Prime Minister, You Protect Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Will My Father Ever Receive Justice: Ahimsa Writes To Ranil

By Ahimsa Wickrematunge

Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe,
Prime Minister of the Republic of Sri Lanka,
Temple Trees,
Colombo 03

Prime Minister,

Yesterday, in a political speech, you referred to my father, and your close friend, Lasantha Wickrematunge, who was murdered on 8th January 2009. Responding to a claim by Gotabaya Rajapaksa that as president, he would create an environment without fear, you asked whether Rajapaksa would apologise for my father’s murder and several other gruesome crimes.

Ahimsa

Let me put your mind at ease. No. Gotabaya Rajapaksa will never apologise for my father’s murder. In television interviews over the last 10 years, he has made no secret of the fact that he was proud of it. He has made up his mind not to apologise. But have you, Prime Minister? Will you apologise for spending the last four and a half years protecting and cavorting with the man you today call a mass murderer?

From the day my father died, you have invoked his name to win votes. My father’s murder was a prop in the 2015 presidential and parliamentary election campaigns that made you Prime Minister. You brought President Sirisena to power and won control of Parliament for the UNP, all by promising justice for my father’s murder.

As soon as you came to power, your priorities changed. When I met you at Temple Trees in February 2015 to appeal for your support in making sure my father’s killers saw justice, you told me that there were “other priorities” and that justice was “not just about Lasantha.”

I have since seen what these priorities are. The police, which came under the direct purview of your Chief of Staff, did not bring Gotabaya Rajapaksa to justice. Proving the MiG Deal is a critical part of proving why my father was killed. But on your watch, a corrupt officer in charge of the FCID botched the MiG Deal investigation and kept Gotabaya’s name out of it.

Because it is election season, you are publicly attacking him as a killer. But even as you do so, your Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayake and other ministers are visiting him and spending hours at his residence, your government is allegedly issuing him irregular identity cards and passports and your senior aide and niece is openly promoting Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s campaign propaganda on social media.

This is the kind of treatment that you and your staff mete out to the people you call murderers. However, whenever the CID needed help with my father’s case, you were nowhere to be seen.

Where were you, Prime Minister, when the army and intelligence services refused to cooperate with the investigation? What did you do when you were told a critical informant against Gotabaya Rajapaksa needed protection? And when my father’s lead murder investigator, Inspector Nishantha Silva, was kicked out of the CID by the President, why did you not lift a finger in protest?

For months now, your Attorney-General has been forcibly shutting down investigations involving Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Tripoli death squad, covering up their involvement and pressing charges against foot soldiers. Gotabaya Rajapaksa was let off the hook in the Ekneligoda case despite two officers confessing that he personally ordered the abduction. Rajapaksa has not even been questioned about these sworn confessions. Even though Upali Tennakoon was attacked using four motorbikes, only two junior soldiers are being charged. Rajapaksa and the Tripoli team got off scot free. Will you do anything meaningful to seek accountability?

No. Instead, your family and senior staff continue to bond with Gotabaya Rajapaksa, while you blithely call him a murderer in public. If you become President or remain Prime Minister, I am certain that the mysteriously absolute impunity that Gotabaya Rajapaksa has enjoyed on your watch will continue unabated.

Now that the man who boasted about my father’s demise is formally a presidential candidate, I pray that his opponent will be an honest and courageous politician who embodies justice, equal protection under the law and mature, responsible governance. I pray that the candidate who opposes Rajapaksa will not be someone who cuts backroom deals and compromises his principles to ensure his own political survival to the detriment of his party and his country.

There is but one last hope for me and the other survivors and victims of white van era brutality. Gotabaya Rajapaksa must be challenged and defeated by a contender who is committed to delivering justice when in government, and not by someone who exploits victims to win elections and thereafter entertains people he calls murderers at his official residence.

Simply put, if this country remains at your mercy and at the mercy of your new friend, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, then there is no hope that your old friend, my father Lasantha Wickrematunge, will ever receive justice.

With the utmost sincerity,

Ahimsa Wickrematunge

What you have in RW is a piece of shit. This arseling has tp be booted out of political life as quickly as possible. A danger to the nation and decency. Slimy gutless spineless and useless prick whose expiry date has long expired. Mentally dead and a sad specimen of the simian race. Dont trust this shithead as he has destroyed sri lanka and do not vote for him or the unp.

