Pig-Headed Ranil Wickremesinghe’s Downfall!

By Sharmini Serasinghe

Sharmini Serasinghe

Sri Lanka is politically bankrupt!

The two main players in Sri Lanka’s political arena – the UNP and the SLFP – have outlived their lifespan. Further, each time they form new coalitions and their identities and symbols are changed more frequently than their underwear, the average voter is left so utterly confused, they don’t know who the hell they are voting for anymore, because the UNP and the SLFP have vanished into oblivion. In fact, I had to do a Google search to locate the original SLFP symbol.

The JVP is still gasping for breath trying to recover from its notorious bloodthirsty reputation earned in the late 80s for which their egos to date, have prevented them from apologising to the Sinhalese they threatened, targeted and massacred. The TNA has no chance in hell of ever forming a government. Hence like a game of chess and it’s your turn to move, whichever way you look the alternatives are sorry losers. At every single election the voter is faced with a Hobson’s choice. The youth – the future of Sri Lanka – are so fed up they don’t bother to vote at any election anymore.

Eran Wickramaratne, Mangala Samaraweera, Harsha de Silva, and M. A. Sumanthiran, you gentlemen are our ONLY saviours. The time has come for you to break away from the politically bankrupt parties you belong to, and become NOT the 3rd force but the first and MAIN political force in Sri Lanka. If you do, you can be assured that the crème de la crème of patriotic professionals with integrity who have so far refrained from entering the currently vile political arena will not hesitate to join you. We the patriots of Sri Lanka will back you to the hilt. That, we assure you!

You gentlemen politicians are our ONLY hope to take our country out of this dark abyss we are spiraling into and take it forward towards a better future. You owe it to us and the future generations of Sri Lanka. You gentlemen are currently in your 50s and early 60s, hence you have to do it NOW before it’s too late because if you don’t, no one else can or will.

The future of our country is entirely in your hands!

As long as you continue to hang on to the respective parties you belong to at present, the so called ‘seniors’ will never give you your due place. The party leadership will continue to favour their favorites until they drop dead of old age. By which time, you too will be old men.

The time is now, for you to move out of the ‘family owned business’ of political parties we have been plagued by for so long. Never forget, they will always give priority to their descendants, relatives and lackeys. We need to get out of that vicious cycle. We desperately need an alternate choice at the ballot which includes the best of the very best professionals with integrity who will put our country first, like you Eran and Harsha did by sacrificing your lucrative careers for the sake of our country. You gentlemen are true patriots. However none of those capable young people with great potential will ever think of joining forces with you, as long as you are stuck in the now extremely unpopular UNP with its pig-headed leadership.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, to say you are a loser is an understatement. Many of us fought like hell to give you the second chance you got, but you don’t seem to have learnt your lesson, have you? You may be a gentleman but you have proved to be an utter disaster as a leader over and over again. Please remain in the UNP and take it down with you along with your ‘friends’, lackeys and crooks because you have singlehandedly destroyed the UNP with your – stubborn as a mule – attitude and there is nothing left of it.  You cannot afford to point fingers at others when you yourself are harbouring, pampering and favouring blatant crooks who are ONLY interested in filling their pockets and to hell with the country. And what’s more, you are damn well aware of it. That makes you an accomplice to blatant robbery of our country, Mr. Prime Minister.

I including many others who were once diehard supporters of the UNP are fed to the back of our teeth with your political leadership. Come the next election, I rather spoil my vote than vote for you. NEVER again!

This damn nonsense has to end and it has to end NOW before you old fogies clinging on to power like it is your birthright drag our country down to the bottom of the pit. We Sri Lankans who voted for you will NOT take this lying down ANYMORE!

      Shaming Serasinghe,

Thank you for the article. Ranil W pig headed? I hope you did not mean to insult the pig.

Anyway, there is a saying in Wall Street, Bulls make money, Bears make money, and the Pigs get slaughtered.

Sirisena tried to slaughter the pig, but was clumsy, and the pig got away. The pig is now collecting other pigs such as the Ravi pig.

Deeply Apologize for the typo error from my Mobile phone, as it was misspelled and mis-inserted, as shaming instead of SHAMINI.

Ranil has to lose weight, he is showing a dangerous level of belly fat. He should give up his obsession with the UNP leadership and start enjoying life, some of his pictures just before swearing-in ceremony is so sad. I wish him good health.

