By Sharmini Serasinghe –
An Open letter to Minister Mangala Samaraweera by Sharmini Serasinghe on behalf of the Voiceless & Faceless Citizens of Sri Lanka
Dear Minister Mangala Samaraweera,
Hope you don’t mind me not referring to you as Hon. Mangala Samaraweera because those of us who know you are honourable don’t need a reminder. Also, many of your colleagues – MPs – also referred to as Hon. bla bla bla are extremely dishonourable dolts, hence it is more of an insult to you than an honour.
The reason I decided to appeal to you on behalf of the Voiceless & Faceless Citizens of Sri Lanka is because unlike our Prime Minster who appears to have his head permanently in the clouds, and that shameless man who continues to masquerade as our ‘Chief Servant’, you my friend have your head screwed on right and above all, you have a conscience. Hence my utmost faith in you to do what is right by the people of our country.
So, here goes!
Next week, Sri Lanka will be “celebrating” 71 years since the British fled our shores for their dear lives. And, for 71 years since then we the people of this country have been led down the garden path by our noses, by successive governments of the two dominant political parties who used us, fooled us, abused us and now, driven our country down into the debt-ridden dark hole it is in today. You, as the Minister of Finance know exactly how deep and dark that hole is.
As a sensible and wise man I’m sure you would agree, Mangala, February 4th should actually be a day of mourning for us Sri Lankans. 71 years since the British fled our shores which we call “independence” and where are we today? We the people of Sri Lanka have achieved nothing, really. We have lost far more than we ever gained, really!
The only ones who benefited are the politicians who we, our parents and grandparents voted for over the past 71 years, who in turn made an utter mess of our lives by polarising all of us based on language, ethnicity, religion etc. which ultimately led to a war amongst our own people. Well, that’s hopefully history now. Further, we have had and still have those we voted into power to serve us – our servants – who in turn served and keep serving themselves, their families and sycophants at OUR expense, used and abused the Buddha Sasana in this county – the cradle of Theravada Buddhism – made racist idiots of many gullible Sinhalese – an obvious joke in the eyes of the Other – destroyed our ancient and sacred values, polluted the Buddhist clergy, created divisiveness, communal and religious disharmony, brainwashed our youth with a racist Sinhala-Buddhist ideology – the future generations of our country – by introducing and encouraging a culture of vile and disgraceful behaviour.
Is this what we will be “celebrating” on 4th February?
On this day – 4th February – we will witness yet another annually repeated spectacle – ‘Independence Day celebrations’ – for which WE the people of Sri Lanka must eventually foot the bill. Do we want OUR money spent on this senseless performance to boost the egos of our ‘Servants’, WE voted into power? NO, we DO NOT!
The star performer of this show will be our ‘Chief Servant’ – the traitor, Maithripala Sirisena – who ought to have been shoved into the dustbin of history and the lid tightly shut after he repeatedly violated our Constitution with obvious impunity. The 6.25 million of us who voted for this onetime political nonentity and who betrayed us on the 26th of October, 2018, do we want OUR money spent to boost the ego of this treacherous servant of ours? NO, we DO NOT!
As the Minister of Finance you are well aware that Sirsena’s act of treason which unconstitutionally brought the Rajapaksa oligarchy back into power through the backdoor cost our debt ridden country – us, its citizens – billions of Rupees, directly and indirectly, during the 51 days of illegal Rajapaksa misrule. Also, as the Minister of Finance you know only too well that the financial losses of Sirisena’s treachery will ultimately have to be borne by US – the people of Sri Lanka. Hence our cost of living will undoubtedly rise in leaps and bounds in the near future under all kinds of guises.
Very soon, we will be asked to tighten our belts further, which incidentally is so tight now it’s about to disjoint us at the waist. So, how about setting the example at the top – Sevaka Sirisena downwards – and start tightening all your belts for a change?
A great place to start would be to cancel all plans to “celebrate” the nonsensical 71st anniversary of independence. After all, it is OUR money that will be squandered on this senseless event, rehearsals et al, isn’t it? I don’t recall any of our servants in government requesting our permission to spend OUR money on this spectacle.
WE the people of Sri Lanka, much rather have that money of OURS spent on something far more worthwhile viz. build and equip schools for the children of our less fortunate.
Now getting back to “celebrating” February 4th, again I ask for the final time on behalf of the ‘Voiceless & Faceless Citizens of Sri Lanka’, what in heaven’s name are we celebrating?

