An Indifferent God?

By Shyamon Jayasinghe

Shyamon Jayasinghe

“We had an admirable, though isolated, program in Rupavahini called “Yathaarthaya,” which had  the objective of making the public think critically. I was distressed to hear that that program has been withdrawn probably due to the pressures of astrologers”

Destruction

I am at a loss to make sense of all this and would like someone to try and help me to understand this. Just now, I watched over Al Jazeera how a pathetic, large-scale human tragedy is unfolding in the Indonesian province of Sulawesi. A 7.5 magnitude colossal earthquake followed by a tsunami has left over hundred thousand people-babes, kids, elderly and the sick included- starving, waiting until international agencies bring food. They have lost their homes. Over 1500 persons have been found dead and buried under the rubble. Hundreds of thousands still to be found. The province of Palu is also seriously affected.

The Question, “Why”?

Why did all this happen to the largest Muslim state in the world where people pray five times a day? Nobody can deny the justice of my question and I have no interest in belittling any faith. I ask as a rational and thinking man who is confronted with a puzzling situation. We need an answer as we are set with a challenge and we need to know where to go from here. If we were dumped in a foreign land and have lost our direction we enquire from those who know. I think the Indonesian crisis leaves thinking people thrown into serious confusion with regard to their exitential living. One cannot let the ball pass to the wicket keeper and continue with our assumptions for the simple reason that our very assumptions with respect to our existence and how we got here has come under challenge.

Provoked and the Unprovoked

To quote a story from the man-imposed tragic event called the holocaust, I like to turn to the novel, “ The Tattooist of Auschwitz,” written by Heather Morris. Auschwitz, we know, was one of Hilter’s prison camps located in Poland where  truck loads of Jews were brought in and dumped for execution suffocated by gas. These prisoners, man, woman and child-whole families -were uprooted from their homes and forcefully brought in to Auschwitz where they had to first work their bone out while in a starvation diet, constructing their own crematorium. When in a terribly weak condition these hapless persons were marched to the crematorium and suffocated to death. Their only crime was being Jew.

In this novel the main character, Lale Sokolov, is asked by Geeta another (woman) prisoner with whom Lale develops a love relationship:

“Do you still believe in God?”

“Not anymore after this..no”

In this example, Lale is a thinker who thought about the event. He did not let the ball pass. The event provoked and consumed him. Many natural and man-induced mass scale tragedies should provoke us to re-think our assumptions but they don’t do that; most of us, victims included, let the ball pass.

Worser still many affected find a way out to rationalise and justify their beliefs

Archbishop of Canterbury

I remember the massive Tsunami in 2004 when even Sri Lanka was attacked. The Archbishop of Canterbury, when questioned in the way I now question, responded saying he is severely ’embarrassed.’ The Archbishop was being frank. He was a thinker. Perhaps the Archbishop reflected: “where is God ? Why is he indifferent? Or, more simply, does he exist at all?” Or even, in a mood of self-guilt, “Am I conning around with my parish?”

Getting Around or Rationalising the Event

Those who don’t bother to question can be left alone as hapless persons who are silenced by sheer incompetence; they are walking dead. On the other hand, the hard nuts are those who present theoretical explanations to justify the happening and keep the God assumption afloat.

In the Indonesian event, it is reported how a woman raised her hands and praised God for having saved her. Did it not occur to her to ask why God allowed the suffering of so many millions?

On a similar vein one can recall how many a time a ‘cancer survivor,’ has praised God for having  saved him. Most of these have been cases of temporary  disappearance of symptoms. They are called remissions. But that does not bother such persons. They go down on their knees and make thanksgivings. Why did it not occur to these lucky ones  that the majority of patients will not even have remissions but will suffer and die? How could that be a thankful event?

Besides, why does it not occur to such persons to ask why God had let him get the dreadful disease and suffer, in the first place?

Among the many other rationalisers are those who attempt to get a bit more sophisticated. They say “God moves in mysterious ways… it is not our right to question these events.” They might point out that God has a “plan,” for each of us and we must submit to his divine will. There are over 8 billion people in the world living in every nook and corner of the planet. Could one even imagine how a God can pick and implement and monitor his plan in respect of each of these 8 billion persons? Doesn’t make sense isn’t it? But no, to the believer it does make sense.

All these objectors have one thing in common: their  brains are wired to believe and have faith under any circumstances. I need not refer to those who cling to their positions for material gain.

Karma Theory

The Indian Karmic theory, although followed by many religionists who name themselves as atheists (Buddhists etc) also seem to be predicate an assumption of an Orderer or Commander whose task is to ration and allocate desserts to those who live undesirable lives. How else can a negative deed lead the dying individual to a specific appropriate fate in the next life. I remember how my mother got womb cancer in her very young days. My father who was given to astrological thinking went to an Indian soothsayer who constructed a rigmarole about my mother having been in her previous birth, a princess born to a royal family in China and how she had kicked a pregnant woman. “This cancer in the womb is a result of that evil karma,” the conner said. Now, this is a con story obviously but I bring this here to hypothesise a scenario  of a person being reborn to a pattern of life determined  by her previous doings in a previous birth. Such a development implies an Orderer or Commander who will note and micro-manage the nasty behaviour of persons in order to re-order their next life. The acts themselves could not have the potential to do that job of re-orderer.

If one doesn’t subject given beliefs like the above to critical scrutiny, it all would look very reasonable. The woman who kicked a pregnant woman deserves to get cancer in the womb!

Call for Critical Scrutiny

It  is the job of educationalists to inculcate a critical sense among students who would make up the world of  their time. In Australia, critical thinking projects are  embedded all subjects. In some other Western countries, critical thinking is taught separately in a dedicated way. No country can afford a population that wouldn’t question the claims of others-whoever the latter maybe.

Religion cannot be granted a protected status when it comes to free enquiry. Religion makes propositions with regard to reality. Today, that is the job of science. Scientific propositions can be validated at lest temporarily until new contradicting  evidence comes up. On the other hand, religionists argue that religious explanations of reality are true for all time and can never be questioned even in the face of contradicting evidence. Copernicus questioned, when his telescope showed a different reality. The poor bloke got into trouble and, to save his life, he was forced to recant all what he told:

“No..no.. what I said was poppycock.”

The biggest earthquake in religious beliefs was presented by Charles Darwin, when he found evidence from fossils of plant and animals, which countered the assumption that man was created by God.  But Charles Darwin was more diplomatic and would defer the release of his findings  for a “better” day.

