  1. very interesting for the US and Europe to condemn GOSL,what about all the civilian who died, because of LTTE?anyway,if the GOSL commited 20 T0 30,000 troupes to NATO to fight in Iraq or AFganistan, will the US be happy?Im sure everything will be fine and they will commend MR for eradicating terrorism…Hypocracy nothing else.

  2. Wasantha you are right. They are sneaking out of Afghanistan and Iraq claiming that they have achived what they went there for. Rubbish. The US and NATO forces are running away like they did in Vietnam.
Furthermore we should not pay any attention to this “Vagina smeller”. He is wanted in Sri Lanka for murder. Brian, is you are a man face those people you have so much to say and say what you want to. I will be in Brisbane and I will look for you.

  3. What are these heartless, shameless Rajapakshe and his scrooges scared of? If he thinks his military is so clean what is stopping him from coming out of his cave and face the world? These are serious allegations. If he is not guilty of these war crimes why can’t he get to the bottom of these and get the truth? Because he is on a guilt trip!..As guilty as hell! Everything his government says is a lie! Blatant lies. these governments have been lying through their teeth since 1948. There can be no peace or national unity without reconciliation and reconciliation has to be based on Truth and Accountability. Can a war be fought with “zero civilian casualties”? That’s exactly what the “poisonous snake” Gotapaya said. Then, when the truth started emerging he added” may be 7,8 civilians could have been killed”. Little by little,Now he is at 8,000 casualties..Soon he will accept he had killed over 140,000 innocent civilians…Liars! Mass Murderers!!. He must be the only person in the world to legitimize an attack on hospitals. Even the notorious dictator Hitler never hit a single hospital..

LLRC’s findings stand in stark contrast to those of the UN Panel of Experts..LLRC report is a joke..Even the LLRC’s useful (one or two GoSL was forced to add them)recommendations seem destined to join those of other Sri Lankan commissions that got filed away and ignored. If they have no intention of implementing anything that the commission says, why set up the commission in the first place? to cheat the world???

Weerawansa is an animal in human form and Brian S is an Angel in human from. God bless Brian!

  5. Just to thank you so much for publishing ,my dreadfully long article. i am just a doctor of Medicine, not a journalist. A journalist could have put this in a few words – not reams and reams of it as i have. i did not think that any paper on God’s earth would have published it, the first in the world to do so, as far as i am aware

My particular thanks to your paper located where you are. That calls for enormous courage, which i admire and appreciate.. Its easy for me to write all this stuff from the safety of Australia but to publish it there is another story.

i am touched by Mr Casie Chetty’s comment re me. BUT i want him and your other readers to know that it is members of MY family, the Bandaranaikes, that started all this rot in 1956. I am not an angel but someone with a huge guilt complex for all that my family, all three of them at one time or another, Heads of State, have done to what could have been God’s chosen place instead of which, thanks to the Bandaranaikes, Jayawardenes and, of course, the Rajapaksas (who have outdone all of them put together) have made a Hell on Earth, and the Killing Fields of Asia – if not worse – a Totalitarian State under one family – Dynastic Rule. by some act of God, i am not related to the Rajapaksas

This dreadful state will end, that for sure. Despite the fact that i am no historian i know that no Dictatorship has ever lasted forever – not even that of Mussolini, Hitler or Stalin (or, more recently, Gadaffi).

May God be with your Paper since the Media play a crucial role as you will see in the article i am struggling to complete before the curtain falls “The Totalitarian State in Sri Lanka. The demise of Democracy”

i am sure i will get heaps of emails and telphone calls from ‘patriotic Sinhalese’ calling me a traitr ot a Sinhala-Skinned F……ing Tamil Tiger bastard (it always happens after every article i write. i am kept awke for 3 days with phone calls all night at 15 minute intervals to make sure i dont sleep. this is usually in ‘fish market’ language. i reply in the Queens English thanking them for remainig a wake to call me. i rather enjoy it.

