Myanmar Style Vigilante Action By Sinhala Ravaya

By Hilmy Ahamed

Hilmy Ahamed

The extremist Buddhist monks continue vigilante action and have now targeted the 33 Rohingya refugees who are under the care of UNCHR and housed in Ratmalana. This morning they have been intimidated and attacked by an extremist group led by Akmeemana Dayarathana Thero of Sinhala Ravaya. The Mount Lavinia Police took the Myanmar refugees in to custody from their home in Ratmalana and brought them to the Mt. Lavinia police station for detention. They were subsequently released when it was proven that they were refugees under the care of UNHRC. When these refugees returned to their home around 2.30 PM, the extremists have once again surrounded their residence and are demanding their deportation.

The Police who were present at the scene despite the pleas of UNHRC behaved “as usual” – indifferent to the trauma of these unfortunate people. Vigilantly action by this group claiming to be the unofficial police of the Buddhists continues with impunity. No Buddhist monk or civilian has been arrested for threatening the peace of a people who are under the protection of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The Sri Lankan Navy arrested these Myanmar refugees when their boat ran in to mechanical trouble and drifted towards the coast of Jaffna. They were remanded and subsequently released by the Jaffna magistrate and brought to the detention center in Mirihana for deportation to Myanmar. Based on an application by UNHCR, they have been provided permission for temporary stay until UNHRC finds a 3rd country for them. During their detention, a police officer raped a 15-year-old refugee girl while taking her back to the Mirihana detention centre from the Kalubowila hospital.

Tens of thousands of Rohingya Muslims have fled Myanmar’s Rakhine state since the military began a security operation in October 16 in response to what it says was an attack by Rohingya armed men on border posts, in which nine police officers were killed.

Last month Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s defacto leader continues to deny reports of security forces carrying out ethnic cleansing of the country’s Rohingya Muslims, despite the United Nations and human rights groups saying a crackdown by the army may amount to crimes against humanity.

Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel peace laureate has turned out to be the butcher of Myanmar and her standing within the peace community is waning over the treatment of the Rohingya. She has not condemned the crackdown and has not spoken out in defence of the persecuted minority. There have been growing calls from all over the world to withdraw her Nobel Prize for peace.

Millions of Rohingya are not recognized as an ethnic minority and targeted as “illegal” immigrants from Bangladesh They have lived in Myanmar for generations amongst the Buddhist-majority.

A UN report in February 2017 claims the Myanmars army’s campaign targeting the Rohingya involved mass killings, gang rapes and the burning down of villages, likely amounting to crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing.

In the latest ethnic cleansing operations, close to a million Rohingyas have crossed over to Bangladesh, seeking refuge.

Social media carries visuals of slaughtering men, women and children, rape and burying while alive and mass murder shows the brutality of the Myamnar armed forces.

Buddhists are humans. Humans have an innate capacity for violence. Anybody who claims that Buddhist are inherently peaceful, are not living in reality.

Yesterday Champa called me a Demala, today i wonder what he has to say!
I think way forward Srilanka is asking for real trouble.

      I watched the video completely.

I became so embarraced. as no times before.

I questioned myself why on earth Monk to fall this much aggressive while there are enough laypeople in this country to go on protest marches if the masses see it is no right.

What is the difference between SKIN HEAD AGGRESSIVE MONK and RACIAL HOOLIGANS ?

      No difference at all.

We point the finger at others, just when they verbally attack the refugees in Europe, but all those activities together are much less harmful than what SRILANKEN sangaya and their sodomites of DAYASHAN nature have been doing today.

All these monks have been making us to that low level… total image srilanken buddhists have ever had, have been changing tremedously.

Tamils are born liars. LTTE won the international community through well organized false propaganda. Even though LTTE was vanquished locally, the exiled LTTE remnants still mislead the international community with their lies and fabricated allegations against our Army.

You are right, if these thugs and rabble rousers are allowed to operate this way, Sri Lanka is going to be another Myanmar. At what point, will the government realize this? Staying silent is only condoning the hate, and attacks against a minority. This should be clamped down immediately. We are heading towards bloodshed, hatred, fear, terrorism, attacks on minorities, death of innocent people, and years of ethnic strife, something we have suffered for decades, and lost far too much.

IF WE DON’T DO SOMETHING RIGHT NOW, IT WIL BE TOO LATE.

These MONKS should be drived away by stoning to them. The kind of monks hidden behind the SANGAYA costumes should be real criminals.