Charming
Thanks a million on behalf of the voiceless. and faceless and all those women demanding their land back 10yrs after the war was over and many others demanding to know what happened to their relatives taken by the Army at the end of the war promising to return them after investigation ………..

Dilma / January 27, 2019
Good stuff Sharmini. Keep it coming! For the first time since 1948 a foreign military is operating out of Sri Lanka’s main civilian airport and Trincomalee harbour, compromising national security and civilian safety under the guise that these are commercial flights!! This is for a paltry 25 million rupees too.
This is an insult to the intelligence of even a third grader! But it seems that the Secretary of defense has been paid off by Washington’s puppet, Bondscam Ranil to say that this is a commercial operation.
Trumpland has started many wars in many parts of the world and the bombs fall on the brown natives. Letting US military, air force and Navy use civilian airports in Sri Lanka is to endanger lives and a gross violation of the safety of Sri Lankans, of course with the connivance of Washington’s puppet Bondscam Ranil and butterfly mafia who must all be impeached for unprecedented compromising of Sri Lankan populations and national security.
The US game is first put countries into a debt trap, proliferate corruption (the name of reconciliation) then crash the currency and asset strip. Meanwhile US proxy Japan is digging into Pulmmodai mineral sands for a song!
Seventy years after independence Lanka is being asset stripped by the neoliberal Washington fake development debt trap agenda.
/
Kalupahana / January 28, 2019
Dead on Dilma, there needs to be a Presidential Investigation into these temporary logistics hubs in Bandaranaiyake International Airport and Trincomalee port and their legal frameworks, and the private airline operators in Sri Lanka. The latter “Commercial” air line operators are front companies for external – US and allies Security interests – also to gather big data on Lanka and Indian Ocean marine security today.
US drones are doing environmental surveillance and others seeding clouds in this miracle of corrupt modayas where marine, ocean, mineral resources are being sold off for a song to the Trumpland handlers who keep Bondscam Ranil in power.
Of course with US Citizen Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the other side of the bi-partisan UNP-SLFP corruption racket, the US game in Lanka is “Head I win, tails you lose”. Either way Washinton’s interests are secured and Lankans are screwed, while everyone in distracted with Fake news against China, weaponised ethnic and religious identity politics and the so-called new constitution drafted in Washington DC to keep the ethnic pot boiling in Lanka.
Divide, Distract, grow the US military footprint, and asset strip is the IMF-WB and CIA backed MCC game in Lanka today – all to benefit America first and the Global 1 percent.

Dear Dilma/ Kalinga etc
“For the first time since 1948 a foreign military is operating out of Sri Lanka’s main civilian airport and Trincomalee harbour, “
Just a fact check. Which universe do you come from??
All these places were foreign bases till 1956, and other foreigners have used them in 1971 and 1987. So what’s new?

If I am very honest to me, I am afraid, I dont think we should deny to accept the truth. We should be blind and deaf, if we would repeat that we have achieved nothing over the 7 decades.
.
True our politicians since then had been not easy to change the thinking patterns fo the average mindset. Here we are no alone, where it had been colonised, as a consequences, peoples in those countries, always behave far from realities. Like for example, over 40% or more of our people yet today are caught by so called western invasions or the like theories. This has been advantageous to some politicians like Wimal Buruwanse, while that way of thinking is connected with dire consequences.
:
30 years long civil war almost ruined this nation than the country.
:
And not to underestimate that we the srilankenshave achieved a lot in Education and at least few other fields- lanken standards are not comparable of those in other like minded countries that have failed to do so. Almost every corner of the country, we have schools and the literacy rates are the highest. Today those who come from rural corners are the ones to be the significant protion of the coutnry s professionals. This would have been a dream in Pakistan or the like countries.
–
It is public secret , that our peoples have been caught by astrology, sorcery, yanthra mantra to the same degree or little less to that of indians as they would not be easy to see it beyond.
–
I have not given up my hopes, if we would collectively stand against EXTREMISTS AND RACISTs of RAJAAKSHES nature, we can rebuild this nation within shorter period – basta
/

