Hazardous Chemicals, Burial Of Muslim Covid Victims, Water Contamination & Divine Decree

Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) hit the world quite unexpected during the latter part of 2019 and soon consumed the world. The world community still reeling. It’s a new disease; the world still collecting data as to how it spreads. It is believed to spread person-to-person between people who are in close contact (being within about 6 feet) with one another. Some people without symptoms may be able to spread the virus too.

The virus likely spreads primarily through saliva or mucus droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. This is somewhat like how the flu (influenza) and other infections such as the common cold spread. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be breathed in. Droplets can remain on surfaces such as countertops and doorknobs for hours to days.

COVID-19 reached Sri Lanka on 27 January 2020. The first reported case involving a Sri Lankan person outside the country was reported in Italy on 3 March 2020. The government of Sri Lanka mobilized all resources at its disposal in an attempt to stop the spread of the pandemic. Quarantine measures were implemented and authorities tracked down people who had come into contact with identified patients and ordered them to self-quarantine. Regardless Sri Lanka had reported to date 213,396 Corona virus cases and 1,844 deaths. Pretty high for a small country like Sri Lanka.

Amidst this gloomy backdrop came further gloom. Breaking news had this “Contaminants released from the wreckage of a container ship off the coast of Sri Lanka could be dragged thousands of kilometers by ocean currents, impacting wildlife and humans in far-reaching latitudes.” An unprecedented marine disaster with really bad consequences was just developing. If Covid was not enough and now this. 300 metric tons of oil transported by the MV X-Press Pearl from spilling out of the ship’s fire-damaged hull. Chemicals, tiny plastic pellets that were once onboard the 186-meter vessel already entering the ocean.

“Oil, chemicals and plastic pellets are probably the worst combination you can have,” said Delphine Lobelle, a postdoctoral researcher specializing in ocean plastics at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. “It’s really unfortunate that the ship was carrying so many harmful materials.” Pellets the size of a grain of rice can easily be mistaken for food by birds or fish, Lobelle said, but consuming them can be deadly. If the animals don’t die and are instead eaten by predators, the plastics can move up the food chain until they eventually reach humans. With time, the pellets break into even smaller pieces, known as micro plastics, which are even more difficult to detect and control.

To date no information of ground water contamination as a result of burial of Covid-19 victims had come to light as falsely alleged by the government but large stretches of Sri Lanka’s beautiful coastline is subject to relentless environmental degradation and the world watches with consternation the cascading contamination.

There was more bad news coming Sri Lanka’s way. Heavy rains lashed Sri Lanka triggering floods and landslides that killed at least 17 people and forced tens of thousands from their homes. Rivers on the island nation’s southern and western plains had overflowed inundating low-lying areas and forcing thousands into relief centers. Its estimated more than 270,000 people have been affected and about 100,000 buildings had lost power.

It did not end there. Now the threat of dengue looms high. Sri Lanka has reported 7,896 dengue cases so far this year with health authorities warning that the number could spike with the onset of the monsoon rains

Earlier on Muslims an integral part of the Sri Lankan community representing just over 10% of the population were prevented burial of their loved ones (victims of Covid-19) adducing absurd, baseless reasons, chief among them being ground water contamination, it stirred absolute horror in the minds of Muslims. It was unprecedented and wholly irreconcilable. No amount of rational discourse with authorities availed any substantial outcome.

Relevant world authorities clearly voiced the misdirection taken by the Sri Lankan government but to no avail. Sri Lanka made compulsory the cremation of all people who die from COVID-19, saying the virus in human remains could contaminate underground water. Muslims and non-Muslims alike protested against it, calling it unscientific and insensitive of Muslim religious beliefs. The United Nations also raised concerns with the government. The World Health Organization and Sri Lankan doctors’ groups have said COVID-19 victims can either be buried or cremated.