What is wrong with these men ?

Reports say, thsoe asylum seekers are just for a temporary period .

Rajitha revealed these and the kind of Refugees are no for the first time to lanka. Also in 2008, there had been few of them.

if those poor people know how LANKEN BUDDHIST MIND set work – I mean so called BARBARIAN BUDDHIST- they would never have liked to put their feet on this island.

The men in robes are trying to persuade the refugees to convert. Of course to the religion of the men in robes. In fact they are suggesting a shortcut – the refugees may take to the robes and enjoy free amenities etc and above all impunity. The free food is so nutritious, the mangy Rohingyas will have the Mr Universe shoulders in no time.
Plenty of misunderstanding in the air!
PS: The refugees are die-hard Wirathu adherents dressed as Rohingyas.

These monks that attacked those innocient refugees should be called for an investigation.
If govt would stay mum on the like minded incidents, these men in robes woudl become a real headache in the days to come.

Rigorous law and order enforment can protect the real good buddhists from these SKIN HEADS specific to lanken context.

These idiots should have no hearts to see, things that cruel manner, to treating them like ones fallen from pan to the fire.

I am a born buddhist as many others in the country. But I live in Europe.

So I have been thinking to support those poor folks in the days to come. No matter they are non-buddhists but as an act of humanitarian.

We know how much assistance were needed for lankens, at the time lanken refugees reached Europe two decades ago.

For us we are all human beings. We help them accordingly, I have been talking to those who can do the job in the days to come.
May buddhas real teachings be healed THE AGGRESSION of those DOGGY monks and IRC fellow srilankens.

Buddhist teachings promote compassion and certainly does not condone violence. But as it has been pointed out elsewhere, even monks are human first and Buddhist second!

My Christian friends would say that the fact that one kills one fellow beings reflects man’s imperfection of his nature, and not the imperfection of God.

My Muslim friends would say killing is justified in the holy Quran for self-defense.

My Hindu friends would say Karma rules in mysterious ways!

My Jainism friends would say that violence is never justified, except when the cause is justice.

My Buddhist teachings would say that one’s thinking, behavior and speech is a reflection on one’s level of consciousness. And that cultivation and wisdom is needed to transcend the perennial conflict between noumena (i.e. theory, viet: “lý”) and phenomena (i.e. practice, viet: “sự”).

Right now, my level of consciousness says I wish both sides realize the futility of the never ending chain of violence, and that true peace only comes from compassion and understanding!

No, my level of consciousness does not extend to knowing how to make that happen!

But the fact that I’m clueless does not mean there is no hope in the world!

“But as it has been pointed out elsewhere, even monks are human first and Buddhist second!”

Good, if that is the case these humans should be prevented from wearing a symbol of Buddhism, ban representing Buddhism, ………… stop walking in the streets intimidating people, ………….. The best remedy is to keep them in forest monasteries until they become/grow into Buddhists then sent them to villages, towns and cities as Buddhist monks.

Please let the grant duke of Assgiria knows that there is solution for these unruly saffron clad thugs.

This is another good exaple of of the inability , faiture, waning foreign policy of the current government. Its clear that the stake holders know next to nothing about these refugees.Simply, if they are refugees , they have to be kept in a detantion centre or a camp.Instead, they are allowed to live a normal life such as schooling and working here.I am totally against with the way the mob led by monkes behaved. But in the first place ,the government should have taken necessary actions to locate these people in a proper place and send them back through Un .Ironically all those so called ministers knew this after Sinhala Rawaya’s intervention.Furthermore, after seeing most of the muslim leaders having come forward in behalf of the safty of the refugees, its clear that they are behind resettling them in Mount Lavinia.Again these Muslim leaders are showing there extrem racism. That is ,representing voicing only for Muslims. They cry for Rohinga people just becuase of they are muslims and there no any other reason. This extrem racism of these muslim leaders has got (Asad sali, Badudeen etc). is the core factor of common sinhalese hatrance towards them.Every Sri lanken should stop voicing for their own race.It is applicable for not only Muslims but also for Tamils, Sihalese. All those parties which have got race based names should be eliminated (Muslim congress, TNA,Hela Urumaya etc) .Thats how we can build national harmony.

Bitter Truth. I agree with you. As a Muslim I have not seen our fellow Muslims protesting against Saudi Arabia which is bombing Yemen and the Blockade against Qatar led by Saudi Arabia. Further Muslims should show solidarity with African Americans as well for the way they are treated in USA.