That’s what we hoped and hoped and hoped. Prez and PM have proved in the last four years that they are not made of stuff good enough for a country that has been slipping down for 66 yrs:
Emeritus Prof John Richardson received Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013 from Systems Dynamics Society for forty years of work based on Systems Theory. In his Award-receiving address he spoke how Sri Lanka policy makers needed prayers more than research findings – https://www.systemdynamics.org/assets/conferences/2013/proceed/papers/P1425.pdf
‘’Paradise Poisoned is the principal product of a seventeen year project, devoted to understanding linkages between deadly conflict, terrorism and development, by viewing them through the lens of Sri Lanka’s post-independence history, from 1948 through 1988.…… In 1993 Arun Gandhi asked me to write one aspect of A World without Violence and I chose Politics without Principle and gave Sri Lanka as the example …….. .My vision is of a day when no citizens in today’s developing nations will have to ask ‘how did we come to this?’ Paradise Poisoned will have achieved its purpose when that day comes.” – Paradise Poisoned: Learning about Conflict, Terrorism and Development from Sri Lanka ‘s Civil Wars, John Richardson (Professor of International development, American University) 2005

SL is a two-tier system ……
–
All the politicians ……. including Mangala have everything to celebrate. “Independence” has given them untold wealth and a work-less existence.
–
And the plebs have nothing to celebrate ………. since independence, increasingly, most of them live in other countries for most part of the year ……. and visit the ol’ motherland briefly for “cultural” reorientation.
–
It has worked well for both ……. now for 71 years!
–
Let us not be churlish ……. and celebrate what “independence” has given a handful of our countrymen and their families for generations. :))
–
All can’t be so lucky! …… Some by choice ………. and others by necessity.
/
Sinhala_Man / January 28, 2019
Thanks, nimal fernando, for sharing your clear vision with us.
.
Yes, the plebs are becoming ever more indigent.
.
Sirisena has let our entire community down; he has allowed the elite to throw it at all of us that “they told us so.”
.
As Chief Guests at the celebrations, the Maldivians will be here. Their new leadership is certainly more promising than anything that we have.
/
Dodo / January 27, 2019
Sharm, many great points here!
70 years of fake independence and Sri Lanka is today a colony of Trumpland which owns and operates its puppet Bondscam Ranil. There needs to be an national discussion on National sovereign debt cancellation and restructuring, and full disclosure by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on which US linked sovereign bond traders own 55 percent of Lanka’s debt and are crashing the rupee and economy. It is the IMF and WB – Washington Consensus poliicies to benefit America First and the Global 1 percent which is at the bottom of the debt trap and bipartisan UNP-SLFP corruption epidemic in Sri Lanka as in many other countries, like Greece, Argentina, Venezuvela. USAID was doing SL parliament corruption strengthening projects these past few years as well as Judicial sector reforms!!. We see the results in the corruption and lack of justice of such fake US AID !
Finally, the fact of the matter is that Ethnic and religious identity politics are being weaponized by US War Peace Corps and Asia Foundation in Sri Lanka today, to Divide, Distract and push US military bases in Sri Lanka because of its Cold War against China in the Indian Ocean.. The book “Cold War Monks: Buddhism and America’s Secret Strategy in South East Asia”, published by Yale University press in 2017 holds the key to explaining what is going on today in Sri Lanka with Buddhist identity politics and violence against minorities. Buddhism is being weaponized by played by Trumpland’s Peace Corps, who use ethnic and religious identity politics to distract the people from US plans to set up bases in Sri Lanka with the help of their puppet Bondscam Ranil who should be impeached for Looting the CBSL, in Trump’s Cold War against China in the Indian Ocean.
Sri Lanka will soon be like Venezuvela, where Trumpland is playing havoc. Or like Syria.
These are dangerous times.

Do Demalu have a problem? Yes, they have. Their problem is Sinhalayo are not willing to accept the constitution prepared by White ‘Awajathakayo’ and edited by Jadampathy and Sukamthiram. The reason why Sinhalayo are not willing to accept this constitution is, it is designed to destroy the Unitary State and change the country to a confederation fulfilling the aspirations of a tiny fraction of Demala people (Vellala) completely ignoring the aspirations of Sinhalayo who are the majority in this country.
/

Do us a favour, dont allow this Egel Eye to abuse the terms ” DEMALU” whenever he adds his comments.

:

Thank you.

