Mohan Peiris<\/p><\/div>\n

When the Supreme Court declared P B Jayasundara<\/a><\/span> guilty in February 2008, of having concealed facts concerning a high profile fraud and being party to a massive corruption, the Secretary to the President, Weeratunga, pleaded the Supreme Court with \u2018the President\u2019s desire to restore Jayasundara as the Finance Secretary\u2019. This request was acceded with no questions raised by the then CJ Asoka de Silva<\/a><\/span> with no single word in the judgement made against P B Jayasundara changed. Since then thanks to the \u2018upholding of the rule of law\u2019 by CJ Asoka de Silva, the government is now blessed with the \u2018services\u2019 of the best cheat, declared by the Supreme Court, in the most high profile office in the Public Finance.<\/p>\n

Surely, the Office of the CJ has a greater importance than the Finance Secretary and needed to be filled with a person with a \u2018proven character\u2019. The currant CJ<\/a><\/span> who ruled number of bills that violated the peoples\u2019 democratic rights and freedom, unconstitutional is surely not the right person for the job. And the government is determined to replace her with a most suitable person for the job and discovered, probably the most fitting person with best credential for the post, that is Mohan Peiris<\/a><\/span>, the former Attorney General and currently the \u2018Chief Legal Advisor\u2019 to the Cabinet of Ministers.<\/p>\n

Under the current political climate \u2018dishonestly\u2019 at its best is a must for the right candidate.\u00a0 Has Mohan Peiris possesses this character? Absolutely yes, the evidence in this regard is in abundance. Just read the last paragraph (para 7) of the Affidavit by the then Director General of Customs<\/a><\/span>, W D L Perera sent to the then CJ, seeking immediate removal of Mohan Peiris from the office of the Attorney-at-Law for professional misconduct and dishonesty.<\/p>\n

Above all, the innate character and capacity to deceive the entire judiciary and the whole nation play a pivotal role. Has this person earned this qualification during his career in the public service? Answer again is absolutely \u2018Yes\u2019. In this regards Mohan Peiris possesses a proven character above any other qualification required for the office of the CJ. Read the Director General of Customs, Sudharma Karunarathna\u2019s observations (paragraph 47, 48)<\/a><\/span>, referring to the Public Interest Litigation (SCFR\/536\/2010) now being heard before the Supreme Court. In this case the then AG Mohan Peiris is cited in his personal capacity as a Respondent – about the role he had played undermining the office of the Attorney General deceiving not only the Director General but the entire Judiciary in a matter where public funds running into over half a billion rupees had been defrauded with alleged knowledge and approval of the AG Mohan Peiris and his ally P B Jayasundara.<\/p>\n

The gullible people conned by the MR administration surely needed to be fed with more evidence to be convinced. Read the paragraph Nos 30 to 40 of the Petition in the Case SCFR\/536\/201<\/a><\/span>, which surely demonstrates that Mohan Peiris is the only fitting candidate for the office of the Chief Justice in the lawless dictatorship under President Mahinda Rajapakse.<\/p>\n

This is food for thought for all right-thinking politicians, if any, particularly in the \u2018so-called leftist parties\u2019 serving in the current Parliament that surrendered its legislative power to the Executive President and simply do noting but act according to the whims and fancies of the President who is mad and blinded with absolute power.<\/p>\n