Regarding National Harmony. We cannot expect the UNP or The SLFP to bring about harmony or progress in the country. We need a new political party in the lines of late Mr.Lee Kuan Yews PAP. We can name it PAP and follow the same policies they did. How about it?

Berty it is just peeople are so indifferent. If people would teach those Sangayas the way they have to behave. They would reconsider it for sure since those skinhead s of lanken context are highly dependent on the alms being offered to them.

Just listen to watch it closely, the way young monk verbally attack the POLICE that way is beyond all bearing actually. One should argue but not otthe manner police officers have bee n treated as all the last.
Police does their best to take control over these SANGA hooligans. But the social stigma in the country is SANGAYA regardless of their nature, shoudl be held above than anyone.
Gone were the days that people had to behave to so treating any kind of sangayas be the most respectful inthe society, but today, they have to shift the paradigm as it coudl be a match with today s context.
I think our majorities must act accordingly else, we will all be identified as RACISTS.
Actually, the kind of videos should NOT be put to air without studying.
Right at this stage in the country after the war is over, but making and taking every undertakings to reconcile all verious groups; all the politcians and professionals should work together not to send the message across that we are racists.
Just because a bunch of the kind of men not being able to live up their desires being hidden behind ROBES, behave this way, not knowing what they ve been doing.
This spreads bad image to lanken as a whole.

Sri Lanka not required any type of refugees(Specially rohinyas). These people (Specially muslims) who
supporting rohinyas will never support us when these refugees become a problem. How can we trust these rohinyas when the majority of the Sri Lankan born muslims even not able to build the trust with native people.

These rohinyas even not accepted by there origin country Bangladesh.Rather than crying, those muslim nations should need to accept them.It is proven that most of the muslims not able live according to the native culture where they live.First they should change before others changed.

      Shyam,

I wonder you know anything about our country´s history. Muslims are the only ones upto now who have not taken up arms against the country. The Sinhalese have done so and the Tamils have done the same.

The Muslims of Jaffna were kicked out because they were assumed to be supporting the Sri Lankan government. Further it was a Muslim who brought Karuna to Colombo and this Muslims family was targeted by LTTE where several of his family members lost their life.

The question that we will not support you is a fallacy. The question is rather we supported you but now you are planning to do the same that you did to the Tamils.

Muslims are not demanding that Rohingyas should be given asylum. Muslims protested against the treatment of them against the Mayanmar government. Same as Sri Lankans protest against US,UN etc.

These Rohingyas were not even coming here. They ended up by accident. To torment an already traumatized people majority of whom are women and children is a shame.

It is better not to take arms Jmmy because last one who took the arm was ended in hell.
However my point is why these people were not accepted by their origin nation Bangladesh. These people in rohinya came to Myanmar around 1930s and Myanmar governemnt has never accepted them as citizen.Actually it is fine.Which country in the world is accpeting illegal immigrant as their citzens.

I think muslims should need to demand Middle east countries to accept these rohinyas rather than complaining about other nations.Even USA has recently banned immigrants of several Muslim nations becuse they doesn’t know how to behave in the country they live. And there are bunch of examples available for that too.I think very soon other nations will also take precautionary action against these muslim immigrants.

          Shyaman

I have responded to your post. But you are side stepping it and saying something else.Your words ” These people (Specially muslims) who supporting rohinyas will never support us”,”when the majority of the Sri Lankan born muslims even not able to build the trust with native people.”,”First they should change before others changed”.

“last one who took the arm was ended in hell” Yes he did. But at what cost to the country? It was preventable but due to Sinhalese ultranationalist and chauvinist pressure the country had to pay a heavy price.

Now the same group or their descendants are targeting Muslims to create another situation similar to the Tamils.

” These people in rohinya came to Myanmar around 1930s and Myanmar government has never accepted them as citizen”

They had citizenship but the military revoked their citizenship. Check your facts.
There is an article in Wikipedia titled “Islam in Myanmar” and “Rohingya insurgency in Western Myanmar”. Please read.

Where have we complained about other nations. The Muslims in Sri Lanka protested against Myanmar. Then the Sinhalese ultranationalist and chauvinist declared their support for Myanmar as a snub against the Sri Lankan Muslims. And now these same groups have targeted refugees who are just living here till a third country accepts them.

“they doesn’t know how to behave”. Yes we have to learn from these monks and their supporters how we have to behave.