/
Eagle Eye / January 28, 2019
Concerned Sinhala Man,
Demala is the term coined by Sinhalayo to refer to Dravidian invaders. They used the same term to refer to slaves brought from Hindusthan by colonial parasites. Demala is an officially accepted term. Demala refer to a hotchpotch of Dravidians. British called them ‘Malabaris’. During British rule a guy who worked in the Census Department introduced the term ‘Sri Lankan Tamils’. As a reward for licking the a** of British, they allowed to do that. Actually, there are no Tamils in Sri Lanka. Tamils live in Tamil Nadu.
Demalu is the plural of Demala
Sinhalayo is the plural of Sinhalaya.
So, what is your problem?
/
Concerned Sinhala Man / January 28, 2019
Eagle Eye, i think yours should be highly pathological, as nothing can ever help you right ?
:
I think going by your classification – to name our HOUSE MAID and DRIVER/Clearner community, being exported today in order to cover our foreign exchages- should be called as SINHALA SLAVEs… right ?
:
This is common to those who clean in Italy and other countries as well – I ve got italian doctors, that treat them as all the last dirts. Can you imagine ? I can ask them to name them as SRILANKEN slaves ? do you agree ?
:
I have guys working with me in Europe (rich arabs coming from oil rich countries), I can suggest this to them. Would you agree ?
:
Man grow up for the sake of US srilankens !
Thank you.

Eagle Eye: The only important aspiration of the Sinhalayo like you is to subjugate the minority and keep them as second class, underprivileged, underdogs, and this can be done by the simple expedient of resisting any change for the betterment of the minorities and stubbornly maintaining the status quo.
According to you guys, “The constitution is perfect as it is and does not require any change” and “All the laws are perfect as they are and do not require any amendments,” e.g. PTA.

————————
Buddy, U got it wrong. It is other way around. Vellala Demalu who licked the a** of British subjugated the majority Sinhalayo and treated them as dirt. Demala politicians and bureaucrats thought they could continue to do that after independence but when they realized that it is not possible went around the world shouting ‘Sinhalayo are discriminating Demalu’. ‘Afrikaans’ in S.Africa were a minority who subjugated the majority black community but at the end they had to face the reality and give up the privileged status they enjoyed. I do not know when Demalu learn to act like ‘Afrikaans’.

Test my DNA. For what?
I am not racially labeling people. Demala is an officially accepted term to refer to Dravidians who came as invaders and later as slaves brought illegally by colonial rulers. Sinhala people use the term Demalu as the plural of Demala. British called these people ‘Malabaris’ until a Demala person who worked in Census Department changed it to ‘Ceylon Tamils’.

Desperate Sinhalaya / January 29, 2019
Eagle Eye,
.
hope youa re not a teenager RIGHT ?. Last week JVP leaders in Parliament articulated it as no others. Not even their representatives have ever exposed that much, explaining the grievances and yet untold stories of the plantation tamils in the country. Sure, we dont consider all the tamil srilankens to be in a dire situations, but can we honestly feel fine, when looking at them yet today, that they have to beg for their salary hikes ?
.
And about your wording – you and I truly know VERY WELL the way you pronounce it ” demallu , hadi dhemalu, demalaa” or similar terms will literally sound lot more racial and being used to discriminate them for decades. Instead you may use it “DRAVIDA”, i think much more decent.
Likewise, I have no doubt, our tamil srilankens too may have their ” own tamil dirty words” whenever they criticise specially you (Eagle eye) or the like in public. And I believe, this is not just unique to our country, but where racism raises its head, people would hear those words lot more. Whenver I visit the country, I observe these reactions fo the people closely. I dont want to defend my race any more, since I know our people (significant portion) have it in their blood. All because, they live like frogs in a well. Lack of information about the other. They discriminate within their own race. Ragging in national UNis has become so uncivilized today as nothing could help them tame.
To me, you or the like are the most hateful, going beyond Germany’s nazists.
.
Please surrender to us if you really seek a healing, else, our society have no hopes any more. This is the reason, why developed world have introduced a set of regulations against the kind of racists that fail to respect minorities.

Thanks.

We would have been better off if we have not had independence from British..
We would have been more prosperous than today we are..
Look how it was some British colonies even today ..
How did we get it .

