Yureni Apologized, Sirisena Did Not

Whereas young TV host Yureni Noshika had the guts to apologize to those who may have been offended by her choice of attire, President Maithripala Sirisena is yet to apologize to the public for encouraging his children to abuse privileges, critics point out.

Yureni

Yureni

Sirisena has so far failed to make a statement regarding his daughter Chathurika using her father’s position to drag state officials on a personal trip. Neither has he explained the presence of his son Daham‘s presence in the Sri Lankan delegation to the sessions of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He has not apologized to the public for these excesses that are antithetical to his rhetoric on putting an end to nepotism.

Yureni caught a lot of flak from the social media ‘culture police’ for what was neither an illegal nor indecent act. Nevertheless, she called it a ‘mistake’. She had the courage and the humility to make a public statement.

The actions of the presidential progeny in contrast are illegal as well as distasteful considering Sirisena’s solemn pledges not to go the ‘Rajapaksa Way’.

Two days ago Leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Anura Kumara Dissanayake told Colombo Telegraph that if President Maithripala Sirisena is still serious about pledges made to the people on January 8th on good governance, rule of law, doing away with nepotism and favoritism, he has to make a clear statement regarding his son Daham‘s presence with the Sri Lankan delegation at the sessions of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Specifically, he said that the President has to explain why he took his son to New York and in what capacity. Dissanayake referring to the fact that Daham had stated that he was representing his mother at the UNGA and that he was a ‘youth representative’, said that in the event that President Sirisena cannot defend these statements, then both father and son as well as the Foreign Ministry have to tender an unqualified apology to the people of Sri Lanka.

    Rubbish, Rubbish, total rubbish,
How do you dare to compare a Media Presenter with the President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka
High time that Colombo Telegraph stop this nonsense of ridiculing journalism,
Colombo Telegraph demanding directly for a apology from First Family is totally different, but because someone had apologized for an attire mistake and, expecting The President to follow that wrong attired person is an absolute ridiculing of President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

Unless I’m missing something, what the hell is wrong
    with Colombo Telegraph?

    Is there any relevance here?

Nothing is wrong with Colombo Telegraph: Independent Media is there to criticize leaders whenever they step out of line.

Do you remember Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton, two most powerful leaders on Earth during their times, were torn to pieces for their miss-deeds?

CT is pointing out the obvious violation of good governance promised by the President and his government when it is openly flouted.

Do the commentators who criticize the CT want appe aanduwa(our rule!) of the Sirisena family after replacing the appe aanduwa of Mahinda family?

So long as the Sinhala leaders and the Sinhalese people have the mentality of appe aanduwa there will be no good governance; and no solution to the ethnic problem!

        Thiru,

        I’m not referring to Sirisena’s
        indiscretions, but the ludicrous
piece of journalism that CT have come up with!
Did someone at CT desperately want to put a pic of her
on this website as publicity for her?!
        Seems the only explanation…

    1) To those who are happy that MS is making these mistakes: Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. (Napoleon Bonaparte)

    2) To those who are unhappy that MS is making these mistakes: Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new. (Albert Einstein)

Perhaps one day our hero may conquer the hearts and minds of all Sri Lankans the way that Napoleon conquered parts of Europe or he may win the Nobel Prize just as Einstein did.

Just give him time, OK? He is just trying new things.

Didn’t MS beat MaRa MaRa Chatu MaRa twice his way?

MS is likely to win more times than he loses. What about the UN and the War Crimes? That Fizzled for the UN prosecutors who were after the war criminals.