Shyaman, first you study the history of Rakhine state before you make any comments,-. Rakhine was formally known as Arakkan. Rohinghya Muslims (including Hindus) lived here for more than 600 years. Some came during the British colonial period but still those people too were there for more than 100 years.

        • 1
          0

Shyaman, you are proudly saying, “It is better not to take arms Jmmy because last one who took the arm was ended in hell’. Do you know when LTTE was taking areas after areas, Sri Lanka begged for arms from USA and they said to request help from India who in turn said to solve Tamils problems first. It was Pakistan who helped Sri Lanka forces by training them in modern warfare, using of modern weapons in Pakistan and also opened training camps in Sri Lanka to train them. Immediately supplied arms and later China’s arms through them. If not for that kind help where would have your forces ended. Definitely in hell. All the retired and still serving generals and the forces knows that. It is really a surprise that during the present situation not even one of them saying, “stop your racism toward the Muslims who helped us”. Really a shame.

These boat people are a part of human smuggling!!!!

    ——-

The Police should question Hilmy Ahamed. This is what “Ceylon Today” dated September 27, 2017 (today) reported:-

    Quote:
“Speaking to Ceylon Today the Vice President of the Muslim Council of Sri Lanka (MCSL) Hilmy Ahamed confirmed that Akmeemana Dayarathana Thera of Sinhala Ravaya had led the group of monks and other supporters in the protest.

Ahamed whose organization liaises with UNHCR on behalf of Rohingya refugees noted that the UNHCR is investigating the incident and that they had requested the government to investigate the matter. He added that the Police Commission had also been informed and emphasized that this comes under the purview of the UN.

“They have been accepted as refugees by the UNHCR. These refugees were marooned in a boat off the coast of Jaffna. The Navy arrested them and they were remanded in Jaffna. We sent lawyers there to get them bailed out. The government was going to deport them to Myanmar. We appealed to the Foreign Ministry and asked the UNHCR to take them over. —- These refugees did not come from Myanmar directly. They were living in IDP camps in Delhi for two years in very difficult conditions. So they tried to flee to Australia. —- Then their boat ran into trouble. They were brought to the Mirihana Detention Centre and handed over to the UNHCR. The UNHCR has asked Muslim Aid to be the caretaker of them. The UNHCR is providing all that is necessary for them until they get a third country that would take them as refugees. They are here temporarily,” Ahamed said.” Unquote:

This is proof that they are economic refugees, not political refugees.

This is human smuggling. They were brought here from New Delhi in a boat.

These “Rohingya Refugees” were NOT fleeing from Myanmar. They have been in an IDP camp in New Delhi for 2 years. They are economic refugees. Everything was pre-planned otherwise, they just came here, how could their children go to school already? Who admitted them to schools? And it was reported that UNHRC only temporarily sheltered them here but they have already started moving around, sending children to school and started living like permanent residents.

The government should investigate into this matter and all perpetrators who engaged in this racket to smuggle 33 Muslims into Sri Lanka in a boat under the guise of Rohingya refugees, should be arrested and brought before the law.

Hilmy Ahamed is a diabolical liar!!! The rape allegation against our Police mentioned here is fabricated by Hilmy Ahamed. Police should question him.

Tamils were famous for human smuggling. They picked up Tamils not from Sri Lanka but from India, Indonesia and Thailand and took them as far as North America and Europe by boats. Tamil refugees have reportedly paid $10,000 to 50,000 each to smugglers. These “refugee boats” were always full of children and pregnant women with an aim to garner sympathy and compassion.

Now Muslims are also engaged in human smuggling in Sri Lanka. Next the kith and kin of these boat people will also come here. This has to be stopped forthwith. The law should be enforced against smugglers and these boat people should be sent back to New Delhi where they come from, immediately.

    Champa,

In thailand’s capital city bangkok there are over 200 Buddhist sinhalese refugees who have claimed asylum. Since 1983 over 2 million srilankans have been granted asylum/refugee status in western countries.