Ranil and Sira make Gota look good. In a way it is fitting because the fellows who help cover up and obstruct justice are worse than the murderer himself.

“Sadly Ranil will feel no shame after reading this letter. Because he is arrogant, pigheaded and smug. He has not said a word about how this man obtained his passport without applying to his minister Vajira to revoke his dual citizenship status and also how he managed to obtain a new NIC.”

Ranil’s crime is greater than this ……..he has enabled Gota to forward (or not forward) a false renunciation of American citizenship certificate. No one has sighted Gota’s certificate; not the authority who issued him a Lankan passport.

If he has the real document he can just display it for everyone to see …….. there was no need for his crooked buddy Dilith to manufacture a false document!

Gota will never renounce his American citizenship …… but if need be, forward a false-certificate ……. will hoodwink Lankans in true Rajapakse-fashion ……… once they come to power no one will dare to ask about the renunciation; certainly not Ranil.

Whichever side is in power …….. there is a generational Lankan political-class that play cunning political-games ……. the voters are brain-dead idiots led only by their emotions just shouting and lighting crackers ……

Lankans deserver what they get ……….. couldn’t have happened to a nicer lot!

Fools and their country will be soon parted …….. if it hasn’t parted already ……..

Nimal Fernando- Spot on brother…. fitting comment. To Ahimsa: Well! We too feel sad about what happened to your father who is “a true Patriot” who died bravely at the hands of the Colonial British established Criminals who are posing off as the leaders or the defacto-self imposed managers of the land they branded as “Sri Lanka which is still functioning as a client state of the Western Zionist (Jewish) imperialists. We know that you are confused about whats going on in the leaders and in the system that you and we mistakenly believe as a true DEMOCRACY that is designed to serve the people with equality preached, imposed and applied in all sphere. But, we are all fooled, scammed and betrayed by the Ruling Elite Mafia- The Govigama Elites. What you and I are seeing today is the PEEK PERFORMANCE of this EVIL Lot. By the Murder of your beloved father and poor coverage and the reluctance of the mainstream Media in exposing the criminals involved and the REFUSAL of the current government which came to power on the promise to bring the culprits to the book and to uphold the justice system functional and be equal to all citizenry are just PROVING that it is the GOVIGAMA RULING ELITE MAFIA politics is at play. Its the Alliance of the Partners in Crime who are waging this WAR on the entire population…—— over to part 2——

    To: Ahimsa.

You should be intelligent enough to understand the mindset of Ranil Wickremasignhe.
If you are not then there should intelligent people to advise you about his mindset.
You are wasting your precious time requesting RW something he will not do. He is a heartless, arrogant, one minded, destructive, uppish, hardhearted, selfish, specimen of a human being.
The man is not a person that should have been born, unfortunately for Sri lanka as a country and sri lankans as people. One can go on and on and on about this bugger but by doing so good people will bring themselves down to the stinking level of politicians like him who have only one place to be kicked into and that is the cesspit.
Dear girl, live your life and be proud of your father as he was a brave and courageous man. Don’t cultivate his goodness with the satanic politicians of Sri lanka especially ( satan worshipper ) RW.
Show the world that you are daughter of a intelligent, brave and courageous father who was not scared of tinpot, shit bucket politicians and finally stay away from the eunuch RW.
May God give you courage and wisdom in all you do.

The real reason Ranil can not and will not do anything against Gotabhaya is that he know the real assailants of Lasantha and that they are with him!

    Dear Ahimsa,

I know you how you feel. Let me tell you that it is unlikely that any politician will truly ensure justice for your family. It just won’t happen. Gotabaya Rajapakse might be elected by the gullible public of Sri Lanka and will certainly ensure the roads are clean but his has hands will never be clean of the blood of your father which are on his hands. He will always be known as cold blooded murderer who will have no peace even in hell. He will always be known as a President with a dark past.

As for Ranil Wickremesinghe., don’t expect much from him. I have been disillusioned by his failure to fulfill his promises. He has liberally used your father’s , Thajudeen’s , Ekneligoda’s and many more people’s death to garner votes for him. He too will realize how he has manipulated situations at the expense justice for you and the people of this country. I will continue to support the UNP but not RW. He is just not worth even the space on CT.

