Sirisena Brazenly Waltzes With Mahinda: Can Madduma Bandara Cope Or Is He A Third Bot In A Spineless Trinity?

By Kumar David

Prof. Kumar David

Imagine if appointment of a Head of the FBI was scuttled because the Mafia objected! Sarath Fonseka was denied appointment as Law & Order Minister, the President said, because DIGs and senior policemen, who SF alleges are drug-runners and villains, objected. The real reason however is that President Sirisena, now imploring Basil and Mahinda for I don’t know what, will not appoint a Minister who will drag scoundrels of the previous regime before prosecutors and magistrates.

I don’t know him, and don’t know much about the new L&A Minister Madduma Bandara; efforts to find out from political contacts and friends drew little information. What I was able to elicit was that he is a decent bloke who conducts himself well, but he is weak willed. That’s not reassuring. It would be a pity if he turns out to be a third dead body beside an ineffectual PM and distressed President. Post 10 Feb, Sirisena’s panic was like the heart-attack Robinson Crusoe suffered when he saw that footprint on the sand.

The populace, whichever side it voted for on 10 February, wants robust action. The demand is “bring rogues and murders to trial, then convict or acquit”. That is the universal cry from all sides of the political spectrum. Damn GMOA, BASL, GL Peries and the pathetic chorus of liberals who snivel, this way and that with the waxing and the waning of the moon. Legislation setting up the six special courts must be enacted; thereafter action must be quick and decisive. But do Pres and PM have appetite for action? In biology textbooks they call sloppy creatures invertebrates. Or in biblical terms: “A house divided against itself will not stand” (Mathew: 12:25).

The sleep-walking UNP

The purpose of this article is not to dishearten those alarmed by a possible Return of the Rajapaksas (some movie that would make) but rather to kick butts and wake people up. Not one greedy, sinecure-hugging, perks-loving, bribe-taking (or not taking) Cabinet, State or Deputy Minister has quit and got down to grassroots work. I do not conceal my dislike of JR but the bloke took his politics seriously, stopped mucking around, and devoted energy to rebuilding the party at grassroots and middle levels when it fell on hard times, as did Ranasinghe Premadasa when his turn arrived. The now-UNP has no one of that calibre willing pull up his sarong, quit the bribe-taking rat-race and get down to mobilisation after the 10 February debacle.

Though the UNP and its leadership is a washout what adds salt to the wound is the game Sirisena is playing. After his entreaty for one more year in office was thrown out by the courts, and throughout the local government election campaign, his conduct, to say the least, has been screwball. He did all he could to undermine his partner in coalition, Ranil and the UNP. He made no secret of the numerous avenues he explored to remove Ranil from PM-ship. His game plan was open, explicit and palpably driven by instructions from the Paksa brotherhood.

Well what’s cooking now? It’s the same but by other means. I have no inside information and no ‘reliable sources’ – journalists who use this terminology end up purveyors of pure b-s. What I do have is political judgement; I hope sound, using information in the public domain. On this basis I submit that Srisena is working to ensure that the UNP is defeated in 2020. Since he is a dead man walking and since his rump-SLFP is a ghost, he has become a subcontractor. That’s what the evidence adds to? He is dancing with Mahinda and is junior partner in this waltz of death! Poor sod, not all his pirouettes will save him from the stake; Paksas don’t forgive duplicitous hopper-eaters!

If Ranil had had the gumption to stepdown as PM (not UNP leader) on 11 Feb, apologise to the nation, and throw his energy into mobilising and rebuilding for 2020, the UNP would not be mired as it is now. Now it is frozen, petrified, clueless and toothless. Middle-level chaps with grassroots ability – Sajith, Mangala, Ramanayake, Harin – are wedded to posts and perks; Ravi is compromised; Rajitha is dismissed as a loudmouth who contradicts himself daily; Eran, Manlik and Harsha are as remote from the masses as an Eskimo is from the Sahara. It would need a tectonic shift to wake up this UNP and delay, if possible, its sleep-walk into the abyss.