“He should give up his obsession with the UNP leadership and start enjoying life, some of his pictures just before swearing-in ceremony is so sad. “

Let Ranil and his partner Maitree do the worrying. You better attend to your miracle man Mahinda whose mask has been ripped off in the past 50 days by his own stupidity, greed, guilt, ………….. now been exposed, pride gone, vanity gone, his narcissism exposed, ….
The poor fellow who needs good facial, good corset, deteriorating so fast he may soon need a Zimmer frame, wheel chair, …………. .

      Vannihami,

Ranil should do a DEXTA Scan find his body fat distribution. Too much visceral fat around the belly can lead to farry liver disease and cardiovascular disease and heart attacks. He should also do a coronary calcium score to find the extent of calcium deposits in his arteries. He should also get his balls tested for degradation, as he had appointed Ravi Penthouse as a minister.

RW was known as Mr. Clean throughout until the Bond Scam. Whether he filled his pocket or not with the Bond Scam will Never be known till he is investigated like the rest of the Bond Scam Rogues. Fact is, when news about the Scam started trickling out, he tried to COVER it Up by appointing a committee of his ‘yes men’ who gave a clean report!

One good thing that My3 did was to appoint a Presidential Commission and we all know about the billions that were robbed within weeks of RW becoming PM, thanks to his ‘Royal’ buddies.

What would you call a guy who Covers up Crooks and their Brazen daylight Robbery?Wouldn’t you consider him Worse than the Perpetrators of the Crime itself?

Ranil Wickremesinghe may be many things, but one thing he is NOT is a man who needs to fill his pockets with ill gotten gains, and for that and ONLY that, I take my hat off to him!

I want to join issue with Mallaiyuran. He “Tamils know the difference between Sumanthiran and CV. As a reliable person, CV is many times more favoured by Tamils. We recommended CV for EP, in CT. Can one single person show their supporting comments for our recommendations in CT?”
I don’t know from which part of the country Mallaiyuran hails from and why he is holding a brief for Wigneswaran. He is a clone of Wimal Weerawansa blaming everyone else except himself. His administration of the Northern Province is an unmitigated disaster. He would have faced the axe if not for TNA leader R.Sampanthan. He thought that like inducting Sumanthiran to the ITAK, Wigneswaran’s legal background will help Tamil politics. Instead, he kicked the ladder he used to climb as chief minister and bit the hand that fed him. He has formed a new party at the egging of some politically ambitious men like Kandiah Arunthavapalan who contested the last election and lost by a narrow margin. Wigneswaran simply has no stomach for the hurly-burly of politics. A disciple of the serial rapist and murderer (the 13 victims were orphaned children from Jaffna aged between 12-16. The scandal broke out when two girls who escaped from the Ashram made a complaint to the Puthukkoddai Police. It later transpired that one of the girls was pregnant. A DNA test showed Premananda was the father of the fêtes) some was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences. The Supreme Court confirmed his sentence and admonished Wigneswaran, who gave evidence in defence of Premananda, dubbing him as a “visionary thinker”. The irony is Wigneswaran still remains a devoted disciple of Premananda having built a temple for the convicted rapist at Puiyankulam.
    R. Sampanthan though related to N.R. Rajavarothaiam, former MP, is NOT his son.

      Thanga,
I have already written here that, who you are. You did exactly what I said. Not one word went wrong. You behave like a rebirth of Federal Party Potter. Potter’s job was by pretending supporting the Federal Party and destroying it. It is an amazing, unique technique, by supporting a party and destroying it, you and Potter have mastered. I wondered if Ranil has employed you to destroy TNA. But anyway I stand with my earlier claim that your object was destroying TNA. It happened. Other parties have made intrude into TNA base in the LG election; thanks for your destructive support to TNA.
You are fool if you think that you can make me to rise up and reply to your rhetoric by Sumanthiran bashing, in support of CV. I clearly said one thing that CV stands many level above of Sumanthiran in reliability. Your lower level mentality is that you don’t think anyone other your class Weerawansa. Those who consecutively reading my comments here know that I have been giving Sumanthiran the credits he deserved and achieved. I never failed to criticize his and Sampanthar’s foolishness in going for the Secret Solution. Secret Solution is only a Daydream” Come back to CT when the next presidential election is declared. Sampanthar will be telling in North East to wait for another 100 days for their Ekkia Rajyaya solution. (I am not debating here the merits and demerits of that solution. I wrote in CT more than 20 pages when the steering committee report was released. It took about four – five days. You read all of it and wrote your comments also on that). I am serious here. If you want to have a bet on this I take it. Come back to CT after next presidential is declared. (It is only one more year) Bring and put TNA’s manifesto here. We will talk about that. Sumanthiran said if Secret Solution is not coming, he will quit the politics. Let see on that also.