It is a pity that Sri Lanka has lost its way in promoting critical thinking. The concern is nowhere in our syllabii and is not taught separately either. Despite nearly 60 decades of free education, we have an uncritical population most of whom gulp down every fake and slanted  claims and accusations of politicians. The generality of our people are easily caught up by emotional slogans  relating to  ethnicity or religion; they cannot develop a sense of where the country needs to go and how we can get there. Our media is dominated by the ill-products of our deficient education system. Many of the media formidables are not products of universities. The blind leads the blind.

Look at our media: Television channels, for instance, are flooded by astrologers and soothsayers and men and women of the Black Art. We had an admirable, though isolated, program in Rupavahini called “Yathaarthaya,” which had  the objective of making the public think critically. I was distressed to hear that that program has been cancelled, probably due to the pressures of astrologers.

Believing in a non-existing God is as same as “Sinhala Modayas” believing in a NON-EXISITING TOOTH RELIC at Dalada Maligawa where today you can witness only Canine Tooth as long as three inches. Can a human tooth be as long as 3 inches?

How Portuguese took Dalada to Goa and crushed it into powder is a mind-harrowing historical story reproduced by Leonard Woolf in his autobiographies: Sawing – Growing.

on the west people are made to believe in a single god. …

On the arab coutnries they are made to believe in their all mighty allah ( one single god).

In latin america and other poor countries inthe world they are made to believe in one single god eithe going by Islam or Christianity…

In SL and other coutnries where Buddhas teachings are manipulated and have made people fools, believe in NO EXISTING god.

When looking at all these, me as a BORN buddhist in SL, i believe no good, but I beleieve some sorta of power should have been behind the HUMAN beings and their existence on the earth.

      Mr.Jayasingha,
The fate of “Yatharthaya” is a symptom of the intellectual malaise in this country. We are steadily being pulled back into feudal obscurantism by a cabal made up of clergy, astrologers and conniving politicians, and so-called “local intellectuals”. These local intellectuals may have degrees in science, but leave it at their institution when they go home. These “scientists” are found wearing thick “Pirith nools” and being advised by Natha Deviyo on the causes of Kidney disease. Many, like Channa Jayasumana, are racists and “historical experts”.
We know all about M.R’s attitude to astrology, but what can we expect from a person of that level of education? What is worse is the sight of Ranil , who is said to be genuinely e.ducated, running to some temple in India on a regular basis.
The clergy of course have much to gain by keeping the population in thrall with their fairy stories. They get to sell more snake oil, make more DVD’s of banal sermons, run multiple TV channels, and generally pressurize elected governments.

        Sorry bear with me.
Are you saying that this island is increasingly being geared towards a system where executive, judicial and legislative powers will be vested among monks, astrologers and armed forces?

        Good idea.
No need to get up, get ready and walk to poll station on every election day irrespective of rain or shine.

Effect of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake on Sri Lanka.

Red Cross volunteers removes corpse from the shore
        Date 26 December 2004
        Epicenter Indonesia
Casualties 30,196 confirmed dead, 21,411 injured
Sri Lanka was one of the countries struck by the tsunami resulting from the Indian Ocean earthquake on December 26, 2004. On January 3, 2005, Sri Lankan authorities reported 30,000+ confirmed deaths

Many of the dead were adults and the elderly. The south and east coasts were worst hit. One and a half million people were displaced from their homes. The death toll continued to rise as the threat of infectious diseases breaking out turned into a reality, with doctors confirming first cases of cholera.

Nimal the problem in Sinhalayas are even worst. They just laugh at gods but they behave even more primitive.. meaning many of them including SIVURA wearing so called monks. I am born buddhist, but I dont respect any lies being spread on buddhism, but I respect only the teachings of Buddha. We are related to late Rev. Like for example, I happened tonotice a rain bow lately, me being on the top ofa 5 storied building – in Germany, that was but not similar to the Rainbow I had seen before in SL. But none around in Germany went on mad calling it any kind of radiations of any gods.

SHYAMON, thought provoking.Thanks. But Be prepared for hoards of criticism.Right now I am in the same dilemma as you. All the religious fanaticism going around me not just in Lanka but global, how it is being exploited by the same people we trust, religion being weaponized by the politicians for their own gain., religion being abused by the same followers who have turned it to a business model with account books and accountants, religion is now being judged in terms of money and man power(like TV ratings), it is pretty much materialized where money is involved in all activities( donations and gifts), the abuses we hear daily taking place all over world, the fanaticism has grown to the extent with in religion there is no tolerance or patience anymore and disrespect, intolerance and now hatred toward other religions, it has become more of dividing than uniting factor. The abuses we hear daily taking place all over world When I see some of this within my own faith is when I question the purpose and need for a religion???????

The same attitude is seen in our approach to political leaders.

Those who follow MR think he is a god and those who follow RW think he is god’s gift to liberal democracy.

At least I can see MR does not think he is a god. He knew his limitations. He allowed others to run the economy ( like PB, Cabrall, Gota etc) and concentrated on consolidating his ( and his family)political power and also made money whenever possible(this is a country which worships the rich-even a temple will go after money)

But RW thinks he knows it all. He knows economics , international politics, diplomacy , governance etc etc. In fact he is only a lawyer. For him little learning has become dangerous.See the state of the country today !

In the bond scam-the man who brought in his life long friend Mahendran there, empowered him, protected him, defended him is free. But all those who got money from Perpetual later, are guilty !

This is because we rationalize everything about RW to make him look good and condemn everybody else.

    Things to ponder

Why did all this happen to the largest Muslim state in the world where people pray five times a day?

    Why did all this happen?

Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.”

    Why is he coming?

This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back

    Why he said ?

    Mahatma Gandhi
Let the first act of every morning be to make the following resolve for the day:

    – I shall not fear anyone on Earth.
    – I shall fear only God.

This why majority believe the unseen God.

dear author do you believe in the existence of evil spirits. if you do then why can’t you believe in the opposite that God exists? Friend the word of God is not about living a worldly life enjoying and fulfilment of the fleshly desires. it is a preparation of your spirit body for eternal life. In heaven for those who lived according to the will of God or hell for those who didn’t. God permits disasters to bring man back to the right path.
Greivence and lose awakens a man to seek the word of God and live a life pleasing to God. Just because you pray daily a hundred time means that your life is pleasing to God it is your works that bring you to reward or destruction.