Two wrongs don’t make a right. Just because these people or Farouk never uttered word about genocide of Shias, and terrorist attacks and rapes of Muslims in Iraq, Syria by fellow ISIS muslims does not mean this issue is the same. Do not conflate these. It is sad that Sri Lanka may ignore refugees who are genuinely fleeing violence. Sri Lankans fled after the pogrom carried out by UNP thugs in 1983. Many people fled during the war; mostly innocent Tamils. Sinhalese fled or did not come back because of the reign of terror-counterterror during Hon Premedasa’s era. I did not want to return though I was not a refugee. I kept prolonging my graduate education out of fear and was advised by family not to return either. Come on comrades, if we are truly a civilized buddhist society where does say we can abuse, threaten and attack people seeking shelter? Investigate. If thi is part of a racket, then stop it. But let UNHCR figure out what to do. Fear of terrorism is the bogeyman my President Trump has used to rile people and spread hatred of all Muslims. DO NOT let that happen.

  • 2
    6

This is why Sri Lanka should not take in the Rohingyas. We have enough problems as it is. These people had landed in Jaffna! If the Tamils so want to help the Rohingyas, get down a few more thousands of Rohingyas and settle them in Jaffna.

And to the Sinhalese who are in other countries and wanting the Rohingyas here – you have left this country. You have no say in what we do here. Keep quiet and enjoy your pathetic lives in your adopted countries.

Everybody should get to their senses and think why these people are fleeing Burma and whether it is wise to settle them in a country where there is ethnic violence, especially against Muslims in the last few years. Send them to a country where it is safe. Sri Lanka is not safe for them and Sri Lanka is not safe from them either. Because when they are not satisfied here, they will start making all sorts of accusations, which had already happened, like this accusation about rape. Then suddenly all kinds of wild stories will be made and we would have another accusation of genocide or whatever it pleases them. Really, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE we do not need this here. We have enough problems as it is.

champa what you say is correct however you know how everyone likes to say things that are politically correct or socially acceptable….the fact is these same people wont let one of these Rohingya people near their front door if it were the case however are safe at internets distance to comment freely and jump on any bandwagon thats passing by…that’s their right i suppose as is anyone else’s who wants to condemn these IDPs and the UNHCRs blatant coverup and our govt’s continuing failure to provide any sense of logic or unity post their win….jaffna is again falling apart – out of sight out of mind.

We forget we are a struggling country ourselves unravelling at the seams, and I bet every person who has commented here sleeps with a full belly and a superb roof over their heads…not worried so much about tmrw!

Someone pointed out that urban dictionary defined thero as slang for a penis. Perhaps members of Sinhala Ravaya should bark at much stronger target than helpless refugees. Otherwise urban dictionary is going to update another definition for the word thero as a section of Buddhist thugs from SL.

A much serious question out of this mess is the great Buddhist culture positively or negatively influenced the last 50 years of pathetic political and military leadership in SL and Miramar?

Sri Lanka is well and truly Donald Duck-ed….pity us.

These overfed thugs in robes should be dealt with in the way our old PM John Kotalawela ordered….. disrobed and shot. One or two of these examples will stop this f-ing nonsense, once and for all.

“Picture is worth a thousand words”. The Buddhist monks have come forward to rescue our nation again from the devious political plans implemented by the present illegitimate leader Ranil (Non Buddhist). His government said that there are no Rohingyas in Sri Lanka. The video defies and make his claim a lie. He is treacherous like his uncle JR. The present illegitimate government are making every attempt to hoodwink Sinhala Buddhists to retain power. The Rohingyas who enterd the country illegally should have been kept in detention center not in a House funded by a Muslim extremists in Sri Lanka.
Please do not blame the Buddhist monks on this issue, The are the protectors of our Buddhist nation. Those who criticize the Buddhist monks must sponsor these Rohingyas to leave Sri Lanka and settle down in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia or in any other Muslim country but not not in our country. Ranil and his illegitimate government must be held responsible for deceits, lies and treachery.

The Police Officer who raped was a 30 year old known as Awas.

He was helped by a hospital cleaner called Nihara who spoke Hindi.
The rape took place at Nihara’s home.

he Mount Lavinia Police took the Myanmar refugees in to custody from their home in Ratmalana and brought them to the Mt. Lavinia police station for detention.

Looks like at least two groups. One in Mirihana and other in Ratmalana/Mt. Lavinia.
    Maybe others in Boosa too

    Saaadu Saaaaaaaadhu Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaadhu!!!

Monks should be at the forefront of every revolution, every injustice to the Sinhalese community and has been defending every conquest of Mother Lanka.

I am no Buddhist but from the little I know of Buddhism even the great emperors of Buddha’s days had armies to safeguard the territories from invasions.

I don’t know if any religion will advise it’s disciples to apply some vaseline and wait for the marauding Muslims when they come to your territory, use your own HR laws to their advantage and change the demographics.
