The police officer, handling the investigation into the assassination of former PA MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, had been transferred.<\/p>\n

The Colombo Telegraph has learnt that Assistant Superintendent of Police\u00a0 \u00a0Hettiarachchi \u00a0Samudrajeewa was transferred out of Criminal Investigation Department and ordered to report Mount Lavinia police station.<\/p>\n

Yesterday denying allegations, Cabinet Spokesman and Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said CID officers who were investigating the Mulleriyawa shooting incident have not been transferred.<\/p>\n

Responding to a query from the Media at the weekly Cabinet press briefing the Minister said, the CID was continuing inquiries with no interference. He further said there was no need to take MP Duminda Silva into custody over the Mulleriyawa shooting incident considering his medical status.
\nIt was difficult to handcuff or tie a person who is unconscious on a hospital bed, the Minister said.
\nThe Minister pointed out that stern action has already been taken against the people who were engaged while ten suspects were arrested connected to the incident.
\nHe also said the government assured that prompt and stern action would be taken against the drug dealers and gangsters to end this trend completely from the country.<\/p>\n