The star-gazing JVP

The JVP will never grow up. Hordes of people, this columnist included, have been plugging the simple, self-evident and obvious truth that it will never, ever, get anywhere except as a part of a broad left, democratic and progressive alliance. The LSSP, CP and Philip once had a chance in the mid-1960s and blew it. In today’s global phase the Communist parties of India, Nepal, South Africa, Eastern Europe and Russia, as well as the European Left (Britain’s Labour is an exception), and Lanka’s JVP are not going to participate in government in a democracy except in an alliance. JVP nitwits – whether leadership, cadre or both is a little unclear – simply don’t get it! The JVP is timeworn, it is 60 years old, and still thinks the world has not moved on since Lenin, Mao and Guevara. Its intellectual fixity and strategic immobility render it comatose.

So, is it time to write-off the JVP as a has-been? But what are the options? The breakaways peratugami (Frontline) and kurutugami (as I call the break-away from the break-away) live in cloud cuckoo land. Like the post-Trot and post-Mao sects, their full membership can be conveniently packed into one medium sized minivan.

The Rajapaksas are obsessed with power but have proved unfit to wield it. If this bandwagon is beyond the pale because it is a threat to democracy and human rights; if the UNP is a toothless (tusk-less?) pachyderm; if the TNA cheated, again, by Sinhalese people and politicians is down for the count, what then? We are probably heading for a hung parliament and separation of president from parliament in 2020-21 and in the ensuing period.

It’s too narrow to extrapolate from the 10 February frolic, but it is the most recent empirical evidence to hand. A few straightforward corrections can be inserted; for example, it is unlikely that a quarter of the UNP vote base will abstain again (they have kicked Ranil in the butt hard enough) and the Sirisena-SLFP will wither away, possibly into Mahinda’s embrace. Otherwise, linear projection from 10 February is easy as there is little sign yahapalan will get its act together. At least such projection could be an informative starting point for thought.

For arguments sake, take Gota as the Rajapaksa-side presidential nominee; assume that the FPP-cum-PR system is retained; assume most UNP boycotters (13% nationally) return to the polling booth; assume a part of the Sirisena-SLFP 10% rump switches to Gota. Then the equation I have canvassed for a long time still remains true. A non-minority-supported Gota cannot pull more than about 42% in an Executive Presidential (EP) election of the current style. A new constitution or an amendment to abolish EP seems a daydream. Very likely we are stuck with EP and it seems Gota is stuck with his 42% ceiling. This is a very possible scenario.

Parliament is more interesting. In an all-FPP scenario the Rajapaksa group will win a majority of seats in Sinhalese areas – that is outside the North, East, Upcountry and cities. In a mixed 60-40 FPP-PR case, a majority is unlikely, but a pro-Rajapaksa national plurality is possible. This is a linear projection from 10 Feb with the corrections mentioned in the previous para. There will be a tussle for government, but a non-Gota President will try to form a non-Rajapaksa administration if he/she can get away with it at all. Whichever way the chips fall, for folks like you and me the need of the hour is obvious, a strong independent third-force in polity and parliament.

And this is where the wheel is spoked though there is little time left. The JVP does not even understand the language. Other elements of a potential third-force such as the Jan 8 Movement, radical NGOs linked to the UNP, the ULF, CP-DEW wing, Bahu, Muslims under siege and fearful Tamils, are not grouped in a credible ‘Big Tent’ – contrast Italy’s Five Star Movement. The objective, of course, is not governmental power but a credible force to contain power abuse. A defensive electoral strategy complemented by aggressive political action is best. A UNP-led alliance or the Rajapaksa bandwagon may lead one or the other branches (executive and legislative) of government in the 2020s. But no matter, the mobilisation of an independent, democratic and radical movement is essential if this country is to survive as a civilised nation.

The barebones of what the third-force’s programme should be are obvious:

  • Aggressive prosecution and imprisonment of corrupt political personalities to satisfy urgent public demands. (That means saying “Damn Sirisena!”)
  • Cost of living concessions, notwithstanding impediments to economic development, and more debt, till public awareness of the trade-off between prudence and growth matures. Greater equity to promote social stability. (This means restraint on Ranil-Mangala-Malik objectives).
  • A programme to educate the Sinhalese on minority rights and a ruthless response to communal violence now orchestrated by clergy and incited by the chauvinism of the Rajapaksas. (That calls for political courage, which UNP, SLFP, Rajapaksa coattail intellectuals and JVP, all lack).