    • Dr Brian Senewiratne is wrong. He suggests that he has been invoved in human rights since 1956 (when his uncle, S.W.R.D.Bandaranaike started discrimination against the Tamils – the Official Language Act.
That is not correct. Dr Senewiratne was invoved in all this long befor this. It goes back to 1948 when as a 16 year old school boy in St Thomas’College Mt Lavinia, he organised a protest when the Plantation (Indian) Tamils were disenfranchised and decitizenided. Two weeks later, he was invited to address a public protest on the Green behind the Mt Lavinia Hotel where some 2,000 people had gathered to protest at this outrage. he addressed the meeting and spoke for 15 mintes. The crowd erupted with applause as this 16 year old kid poured out his heart.
Returning to Kandy (from the UK) as Associate Professor of Medicine, he started again, focussing on the Plantation Tamils and the dreadful conditions they worked in, and challenged his aunt, Sirima bandaranaike, to do something about it.
He ran a medical clinic (free) on a Sunday, to treat these marginales people. the Perdeniya University refused him permission to use even the Church premises for this humaniarian act. So he work from under a tree ust outside the University campus.
He is the only doctor that i am aware of who has done extensive humanitarian work focussing attention on these downtrodden people
This is just to get the record straight. My mother worked in his Reserch Laboratory which is how i know all this.

  8. Thank you Max Silva for what you write about me. Let me reply using the Queens English and nor get in the gutter of abusive language tou use.

“CT have you gone nuts to post such a long long piece?” Colombo Telegraph does not need to get your permission to publish any article – long or short, shit or not.

“of shit” Well, respond to it sentence by sentence and prove that what has been written is excreta

“written by a nut?” That is an your opinin which, of course, you are entiled to,to express

“Who is this Dr Brian character?” i can clarify this. Qualified in Cambridge and London (paid for by parents). Rose up the medical laddere in the UK. Voluntarily returend to Sri Lanka at the pricely salary Rs 9,500 a YEAR as Senior Lecturer on Medicine and later Clinical Professor of Medicne University of Pradeniya. Emigrated to Australia when told that Sri Lanka did not need a ‘troublemaker” (ne who asked the hard questions)and a “”Black Engishman” as Professor of Medicine because I refused to teach Medicine in Sinhalese since I felt is would train substadard doctors. Took up a post as Associate Professor of Medicine Unoversity of Queensland, and Senior Specialist Physician, and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane,

“Hope the bugger” That is defamation unless you can prove it.

” is not a quack”. There is no evidence that i am as shown by a very busy Medical practice in Brisbane.

” .This jerk ” . The Oxford dictionary and Medical textbooks descibe his as involuntay spasmodic moevements which i do not have.

“must have definitely got quite a lot of money” No i don’t which is why i am still working at 80. if you mean writing what i do for payment, i earn enough money in Medicine to survive. i do not need to write (crap or otherwise) to do so.

” for writing this sort of crap” It does not need money to write anything, crap or not. All you need is committment and resolve. if you mean payment, i have already answered this.

” Don’t have the time to go through this type of shit” i am not sure how how it is ‘shit’ if you have not read it..

“.Better admit this old bag to Angoda mental hospital”. Not possible because Angoda is in Sri Lanka. in any case, the decision to admit a patient to a hospital is a MEDCAL decision whichyou are not qualified to make.

“Make sure the bugger” Defamation again.

” is given tons of blank paper and dozens of pens” I don’t neediven these,. I can buy them (and I do) = they are readily availabel and quite cheap.

Any more questions? If there are, try and stick to standard English avoiding abusive language

In conclusion, I thank CT for publishing this abuse – which i have to cope with daily from true Sinhalese patriots struggling to defend the indefensible and keeping me awake night after night with abusive phone calls. Why do Sinhales have to get into abusive language? I really do not know. But it does not upset me. I reply in non-abusive language rather than put the phone down. It gives me great pleasure to reply clamly and poni by point at abuse.