Oh Shyamon! Ooh Shyamon! Where are youoo? Are you alive? Just see what’s is your boss and angle Ranil doing? Real rascal and humbug. He and his gang think that they are clever and the people of Sri Lanka are dumb and utter fools. They shout and attack Rajapaksas’ in the day but have good fun and game with them in the night. Their fooling the people is over. The people feel terribly bitter and angry of them for all the games this miserables playing on them while enjoying positions and perks provided to them by the people, and it all are not their grand mothers dowries.
Man, ground reality is terrible, we go all around the country, know the people on the streets say, things are not good at all for Ranil unless he come to some understanding with Sajith, and he Sajith has big and thumbing chance to take it home all the way. Man time is fast running out for your man. Whoever much Ranil packed the top of UNP with his people, it wouldn’t help unless the people are with him but they are fully and solidly behind Sajith. Last time Ranil was running with devil Sirisena, why not this time with angle Sajith, and take home the winning.

    Dear Madam

    Lots of respect.

We will all be trying to do the same for all the killings done in Jaffna by the ‘elected’ from the North already sitting in the parliament today in the name of liberation of Tamils too.

Thank you for guiding us the way for justice we all want for each and every family in our home land ‘called Sri Lanka’ sooner before all the criminals die due to natural causes having successfully conned the world that led to the destruction of our nation and all the patriotic soles like your Father too.

    Thank you

What Ranil lacks is courage, courage to take on politicians/army commanders who have brazenly committed murder, abduction, torture etc. Four and a half years have elapsed, yet those allegedly committed murder, war crimes and crimes against humanity have not been brought to face justice. Ranil has no backbone. He does not deliver what he promises. It is these weaknesses that have made him unpopular even within his own party.

Lasantha’s killing is not the only crime committed during Rajapaksa’s regime. A total of 25 media personnel were killed between 2005 and 2015. Out of that 23 were Tamils.

LTTE cadres who surrendered to the 58th Division of the army on May 18, commanded by Brig. Shavendra Silva, 53rd Division led by Gen. Kamal Gunaratne and task force 8 led by Col. G. V. Ravipriya were summarily executed. One group of surrenders was led by B.Nadesan, carrying white flags, of the LTTE political department together with 40 cadres and 60 civilians. Another group about 110 cadres was led by Col.Ramesh (Kannan) of the Police Department. There are eyewitnesses who saw the surrenders and subsequent transfer by CTB buses for questioning. All though the soldiers pulled the trigger the orders to execute them came from Gotabaya Rajapaksa as Defence Secretary. It is a shame that a war criminal like Gotabaya has been nominated as the presidential candidate by Mahinda Rajapaksa.

    Ahimsa,
JRJ, Chandrika, Rajapakse, Ranil all are belong to one family. They are ruling family. They are not afraid to justice. All of them are not afraid to sponsor murder and safeguard murders. They are also protected by International Terrorists like USA,UK, Russia, China, and India. JRJ marched to Kandy (Daladha) in order to kill Tamils, Mahinda marched from Daladha to kill Muslims. There is no difference between JRJ or Mahinda or Rathna Thero or BBS Gnanarasa Thero. JVP leader Wijeweerea was murdered, not killed in a war. Pirabhaharan was mudered, not killed in war. Over 100,000 Sinhalese were murdered by the state. Similarly over 100,000 Tamils were murdered. Justice will never materialise as long as Sinhalese are slaves of this ruling family with the blessing of Buddhist Monks.

Saw this posted by Azzam Amin on fb and sad to note there was so many Haha reacts, folks saying “what about bringing this up in the last four years” and other strawman arguments like “Didn’t you see the 300 that died”. The same ilk that betrayed King Rajasinghe because they thought he wasn’t “Royalty material” just because he was from South India. Boy you people have a long effing way to go with all your Portugese-surnamed-Ravana-decendents. You are not some special race on the face of this Earth, you people are the special beggars on this Earth. Btw hospitality is #1 in Sri Lanka not because of its scenic beauty but the penchant for the vegetarian lions to give ass for a buck when they see white skin…

You are appealing to the wrong person to receive justice for your late father. It was RW who the morning after went to the House of Horrors ( Temple Trees) and promised MR if you give up I will protect you RW has kept his promise . They are all CROOKS.
Concentrate your efforts in the USA. We are still looking for our loved ones and we cant find them . Gotha knows where he buried them but he wont tell us. He is a THIEF but he has promised to catch the 40 other thieves ( excluding BASIL) and punish them severely and the 22 million of your Countrymen are behind him.