I am disappointed that those who should lead are disoriented. Commentary is all descriptive, and fault finding. The creative task of strategizing and alliance building is subdued – frankly, non-existent. Maybe I am impatient; maybe the sleepy left is still groggy; maybe shell-shocked liberals need time to come to their senses.

    ‘The populace, whichever side it voted for on 10 February, wants robust action. The demand is “bring rogues and murders to trial, then convict or acquit”.’

    Brilliantly logical conclusion! The demand of the populace being such, “…Last month, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), the party loyal to him [Mahinda Rajapaksa], made a stunning comeback with a massive win in local body polls…” ( Indian Express)

      It is not brilliant to get vote from Buddhist Sinhalese using hatred against Tamils & Muslims. Populaism and racism are well connected with Sinhalese politics. Sinhalese voting murderers and corrupters is nothing new in Srilanka. Mahinda massacred over 50,000 Tamils within 3 months. He robbed the nation but he is the master of criminal in terms of humanity and common law. He destroyed the rule of law & justice. I willl challange you if he can get at least 25 percent of minority votes. Did he get in 10 Feb election?

        Are you just trying to be obtuse or displaying the stupidity that comes from monumental sycophancy?. Are you suggesting that a LARGE part of the dissatisfaction expressed in an admittedly different manner at the Municipal elections didn’t stem from the extreme aggravation of a rural population that is suffering while those who caused that suffering are waltzing around the world? Isn’t it time that you and your ilk descended from the ivory towers from which you wave your pandam and begin conversing with the great rural unwashed?

        I agree with you more today.
        He is the person who stood on the way of RW not having done it better.

        He protected them from the day one, but beautifully added to the nation, that he would do anything and everyting to get criminals by their horns.

        Until today, he has not USED his executive powers to stand against CRIMINALS.

    Yahapalanaya was dead on the first day itself.Sirisena came to power mostly by the UNP voters.Knowing that sirisena after becomming president lifted his sarong and showed his rearside to the voters by bringing rougues from the previous regime.He betrayed the voters.
    Having said that Ranil is no angel at all.Ranil should and could have protested .But as usual Ranil lets things happen.(BIG MISTAKE).I am shure Ranil could and should have steered sirisena as sirisena was too new in this situation.
    Then what was the deal done by Ranil on the 9 th of january 2015 with the Rajapaksas.
    Ranil had other plans.splitting the slfp.He thought by splitting the slfp he can win the 2020 presidency.(his plan backfired).
    Within the first 6 months he should have introduced this special courts.(Trail at bar system).Thajudeen.Ekneligoda.Lasantha W.Raviraj. murderers /contractors would have been in prison by now.There would have been no pohottuwa at all.Sirisena is a unreliable man from the first day.He knows he is gone for good in 2020.But he is now working to save him and his family after 2020.Ranil made blunders after blunders.A golden opportunity for Srilanka was denied because of these two.Both are responsible for the chaotic situation.In english they say say it takes two to tango.(Sirisena/wikramasinghe)

    Great analysis, Mr David.

    SL, perhaps, has the dubious honor of being on the top of the list of most corrupt countries, along with Zimbabwe & maybe a few other African nations, thanks to the efforts of the Rajapakse regime. You may have heard of a recent undercover operation by Channel 4 News on how a British based market intelligence gathering company by the name of Cambridge Analytica (where ex Trump adviser, Steve Bannon is the Vice President), who apparently spear headed the political campaign of Trump, was caught on camera, advising the bait, a Sri Lankan negotiating on behalf of a ‘rich SL political family keen on getting into power’, of the dirty tricks & smear campaigns that can be carried out against the opposition which guarantees victory because ‘elections are won on emotions & not facts’. How true

    During the campaign and immediately after the last Presidential election all thought Srisena was in the mould of Mandala or Martin Lauder King or Ghandhi, and would get the Noble Proze too but now he turned out to be an idiotic lunatic shameless man for associating himself with the discarded lot – the murderers and looters. All these behaviours of him is due to his hunger for power. He knew well Ranil and UNP wouldn’ t Support him at the next election but he wants to be the common candidate with the support of MR & cabals. MR might do any thing, at any cost to avoid he & his family being hual into the courts and jails. That’s the reason he is now dancing with Sirisena. At times this, one never knows, might be Sirisena’s undoing too, by heart they patiently waiting to settle score with him for bis betray in the last election, until he plays into their hands.

