What I Owe the People of the Vanni<\/a><\/span>\u201d &#8211; \u00a0CT of Feb 7, 2013<\/li>\n<li>\u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colombotelegraph.com\/index.php\/a-plea-to-the-pundits-seek-truth-accountability-and-justice\/\">A Plea to the Pundits: Seek Truth, Accountability, and Justice<\/a><\/span>\u201d &#8211; CT of April 26, 2013<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Friends, Sinhalese, countrymen, lend me you ears;<\/p>\n<p>I come to bury the Nation of the Tamils and the People of the Vanni, not to praise them.<\/p>\n<p>The evil that men do lives after them,<\/p>\n<p>The good is oft interred with their bones;<\/p>\n<p>So let it be with the Nation of the Tamils and the People of the Vanni.\u00a0 The noble Sri Lankan government and the noble Sri Lankan military<\/p>\n<p>Hath told you the Nation of the Tamils and the People of the Vanni were ambitious, separatists and terrorists;<\/p>\n<p>If it were so, these were grievous faults,<\/p>\n<p>And grievously hath the Nation of the Tamils and the People of the Vanni answered it.<\/p>\n<p>Here, under leave of the Sri Lankan government and the rest,&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>For the Sri Lankan government and the Sri Lankan military are honorable men;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>So they all, all honorable men,&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Come I to speak in the funeral of the Nation of the Tamils and the People of the Vanni.<\/p>\n<p>They were my people, faithful and just to me:<\/p>\n<p>But the Sri Lankan government and the Sri Lankan military say they were ambitious, separatists, and terrorists;<\/p>\n<p>And the Sri Lankan government and the Sri Lankan military are honorable people.<\/p>\n<p>They (the Nation of the Tamils and the People of the Vanni) worked with diligence and honor<\/p>\n<p>Whose bountiful resources the general coffers did fill:<\/p>\n<p>Did this in the Nation of the Tamils and the People of the Vanni seem ambitious, separatist and terrorist?<\/p>\n<p>When that the Singhalese have cried, the Tamils have wept;<\/p>\n<p>Ambition, separatism, and terrorism should be made of sterner stuff:<\/p>\n<p>Yet the Sri Lankan government and the Sri Lankan military say that they were ambitious, separatists, and terrorists;<\/p>\n<p>And the Sri Lankan government and the Sri Lankan military are honorable men.<\/p>\n<p>You all did see that for 30 years and more, the Tamils took all the slings and arrows without a qualm or retaliation for their just cause of equal citizenship<\/p>\n<p>Through this all, the trust they placed in the solemn agreements, the Banda-Chelva, Dudley-Chelva Pacts and all were broken<\/p>\n<p>Yet the Sri Lankan government and the Sri Lankan military say they were ambitious, separatists, and terrorists<\/p>\n<p>And, sure, they are honorable men.<\/p>\n<p>I speak not to disprove what the Sri Lankan government and Sri Lankan military say,<\/p>\n<p>But here I am to speak what I do know.<\/p>\n<p>You all did live with the Nation of the Tamils and the People of the Vanni once, not without cause:<\/p>\n<p>What cause withholds you then to mourn for them?<\/p>\n<p>O judgment, thou art fled to brutish beasts,<\/p>\n<p>And men have lost their reason.\u00a0 Bear with me;<\/p>\n<p>My heart is in the coffin there with the Nation of the Tamils and the People of the Vanni,<\/p>\n<p>And I must pause till it come back to me.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But yesterday the de-facto Nation of the Tamils and the People of the Vanni might<\/p>\n<p>Have stood against the world; now lie they there,<\/p>\n<p>And none so poor to do them reverence.<\/p>\n<p>O masters, if I were disposed to stir<\/p>\n<p>Your hearts and minds to mutiny and rage,<\/p>\n<p>I would do the Nation of the Tamils and the People of the Vanni wrong, and the International Community wrong,<\/p>\n<p>Who, you all know, are honorable men.<\/p>\n<p>I will not do them wrong;