I can understand the Sri Lankan Justice system with servile Judges who recuse to sit on cases where the Rajapaksas are indicted. But what about the American Justice system that has received plaints against Gota being allowed to go scot free, without roping them in for the cases to be heard? What a farce of Justice in both countries?

    • 4
      0

Gamini, in both countries it is political expediency that matters in this case, not justice. Two hours before the SLPP convention started the US ambassador Alaina Teplitz and the Assistant-Secretary for South Asian Affairs Alice Wells, were meeting MR.

The US wants to reduce if not eliminate Chinese influence and will work with any main party to achieve this. They see RW as weak and unpopular despite his Western credentials and they see Sajith as young and untested. In GR they see a popular figure with a track record of achievement. What is more, they have his US citizenship, to force through what they want.

The US forgets about democracy and freedom when it suits them. They have supported many fascist dictators in the past in Central and South America, Cuba, Vietnam and the Philippines. They have even overthrown democratically elected Governments when it suited them in Iran and Grenada.

      • 1
        0

        SB,
Do you seriously believe Americans want to eliminate Chinese influence here? The Americans that hijacked the LTTE from the Indian grip ended the war by presenting the LTTE on a platter for the Rajapaksas to annihilate after getting the LTTE to bury their weapons, abandon their stronghod Kilinochchi and assemble on the beachfront. The Americans helped the Rajapaksas to stop the war to enable the Chinese to commence their road and belt programme here. Besides the Chinese have invested over 900 Trillian dollars in the American Economy. You think the Chinese are fools? After the Americans got rid of Rajiv Gandhi using the LTTE cadre, the Americans have infiltrated the Indian Politics, RAW and everything. Sowing corruption in Indian Politics was the source the Americans have managed to get both India and China that have fought six wars before, to do business together. Otherwise imagine India’s response had we allowed China or any other country in, to do business here, how they would have vehemently objected? Now that both China and India have nicely entrenched here, The Americans too are trying to have their foothold here showing the ISIS Gonibilla, offering to save us.

A very good question is why so many, especially in the UNP thought so well of this utter human failure called Ranil ?

As a people and a society I think we Sri Lankans have a a very faulty way of thinking and forming opinions. I have heard many say Ranil is respectable, intelligent , honest etc etc. He is just a cunning operator exploiting the stupidity of this middle class mindset.

    Ahimsa,
You have already received justice. Not from the PM, not from the police neither from the judiciary. You have received justice from above for your father’s death. . Gota will be heavily guarded by the military he so loves but Gota has no escape from the misery he has caused people. He will always live in fear and with guilt . He will never have peace within his family for the disruption he has caused to families.

Gota will likely be the President. He will always be known as the Pol Pot of Sri Lanka. He will be worshipped and celebrated by the people soon but he will not enjoy any moment of it. He won’t be respected by world leaders and will take the stance as the savior for standing against the West. It’s all political theatrics to fool the people once again.

RW is not worth a discussion or to be mentioned. I wasted a vote in 2015 on him and MS and I will not make the same mistake again.

    • 0
      0

Polly, you say you wasted a vote in 2015; so did I.
      .
It was the only time in eight Presidential Elections that I cast only one vote.
      .
My message to you is don’t abstain or boycott the poll. Remember that you can express three preferences. Spend a few hours studying each of the many candidates who will be contesting. I hope you know that in 2015 there were nineteen candidates. You may have some idea how many votes My3 and MaRa got. Do you realise that the 17 other candidates got only 134,000 votes?
      .
      https://www.newsradio.lk/local/voters-urged-to-mark-2nd-3rd-preferences/
      .
The Election Monitors PAFFEREL have said there that there is a need to educate voters, and they will undertake such a programme. More effective than that will be for us to inform people about it. I do it at least five times a day, usually in Sinhalese. However, I never tell them whom to vote for, except not FIRST PREFERENCE for the two main contenders who are now before us – well we know the name only of one, and we know that the other will be from the UNP.
      .
Most people are sick of this farce, but don’t know what to do. Nor is there a solution so simple that our brief two-minute chat can impart. Urge them, as I urge you, to spend at least half an hour on average to study each candidate. If A.S.P. Liyanage, for instance, is a candidate, I won’t give him 30 seconds. Rule out nobody purely on grounds of ideology – e.g. Marxism, or of race or religion. If Imtiaz Bakeer Markar is a candidate he gets my SECOND Preference at least. Give an honest guy the FIRST Preference. The SECOND could go to a dark horse who is gaining credibility (actually, I’d give such a guy FIRST Preference).