    JO’s NCM can only half close the horseless stable. Then why now? Because NCM grandly covers up MS-RW government’s grave issues threatening the country. When ICPPED Bill was tabled, riots erupted out of the blue. The timing was well planned by the politicians and the result was Rs. 8.2 billion as compensation to Muslims. Who are the losers? Sinhalese!
    Then there was the UNHRC Session where international community demanded the pound of flesh. Shouldn’t there be a debate to at least endorsing our strong opposition? Then the Active Liability Bill followed by the Judicature Act.
    Supreme Court is fast losing people’s trust. It says the despotic Active Liability Management Bill which gives unlimited powers to FM/PM even above the President, is in accordance with the Constitution! The new Amendment to the Judicature Act is dangerous not only as it allows the government to establish special jungle courts but also the possibility of them being used the same procedure and concept to establish a Hybrid Court.
    There are a good number of issues ahead that pose a real threat to us than fluent bulls.. uttered in the Parliament Look at the list.
    1. Boundary Delimitation.
    2. Draconian Tax Law.
    3. Amendment to the Judicature Act.
    4. Single button National Payment Platform.
    5. Despotic Active Liability Management Bill.
    6. Wahhabism.
    7. Last leg of Geneva Report
    All 225 in the Parliament are in one side now supporting each other. Parliament is not anybody’s personal property. It should discuss issues that are distressing the people. General public is fully aware that this government cannot change until 2020. The game between the slave government and the slave opposition is now “You bat. We field. Drop catches. No jaffas. Only lollipops. You are not out. Three jeers to citizens.”
    We need to bring flashflood to sink the Parliament.

    ALL the MINORITIES banded together with the MINORITY of the MAJORITY will once again outnumber MAJORITY of the MAJORITY. A learned man like Prof. K.D. should realise the danger of perpetuation of this equation. As much as majority of minorities, majority of majority is also important. Majority of majority is going to face a democratic election without any state patronage, so cannot be accused of any wrongful attempt of seizing power. This is democracy, let us take it that way. A legitimate government can come into being only with the consent of majority of minorities plus majority of majority – once again NOT With ALL the minorities plus MINORITY of the majority. All the minorities should remember that majority of majority is the MOST critical component of any ‘reconciliation’ if there is such a thing. If minorities don’t give two hoots to that we don’t either. MINORITIES CAN NEVER ACHIEVE ANYTHING AGAINST THE WILL OF THE MAJORITY OF THE MAJORITY.
    —-
    Ironically our great socialist professor is now banking on the revival of the capitalist party.
    —-
    So long as majority of majority remembers the horrors of 30 year LTTE war Rajapaksas who gave the leadership to totally eliminate that deadly terror cannot be easily discounted.
    —-
    Talking about corruption without once mentioning the Bond issue is certainly below the stature of the professor. How Sarath Fonseka is going to lockup Gotabaya Rajapaksa while not arresting Ranil Wickramasinghe is anybody’s guess. Probably Sirisena doesn’t need anymore trouble on the streets.

Please get your facts right, all that join CT forum or other forums are not refugees. All that would stand against you extremists are also not non-sinhalese only.
            We the ones who got ballige putha away from his brutal politics, would further fight to get him by his horns next. That is our last goal. Our young generations to enjoy a good country with law and order be set above everything.

            Mahinda s building jana pawura will never be successful. THat is for sure.
            I will bet the ballige putha et will be caught by new pact that will surely be passed in the parliament next days. – FOR INTRODUCTION of new courts. That is the timeworthy issues just at this critical juncture of lanken politics.