Its only when they get into defamation, that I act eg when I am called a “Mother F….g Tamil Tiger Prick” that i get excited. Even then, I point out that what is being caimed is anatomically impossible. some of these patriotic Sinhalese are quite intersting – to say the least.

    • Hello Dr. Seneviratne,

I’m not sure whether psychiatry is quite your cup of tea, but perhaps you could put together an analysis of the psychosis that characterizes the Sinhala-nationalist mindset. In particular, why it is so resistant to change, it’s suspicion of all things Western, and of course, the ingrained hostility to Tamils.

    • I am not a member of the medical profession by any means, but I recall trying to explain to an ardent Sinhalese nationalist as to why medicine cannot be taught in the Sinhalese medium. One of his more interesting rebuttals was that Ayurvedic physicians were performing eye “surgery” during what I presume to be prehistoric times. The fact of the matter is that many of these people are simply out of touch with reality, not least of all, the fact that many believe Sri Lanka’s ancient history is still relevant for the present and future. The entire educational curriculum needs to be revamped; Sri Lankans (in Sri Lanka) are desperately in need of new ideas, especially those that emanate from the West.

  9. Dr. Brian Seneviratne,
The time and trouble you have taken to do the fact finding and for the analysis and writing is appreciated.
Although I do not condone insults & abuse to your most learned self, especially in an on-line opinion forum, not all your information can be agreed with for the majority of the Sri Lankans. Although I do not condone it, this may be the reason for all those disturbing phone calls at night. Your lack of sleep due to the Sinhalese phone calls is very much regretted and may be pretty much obvious.

It is most unfortunate that there is an entire ‘other’ side which you have left behind either due to lack of space, length of article, personal beliefs or aversion.

Again, this is no reason to take umbrage since everyone has the right to pursue what they believe is right and correct. What is puzzling is that this entire process is lopsided. Your unquestioning following in the footsteps of the West and everything it entails and it has spelt out for the world and its present oredicaments thus far however, cannot be condoned, considering your education and standing in society.

There is a variety of actors in this entire consortium of UNHRC farce. They appear to be driven by various Agendas. There is nothing wrong in that except for the factors such as some of that motivation may be propelled by the root of all evil and silence on some issues and vociferousness on some other issues, deviousness of timing, selfish & dangerous national interests, geopolitical realities, etc. of the parties concerned. People no longer naively accept that the UNHRC is all about Human Rights.

My request is that you kindly take the time and trouble to right another article about all that we cannot leave behind. In that case, I do believe it will balance off this lengthy discourse and you will probably also have better sleep since it may put a fulstop to the Sinhalese phone calls that are keeping you awake at night.

  12. What has been said by Dr. Brian Senewiratne is factual. The Sinhalese of yore have been a very tolerant lot of natives who have accommodated other faiths and ethnicities although they may have been fostered on the country by outside forces that invaded. Yet they have lived and let lived. It is for this reason that in Kandy the YMCA and the Meeramakkam mosque stands on Buddhist temple peoperty. The Sinhalese attitudes and nature changes once the Portuguese colonise the low country areas where the so called Sinhalese acquire Portuguese blood and their names. Today these cross breeds believing they are the Sinhalese with Portuguese names are in the fore front trying to save this country. In this blog a character like Max Silva is of that breed. Imagine the indented labour brought in by the British in addition to having toiled in the Tea Plantations for generations to keep the Sri Lankan economy afloat, their last three generations have worked in the Plantation Raj’s houses as servants and cooks, thereafter as servants of the affluent so called Sinhalese houses in the urban cities and today they too aspire to become Academica and Professionals in the system. With this kind of mind set of the so called Sinhalese do they have a chance? I wonder! In the US although there is corruption and the US citizens are taken for a ride by the Jews syndicate that run the US, still it has been possible for the progeny of the slaves to become the President of the US. Imagine the chances of our down trodden becoming the president of this country leave alone even a non Biddhist having a chance?

      • Mr. Max Silva, China can’t even build a car that survives a 40 mph crash.

The first crash-test performed on a Chinese car.