Kamil Mohamed (not his real name) spoke to this writer from the outskirts of Colombo. And he said “My uncle has died from Covid and his inevitable cremation has turned his house to a pandemonium ridden enclave. It’s not because of his death but because his body is going to be cremated. His three daughters and wife are inconsolable” he added.

In Islam, funeral rites are prescribed by divine law. Burying the dead is the method prescribed. Islamic belief holds that only Allah The Lord of the Worlds knows what is good or bad for us and that the body should be treated with the utmost respect in life and in death. Burning the dead is considered a form of mutilation, forbidden by Allah.

There is also a set series of events that burial rites are to follow, including bathing, shrouding, offering prayers and finally burial, with the head buried facing Mecca. These practices alone do not lend themselves to cremation.

And with all decent negotiations failing Muslims of Sri Lanka collectively raised their hands towards the heavens and lodged their complaint with their Lord Most High.

Human bodies do not contaminate water but hazardous chemical does.

Is the COVID-19 Coronavirus in Our Water in flooded area?
Period of Home Isolation or Quarantine for COVID-19 Patients is 14 days
When house of lock down people are flooded they are out of the house and everywhere Floods some places of COVID-19 pandemic is —A new double hazard problem A flood results when a stream runs out of its confines and submerges surrounding areas. How is the virus be controlled the water contaminated with virus COVID-19 cause severe acute respiratory syndrome spread to people through the water in lakes, what is the procedure to health safety authorities as the concerned authority has mentioned one time that burial can cause spreading virus proving after all the covid contaminated dead body has the chance of passing through many layers of sand and then spring out. And transmit virus. After all the world WHO approval of burial.
Covid 19 covering face is required
The Hazardous Chemicals Air pollution when rains can also cause long-term damage to people’s nerves, brain, Covering the head is required
USE the head cover like Muslim woman wear or introduce a soft helmet covering the face and head.

**Democracy turned out to be DEMOCRAZY in today s srilanka.

At the time, Good governance govt came into being, all the white van abductions and police crimes became zero.
There had been tangible improvement in democratic governance until SORYSENA fell back to the lap of Mahinda Rajapakshe the most abusive man of the nation, in that 52 day FAKE govt.
Mahinda Rajaakshe became that cheap to be the FAKE primier to that govt.
And then only, MaRa and SiRa join cooperation caused a nation s disaster due to lack of national safety, since SORYSENA was brutally raped by Rajaakshe criminals. Morally and physically, SORYSENA was totally abused by the gang, on and on, so that he could not say no to anything. The nature is comparable to a street woman, who wouuld not say no to anything once she is raped by a gang

So what more talks about the DEMOCRAZY mercy cows dominated srilanka paved the way high criminals to be their leaders. Consequences are before your eyes today.

Forced Cremation of hundreds of Muslim victims of Covid – 19, including a new born baby of 20 days, was certainly a totally Unjustifiable and Indefensible action by the Govt. for reasons known Only to those who made the decision. For one year, from March 2020 to March 2021, the Torture the Muslim community in the country as a whole Suffered is Unparalleled and hard to describe, a Unique achievement by this Govt. in the History of Muslims in Sri Lanka.
Since Burial of Corona Victims was permitted in March 2021, 555 bodies have been buried up to yesterday, 11th June, in the one and only Place allowed for Burial so far, in Ottamawadi in the East. This number, apart from 525 Muslims also includes 13 Christians, 11 Hindus, 4 Buddhists and 2 Foreign nationals.
The inconvenience and pain caused to the near and dear ones of those buried in the East from other parts of the country in the South, West, North West etc. can be better imagined than described. So many other places have been suggested to the Authorities even before the Burial was allowed, but the Govt. is in no Mood to accommodate the Valid concerns of the Muslims. Why is it so Difficult to allow Burial in All Areas where Muslims live?

In the article the author states that ‘the burning the dead is considered a form of mutilation, forbidden by Allah’, but isn’t this contradictory to the genital mutilation of the living espoused and practiced by Muslims or shouldn’t that also be forbidden?. It would be appreciative of the author if he could clarify this for the benefit of the readers.

