Dr.Sivalingam Sivananthan, a distinquished old boy of Jaffna Hindu College (1968 -75) and currently professor of physics at the University of Illinois Chicago and founder of Sivananthan Laboratories in Bolingbrook, USA, has been named a White House Champion of Change, an honour that recognizes immigrant entrepreneurs. He was given this honor at a ceremony at the White House on May 29th 2013.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Sivananthan\u2019s work with a semiconductor material, mercury cadmium telluride or MCT, is at the heart of night vision technology and made the raid that took down Osama Bin Laden on a moonless night possible. Developing \u201ctechnology that protects our protectors\u201d has given him the opportunity to give back to his adopted country, said Sivananthan.<\/p>\n

The honor recognizes immigrant innovators and entrepreneurs\u2014\u201dthe best and brightest from around the world who are helping create American jobs, grow the economy and make our nation competitive in the world,\u201d the White House said in a press release.<\/p>\n