The only prosperous British colonies are Canada and Australia in OECD model .even here the natives are still to be identified and homeless prevail all swept under the carpet ,where migration helps but attitudes of ‘you owe us ” prevail to make them feel eternally beholden .we make our choice …Just a thought ..read in the New York Times yesterday how Congo boast of mineral wealth ..yes so much looted during the Belgian rule and so much taken away by investors of the day . so the poor remain poor in a catch 22 situation .the answers to the survival before this happened have been swept out by the Colonial masters agenda of looting and marketing ..Just a thought History is not the story of all men but still a forensic study is possible. My quest for truth renewed after reading Tharoor ‘Inglorious Empire ..on India worth a read sharing with you .we blunder may be as all leaders do .but the followers can turn the tide

Yes, in hindsight, we could say like that ALSO noticing how HONG KONG or the like countries have risen upto.
:
India is also not risen to be called, that INDIAN situation is improved. Over 600 mio in India live under poverty line. Just 5% or much less are said to be busy with soft ware industry. But their context is different from a smaller country of ours. Even 5-6 decades ago, India was identified as a nation who also belongs to those in industry-catergory. Latter is well connected with their population in that country. Their products can be ciculated within their local markets whatever being produced there. The same is with China. But smaller countries of our nature should always be dependent on others UNTIL we rise our heads to the manner, singapore or the like countries may have done. Ours is well comparable with that of Malaysia though the cutlurally we are sky high different from eath other. That alone may be reason them to have risen their head, while we have not.
:
What ever good move, even the good idea being misinterpreted by a significant portion of our society led by SO CALLED BUDDHIST clergy. So, our cultural forces lead the country not allowing any other forces to pop up. That has ruined our structures for such a long time. So long lanken analysts would not identify it properly, nothing will be easy to improve anything in this coutry.

Good points sharmini.there should be a reason for celebrating any events. They celebrate in expense of the people who are voiceless, marginalised and powerless who sacrificially contributed for the well being of this country. What you are spending is their money.where is your accountability and transparency???
/
Raj-UK / January 27, 2019
Ms Serasinghe
My utmost respect for you for speaking out, which, most would consider as ‘politically incorrect’ or even an act of treachery for the millions of ‘patriotic Sinhala Buddhists’ who would still like to celebrate the victory over a bunch of psychotic or brainwashed mob who terrorised in the guise of liberators of the Tamils. Of course the question is, did we actually win the war or was it only just another battle that was won. In my humble opinion, the armed forces may have won a battle & eliminated some criminals of ethnic minority but the war against racism & religious intolerance is far from over. The war on terrorism is over only when people born in SL, irrespective of their ethnic origins or religious beliefs, can live with respect & without intimidation or fear, to which every citizen has the right. So I agree with you when you ask what we are celebrating because the British left 71 years ago & we have nothing much to say as to what we have achieved since then. Certainly not prosperity.
An extravagant show of military might maybe favoured by dictatorships & autocratic regimes to intimidate all those who oppose the State, & no doubt, Sirisena would like to show the world the loyalty of his armed forces but as for the expense, it’s only a drop in the ocean for our politicians & there is nothing to say the money would be spent productively on pressing matters as an alternative to this extravagant show meant to please the natives in times of austerity.
.
At the end of the day, the SL politicians enjoy their perks (which even developed countries won’t offer their politicians) & the freedom to engage in money making enterprises without impunity, all paid for by the tax pay, including the dumb sods who hero worship, living in denial like frogs in a well.

Yes, we won a battle and NOT the war. I have been saying this repeatedly since 2009 but most don’t get it or, they don’t want to.

You are one best writers. you express so beautifully your thought, so beautifully written article. I will you must be writing on Sri Lankan daily on politics, Animal farm type of writing will suit you more to depict these political animals. There was famous Arab joker in middle age . His name is Jahiz/dh. He was famous for his charismatic joke about politicians: he wrote many drama like Shakespeare in English but what this Arab writer did was he depicted all dictatorial Arab rulers and compared them with animal characters. like in Animal farm I think now is right now some good writer come up with Sri Lankan type of Animal farm: You have so many foxes, so many tigers. so many lions, so many cows, in Sri Lankan parliaments. why not you create some sort of sarcastic writing depicting all these political animals. that will make them realised that they can not fool public. this is one way to shame and name politicians. these idiots do not give up until we do that. Thank you for your writing. keep it up.. your style of writing is very simple.but attractive , to the point. I hope you collect all your writing to publish a book later on.