The JMC Landwind was the first to be tested by the renowed German institute, ADAC Motorwelt.

        This is what happened:

        http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/4733/01020517594002jd.jpg

Conclusion: IMPOSSIBLE TO SURVIVE IN A CRASH AT 60km/h (40 Mph).

This car as you can see, is a Chinese copy, obviously a very bad copy of an Opel Frontera (Isuzu Rodeo).

Der Spiegel on line, said the ADAC Motorwelt (German Automobile club) claimed that it’s the worst car they have ever tested in their history (maybe a bit of exaggeration but who knows..), ADAC now is asking for a ban on the European market.

Maybe your goal is to support Horapakse and get a breadcrumb; my goal is (has always been) for SL to become the next Singapore. Unfortunately if there is so much corruption at the top, it will spread to the lower levels. That is why it is vital to get rid of the village bugger and his jumbo cabinet as soon as possible. • I did not bring the Chinese to S. Lanka. It is the village chief who did that. Before a development project commences, there is a bidding process for tenders. In many instances, Horapakse has bypassed even the bidding process. The contract was simply handed to the Chinese with no questions asked, in exchange for a *special* commission. Now I have asked you who will benefit from these low-quality Chinese products in the future (other than Horapakse’s Swiss bank account). It is a miracle that S. Lanka survived the last tsunami; most likely because the tsunami did not affect the Western Province. Given the poor quality of Sri Lankan engineering, if a tsunami hits Colombo, that will be the permanent end of the “Miracle of Asia.” Horapakse thinks he can fool the people with Chinese-made expressways, ports, and roads. Well, we will see if that is the case eventually. If they can survive even one natural disaster, then Horapakse will have my vote for the next election.

Then the Buddha Sasana has to be saved from the labeled Buddhists and Rogues in Robes. Today although the US pretending to take to task the MR govt. they will not do anything drastic to unseat MR as he is their brief carrier. India having connived with the US to stage the War to get this Humbug of MR as a war victor to polarise the Sinhalese to wipe all other opposition in order that they could have obtained devolution to the NE through MR, is unable due to the presence of Ranil Wickremasinghe in the political scene. If not MR will be laughing all the way. Now the US is trying to act as if they are trying to get MR to reconcile and India does not know which way to turn.

Here in the USA we have a store called “Walmart” that sells the Chinese crap 24/7. One time I bought a lamp (made in China) and kept it in the bathroom; strange dark brown spots began appearing on the ceiling and walls. Once I removed the lamp, the spots disappeared. I also have experience with assembling Chinese-made furniture – again, total crap. Sometimes the screws are missing. Other times the metal is unable to withstand much weight. So I will tell you with certainty that whatever the buggery China is building in SL now, all of it will begin to fall apart within the next 10 years.

By the way, you accuse me of being an LTTE supporter and fan of Velu. In fact, I am a supporter of the UNP. Ranil W. was not the best guy to have during the war time, but he is definitely superior to the village chief, when it comes to foreign diplomacy and economics.

  16. Max Silva, I believe you belong to the category that when the US thought the time was rife to settle the LTTE war, as the US wants to enter into the markets of India and China consisting of over 3.5 billion people when they found it was difficult to get devolution to the NE through RW as it would have been opposed by MR and crowd they then turn to the devil himself for the job. How MR got elected over RW with the help of VP is no secret. If RW had given 1/3 of land mass and 2/3 of shore front through the CFA, why VP did not help to elect RW and seal the deal. Instead VP helped MR because at the behest of the US as the plan was different. Thereafter electing MR as President, VP went on to sabotage the CFA talks. Why sabotage the CFA if that gave the LTTE the NE on a platter where RW is alleged as a Traitor? Thereafter the LTTE close the Mawilaru Anicut and draw the govt. forces to a staged War Drama. Then the LTTE bury all their heavy weaponry and retreat leaving a skeletal force for the govt. forces to overun and capture the entire NE. Besides the NE has been land mined so heavily that the demining teams have not cleared even half the land mass and it is said that it will take another ten years to complete. The question is how the govt. forces managed to capture the entire NE under 30 months to have known the pathways that were free of land mines to enter the NE. This path ways were known only to the LTTE and those who supplied the LTTE with land mines. How the govt forces got the route map is seen from the manner how with all the accusations of war crimes against the govt. forces, still our ex-forces personnel are posted as Diplomats in so many countries, positions in the UN and given Green Cards for US residence. Wait for the UN sessions to be over the niche between the US, India, MR and VP will be exposed taking the whole world for a ride. The debacle that MR did in the end by killing a section of the unarmed LTTE which is now being dangled in front of MR by the US and India who were party to the earlier plot also will be exposed.