            Btw, If you would prove that we are tamil refugees I will explode myself together with Rajapakshe next day – our hatred is expanding just not knowing ballige putha would be caught as we thought. How can our sinhala people could stand against own sinhalayas being fallen that deep.

          Simple Simon,
          “Please ask you yourself even you know what yahapalanaya means.”
          Yes we know. Yahapalanaya means:
          Robbing Central Bank in broad day light;
          Playing out EPF money;
          Allowing the biggest crook behind Bond Scam to escape;
          Giving duty free car permits so that MPs can become millioners overnight by selling the permits or the cars;
          Buying bullet proof cars for the PM spending billions of tax payers’ money;
          Giving all kinds of perks to MPs costing millions to MPs;
          Promising a scientific cabinet and creating a jumbo cabinet with all kinds of weird Ministries;
          Appointing politicians rejected by people as Ministers;
          Taking all the corrupt politicians from the Rajapakse regime and giving Ministerial posts;
          Switching Ministerial posts from one crook to another in the name of Cabinet reshuffle;
          Converting Sri Lanka into a money laundering centre.

            What on earth to loud at BANK robbery only while over 4000 billions of state funds have been grabed by the abusive family.

            Meaning 11billions out of 4000 Billions as read somewhere, should be 0.3%

            But you guys are into those media men, that paint the picture for 0,3% but 99.7% is being neglected.

            So you do teach your lovely ones ? Besides this nation is dominated by folks that support culprits and murders than the other way around.

            Are all these not clear to you eagle ?

            What i insist is we want both parties to be punished, not just one party.

            Today, they the punnaku eating people support higher criminals, while lesser criminals being punished . why ?

              “4000 billions of state funds have been grabed by the abusive family.”

              This is another BS like Awamangala’s US$ 18 Billion story. He was clueless about the economy of the country to tell such an absurd thing yet now he is the Finance Minister. What a joke!

          Simon De Silva,

          I don’t think that you know what is meant by the word “Yahapalanaya”. It is not something about keeping your political opponents at bay at all costs. I being a avid observer of world geo-politics know that how richer countries manipulate strategically located poorer countries for their own goals. But the problem is parasites like you how knows nothing yet think that you do.

          Mahinda Rajapaksha was the best leader we had for 1000s of years. You people might keep him coming to the political center stage but mind you that his ideals and policies have blazed a trail so people like him could follow through. No one can stop that from happening. Sri Lanka is no longer the playing field of the Colomobo 7 elites anymore. The power has shifted towards the masses. It is just a matter of time before people will rise up to besiege the metaphorical Bastille.

            Mahinda Rajapakshe is the best leader ?

            My foot ! He is the most abusive among all set of leader that ruled the country. Even Premadasa was iwthin his limits.
            This man Rajapakshe looted the state as nothing could help anymore.
            Current duo never revealed it thinking it would boomerang on them. Now it is.
            I have no idea what kind of knowledge you have on world politics, but the manner MR handled his second term was more like that of Gadafi and other like minded leaders who never thought about the poor folks but his gangs and own family.
            Truths will come to surface in the months and years to come.
            I have no doubt, even if you guys loud it as you can on BOND issue, but the harm Rajapkashes have done to own folks are beyond all ethics and morals.
            The kind of men should be kept in the prisons for the rest of their life.

            My wish to see that happeneing within my rest of years. We will expose more about the high crimes and abuses deliberately commited by MR et al. Nthing will hold us up from that.
            You the like naive men and women are kept in dark by Derana and few other senders that came up during the terms of MAHARAJA. Derana is a result of Kudu and Hiru is no better. We know how Hirus brother was protected by your beloved Rajpakshe rascals but lying all along.
            Whos emoney were abused for Duminda silva fake Hospitalization.
            All was made fake for Rajapakshe greediness. ThIS MAN should be put in jail for the rest of his life basta. even my 10 year old GRAND son can see it but you guys would not.