Other than some worthless chaff like you, neither Sampanthar nor CV had criticized anything of each other. Sampanthar always respected CV. But the whole Tamil world is aware that you was active 24/7/52 in inserting wedge between Sumanthiran and CV and had made CV to form a party. You can brag your proudness of having the TNA split and have made a new party formed. Yet Tamils may give Sampanthar and Sumanthiran some space, but they won’t let you anywhere around 1000 yards near to their home.

The solid facts that nobody can deny: CV was asked by five party leaders to stand for CM. Archbishop negotiated that deal. Sumanthiran developed the election manifesto; it claimed NPC would work for Internal Self Determination. Sampanthar explained it as Federal State. TNA(ITAK) was sued in SC on that issue. Sumanthiran appeared on that case and proved Federal is not separation. So CV wants to go with that Manifesto which Sumanthiran has proved in SC as no separation. But Sumanthiran changed his mind and wants to go for unitary government. Did Sampanthar or Sumanthiran asked for another mandate from Tamils for that?

Kandiah Arunthvapalan of Chavakacheri losing by a very slim margin, and how and who gained by that is is a matter to be looked into by the Election Commissioner and or by the court.

Yes, agree with your wise decision, join hands with Nagananda Kodituwakku.
It’s time Sri Lankans think deeply of the political mess & buying candidates to sit in the parliament over the years must come to end.

We have been listening to such stories over 50 years & thinking of changeovers all the time, it’s not happening either, it’s time ‘ Kick Out Useless SLFP, UNP, Pohottu & any other Mottu’s’. Seems they all join politics aiming at Car Permit, House & Pension.

We need a strict leader to come forward & show us the way to democracy.

          Summa

Please leave Nagananda Kodituwakku alone, don’t push him into the sewer. Let him do what he does best, public interest litigation.

There is very minimum discussion on National Issues and not much interaction among the people throughout the country. Short term problems created by short termist crooks engulf the country and consume its energy, time and resources as a matter of routine.
None is interested in the medium to long term structural issues, deficiencies in nation building process, people’s democratic rights, social justice, equitable and sustainable development, individual freedom, collective empowerment, dignity, safety security, ownership, repeated myth……………… .

Unless the ordinary men, women and children are educated (not just academic) to make informed choices, there is a good chance of this country turning into dictatorship. .

Did/does anyone go around the villages, towns, cities, houses, streets to find out what exactly the ordinary person wants, thinks, does, ………. and his/her aspirations are in order to take the country forward?

How long people are forced to dwell in their past and present history (mostly popular myths/lies) ?

            Native Vedda,

I agree with every word of your comment except for your reference to Nagananda, “Let him do what he does best, public interest litigation”.

              Thanks
For one second I do not underestimate his abilities however I do not believe he could challenge formidable enemies on his own.
              The corrupt political system,
the rent seeking inefficient and indolent state functionaries,
              the powerful religious interests,
the new rich which benefited from 30 odd years of war and corruption,
the armed forces which demands a share of disproportionate power and say in the country’s governance and future which also opposed to any meaningful investigation and closure of war crimes,
those who champion themselves as Sinhala/Buddhist (the noisy minority)
              the aspiring fascist,
              the cronies,
              those lazy academics,
              the all knowing provincial bureaucracy,
the people’s people’s ignorance, superficiality, parochial loyalties,
the electorate has no interest in identifying the common good,
the opponents can still successfully use racism as part of winning formulae,
people often tend to have conflicting, opposing, selfish interests … across the country,

It is too early to prepare the people even if he is likely to contest the next elections.
Then of course one must find out whether he is an acceptable common candidate for India, China, USA, IC, Russia, arms traders, …………..

By the way please note the minorities are increasingly playing a crucial part in the democratic process of this island hence they naturally expect the future president to be well informed of their historical issues, and deal with them amicably.

