Responding to a news item published in the Colombo Telegraph<\/em> which was later reproduced by Colombo based The Sunday Leader <\/em>on October 16, 2011, former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge says \u201cshe wish to completely dissociate herself from the comments of a personal nature directed at the Rajapaksa family.\u201d<\/p>\n

The relevant news Item published in the Colombo Telegraph<\/em> quote a leaked US diplomatic cable. The Colombo Telegraph<\/em> found the leaked cable from the WikiLeak database. The cable classified as \u201cCONFIDENTIAL\u201d and recount details of a meeting ambassador Patricia A. Butenis has had with former President Chandrika Kumaratunga on 14th<\/sup>\u00a0December 2009.<\/p>\n

The US Ambassador wrote to Washington \u201cPresident Kumaratunga found the Rajapaksa family involvement in politics very distasteful and called them \u2018uneducated and uncultured rascals.\u2019 She worried that the political climate since her term had become \u201cvindictive and threatening\u201d and that Rajapaksa had \u2018muddied the thinking\u2019 of masses.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The former President Kumaratunga says\u201d This refers to a dispatch purportedly sent by the US Ambassador in Colombo to the US State Department appearing in WikiLeaks. I\u2019m totally unaware of the existence of such a dispatch. It is a fact that when I meet foreign Ambassadors in Colombo, as well as leaders of other countries at various international events we do discuss matters of common interest, such as world affairs, the situation in their countries and mine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is possible that in giving an analysis of Sri Lankan situation. I would have stated some of the facts carried in the said news item about the overall situation in the country \u2013 which are facts that any objective person knows to be correct. However, I wish to completely dissociate my self from the comments of a personal nature directed at the Rajapaksa family.\u201d she further says.<\/p>\n
