-judges\/","title":{"rendered":"SC Ordered Copies Of The Contempt Of Court Complaint Against Rajpal Be Distributed To All SC Judges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/\">Colombo Telegraph<\/a><\/span> &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Supreme Court Justice Nimal Gamini Amaratunge today ordered that copies of the Contempt of Court complaint against Daily News Editor <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Rajpal+Abeynayake&amp;x=11&amp;y=3\">Rajpal Abeynayake<\/a><\/span> be distributed to all judges of the Supreme Court.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_65243\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/sc-ordered-copies-of-the-contempt-of-court-complaint-against-rajpal-be-distributed-to-all-sc-judges\/justice-nimal-gamini-amaratunge\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-65243\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-65243\" class=\"size-full wp-image-65243\" title=\"Justice Nimal Gamini Amaratunge\" src=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Justice-Nimal-Gamini-Amaratunge.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"266\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-65243\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Justice Amaratunge<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Complaint filed by Dr. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Sunil+Cooray&amp;x=9&amp;y=4\">Sunil Cooray<\/a><\/span>, through instructing attorney, Nilanthi De Silva is to be amended and resubmitted to Court on Friday (21).<\/p>\n<p>The current plaint pleads the court to issue summons on Abeynayake for the offence of contempt of the Supreme Court under Article 105(3) of the constitution of the country; Take the steps against\u00a0 the Accused as per the Article 105(3) of the Constitution on the offences of contempt\u00a0 of the Supreme Court for the defamatory statements referred in publication Daily News dated 03.12.12 and 04.12.12 ; An order restraining the Accused preventing him from publishing further Contemptuous statements\/articles scandalizing the Supreme Court and Her Ladyship the Chief Justice until the conclusion of this case; Impose sentence on the Accused as provided for in article 105(3) of the Constitution of the Republic of Sri Lanka; Issue a ruling on the Accused directing him to show cause as to why he should not be struck off the role of the Attorneys at Law; Make orders on the accused Attorney at Law in keeping with the rules of Professional ethics.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Amaratunge ordered in open court that the amended version of the plaint once resubmitted be distributed among all 11 judges of the Supreme Court.