    “Call for Critical Scrutiny”

shyamon,do some critical thinking of the following.During my travels i have been in climates that are freezing cold and in other countries boiling hot.Even when i come to colombo i wonder how people tolerate the heat and humidity especially in march, april and may.In sydney you must be enjoying one of the best climates in the world ,lucky you,or should i say your good deeds of your previous birth and not luck got you there.Whenever i am in horrible climates due to my past sins i used to wonder what would have happened if the temperature was up by a few degrees or came down by a few degrees.I suppose science tells us that the temperature is determined by the distance the earth is from the sun.Do some critical thinking for me please,as to what would have happened if the design was such we were a little bit closer to the sun or a little bit farther. How did it end up exactly at the right spot from the sun.was it an accident or was it designed like that?

Shankar, while you are travelling use the time to think and read. Don’t let your God switch off your brain.
      .
First get rid of the delusion that we are the only planet with life in the whole of the universe. There are billions of solar systems out there where there is sun similar to our SUN with earthlike planets. Where there are conditions conducive to life, life would start.
      .
Our Earth happens to be just one of them.

“First get rid of the delusion that we are the only planet with life in the whole of the universe. “

until we find life on other planets we have to assume we are the only ones. You call this need for proof of alien life as a delusion.Do you know what delusion means? It means a belief being maintained despite being contradicted by reality. If you had shown me evidence of alien life and i still maintained that planet earth is the only one with life, then you are right to call me delusional, which is a mental problem.

“Where there are conditions conducive to life, life would start.”

agreed, but let us look at these conditions shall we.Scientists say the galaxies and the entire universe was started wit the big bang.According to your theory many planets would have a sun at exactly the right distance from the planet so that warmth and cold can be tolerated and life would flourish.Do you think this is the only condition required for life to thrive. How many conditions have to be created ‘accidently’ for life to prolifer? For example not only is the earth at the right distance from the sun,it also rotates on its axis. Was this also a accident created by the big bang. What a great accidental designer the big bang was.By the earth rotating on its axis and also rotating around the sun at exactly the same distance from it we are warmed and cooled during the day and can work during the day and sleep at night. imagine how important sleep is to us to rest our organs at night.

Shankar, be glad that you are living in a whole new enlightened age and not in medieval times when all new ideas, were considered heretic and bulldozed together with the thinker.
          .
According to the Bible, the Earth was created only some 6000 odd years ago. This big fallacy accumulates more fallacies and the end result is nothing but a big LIE. It is science and technology that gave us the devices that make life comfortable not the stupid thoughts guided by the Bible, Quran or the Torah. Religious zealots have no problem with subjects such as Mechanics, Thermodynamics etc. and gleefully use the devices that use such theories. But subjects like the Theory of Evolution, Cosmology etc. are like Andu leaves for the Cobra to them. (නයාට අඳු කොල වගේ).
          .
One thing is certain. Your God is a lousy architect. It is so stupid to put a sewer next to every pleasure park. That is not all. Just consider the park availability. It is kept closed for a number of days every month without any warning. You go there with a lot of hope of having fun and you are told ‘it is closed for maintenance’. Even the gas turbines I work with have better availability. I ask you, is a GT more complex than a park? NO!
          .
Adding to the problem is the fact there is no fixed schedule of maintenance. The management closes the park at their whims and fancies – something that is taboo in GT maintenance. So what is the result? We go roaming all over the town looking for other parks.
          .
Conclusion: Gaban Atha should have chosen a better subcontractor.

You are being homo-centric. You assume that all life is like us. NO, it isn’t. There are creatures at the bottom of the ocean that don’t need oxygen to survive. Even in the driest parts of the deserts, there is life. Just check out the tardigrades, tiny creatures which can survive a nuclear explosion or a complete vacuum as in outer space.

Drake equation: Sankar, the following equation is called the Drake equation. I am not going to go in to any explanations and waste my time. Google for ‘Drake Equation’ and read if you are still capable of reading anything other than the Bible, Quran or the Tora.

      The Drake equation is:
      N = R ∗ ⋅ f p ⋅ n e ⋅ f l ⋅ f i ⋅ f c ⋅ L
      where:
      N = the number of civilizations in our galaxy with which communication might be possible (i.e. which are on our current past light cone);
      and
R∗ = the average rate of star formation in our galaxy
fp = the fraction of those stars that have planets
ne = the average number of planets that can potentially support life per star that has planets
fl = the fraction of planets that could support life that actually develop life at some point
fi = the fraction of planets with life that actually go on to develop intelligent life (civilizations)
fc = the fraction of civilizations that develop a technology that releases detectable signs of their existence into space
L = the length of time for which such civilizations release detectable signals into space

On November 4, 2013, astronomers reported, based on Kepler space mission data, that there could be as many as 40 billion Earth-sized planets orbiting in the habitable zones of Sun-like stars and red dwarf stars within the Milky Way galaxy. 11 billion of these estimated planets may be orbiting Sun-like stars.

However, what fraction of this contains intelligent life is another matter. With some people getting brainwashed by religions and becoming unthinking idiots, may be even zero.

i don’t want to be dragged through the universe by you and making me mad.You are a engineer i presume so just answer my question whether you as an engineer could have designed our planet in a way that it orbits around the sun, rotating on its axis and keeping the correct distance to keep us alive. Can it accidently occur or is it a deliberate design? That is all i want to know.Accidents do happen but the complexity and difficulty of something like this occurring accidently, what is the % probability.

        • 1
          0

Terraforming: Shankar, taking your question, whether as an engineer, I could have designed our planet in a way that it orbits around the sun, rotating on its axis and keeping the correct distance to keep us alive, my answer is a theoretical ‘Yes’. Given enough time, material and energy I can do it. Best estimates show that the universe has been around for 13.8 billion years and the Earth 4.6 billion years ago. So I have 9.2 billion years to complete my project. Not a lot – but enough to give it a try.
          .
But there is a way of doing it faster and easier. Take a solar system with a sun similar to ours that is already formed with the planets orbiting the sun in highly non circular orbits. We take a planet of suitable size and attach a huge rocket to it and fire it as a retro rocket (in a direction to reduce orbital velocity) every time the planet passes through its perihelion (the closest approach to the sun). The result will be a reduction in the aphelion (the furthest point from the sun), without affecting the perihelion. (i.e.) The orbit becomes more circularized.
          .
This method has been used by NASA to circularize the orbits of its Mars Explorer satellites. Note that a circular polar orbit is desirable for the best coverage of the planet’s surface. Initially the satellite has a highly eccentric orbit and a maneuver called Aero Braking, similar to the above, is carried out at periapsis to circularize the orbit. The method uses no fuel, as in a retro rocket. It uses atmospheric friction. Care has to be taken not to dip too deep in to the atmosphere.