One more thing, the anti democratic, anti liberal, anti intellectual, anti secular, …. anti anything good, anti anything peaceful, forces are united, powerful and entrenched ………… it will eat Nagananda Kodituwakku alive before or after the elections.

I am not sure how he would educate the voters to make informed choices.

Sinhala_Man thank you so much for telling that pretty Sharmini is the daughter in law of Iranganie Serasinghe. Sharmini’s father in law Winston Serasinghe was a big time boozer but was an excellent actor. Smoking brought his downfall. Irangani (nee Meedeniya) is a very sophisticated, decent Colombo 8 lady who frequents Ranil’s place. In this scenario why Sharmini is attacking Ranil, I wonder. Is this also a part of MY3 coup? Will Sharmini receive a monthely allowance from MY3’s Sanwardhana Lottery like Amara Dambala is receiving? Only Sharmini can answer; will she answer – only Sharmini can tell.

      Dear Joanna Casperz,
      .
Thanks for advancing our knowledge of the actors in all this drama. However, all of this should not matter, and possibly, doesn’t.
      .
After all, Rajiva Wijesinha and Ranil are first cousins and yet, hate each other. Or so it seems.
      .
We really must focus on the issues.

      Joanna Casperz and Sinhala_Man,

Just to put the record straight, Winston Serasinghe was the younger brother of my late father-in-law Brigadier Doctor Clifford Serasinghe (OBE), retired as Director Army Medical Services. He was personally awarded the Officer of the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth 11, during her visit to Sri Lanka, in 1954.

Winston Serasinghe and his wife Irangani had ONLY two sons, the late Ravi Serasinghe and Ranjit Serasinghe. Hence my husband Hiran is NOT one of their sons.

        Sharmini Serasinghe:
Thanks for setting the “relationship record” straight. My (favourite) niece was with us for a few days, and given the fact that she is/was “connected’ to the Serasinghe’s, we had some interesting chats about various people (including you!)
Madam, it is not the Nagananda Kodituwakkus to whom we should be looking to lead us out of this morass. It is people like YOU!
You have the leadership ability, the energy and, obviously, the principles that provide the right mix. Nagananda can play a very useful role but it is obviously a limited one.
As for that stalking horse for the Rajapaksas (a blood relation of theirs), he has a bloody nerve claiming to be an alternative to the MR gang when he refuses to dissociate himself from his connection to that lot. I believe the name is “Pallehawaththa” or something of the kind. Obviously has the (same old) “right connections” to get media attention, which is clearly indicative of where his affiliations lie.

This is a very simplistic conclusion. How easy is it for these 4 or any others to form a political party which can capture power? Democracy is tough. It is true both parties are useless but UNP at least has more decent men not just the 3 mentioned.Just be realistic for now but educate the masses for long term changes as done by Punaradaya

    Dear All

We should have a ‘job scope’ fully developed for each elected officials through out the country. Be it for the President/PM/MP’s/LG’s…etc.

This should be published in all three languages to the public and taught in schools too. The QA/QC aspects of this documents should be revised with changing times/policies and the respective departments need to have this ‘life document’ accessible to the public in their websites with document numbers/revisions number/date.

The oath taking by respective official should be on the ‘job scope’ not just the Constitution.

Once the job scope is fully understood each party will pay attention for their candidate selection/manifesto making based on their capability not any hallucinated ideas. They will seek out to get membership for the party based on what the members can offer for their policy making. Party politics should be regulated such parties explain their policies/manifesto clearly to the masses in their town hall meetings/web sites without personalising and diving the community to hate each other and their respective supporters.

The current SL problem lies here not with the people who are the most wonderful beings in the world from my knowledge. The most beautiful ‘non partisan majority’ of our Nation is being taken for a ride by the invalid/inadequate/mafia local and international having created their language/religious ghettos ever since independence and we need to break out of this cycle.

To clean up this unqualified politics not fit for our Nation from North to South and East to West we need to first and foremost remove language/religious identity political parties from existence then the languages and the religions will thrive because people who cherish them are in a ‘healthier environment’ to celebrate their identity.

Currently we are defying gravity and hope for a miracle. God has said no to this duplicity/stupidity a long time ago.

Please don’t identify me with Sinhala Man! I probably don’t agree with everything he says, &, unlike him, rarely comment in CT.