The minimum distance to the watertable recommended by the government appointed medical expert committee in December 2020 is 1.2m, with the depth of the grave from groundlevel which they have set to 1.5m, gives 2.7 meters as the minimum required distance to the watertable from groundlevel. In Srilanka there’s hardly a place where the watertable lies below 2.7m, during the heavy rains, except small areas in the north, which are not flood prone. During the past year there has been many floods. Just the past couple of weeks many areas have had floods, and when that happens the distance to the watertable is zero. This is the reason why Srilanka didn’t allow burials of persons who die of this highly contagious deadly virus.

Besides water contamination is only a small part of the dangers associated in burying the Covid-19 dead – what happens to SARS-Cov-2 virus in the soil is what should concern us most – among other dangers, its potential to mutate and infect animals and humans who come in direct contact with the soil is still not known. Similar viruses are capable of surviving in soil for months and moving several hundreds of meters.

Some questions asked at Researchgate discussed by scholars and students:
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE IMPACTS OF DEATHS FROM A NEW CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) ON GROUNDWATER AND PUBLIC HEALTH?
      https://www.researchgate.net/post/What-are-the-possible-impacts-of-deaths-from-a-new-coronavirus-COVID-19-on-groundwater-and-public-health

Question by a Muslim lady scientist/scholar from Sri Lanka in December 2020:
HAS ANY ONE CARRIED OUT ANY RESEARCH REGARDING GROUND WATER POLLUTION DUE TO THE BURIAL OF DECEASED BODIES, WHICH WERE SUCCUMBED TO COVID-19?
      https://www.researchgate.net/post/Has_any_one_carried_out_any_research_regarding_ground_water_pollution_due_to_the_burial_of_deceased_bodies_which_were_succumbed_to_COVID-19

She obviously didn’t get the answer she wanted even from Muslim scientists. There’s no scientific evidence showing that burying Covid-19 dead is safe, while there are scientific studies which shows that there could be a danger associated with burying virus infected bodies. So burials of Muslim Covid-19 dead are done with a huge risk to public health, animals and wildlife, for the simple reason that some people are so selfish that they think following what a prophet or god supposedly had told is more important than the safety and life of other living beings.

UN Asks Sri Lanka To ‘revise’ COVID-19 Victims’ Burial Policy, Cites WHO Guidelines

“The common assumption that people who died of a communicable disease should be cremated to prevent spread is not supported,” UN’s coordinator said in a letter

“On November 12, the UN expressed concern over the Sri Lankan government’s COVID-19 victim burial policy.

In a letter, UN Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka Hanaa Singer told Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa that prohibition of burials of COVID-19 victims was backed by no scientific evidence, and as per WHO’s updated interim guidance on 4 September 2020, cremation should be “a matter of cultural choice”. “The common assumption that people who died of a communicable disease should be cremated to prevent spread is not supported,” read the content of an official letter, cited by Sri Lanka’s local daily Sri Lanka Mirror.

The UN has based its burial recommendations of Covid-19 dead on political issues, rather than scientific evidence. The UN and its child organisation WHO are responsible for their inaction and false information about SARS-Cov-2, which was the sole cause of a local infection spreading and becoming a pandemic, when it could have been stopped in and around Wuhan or at least just within China.

“Koheda yanne malle pol” statements like Hanaa Singer’s statement, do not belong in a serious scientific decision on a very serious issue like burying SARS-Cov-2 infested bodies. Many millions of animals have been killed and burnt to stop the spread of Covid-19 and other infectious diseases (bird-flu, swine-flu..) just the past halfyear. WHY?! Why burn animal carcasses in the millions if burying is as safe? If this woman Hanna Singer cannot show us solid evidence that SARS-Cov-2 immediately dies with the patient, then she should not even open her mouth – because these statements are just idiotic political opinions. FYI the only safe way to dispose of Covid-19 dead is to cremate them. Then too, it is not 100% safe, as it depends on how the procedure is carried out.