  17. To Mr. Brian Senevirathna,

I am a Kandyan Sinhalese ,My original surname was Pattiyagedara and we are the official suppliers of dairy products to the Royal Palace of Kandy Until 1582 when Queen Anula accused our great great grandfather for attempt of poisoning. (We had nearly 5000 acres given by Kandyan Kings from 1200 for Official responsibilities by this time )My great grandfather and his younger brothers with family fled in that night, pass the border of Kandyan Kingdom and settle in down country, Took Portuguese surname Peiris and other great great grandfather took Peiris Deraniyagala surname.During 1614 our lands were given back by another King of Kandy,Rajasinha and our ancestors did the job until 1815.Ok thats my history, today my ancestral lands are occupied by plantation Tamils who brought by South India in 1848 as labourers of Plantations. My question is there were nearly 150 relations of our family and nearly 400 Kandyan Sinhalese who worked under our great great grandfather they were chased, looted, rape by these foreign people who settled our lands under the support of British Army then ceylon. Can I file a crime and ask Independance inquiry a justice to that 400 kandyan innocent sinhalese who was killed, raped, looted from the hands of South Indian Tamil settlers in Kandy my lands? There are many war crimes by British and South Indian Tamil labourers did for Kandy, Kegalle, Rathnapura Sinhala Land owners and they are with their family members today, Can you advice me how could we have a justify to the torture done by Tamils to the innocent Sinhalese in Kandy. Over 15,000 cases could be produce. Can you advice me pls.

  18. Ravana, your naration that after the poisoning episode in 1582 your family had to take refuge in the South under Peiris name.In 1614 when your family got your lands back was your family name Peiris or Peiris Deraniyagala? Then your family is in possession of the lands till 1815 and you state that you lost it under the British. Was it taken back under the Waste Land Ordinance? Was the matter reported to the Kandyan Peasntry Commission for redress? Please give the details as I know the family history of Peiris Deraniyagala. I am awaiting for your response.

  19. Max, I do not have to state who the forgers are. Ravana, may I ask you a few more questions. You claim that your family owned this property from the year 1200, for supplying the dairy products to the Royalty. Strangely the seat of rule around this period is nowhere near Kandy. Further where is this land of 5000 acres situate at Kandy? as at that time under the kings the land extents were not measured in acres. You also claim that your family supplied dairy products to the Kings. That is Cheese, butter and yoghurt is it? Was the cheese cheddar or proceased? You state your surname was Pattiyegedera. What was your wasagama? When did your family acquire Deraniyagala? Trust I am not troubling you too much.

  20. Max for your information, the forgers of deeds for property are your Rajapakse family who are busy claiming ownership and also selling state land to outsiders and collecting money. As for my family we have lost tens of thousand acres under the Waste Land Ordinance with no compensation either. Further land is furthest from my interest as we have sufficient and do not believe in apportioning same. It is the Portuguese Sinhalese who have this land complex.

  21. Interesting to read the “expression of thanks” in this long piece. The Nobel Prize-winning AI, the “Nobel Prize-deserving” (American) Human Rights Watch, (Belgian) International Crisis Group and (British) Channel 4 News; the expatriate Tamils (who funded the LTTE); the American lawyer Karen Parker (who advised the LTTE and was on the ‘advisory committee’ of the so-called Transitional Government of Tamil Eelam that declared the LTTE legal adviser Rudrakumaran as their “prime minister” and the notorious Catholic Bishop Rayappu Joseph of Mannar (also a supporter of the LTTE).