“We take a planet of suitable size and attach a huge rocket to it “

we know that is not feasible.Just imagine the size of the rocket that has to be constructed to alter the course of example the earth.Only god can do that.

anyway even if it can be done just see the following steps

“fire it as a retro rocket (in a direction to reduce orbital velocity) every time the planet passes through its perihelion (the closest approach to the sun). “

how many times this will have to be done until we get it right.Certainly does not favour accidental occurrence if it has to be done over and over again. So the probability of a deliberate design is higher, than a accidental one.

Terraforming: Shankar, I hope you understand why we cannot use the NASA method of aero braking for our planet. It is because the sun’s atmosphere is a very hot plasma of millions of degrees, that would burn out our New Earth to a cinder in the first pass. How much should we reduce the aphelion? As we started with a sun very much similar to ours, we will try a target of 152 million km for the aphelion and 147 million for the perihelion (the values for our solar system).
          .
So, when the aphelion reaches a value of 152 million km we start raising the perihelion. That is done by using the same rocket firing in the opposite direction at aphelion. This has no effect on the aphelion but increases the perihelion. The process is stopped when we get the value we targeted for the beginning.
          .
But don’t think that is the end. It is only the end of the beginning. The other main things we have to do are,
          1. Make the rotational speed once a day.
          2. Adjust the rotational axis tilt to 24.5 deg.
          3. Introduce a wobble of 23,000 year duration
          4. Make a Moon
          5. Introduce water
          6. Introduce drifting continents
          7. Introduce a primitive atmosphere
But I will leave that to you.
          .
I have to go and get the population explosion going. All those maidens are waiting for me in the Garden of Eden.

Terra –Gambling: You ask, Can it accidently occur or is it a deliberate design … blah blah? The answer is – Yes, it can occur by chance. I would not call it accidental.
            .
Probability theory tells us that even a single trial of extremely low probability can become a substantial probability when the trial is repeated a large number of times. Mathematically,
            .
Let, p = the probability of having a planet that orbits around a sun like ours, rotating on its axis and keeping the correct distance to keep us alive. (Here, I am using the fractional probability (0 to 1) and not % probability). Note that p is a nearly zero but not quite.
            .
            As an example, let p = 1/1,000,000,000 (1 in a billion).
            .
(i.e.) p = 0.000,000,001. An extremely small number signifying an extremely unlikely, yet not impossible, event.
            .
            What is the probability of getting a non-habitable solar system? This is = (1 – p) = 0.999,999,999 a highly likely event.
            .

            What is the probability of getting both solar systems being non habitable in a collection of two solar systems? = (1 – p).(1 – p) = (1 – p)2 = 0.999,999,998
            .
Extending this to 1,000,000 solar systems, we get the probability of none being habitable is = 0.999
            .
Making the probability of having at least one habitable solar system = 1 -0.999 = 0.001 or 1 in a thousand.
            .
In general we can say, the probability of having at least one habitable solar system in a total of N systems = (1 – (1 – p)^N)
So we see that as the number of solar systems is increased, the likelihood of a having at least one habitable system increases exponentially.

the probability analysis is good it gives the method but not the final answer.,but i still like to know whether it is a 1%{my estimate) probability or not that a planet can be at the correct distance and rotating on its axis.forget about the habitability for the moment and look at only these two factors.use For N 100 billion when using the formula (1 – (1 – p)^N). What is your %?

so all this was necessary to make the earth at the correct distance and rotating on its axis. Even a deliberate design seems so difficult, how could the earth have been accidently brought to the correct distance from the sun and rotate on its axis. From your description of designing accidental probabilty is zero and deliberate design probablity is 100% don’t you think. What are your percentages?

You are like my 13 year old grandson, asking too many questions without the required knowledge to understand the answers. At least read my answers before you ask and check whether the answer has already been given or not.
          .
The clear answer to your question was already given in my comment of 9th Oct under Drake Equation. I repeat it below:
          .
there could be as many as 40 billion Earth-sized planets orbiting in the habitable zones of Sun-like stars and red dwarf stars within the Milky Way galaxy. 11 billion of these estimated planets may be orbiting Sun-like stars.
          .
The habitable zone is not the same for all stars. It depends on the size of the star, its light spectrum, age and its type etc. Anyway, the estimated number of planets comes down from 40 to 11 billion when we consider only the sun-like starts.
          .
Rotational axis: According to the accepted theory of planetary formation, planets are formed from a disk of dusty material orbiting around the star. A number of planets are usually formed from this cloud. That is why all planets have the same direction of rotation except for any captured objects, which may be counter rotating.
          .
The axis of rotation of the sun and the planets would be perpendicular to the original disk because, the angular momentum has be conserved in the process. It is thought that Earth got the 23 deg tilt in the rotational axis due to a collision with a huge foreign object, which also led to the formation of our moon.
          .

Shankar, In the BBC documentary ORBIT, which is also available in You Tube, Coomentators Kate Humble and Dr. Helen Czerski go on a mission to chronicle the devastating effects of Earth’s movements. By following its voyage around the sun for one complete orbit, 584 million miles, Humble and Czerski discover why the planet tilts and how this results in such weather events as monsoons. They also find that some of the smallest changes in Earth’s movement caused ice ages and that another glacial period could happen in the future.
            .

This is a video documentary made in such a way that even a 13 year old can understand. Please do not close your eyes to progress and waste your time reading the Bible, because you are scared of an unseen, unheard, untouched, un-smelling and most of all, a Non -Existing entity, created by man, called GOD.

I too have a grandson who is 28 years. He never asked questions from me.As for yours asking questions he must be an inquisitive one and it is natural at 13 years to be curious about everything. As for me i will be 99 in december and i’am curious only about one thing, what is going to happen to me after death. No bad prognosis or anything, never been hospitalised, but when i do go into hospital one day i feel i will not come out.It is mainly psychological due to the age factor.

“At least read my answers before you ask and check whether the answer has already been given or no”

At least read my replies properly edwin. In the first line i have quoted what you said, which proves i have read your answers.I have read every word you have written and found it most illuminating.i have asked 2 simple specific questions for which you have not given answers because i suppose scientists have not been able to find any planets that have 150 million km and rotation on axis.

This shows that research into the universe is still at initial stages and there are vast amounts of facts that are yet to be verified. So we can’t be sure that your conclusions or mine are correct at the moment.Alas for me it is too late now.