          2

Upto today there is no evidence that corpses of Covid-19 dead, are free of the active virus, so recommending burial for these corpses is not a scientific decision, but a politically motivated decision, as Singer inadvertently admits – ref. “cultural choice”.

This study is from March 2021, and is also found in the WHO database of Covid-19 information, but WHO just continues to ignore the dangers of burying.
ANALYSIS OF THE PERSISTENCE TIME OF THE SARS-COV-2 VIRUS IN THE CADAVER AND THE RISK OF PASSING INFECTION TO AUTOPSY STAFF

The activity of the SARS-CoV-2 virus has not yet been studied in a post-mortem setting. The absence of these data has led to the prohibition of exposure of infected corpses during burial procedures. Our aim was to assess the virus’s persistence and the possibility of transmission in the post-mortem phase including autopsy staff. …. The choice to avoid rituals and the display of corpses before and at the burial procedures given appears cautiously valid due to the persistence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the post-mortem period.

          2

In Dec2020/Jan2021 the government appointed medical committee in Srilanka, basing itself on the recommendations by WHO, recommended 2.7 m as the minimum distance to the water table from the ground-level.
How they came about this 2.7m is not known, besides, the distance to the water table at any given place changes, especially in a flood prone country like ours.

Watch this small clip for 10-20 seconds from the time-stamp and tell me where the water table is?
          https://youtu.be/gfZBznf3LGA?t=12
This is the situation in large parts of the country right now.

Please also watch this educational video (2 minutes from the time-stamp), and see how the water table varies even in the same property:
          WHERE IS THE WATER TABLE
          https://youtu.be/UfgyJkmZgK8?t=132

How the UN can give global recommendations for something that varies so much like the distance to the water table, soil quality/type, pH, rainfall, drought, altitude, temperature etc. etc. even within a given country is unbelievable. As said, the UN and WHO are responsible for virtually making this pandemic. If they acted timely and responsibly, without meddling with politics, then the world could have been saved from Covid-19.

If the corona virus from dead bodies, never mind how long they can survive in a dead body, can affect the Water Table, how about the live virus in covid-19 patients under treatment in hospitals?

Wouldn’t the live virus in patients under treatment MOST DEFINITELY pollute the water through Sceptic and Sanitary waste of patients? Isn’t there an UNQUESTIONABLE Threat of Covid 19 spreading through patients under treatment in
              Hospitals.

So far, just under 230,000 patients have been identified and treated in hospitals of whom a little over 190,000 have been cured and discharged while deaths are under 2,250 of whom 630 have been buried.

Now, do those who argue that the Covid 19 virus pollute the water have any proof that the treatment of 230, 000 identified patients treated and under treatment in hospitals caused any water pollution any where? Or, is there any evidence of water pollution nearby Ottomavadi Burial grounds where burial of corona victims began almost 4 months back?

Sri Lanka is perhaps the ONLY country in the world which disallowed Burial of corona victims for almost a year. Total worldwide deaths from Covid19 is about 3.81 million. Even if half of this number was buried, there must have been some Water Pollution somewhere. Is there any evidence of Water Pollution anywhere in the world through Burial?

Muhandiram, If you read the researchgate discussions, which I have referred to earlier, you could have found the answer to some of your questions, like: “Is there any evidence of Water Pollution anywhere in the world through Burial?”
I guess you are thinking of burial of Covid-19 victims, because water pollution by decomposing corpses from burials is an established scientific fact, and pointless discussing it again.

Let me copy and paste one answer from one of the researchgate discussions, from a Muslim scientist in the University of Sidi-Bel-Abbes in Algeria:
                15th December 2020
                Salam,
You broach too early, really too early, a subject on groundwater pollution, due to the possible existence of Covid -19 corpses.
Firstly, because groundwater is not easily polluted unless you know that the water table is close to the surface of the ground and again.
In addition, this damn Covid only appeared several months ago.
So, you have not enough perspective to undertake this type of research.