Apart from Sharmini I suggest Mr Kandiah is the best person to write Srilankan ” Animal Farm ” . CT carried his articles sometime back that were appreciated by everyone. He is silent now. May be he is not well. Hope and pray he comes back with full vigour and meet CT readers wish by serialising his own” srilankan Animal Farm ” in CT.

Sharmini Serasinghe / January 28, 2019
Lankan 9,
I would love to write on the lines of ‘Animal Farm’ but, as an animal lover I don’t have the heart to insult them as they are far above most of those asinine twits in parliament.
However I did give it a shot through an article I wrote in February 2013 – The 21st Century Fox (https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/the-21st-century-fox/) – it went over the heads of many.
Hence I decided to take George Eliot’s advice, “The finest language is mostly made up of simple unimposing words”.

Fantastic response Ms Serasinghe.- hat off to you !
.
I could not stop laughing as I read this. Bravoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!: Yes indeed, animal lovers would never want to insult them.

Greta article ..
one correction you say and I quote
“71 years since the British fled our shores for their dear lives. “
This is misleading and gives the impression that Sri Lanka fought the British and they fled….
far from it …..British gave independence to what was the Ceylon on a plate.
71 years on Ceylon was transformed in to the present day Sri Lanka as you have articulated very well…
/
Sharmini Serasinghe / January 28, 2019
Rajesh,
My original paragraph included, ” 71 years since the British fled our shores for their dear lives. They would not have stayed even if we begged them to”.
However given that generations of Lankans have been brainwashed into believing that our forefathers actually “fought” for our independence, would have been totally flummoxed. Hence I deleted the sentence.

1948, 1956, 1977, 1983, 2009, 71 years of Tamil failure to integrate. 71 years of failure to abolish their caste differences. 71 years of looking down on the up-country Tamils. 71 years of trying to change Sinhala place names into Tamil. 71 years of selling to the Sinhalese but never buying from them. 71 years of only employing their own and infiltrating every Government department. 71 years of lying to the West. 71 years of playing the victim while holding ministerial positions in every government.
Sri Lanka is celebrating 71 years of keeping these villains at bay and preventing the break-up of the country.

“1948, 1956, 1977, 1983, 2009, 71 years of Tamil failure to integrate.”
–
Please explain what you mean by integration.
Do you really understand what integration means to every citizen of this island, including Kallthonies descendants such converts as you, Wimal, Eagle Blind Eye Nalin de Silva, Champika, Udhaya, Gota, Nayakkas, Lal loo, wannihami, ………… ?
–
“71 years of looking down on the up-country Tamils. “
–
True.
However the Sinhala/Buddhist state with the blessing of Mahanayake and consent of majority people went further and the hard working people were stripped of their citizenship some of them were deported to India, treated like legally none person, made sure they were paid starvation wages, bare minimum to keep them survive while slave driving them in extreme working condition, ….. earning foreign exchange, …. often the soft target of Sinhala/Buddhist thugs, ………………………. burned down lines, killing, ……….. rape, …. usually taken place with the connivance of officials and powerful politicians, for example Dutta Gamani, …..
Well you may not know all these facts because you have been living in a cradle since your birth up to now, sucking thumb, wearing diaper, Aya singing Lullaby, while thaththi groping her, … while Ammi gone shopping with the driver, ….
–
Excerpt from .island.lk/2003/01/27/
“During the English colonial period, there appeared a class of people among the Sinhalese who believed that by imitating the language of their colonial masters, they would have the privilege of being considered superior to the common persons who used Sinhala. They mainly used English and referred to their parents as “mama” and “papa”.

You wouldn’t dare quoting any credible evidence for rest of your act of pratting, would you?

Making Srilanka a SINHALA BAUDA State there by screwing the terms Sinhala and Bauda.