              Shankar,
              Your 2 Questions –
1- What would have happened if the design was such we were a little bit closer to the sun or a little bit farther.
2- How did it end up exactly at the right spot from the sun. Was it an accident or was it designed like that?
              .
Answer -1: The use of the word design shows that you are fixated on the idea that it is all by design. No amount of logical facts and explanations can convince you if you start with the premise. Let me requote Dawkins.
              .
“The designer hypothesis raises the problem of who designed the designer. ”
              .
Answer -2: If I agree it is designed, then the following hypothetical dialogue may arise between me and you.
              .
Me: Why do you say there is a designer?
You: Nothing can exist without a designer. Ex: A watch.
Me: If everything has a designer, who designed the designer?
You: That is a stupid question! How can you question God?
              .

By that you relegate your God to the same status as the Tooth Fairy or the Flower Fairy, whom many children, including my grandchildren, vehemently believe, exist. I tried to explain to my grandchildren that they do not exist and they insisted: Okay Grandpa, prove that they do not exist. And I found that no one can prove nor disprove the existence of those stupid fairies.
              .
Shankar can you prove that God exists? Even if he exists, you cannot prove that the Universe was created by him. For all I know, God may have been a subcontractor for my Grandpa Gaban Atha, who is the ultimate designer.

You say, “i suppose scientists have not been able to find any planets that have 150 million km and rotation on axis”. No Shankar, they have found many.
              .
As of Sept. 18th, 2015, Kepler (NASA’s Planet hunting satellite) has identified 4,696 potential candidates, many of them falling into the categories of Earth-size or “Super-Earth” size. Many of these are located in the habitable zone of their parent stars, and some even around Sun-like stars.
              .
The habitable zone, also called the Goldilocks Zone, is the range of distances from a star where a planet’s temperature allows liquid water oceans, critical for life similar to ours. 150 km is not a magic number. It has a fairly large spread and its boundaries are fuzzy.
              .
Further analyses suggests that about one-quarter of the larger stars surveyed may also have Earth-size planet orbiting within their habitable zones. Taken together, the stars observed by Kepler make up about 70% of those found within the Milky Way. So one can estimate that there are literally tens of billions of potentially habitable planets in our Milky Way Galaxy alone.
              .
There are about 10 billion galaxies in the observable universe! The number of stars in a galaxy varies, but assuming an average of 100 billion stars per galaxy means that there are about 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (that’s 1 billion trillion) stars in the observable universe!
              .
Assuming as low as 1% (a highly pessimistic figure) of them being Earth sized planets, rotating on their axis as well as situated in the habitable zone, we get 10,000,000,000,000,000,000 Earths. Much more than even a God like Gaban Atha could handle. Hence the sub-contracting to minor Gods like the God of the Bible.

It is the nature Shankar- nothing else. This is how I feel having studies them closely over a period.

Going back to the era where the explosions resulted to form land and water the way the various countries emerged. Then how from the very first molecules (amino acids and other fundemental molecules) and their fusion came int o being forming the first living organisms on the planet. Later as evolution theories postulates the way how first ans formost living beings evolved to the advanced creatures etc – and to human being.
All these though the provable theories, there are loads of pot holes in them. There, leaving the question open further people to think of a god. God is the forces that could and should have been behind the control of creation itself and the thoughts and minds of the human being. THere, those theory makers themselves gave HUMAN being is a place no second to other beings right ?
Looking back but consdiering all what is discovered by research experts sofar, what I believe is the life is nothign beyond just a reaction. There, I too fall into depths when get to read or hear about so called true stories of SAME family reigncarnation or other forms of rebirths that pscychologists have to date made much hopes even accepting them. However, most of those stories found in and out SL are – on the west last just few months only. That again makes people worried not giving a surety of the reigncarnation theories.
All in all, I believe, it is just a random incident how the earth or other planets formed on this universe.

Thanks Shaymon, for choosing a timely and very interesting subject.
    .
    1) Why do we have lower standards of behavior for Gods than for Humans? The standards by which an omnipotent all loving God is judged must be infinitely more strict that those for humans. But are they? If a human kills an innocent child, then the whole society turns on him. An omnipotent God kills thousands of innocent children in a Tsunami, and the faithful say that it is an act of God and something we cannot understand.
    .

    2) I have a very religious Filipino working with me in the same office who happens to be a Padre of a group called Chosen Group Christian Fellowship (. When I put the above idea to him after the recent Tsunami, he evaded answering for several days, perhaps trying to find a reasonable answer, and finally on being pressured came out with the following answer.
    .
Earthquakes/Tsunamis (caused by continental drift) are caused by Nuclear tests carried out by US, Britain and other countries in the past. Before I could ask him, what about the Earthquakes/Tsunamis that occurred before 1945, the year the first such tests were carried out, he ran away.
    .
    4) God may be anything else, but he cannot be a good civil engineer. Only a stupid civil engineer would site a sewerage pipe next to a pleasure park.

Old Codger, in Bahiya Sutta, Buddha told Bahiya, Ditte Dittamattam Bhavissathi. (In the seen there is only the seen, and so on for hearing, smell, senses etc.) I have started to nderstand this Sutta (a short cut to Nirvana) a little, and I think where the pleasure park is concerned, there is a pleasure park and that is it. Don’t get attached to it. its purpose is to provide pleasure. Have it and leave, like bee taking honey from a flower. Just enjoy and forget. But a sewer is a sewer and nothing else.

Why people are tending to believe that the god is a being similar to a human being ?

I think masses who stay mum not adding anything about the existence of a god – feel that there are some invisible- unimaginable but powerful forces behind every unexplainable happernings.
Earlier, prior to becoming clear, that there should be HIV or other deadly viruses – human beings should have died – but to that time, the science and research were not that developed. I remember my elders saying – that their elders did survive even COMMON cold in 40ties or prior to that. To that era too, those micro organisms now the researchers are dealing with should have been existent. Besides, those theories based on evolution and lab research- proved those organisms should have been the preliminary beings on the earth.
And the term TSUNAMI came to light with the TSUNAMI disaster also took over 50k or more in our island in 2004. Explanation of Geo and oceonologists together with physists brought as understandble. I today strongly believe, people s nature is if new findings would bring proper explanation, still to hang on with their own theories.
See how many of our people in a country with over 95% litaray believe in Astrology and Sorcery tricks being played by some greedy groups in the country.
I now believe, nothign else, but SADHGURU or the like EXISTING Gurus could help me more than any one else. His explanation about human existence and the world guides me today – at least for the time being, not puzzling me any more.

