The standing committee of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka on Rule of Law wants the\u00a0Inspector General of Police to take\u00a0immediate action on the\u00a0attack on\u00a0a beef stall at Tangalle<\/a><\/span> in broad daylight in the presence of the police and the public by the Sinhala Ravaya<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

“It is our view that individuals however powerful they may be cannot be permitted to take the law on to themselves and act in breach of Rule of Law. ” it’s\u00a0Convener\u00a0Priyantha Gamage today wrote to the IGP;<\/p>\n

Attack on Beef Stall at Tangalle<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The standing committee of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka on Rule of Law expresses its deep concern that the police has not taken any meaningful action as required under law to apprehend and prosecute the persons set to be members of the group calling themselves Sinhala Ravaya who were involved in the attack on a beef stall at Tangalle in broad daylight in the presence of the police and the public.\u00a0 This is not the first instance that serious crimes has been committed in the presence of the police and the public.<\/p>\n

Incidents of this nature creates mistrust and loss of confidence in the law enforcement authorities of the state and will lead to a complete breakdown of the Rule of Law.<\/p>\n

It is our view that individuals however powerful they may be cannot be permitted to take the law on to themselves and act in breach of Rule of Law.<\/p>\n

We condemn the lethargy of the police and call upon you as the head of the police to take immediate action on this matter.<\/p>\n