Ms. Serasinghe,
I shall indulge your moment of fantasy that Mangala Samaraweera should not be painted with the same brush as his other Parliamentary colleagues.
RW does not have his his head in the clouds; rather its deep inside another part of his anatomy! The gamemanship and politicking continues, despite the recent happenings. This must clearly show us observers that the leopard can never change its nature.
As for the rest of us! Well, the medicine to cure the selfish, self-righteous, self-serving tendencies most have nurtured in ourselves and our off-spring, will be bitter!
How can we give up the hard-won priviledges like hard-ship allowances, car permits, A grade schools for our children, and drivers for our spouses to get to the ym and supermarket? This open, govt approved corruption and bribery envelopes all segments of society. The Doctors, Engineers, Customs and Immigration, Private Transport, Railways, Sri Lankan airlines, Armed Services, Police etc etc etc. The Politicians have been very clever to infect the entire country, so no one can point fingers at another.
That’s why the Doctors care about the Singapore FTA, and the University Students care about Private Universities. It is not an area that affect them, but they have to protest about something, to create an environment of victim-hood. Did you ever hear the govt ask the Doctors to get back to work?. Anybody asked the students who make evening traffic a nightmare, what SAITM has got to do with them?. What about all the UK and Australian degrees not worth the grand convocations at the BMICH?. Those poor MBAs can’t draft a simple letter in English, if their lives depended on it! Yet, they apparently wrote award winning Thesis.
This is where the rubber hits the road. I will be the first to support the person who can speak to this conundrum and advocate a suitable medication.

Didn’t Mangala admit at the UN HRC in Geneva, that 70 years of nation building experiment in Sri Lanka has failed under successive governments. Can he explain what next for the resolution in Geneva, or more lies?
As for Independence Day this year, why not Sri Lanka exit Tamil Eelam, and start afresh as two independent peaceful nations, and develop and prosper, by the people and for the people.

Sharmini:
What has happened to you. I genuinly hope for your sake and that of your children and grand children that you are not going through a state of demetia . Old age can be cruel but let us get things into perspective.
Next week, Sri Lanka will be “celebrating” 71 years since the British fled our shores for their dear lives.
*** I am sure you know that the Brits didnt flee from Sri Lanka because we didnt shed any blood. When they lost the big apple( India ) they decided to offer independence to Sri Lanka and this was when Britain handed out the terrible injustice to the Tamils for which we have paid a heavy price.
*** Dont just blame the Politicians for all the terrible things that have happened . They played the race card and scooped the Jackpot becuse they had a willing audience.
Dont blame RW for all that we are seeing he is a prisoner of Circumstances. On the 4th of Feb Sri Lanka wont be celebrating Indenependance day as we are no loonger SOVEREIGN. Thanks to Mahintha Sri Lankas Soveeignty has been and is being erroded day by day. India by force has taken over large chunk of Sri Lanka
Latest 70% of Matalla and yet more to come.
Let me tell you what is going to happen.
At the next election Mahintha will sweep the board and that will be a disaster and final nail in the Coffin for Sri Lanka.

You know Sharmini, corrupted politicians need some sort of national events to bark once in a way to remind the foolish people of their presence. National Independence day also one of the events to those dirty idiots. I am sorry they are not idiots of that kind. They are clever enough to hoodwink the masses with sensational slogans to portray themselves as cardboard heroes and not mention here their ill-gotten of wealth. Sadly they had put our nation in a really bad situation which looks beyond repairs. People must be wondering why those culprits had not been punished. They are masquerading in the streets as the saviors of this failed nation.
/
K.Pillai / January 28, 2019
Thank you Sharmini Serasinghe for this article. The message is contained in the paragraph following “So, here goes”.
She gets us thinking laterally with “…….we the people of this country have been led down the garden path by our noses, by successive governments ……..”.
Some of the trigger-happy commenters probably did not read the next part!
Sharmini continues, “………of the two dominant political parties who used us, fooled us, abused us………”.
Some commenters are taking sides. Will this mindset change?
The next part is important, “……..and now, driven our country down into the debt-ridden dark hole it is in today”.
The two dominant political parties know exactly how deep and dark that hole is.
They are nonchalant but we, the victims, must not bury our heads in the sand.

We have plenty to celebrate.
* We have one of the few Armies in the world to have beaten a Guerilla outfit. God Bless the boys.
* We have the world’s best counter insurgency commando unit, the STF. God Bless them.
* We have a literacy rate of 100% (provided that you take the minorities out of the equation).
* We have a PQLI in par with the 1st world nations.
* Our avg Life expectancy is an impressive 75 years. Kick the unhealthy minorities out of the equation and it is a phenomenal 82 years.
So, if you have nothing to celebrate find yourself a Dildo and play with it. We have much to celebrate.