    And I don’t use a pseudonym.*

As for attacking Gopinath, I havent a clue what this refers to, or why Gopinath, whose name I am seeing here for the first time, should be attacked by anyone. I suppose I shall have to (s)crawl back if I want to find out.

    *CT can confirm this.

Over Sharmini article I note unnecessary comments have been published about certain beautiful ladies of Lanka. These comments should not have been allowed in the first place. No one dared mentioned Lady Shiranthi Rajapakse. A former beauty queen, ism’t she not the most beautiful lady of Lanka even today (Rosy, Malini etc can’t even come close to her).

      Bineka Venurapolonnowita,

The four gentlemen I have mentioned in my article are those I have faith in and have the highest regard for. That does NOT mean, I am politically aligned with them.

I have repeatedly sated on social media that I have absolutely NO intention of joining ANY political party or forming a new one.

My one and ONLY mission is, to join hands with the likes of Nagananda Kodituwakku to stand up on behalf of the faceless and voiceless people of Sri Lanka, and ensure their RIGHTS are not ignored and violated by Politicians ANYMORE!

        Sharmini,

We should eliminate from our terminology hierarchical, elitist terms like the “faceless” and the “voiceless”. There are only faces that are never brought into visibility by the mainstream media, faces of those who have been barred from entry into the public sphere and repressed or erased by the media. But there is no category of people called “faceless”. Again, there is no such thing called the “voiceless.” There is only the repression of speech of those who attempt to speak out, who seek to voice their discontent. Everyone has a voice, but not the forum to speak and to be heard. This is where the power asymmetry comes into play. It’s a philosophical axiomatic that all human beings have/do possess language. But we have created a false hierarchy.
An essential first step towards democratizing the undemocratic language of representative politics.

Using the same line of argument and the parallel made by the author regarding the frequency of political parties making new coalitions and changing their symbols etc to the frequency of changing underwear – the four politicians namely Eran Wickramaratne, Mangala Samaraweera, Harsha de Silva, and M. A. Sumanthiran, chosen by the authour as the ONLY saviours of our country ideally should not change their underwear at all.

I hope people will see the many contradictions and foolish assumptions in Sharmini Serasinghe’s sorry piece of write-up. She is also entrusting the future of our country to these four men as if Srilanka is her own private property and these politicians were some kind of Gods. This is one of the majour problems democracies face, especially in the third world, because people like Sharmini make cultic figures out of ordinary people for just doing a good job. The foundation for authoritarian rule is often made in this manner. Sharmini’s whole write-up sounds more like a psychotic tantrum than an opinion. Good idea for CT would be to have a section called “Tantrums” in addition to “Opinions”. The most immediate and urgent redemption Sri Lanka needs is from people like Sharminie and their meaningless write-ups and rhetorical polemics.

      Punchi Point:
May I suggest a change in pseudonym? Simply replace your existing one to “Pointless” because there is NOTHING AND NO ONE so stupid as AN idiot trying to parade as erudite.

    Thanga.

Rajavarothayam Sampanthan and former M.P. Rajavarothayam who was MP-Trinco 1952- [ ? ] are two different entities. SJ OUR GREAT COLUMNIST is a nephew of the latter.
Perhaps the name Rajavarothayam helped Sampanthan to win the 1977 election!.

As an overseas based Sri Lankan ( 2nd Class ) , my only dream is to see the aspirations of Sharmimi et al becomes reality. Ignore naysayers, Sharmini. We definitely need a 3rd force to run the country the way other exemplary democracies are run . The UNP , SLFP & SLPP alike has run out of steam. Please do not slow down on this 3rd Force ( use Yellow Colour) like some other countries, march forward. If Imran Khan can do it we too can do it. The ‘Arab spring’ started in Tunisia by a poor person. Now it is time to appoint a sensible leader and go forward . God bless my mother lanka !

The readership pattern on CT is such that people sto looking at articles afters some time.
    .
These same concerns have been well written up on this blog:
    .
    https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/ranil-wickremesinghe-won-a-battle-could-still-lose-the-war/
    .
There is little point in filling up the comments sections and repeating.
    .
As many campaigners as possible must be included; let us not be obsessed with the question of who is to lead, and also hope that nobody emerges who has such an obsession.
    .
Somebody was suggesting that we meet at Sangakkara’s “Ministry of Crabs”. The wrong message will be sent out. If we can get Kumar the cricketer without Kumar the tycoon that will be fine.