Shyamon, the Buddha taught that his discovery was like a knife. If handled the wrong way it would harm rather than heal. Make sure you understand what Kamma and Kamma Vipaka are before writing about them. You can find out about them here https://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/study/kamma.html

Shaymon, you ask, “Why did all this happen to the largest Muslim state in the world where people pray five times a day”?
    .
My answer is, why not? More people died in our country in 2004 Tsunami. Your question is sensible, if there is a God (Allah). If there is no such entity as God, the question does not arise. Those people were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Just a matter of probability.
    .
I am sure no one wonders why a certain coconut tree got uprooted by the Tsunami, while another a few feet away was not. Is it because of Karma, or is it because the lucky tree believed in God and the other did not?
    .
My friend Filipino padre (CGCF), was one day telling me, God has no END and no Beginning. I said, God has no END, no Beginning and Nothing in Between too.
    .
Buddha referred to Brahma (equivalent to God of the Bible), as unseen, unheard and unfelt. Edwin would like to add unseen, unheard and unfelt and non-existing.
    .
St. Aquinas in his proof of God requests us to imagine a being who is the most powerful, one can imagine. Then there must be a being even powerful than that and that is God.
    .
I would like to request St Aquinas (who must be in heaven) to imagine a God that exists and is the most powerful one can imagine. If a God who exists and creates everything is considered so great then a God who does not exist and does all that must be greater. Therefore, to be the greatest, God must not exist.

    SJ,

What is your question, is it about people dyeing or how they die, for people have been dyeing in different ways from the beginning of time, war, famine, atomic bomb etc etc, for an example, what do you think will happen if you feel sorry for the Deers in the wild and take out all the meat eaters ? the Deers will procreate to a level that very soon that they will self destruct, you see someone has put in a system to maintain the balance. same way, you come in to this world without any of your doing and taken away when necessary, you have no power whatsoever over this phenomenon.

And in the case of the muslims, the more trials and suffering they go through the faith increases, even more, take Palestine for example, 7o years of suffering, but no one budges an inch, this tells you everything about faith because for them this life is not the be all and the end all. of course in the course of sinhalese, you would have become Fernando’s, Don Juans, and Solaman dias to pass the day with comfort, but that is not the case with the muslims.

Just because people die or how they die doesn’t mean GOD doesn’t exist. moreover the fact that people die prematurely demands that there should be a hereafter to ask the GOD why he died prematurely when people like you are living a comfortable life in Sydney. where others are suffering in the deserts of Africa.

In his 2006 Best Seller, Richard Dawkins writes,, “The temptation [to attribute the appearance of design to actual design itself] is a false one, because the designer hypothesis immediately raises the larger problem of who designed the designer. The whole problem we started out with was the problem of explaining statistical improbability. It is obviously no solution to postulate something even more improbable”.

To the mathematically minded, the proof of God incurs what is known as a Infinite Regression. What was Buddha’s explanation of how Universe came in to existence? Buddha said that the pondered on it extensively and did not find an answer. It is a waste of time to dwell on it and distracts one from the main problem. How to escape from Samsara?

Do you know how many people die due drunk driving annually

Do you know how many people die due to excessive eating annually

Due you know how man deaths the Americans and the Russian were responsible in the last 50 years

Check the facts , you will fall down from your chair, where does GOD come here,

Your argument is very lame and unsubstantiated

Shyaman you must have very few grey matter upstairs, that is why you tried to pull wool over people’s eyes showing a video of MR and Cabral, while claiming one thing as the video said something completely different, both in sound and caption Now you are pontificating about critical thinking! Do some thing else elsewhere Shyaman, your chicanery is no match for sharp perception of sane and the wise.

I live a moderate life and do not believe in any Religion, as all are man made. Man has lived much, much before any of the present day Religions have been found. My perception is that Religion is for weak minds, unable to rationalise events in life. People want to believe in the Supernatural just to appease their minds. It is not that God created mankind, but it is man that created God. Of all Religions the ruthless is Islam, where the adherents are not allowed to question their faith. If any does he/she will be killed by fellow Islamist’s and not by Allah who is non existent. In Islam if a Moslem kills another to defend Islam, it is said that he will be offered 13 virgins. I wonder how when his mortal body is left behind in this planet, how he can enjoy virgins in spirit? Besides where are the virgins stored in numbers to offer 13 to one individual? Certainly not in human form? How dumb the Muslims are to believe this kind of story, is beyond imagination. As for Christians the belief that Jesus died for the sins of humans. Jesus died 2018 years ago and certainly not for the sins of the present day Christians. Besides when infants die, what sin have they committed? The Buddhists are still in their primitive stage worshiping stone/cement/trees to collect merit to go to Nirvana. The biggest hoax is the tooth relic. Surely there are enough Sinhala Buddhist Dentists to examine the supposed tooth, to establish it’s authenticity? If it is a hoax as suspected, what agony and hardship could be avoided by the public that experience on a daily basis with the adjacent road being closed, is the height of foolishness. This country will never develop to the first world order with the mindset of Upasaka Mhattayas and Mathawoes, who are busy preparing for life after, than living a good life they have now.

gamini, Gabanism is different. It is not a man made religion but a grandfather made one. Also, unlike other Gods, God Gaban has a beginning, an end and something in between too. It is that something in between that created my father and then my father created with his something in between.

      Hail Gaban, Prince of Darkness!

“It is a pity that Sri Lanka has lost its way in promoting critical thinking.”
Shyamon, Sri Lanka lost its way when Tuition Classes and School Teachers promoted the idea, that reproducing Prepared answers to Exam Questions was the only way to get a ‘Good Education’!
Good Education is much more than that! Good education Prepares a Student to think Critically!

The Way Teaching is done now in Sri Lanka, we have come to Accept anything a corrupt Politician says as Gospel Truth!

Most of the Hindu god men in India are fraudsters, serial rapists and crooks. The popularity of all religions (except perhaps Islam which is a rigid religion promising key to heaven if he dies fighting for Allah is on the decline.
It was not Copernicus but Galileo who first saw the planets and stars through his telescope. Copernicus, a priest by profession, was a keen student of Astronomy. During his time the Pope prohibited astronomers from teaching that the earth was round and it circled the sun contrary to what the Bible said. Copernicus wrote the Treatise “De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium” (“On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres”) in 1532. In it, Copernicus established that the planets orbited the sun rather than the Earth. It was published after his death fearing the Pope. Copernicus laid out his model of the solar system different from that of Aristotle 1,700 years earlier. These days some Catholic Bishops openly declare that they don’t believe in God. That is a good omen.