Given that Alfred Nobel was a Scandinavian gunpowder magnate, and that Nobel Peace prizes have been awarded to the likes of Ronald Reagan, the South African apartheid leader F.W. de Klerk and (recently) Barack Obama, AI is in dubious company. As for Human Rights Watch and the International Crisis Group, it is worth considering the crimes of the Americans in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Central America, Africa, the Pacific Islands (that were bombed with nuclear weapons after the Second World War) and elsewhere, and the Belgian crimes against humanity in the Congo region of Africa.

Also, the last time I checked. Mannar was in north-west Sri Lanka, and not the north-east. As far as Channel 4 and its “news” the less said the better.

    • Dear Mr Last Dinosaur (or is it Miss?)

Your previous comments indicate that you are ignorant about the crimes of Hitler and the Nazis, since you imply that there has been a genocide committed by President Mahinda Rakapakse, whom you compare to Hitler. I am not a particular admirer of Rakapakse, but the comparison is ridiculous.

I have made a particular study of the medical murder of the Nazis and the genocidal implementation of eugenics philosophy that was carried out in Nazi-occupied Europe (and Africa). My research over the past 15 years suggests that after the Second World War, a number of nations, including the USA, Britain, Australia and certain nations in Europe (especially Scandinavia) continued covert eugenics programs (most had open eugenics policies before the war) – in Australia this was directed to our indigenous people and regional populations, in the USA it was directed at racially-targeted minority groups and overseas (notably Africa and South-East Asia). Genocidal programs, centred on the covert use of biological, chemical and psychological warfare (including violence-promoting propaganda) in the guise of ‘medical treatments’ have been operating since the beginning of the Cold War till the present time. If you are interested in reading about it, you can find my book Eugenics and Genocide in the Modern World with the following link:

      http://www.scribd.com/doc/71007453/Eugenics-and-Genocide-in-the-Modern-World-by-Romesh-Senewiratne-2010-edition

The global militarisation that accompanied the Cold War also affected Sri Lanka, where it shaped the JVP insurrection as well as the separatist war by the Tamil Tigers and their overseas backers. The Government of Sri Lanka and to a lesser degree Sri Lankan society became increasingly militarised and armed, as did Australia (though not as much as the USA, of course). If you check into it, my dear Last Dinosaur (I happen to like dinosaurs a lot), you will find that the Government of the USA, Canada and Australia spared many Nazi and Japanese war criminals the Nuremberg Trials if they were prepared to share their scientific knowledge with the USA and the ‘Allies’. It was called Operation Paperclip if you are interested in finding out about real genocide.

As for your accusation that I have barbaric attitudes, please visit my You Tube presentation of my 2002 Peace Plan for Sri Lanka…

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAkLVReimbw

It will at least prove that if I am a Barbarian I am an Australian-trained one, since I obtained my medical doctorate in Queensland, Australia. And yes, there certainly were a few barbarians studying with me, and I probably had a few barbaric tendencies back then. Mainly, I swore like a trooper, and drank lots of beer with the other Australian medical students. So if there are barbaric doctors in Sri Lanka, as you claim, there are barbaric doctors all over the world…contrary to popular belief, medicine is a rather barbaric field of study.

  24. Since then I have spoken to many people (both Tamil and Sinhalese) in Sri Lanka as well as people domiciled in Australia. I found out that The LTTE apologists and spin off organizations like to showcase Dr. Brian Seneviratne as a frontman for their cause and he is used as a sort of a trophy to perpetuate their ideas and agendas.
That the UN is a corrupt body is made evident by it’s activities in Sri Lanka through another article by Uvindu elsewhere in this site. So, despite my request from Dr. Brian to write another article about all that he left out, I don’t believe he will do so.