You have your answer there. Its not from me, but a scientist who happens to be a Muslim.

                  How convincing!

                1

The problem is that, to find-out whether Covid-19 corpses can contaminate water and whether that particular water has infected people, there’s a huge amount of tracing, distinguishing and eliminating that needs to be done. It takes much longer time than the 17 months since the first known SARS-Cov-2 infection of humans. For a buried Covid-19 corpse to contaminate water with active SARS-Cov-2 particles the corpse must have had the infective virus particles and then some of these particles must get transmitted into water and then the water has had to be ingested by people who then get infected. If infective SARS-Cov-2 from corpses or any other source gets into water bodies, then ingestion is not needed for the water to infect people – because breathing in aerosols with enough viruses* is all that is needed. This is infact how SARS-Cov-1 spread in HongKong.
*Equivalent or more than the infective dose, which is very low (~300 particles; Ref. Nature, Article number: 6652 (2021)); infective dose is even lower for the British variant now in Srilanka), contrary to what the government appointed medical panel erroneously say in their report (page9) “….the minimal infectious dose of the virus is quite high.”!

      Don’t spread dangerous rumours.
Already in the very beginning of this pandemic, i.e March/April 2020, studies showed that SARS-Cov-2 can infect the GI tract. Gastric acid cannot always neutralise SARS-Cov-2 or other viruses. So, SARS-Cov-2 can infect the GI tract. The mechanisms or how it manages to do this is not established, but it is assumed that SARS-Cov-2 and SARS-Cov-1 have similar pH sensitivity as they are closely related and SARS-Cov-1 is inactivated at very low and very high pH ( lower than 3.0 and higher than 12.0 ). pH of gastric acid is generally about 1.5 – 3.5, but gastric acid in many, especially adults have higher pH which lies above the lowest pH tolerated by SARS-Cov-2. So the SARS-Cov-2 does not get inactivated.

      Dear RBH59 & Punchi Point,
      .
The comments made by the two of you sound rational – both of them.
      .
Yet only one of them can be correct. Ratiocination will not yield the answer.
      .
With empirical issues of this sort, we need to consult the specialists.
      .
The real specialists are usually pretty boring guys who have been studying just one subject all their lives, have little sense of humour and few social graces.
      .
In Lanka, unfortunately, the ignorant villagers like me who elect the demagogues who get those who “spread dangerous rumours” disappeared in white vans, have far too much respect for those who “have been to campus” and emerged with an MBBS. These are pseudo-specialists, who know everything under the sun.
      .
So “politician-doctors” like Padeniya & Jayasumana, and “Honorary Doctors” like Pavithra, Shavendra Silva, Sarath Weerasekera, and Gota, over-rule what the real (boring) Specialists like Professors Malik Peiris, Kamini Mendis, Shehan Williams, Muta Janapriya, et al, have carefully, and nerd-like, been telling us.

The article itself is crap; so read neither that nor my own comments. Read carefully all that Champa says. We can’t disprove any of it – because, as Karl Popper would have observed, none of it is falsifiable.

However, it is highly entertaining stuff; forty-five comments, and counting, within two days.

What do you call virologists and medical doctors who take crucial life threatening decisions regarding matters of geology? Pseudo-geologists?

When it comes to this Malik Pieris: he is basically clueless about soil, or soil ecology, rivers, waters, ground water etc. and the nature and maps and presence or absence of different soil factors, levels of groundwater in Srilanka, which is what is needed to make decisions about allowing burials in Srilanka. Just because one is a virologist or medical doctor, that doesn’t qualify anyone to take decisions about burying corpses died of a deadly virus infection. Also, the report by the medical panel in December is just parroting Malik Peiris’ views about this virus, and besides his favourite line “dead viruses don’t replicate” which even a grade school child will tell you, and which has no bearing on the matter of burials, every single issue that went into making the decision about allowing burials in that report is erroneous or highly dubious and remains unproven and unsubstantiated by scientific studies.