It is man who created the god out of fear. Fear for his life, property, earthquakes, floods, cyclones, diseases etc. This is why you see thousands of gods all over the world. The one time mighty and powerful Greek and Romans gods are now in museums.
Followers of Christianity don’t believe in Hindu gods and vice-versa. So they are the real atheists. Islam claims Allah is the only God and others are false. So are Hindus, Christians, Jews and Sikhs each claiming their God(s) are the true Gods. Buddha is the only rationalist among religious leaders who neither denied nor owned up the existence of god. According to him talking about Gods is a waste of time.
In North India there lived a recluse by the name Shiradi Bawa. Sai Bawa claimed he is the reincarnation of Shiradi Bawa. After the demise of Shiradi Bawa who is reputed to have performed miracles like curing people of their sickness, blessing them with children etc. his devotees has built a huge temple for him. It is now the 4th largest temple in India in terms of revenue.
Most of the Hindu gods were ordinary men and women elevated as gods after their demise like Shiradi Bawa. Sai Bawa is also worshipped as a demi-god but no temples for him at least for now. God Murugan is a real character who was head of a clan. He marrying Valli a Vedda girl is also real. That is why Tamil Hindus claim Muruga is a Tamil God.

Thanga, who elevated the monkey riding a donkey to deity status? Don’t say me because, I may be a donkey – but I don’t allow monkeys to ride me. Politicians perhaps, but certainly not monkeys.

How come one of the Hindu Gods has an elephant head. Can he do something about the man-elephant conflict up North?

CAUTION: Those who believe in any one of the 3 Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam), I beg you not to read any further. If you do, I will not be responsible for the consequences.
    .
In his 2006 Best Selling Book, Richard Dawkins says: The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.
    .
It is extremely arrogant on the part of Dawkins to say that. The fact that he is still alive is the best proof that God is merciful, benevolent and full of Metta. Shaymon, even the suggestion that he is responsible for all the death and mayhem in the Indonesian earthquake/tsunami is preposterous. He had nothing to do with it.
    .
The main suspect turns out to be my grandfather God Gaban Atha.

    1

He(God) has nothing to do with it.” (Edwin Rodrigo). This statement contradicts the definition of God. God is All-Knowing(omniscient) and His knowledge is perfect. He is Everywhere and merciful. Nothing moves without His knowledge. So he should be held responsible for earthquakes, floods, tsunami, volcano etc. etc. So the claim God has nothing to do with it is false! God cannot pick and choose. He cannot be responsible for disasters but responsible for only good things on earth. The Bible, the Quran did not know the earth was round and it was circling the sun!

I define God as the sub-contractor of Gaban Atha.

God has defined him self through angels how can human being design GOD.

Through out the ages, GOD has sent prophets amongst mankind to spread his message of compassion, mercy and obedience to his will.

rbh, you say, God has defined him self through angels. how can human being design GOD.

Nice try, rbh. I discussed the whole thing with Gaban Atha (GA). And he is still laughing uncontrollably. Anyway, I managed to get his opinion in bits and pieces, amid his laughter, and here it is. Does this guy know what the Definition of Definition is? If you define something, you show, describe, or state clearly what it is and what its limits are, or what it is like. So, does that not tell you that it is not possible for anyone to define himself?
          .
(It is Edwin from now on). It is something like trying to screw yourself. You may believe that you are screwing yourself – but take my word, you are not.
          .
If I ask you who created God, are you going to answer: God being omnipotent can create anything including himself. Ha! Ha! You know rbh, it sounds something like booting a computer. The boot strap software does that – rising up by pulling up on its own boot straps. Only, it is stupid. very, very stupid.

The world is anything but serene and still. We are all vulnerable to natural threats, both internal and external. Meteor showers, asteroids are only a few of the factors likely to pose threats to the world from space. As for the seemingly solid earth, the planet’s interior has an inner core of molten elements. It surely would not be an exaggeration to call this part of the earth, which remains invisible to our eyes, “a flaming core”. There also exists an atmosphere surrounding the earth, which is a “shield” against external threats. Yet, no part of the earth is immune against the effects of atmospheric forces like tornadoes, thunderstorms, cloud-bursting hail and rainstorms, tsunamis and hurricanes and the likes.
Natural hazards may strike at any time. They can cause considerable loss of life and property. Generally referred to as “natural” disasters, volcanoes, earthquakes, lightning, flash floods, global wildfires, acid rain, and tidal waves, which come with varying intensities causing disastrous effects. What is common to all these disasters is that in just moments notice, these can reduce a city, with all its inhabitants, to ruin. What is most important, is to accept that no human being has the power to combat or prevent any of these hazards. These cataclysmic phenomenons have been taking its human toll from time immemorial. All the planets in our solar system have displayed these same cycles of turbulence, all in varying degrees, subject to its axis of rotation, speed and gravitational forces. Our earth is no different. This is the way Allah our Creator, designed and intended it to be. We must learn to accept and live with it with patience and forbearing. No one can escape nor run away from it.

In Islam, shirk is the sin of practicing idolatry or polytheism, i.e. the deification or worship of anyone or anything besides the singular God, i.e. Allah. Literally, it means ascribing or the establishment of “partners” placed beside God.
      .

What is the one unforgivable sin in Pohottuwa?
In Pohottuwa, the worst sin is the acceptance of anyone other than Mahinda as the singular leader.
      .
Allah designed and created man. But some of them, like Edwin, are out of spec and declares that he was created by Zeitan (Satan). And who created Satan? Allah of course.

No, Edwin, there is indeed media Mafia in the country. This is connected with various forces incl. astrologists, yantra mantra and politicians.

See, nothing is in the air about Thadjudeen, 23 Prisoner-murders, Lasantha, Ekanaligoda and other numerous Journos went missing during the high days of MR.
Nothing was in the air about Moragaha kandha…
Nothing was bout the reduction oftheprices of medical drugs of 80 lately..
Stents prices have gone donw by 1 lack or little more than that.
        These are real good things.
Mara has set deals with MEDIA mudalalis from the day one. Some of the journos have expressed to Ranjana Ramanayaka that they are still very scared of posing questions to MR et al. Besides, they just allow only their favourite questions for all the voice cuts that they have been adding tothe press everyday.

Here if MEDIA men and women be them printed or electronic or Social Media, will have to see it right.
Unfortuntaley, they seem to be not aware of their power as a NEXT force other than Prez and PM in the coutnry.

