{"id":70545,"date":"2013-01-21T11:38:29","date_gmt":"2013-01-21T11:38:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?p=70545"},"modified":"2013-01-28T15:40:39","modified_gmt":"2013-01-28T15:40:39","slug":"a-swift-first-step-ag-appeals-sc-decision-over-turned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/a-swift-first-step-ag-appeals-sc-decision-over-turned\/","title":{"rendered":"A Swift First Step: AG Appeals SC Decision Over Turned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/\">Colombo Telegraph<\/a><\/span> &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Attorney General today appealed to the Supreme Court to appoint a five judge bench to reconsider the ruling given by a three judge bench last month to allow lead to proceed in a case where three petitioners had asked that Parliamentary standing order 78A- under which Chief Justice <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Shirani+Bandaranayake&amp;x=8&amp;y=3\">Shirani Bandaranayake<\/a><\/span> was tried and impeached &#8211; be declared null and void, the Sunday Times reports.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_70547\" style=\"width: 149px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/a-swift-first-step-ag-appeals-sc-decision-over-turned\/attorney-general\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-70547\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70547\" class=\" wp-image-70547 \" title=\"Attorney General\" src=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Attorney-General.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"139\" height=\"176\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-70547\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Attorney General<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The newspaper said; &#8220;Senior Lawyer <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=MA+Sumanthiran&amp;x=11&amp;y=2\">MA Sumanthiran<\/a><\/span> who appeared for the petitioners in the earliar Supremem Court case said the new Chief Justice <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/?s=Mohan+Pieris&amp;x=9&amp;y=4\">Mohan Peiries<\/a><\/span> had not been legitimately appointed and was a usurper.