BTW, I do not know who Karl Popper is, so I cannot understand or relate to what you are saying there.

Oh, so you as a totally unqualified snake oil specialist are more qualified to pronounce on burial than a real scientist, simply because you are a Sinhalayo Buddhist? Wow, what a swollen ego!

Whether Covid 19 can spread because of burials or not, laws are laws and needs to be obeyed by everybody. A select few cannot exempt themselves from the rule of law.

There’s a great place to practice burials and all other primitive practices. It is called Saudi Arabia.

This anti-burial law needs to be made permanent.

      .
      welcome back to CT.
      :
If that is the case, all laws should be applied to all equally. If Bitch s sons from Medamulana would have been muslims, would they ever allow forced cremations ?

Law and order is hugely violated under Gota than under any leaders sofar. Sorysena did his job much better than Gota did it.
      :
Is LAW AND ORDER held equal under Gota-Mara Hegemony ?

Srilanka under DOUBLE PAKSHE rule did achieve nothing for the benefit of the masses yet but threw the people from frying pan to the fire.
      .
Gota has hitherto proved – his capabilities are not its all cracked up to be. He cant even give a leadership FREE JABs be distributed to a fair manner. Yo u can fool the someone, but you can t fool the same people again and again… exception SRILANKEN people… ha ha..

So what more talks we should continue about his LEADERSHIP ?

Where you are given REFUGE TORONTO canada, not cremations but burials are seen as their usual last respects to all incl. COVID death. That is the same in Europe and also in the Netherlands. Netherlands is a country which is naturally located under the sea level. Please get your facts right before going to LEAVE stupid thoughts misleading the readers. Thank you.

Mohandiram, I asked you a simple question, namely where the water table is in the flood video. In the other video, scientists are showing how the depth to the water table varies within 50m. But instead of answering, you are presenting a lame argument again, about biological waste from hospitals with Covid-19 patients. FYI just as much as breathing in and out is unavoidable for living human beings, producing biological waste is also unavoidable, while wilfully depositing of corpses infected with trillions of virus particles and making reservoirs of a deadly virus under the soil is perfectly avoidable and should not be done, considering the many risks this deadly virus poses to humans and animals. Burying cannot be a cultural choice for a few people to make freely, and decide the fate of a whole population in a country.

I hope you recognise the contradiction in arguments made by other proponents of burials, where they claim that SARS-Cov-2 cannot infect humans through water/food, while you acknowledge the fact that SARS-Cov-2 is present in human faeces, ref.: “Wouldn’t the live virus ….. pollute the water through Sceptic and Sanitary waste of patients? ?”

So, the answer to your question is, yes they definitely do have the potential to pollute and infect. But release of virus into wastewater is unavoidable and there are many ways biological waste is handled and disinfected globally. Sometimes out of negligence and lack of funds to operate proper disinfecting processes, drinking water can get contaminated or contaminated water can be distributed as drinking water. But this unavoidable contamination or contamination through negligence cannot be compared to wilful introduction of trillions of deadly virus into the soil by burying Covid-19 dead, due to a special cultural need Muslims have.

So, your comparison is totally wrong. Muslims’ demands for forceful and dangerous burials in this island can be compared to people who knowingly go into public areas, when they are infected with SARS-Cov-2 or have been exposed to danger of infection, without even wearing a mask and they justify their deplorable acts of endangering others by claiming that other people too go without masks and that there’s plenty of SARS-Cov-2 in the air already. All the while, the correct and responsible thing to do for infected/potentially infected persons is to be in self-quarantine and/or seek medical help.

        PP,
You are well known for bullshitting disguised as learned argument.
Bangladesh, a Muslim country, has a higher water-table than Sri Lanka. It buries Covid dead, but has only 7 deaths per million compared to 34 for Sri Lanka.
I am sure you will have a good Sinhala Buddhist explanation.