“There are other priorities and that justice was not just about Lasantha.” What a swollen headed and an impolite gesture for a so called Prime Minister to demonstrate such type of arrogance to a grieving daughter. It is with this mind set he is able to overlook scores of murders and other financial crimes and swindling of the previous regime. It is high time the UNP caucus got rid of this stumbling block if they want to see justice in the Party and the grieving party supporters, but that too is a pipe dream as too many of them are deeply entrenched in corrupt practices. we are constrained not to elaborate further about the attitude of the PM vis- a- vis this episode.

This is a very sad and putrid episode in Sri Lankan history. Will this girl ever find justice in the land of injustices happenings! Ranil has been very cunning manipulator, rotten to the core and unfit to be a PM. To get justice under him will be a vert tall order.

Venugopal, do you have a count for those killed in 56, 58, 77 and 83. Surely it was not done by those elected from the north. Were you around when these things happened to the poor, innocent, helpless Tamils. Did you read Emergency 58 by Tassie Vithane. Even in as far back as 58 he was not allowed to publish the book here and had to do it in India. Besides he too had to go out of SL. Have you heard something called “cause and effect”. So Tamil violence was the only option left for them after receiving so much beatings. Did you go to university through standardisation where Tamils were forced to score more marks than Sinhalese. Do you know in 1970 Tamil students who were already selected to engineering faculty were sent back home after srimavo’s mediawise standardisation. If you studied hard at AL you will know that and instead merely loitering about then you won’t know the pain suffered by the Tamil victims and their state of minds. It is difficult to judge from outside Brother. Finally when the Tamil violent uprising started then it was chaos alright. At the peak of this struggle if your father who was elected by the Tamils just crossed over to SLFP he should have anticipated the tragic outcome. If not then he is not worth the salt. So Gopal, now your tears for the past is merely a way of getting rid of the guilt or perhaps some mental trauma (PTSD) and the way forward is through a different path. It is tragedy alright but sadly sometime people have to be sensible instead of being just reckless. If you are reckless then you face the consequences. Mind you at that time things were in total disarray.

    Ahimsa,

Our hearts go out to you. You are doing what every child will do for a parent or loved one who has suffered a grave injustice. You may never get the satisfaction of seeing the evil perpetrators punished but you must never give up seeking justice and keeping your quest. The evil people who had a part in the murder of your father are still alive, and so are those obstructing justice. But you know as well as most of us that our twisted devious politicians will cover each others back (through false loyalty or hope for political favours), and given that we have selective rule of law and a judicial system that will recuse rather than judge, it is increasingly unlikely that the killers and those who protective them will be found. But do not give up: Keep reminding the country and the rest of the world of this evil act. There are many with you. One last thing – remember that there are still too many Sri Lankans who are safer outside than within Sri Lanka – watch your back whenever you are in our sunny island paradise.

    Dear daughter Ahimsa,
    /
I was born a couple of years after your father, and I am also the father of a daughter roughly of your age.It is touching to see the role you are trying to play to achieve justice for your father.
    /
Ahimsa, be aware that this world is an extremely unkind place where evil people and forces singularly and collectively further their selfish aims, exploiting the vulnerable. This is to offer you a friendly warning that your concerns and feelings are likely to be exploited by cynical political, and may I say ‘religious’ forces trying to gain mileage at the expense of your father’s violent death.
    /
Please accept the reality that nothing could bring your father back to life, and he will not be capable of being aware, or concerned about, receiving justice. This is the brutal nature of life.
    /
I only thought of providing this advice as a kind uncle, without any hidden agendas. Hope you will give some thought to these ideas.
    /
    Best of luck.