why should MY3 apologize, yes he came with the promise, that’s only for the election. As the supreme leader of this country why can’t his son represent SL at the UN. He is not any body-He is Daham Sirisena. You all decided to vote for him and now say that he cannot do what he wants to do. If a president cannot take his son to the UN, send his daughter with officers to look into peoples problem, if he cannot appoint his brother as the chief of SLT – whats the point in being a president. Grow up people- don’t be silly. We have a big job – to put all MR supporters behind bars(those who donot support MY3), and to earn enough money for the next election, open your eyes and see people this is not nepotism, can’t you understand, you must learn to use the opportunity. be sensible and fair by MY3. you all gave the chance to MR-its only fair that MY# should get what is due to him. Do not oppose MY3, because if you continue he may have no other option than to go for white vans (if you don’t like the color well may it black van) People please learn don’t put MY3 into difficult condition, he is a man who risked his life and his familys life (you may not have forgotten that he had to go into a faraway estate soon after the elections, almost hiding ), don’t be so ungrateful, MY3 is a person who put his entire life on line for you. Even Daham did the same. And the daughter (what ever her name is)

Are you really talking from your mouth or from somewhere else? People didn’t like the way MR was doing things and wanted a change and elected MY3. If he is doing the same as the previous president then where is the change people expected? As per your argument a President can do whatever he wishes and no one should question about it. This is where MR went wrong, and if MY3 continues it then his downfall is not far away too.

About tendering apologies, it must come out automatically the moment it is realised,
to be genuine. Comparing a Tv Host with a President of a State is not a fair
comparison. There are many a mistake that has occured under so called Good Governance
and to await aplolgies is too much for out kind of Politics!

We have had several years, no decades of misrule and we have hope that My3/RW will do better than all the governments in the last few decades. Tell me, whet OPTION do we have? Go back to MR and Co.? We are so impatient and arrogant that we loose good and realistic judgment.

Somebody is trying to discredit President Maithripala Sirisena but if this is the best you can come up with, his continued good future is assured. This is such a non-story, I doubt he is even aware of it.

CT does not have to discredit Maithri, he is doing it all by himself. He has appointed so many of MR’s scoundrels that it will be very difficult for Ranil to pursue good democratic government.

Sira is not only committed to democracy and
    accountability, he’s also committed very
seriously to nurture and protect 2500 yr old
prouder culture which doesn’t have ‘Thank you
or Sorry brought to us by the English. It will
probably take many centuries before we get that
generous and until then ‘Hoyya Putha Hoyya.’

I am really confused with CT these days ,i had mailed a very important photograph of a huge lot of sticking garbage dumped in Mt.lavania 2 minutes walking distance to the main touristic beach front and touristic hotels surrounding the place and it was totally ignored ,something am sure even the President and the rest of the citizens would have appreciated , previously CT was a champion of the citizen not just shopping for cheap political bananas , but coming hard on real journalism ,covering anything and everything that had an negative impact on the people of Sri lanka .

But it seems either CT is bored , or CT has no more good journalists to write and report real stories.

It is almost a month that i send in the picture and unfortunately even action TV did nothing about it.

This smells sham ….. then it was Mahinda and his clan ,now it is how , what and everything ,what Sirisena and clan is up to, what a shamy journalism unfortunately CT is now heading to.

will we still see my garbage Picture although it may be gone by now,, and why was that two severely critical medias like Ct and action TV never published the story ? smells very fishy ..

What is the matter with the bandas, Nainas ,Sumanas and musalama tha dathas . first it was wrong to be fully covered for women and now it is wrong to be partially covered , I do not call this Young women brave ,in fact she far from it, she is a damn hypocrite ,who can not hold her bra & panties firmly , and to compare the exposure of her flesh to incite men with controllable carnal greed with a simpleton Like Sirisena , his refined son and daughter with our proud Sri Lankan respectable attire ,what a way to blow it to such unreasonably ugly attacks and make it such a crime for asking some protection for The president’s daughter to go and interact with the people of the nation to know their grievance, and further to make it such a crime for the president’s son to accompany the father … and then to compare a women who went half naked and then ,just because she did not have the stomach to stand by her conviction , just because it pushed her to bow to the pressure of the usual narrow minded bullies of thumpaney, and she conveniently choose hypocrisy to give in to the bullies ,does not give Ct or anyone the right to compare the circumstances and the family of a cultured Sinhalese ,with cheap con artists on stages .

This is not about comparing apples with oranges ,it like asking the chef to serve castrated balls on toast