How many more days they would handle iit is the million dollar question. Being unbiased to any parties. no educated folk would ever agree with Rajakshe to have nodded his stupid head to Chinese at the time they offered hims high interest loans right ?
Japanese could give low interest loans as some expert in the field added not once several dozens of times.
Current govt is taking loans on that basis. I am not supporting current or previous, but we need to see it fair to all at this critical point.
Today depriation of rupee came into being due to gaps they made having purchased more goods into the country while exports are still not on a rise to be called – improved.

The Archbishop was being frank. He was a thinker. Perhaps the Archbishop reflected: “where is God ? Why is he indifferent? Or, more simply, does he exist at all?”

What ever the climactic condition Jesus has demonstrated the will of god, in earth he cured the blind. to prove that he exist.

    • 1
      0

If the Archbishop would only approach me, I can drive away his doubts.
      .
a- Where is God?: God is there, Gaban Atha says he created him and then sub contracted some of the jobs to him.
      .

b- Why is he indifferent? Well, as a sub contractor, he is only interested in what he is paid and the commissions he has to pay.
      .
c- Does he exist at all? ? Of course silly. That is what I am trying to explain to you. See, (a) above.
      .
Jesus! why do you have to bring in Jesus? Looks like he did not cure some of the blind. anyway, he was a total failure, like Ranil.

There is no god. That is how I feel – whenever i go deep about the existence of a god.
Human life is just a reaction as is the case for other living beings. We are born and we also die as is the case with other living beings. Basta.
Now about those who talk about an indifferent god – they may believe if there exist a god why those natural catastrophes of Tsunami nature are yet possible ? Lankens and other negibouring nations were captured by deadly tsunami waves stroke in 2004. Physicists and oceanologists explained it accordingy as to how such a catastrophy could be formed. There we understood it but 3/4 of world population would still call it the god made it …. like some morroccans fanatists call yet today, enjoying electricity is a blessing of god. Societies dominated by lack of infomration are the victims of the kind of theories.
I think Life is just a reacton onlyHuman life is no uniqe as some god-religions loud in their prayers.
One god intoxicated pastur from US (afro american) started praying ” asking you want all mighty gods to come in to my heart – on and on, he had been repeating”: There he closed his eyes and looked as if he was highly hyptonized sometimes comarable to a VILLAGE THOWIL KARAYA in earlier days ( 70ties and 80ties). I think it all depends on what you believe in. People in general fed with some information based on divine forces become their perception of the life. Like our belief that us the sinhalayas have been hybrided by a LION and former beings. Latter is not even thinkable or tallied with most updated research break throughs.
But as writing this way, I still have some doubt on the reigncarnation-stories being known to us sofar. Lately, a story I happend to watch in the web was – same family reigncarnation.

Sam, you say, There is no god. That is how I feel I know this feeling. Many have it. Only the degree varies.
        .
Only humans seem to have religious feelings. How did humans get these religious feelings? When you want to study such phenomena you have to look for the selective advantage human individuals had by being religious.
        .
It could be that the early primitive human societies were smart enough to ask the question that we all are asking. How did the world and all that you see in it, like the sun, moon, stars, humans, trees, animals and the whole gamut of things come in to being? Things like stone age weapons, clothes etc. bore no mystery, because they were made by themselves. In other words, they got this strong and ‘logical’ idea that if there is something, there has to be a maker. Obviously, the maker of the Earth and heavens has to be a very powerful entity. Things like night and day, eclipses, the seasonal changes in star positions encouraged such thinking.
        .
The clever among them started to exploit this mystery by declaring that they were in contact with the maker. This brought huge fame, power and material gains to those special guys. In general religious people could find good mates and that way the religious gene proliferated.
        .
I don’t have to break my head on such questions. I have Gaban Atha, whom I have seen with my own eyes, and that is it. He is the Creator.

Here is a secret. I will say this only once and don’t tell anyone else. The whole universe is a simulation designed and conducted by Gaban Atha. We are just software generated beings in it.

See those in China – 1600 millions by populace – would not even think of any devine forces, instead, they just work like termites being bound to the law in their societies. Whenever I get to work with the Chinese often question, if they would not care about any religion but about the greediness to accumulate more to them- there they just laught at religions but fond of talking lot more about achievines their materialistic goals.I have got on with many nationaliteis coming from almost all continents of the earth, but the chinese are the most greediest people to grab things to them only. Most of them are not social enough to hang on with other communities. Now a days though involving numbers of projects in African states, most of chinese hate africans on the spot. We had some chinese students in our hostels in mid 90ties, most of them were against african students. They could not see any proper reasoning, but it was racism inherited by them.
Surprisingly, today, the chinese have been invading invading african states. They have been building road and constructions in Ethiopia to Kenya. Most of which are not just for hundred kms but to over 500 km or more. They work for rail lines in those countries. May well, but they the chinese finally focused on the richness of natural resources in the african continent on which the westerners failed to invest lot more – and pleasing chinese future, they are now connecting african states.
Now the Ethiopians are part of the fast growing few nations in Africa. Until 2010, Ethiopians have been the poorest on this earth. Now the econimy of that part of the world is booming thanks to chinese investments. In the same time, Uganada and Nigeria even if they are part of giant chinese development projects, their econimic developments are seen to be caught by setbacks.

          Simple my dear friend.
They all came into being after your mum and dad had some fun and you dropped out of your mother nine months later and opened your eyes and saw the wonderful world.
That world you are now in will last only as you last.
It will not be there after you have gone beyond the dark curtain doorway to the other side from where no one returns to tell tales.

Hail Gaban! Uthungan, you are wrong. Gaban Atha is the creator. He is the omnipotent creator of the universe and everything that is in it, including your God Prabhakaran and me.
            .
Gaban Atha speaks of a Parallel Universe next door and says that it was created by Prabhakaran under his guidance after the SL Army dispatched him from this universe.
            .

Here is the 4th (and the best) argument of Thomas Aquinas for the existence of God.
    .

Humans can be both good and bad, so the maximum goodness
cannot rest in us. Therefore there must be some other maximum
to set the standard for perfection, and we call that
    maximum God.

    .

Here is Dawkins’s somewhat vulgar response:
    .

That’s an argument? You might as well say, people vary in smelliness
but we can make the comparison only by reference to a perfect
maximum of conceivable smelliness. Therefore there must exist a
pre-eminently peerless stinker, and we call him God. Or substitute
any dimension of comparison you like, and derive an equivalently
    fatuous conclusion. (Richard Dawkins).
    .

St. Aquinas must frothing in Heaven. May Dawkins rot in Hell! – Edwin