    Prof. Kum starts with an analogy of Mafia objecting to appointment of head of FBI. Yes! It is so because generally in third world politics, the politicians themselves are a part of a Mafia and an exception could be, as Prof Kum very rightly says “RMB is a decent bloke who conducts himself well”. I am also made to understand that RMB’s appointment was done after tripartite consultations (MY3, MR and RW) although it was rumored that RW’s nomination to appoint SF as the Law & Order king-pin was turned down by MY3. If Prof Kum did his own research, just as much as he did for RMB, he would have found out that SF is called the bull in a china shop. Talking about the UNP, it has lost the common touch and seems not to learn the lesson of mending its ways. I invite Prof Kum to read both the articles published in the CT, one by Shyamon Jayasinghe advocating to retain RW as the leader of the UNP and the other expose of Sudath Chandrasekara, a close aide of RW and form his own conclusions. Many interpret MY3’s action as anti UNP, particularly after the damning exposures in the Bond Commission leading the exit of Ravi K. Don’t forget the role RW played in the “Night Club” brawl involving the good for nothing Siri-Brat. That, according to informed sources, was the cause of the loss of love between them. The fundamental is to breed a set of politicians of whatever ideology who would conform to a set of basic ethics.

    Madduma Bandara is a fake Madduma B, not the courageous little lad that the history has introduced to us. Since he is fake, he can just pretend that he is courageous and taking on the criminals. But he will work to “Go Slow” principles, citing H&S and HR and all sorts of excuses, pretending to working and taking the govt salary supplemented by handouts from Bank Robbers’ payroll. Instead of giving the job to a man who gets things done like SF, they found a guy (Sagala No: 2) who protected MR and family, and now has an added responsibility to safeguard the Bank Robbers headed by the PM. Why do you think MR playing the game, but not signing the no confidence petition? He is better off for another 2 – yr with MR and bandara in charge.

        Bandara s appointment praise MAFIA king et al as nothing better could be the deal. Since the he just shut his both ends and now marching after Sirisena.

        We need merciless leaders to tame the kind of higher criminals of Rajapshe nature. Not just one but almost everyone in that brutal family is bleieved to have commited high crimes.
        That rugby boys s murder had been a result of former first lady. It is recorded how the woman had kept calling police men in that night. But nothing is revealed about that, just executive powers of the current srilanka dont allow it to happen.

    From the beginning Sirisena has been a crook and a person who should not be trusted. He has Appa with Mainda the previous night and promised he will not cross but next morning he stabbed Mahinda on the back and moved. Promised Ranil and Chandrika and Shibita Thero he will bring 35 SLFPers with him it never happened. He protected Rajapakse family. Protected Gotabaya and allowed him to leave the country and escape jail. Through courts he is continuing blocking Gota’s arrest. In the night he again has Apps with Mahinda. He comes 3rd in the election and trying to kick Ranil who came second. He listened to Mahinda and Gota and did not appoint Sarath Fonseka for Law and Order Minister post. Now he is joining with Mahinda and trying to vote Ranil in the no confidence motion. What should we do? We must get him impeached.

    • 2

      Not a crook, but he has no such skills as late Rev Sobitha thero has kept on.

      We cant have your BRAIN SURGERY done from an unskilled person right ? Like wise, we cant get the pledges done from a man of Sirisena nature.
      He just jumped on to the position.
      Even CBK would have done her due against MR led rascals, if she had been appointed.

      No doubt, we have to wait some more time to see, how the duo march forward.

      Today we experience stangations only, excutive presidet has no balls to capture HORU.
      He has been dining with horu. but his lips say blatant lies one behind the other.
      He has the audacity to repeat what he said 6 months ago.
      Horu are not only bank robbers, but also those who took over 4000 billions making the country life long debtors.

      11/4000 X 100 = 0,3%

      Lanken media are after 0.3 % frauds, but neglecting 99.7% of higher grabs, just because they have been made servile in the high days of balligeputha.

      They would eat Rajapakshe kakka on one go, if they would have been asked to do so.
      Yet today, Media HAVE to interview Ballige putha loudly as they can, but NONE of those prostitutes would do so. Sirisa is like mad go after Ranil..
      If Ranil is wrong, President too should be wrong.
      Ballige putha must be 10000000000000000000000000000 times wrong. Right or not ?

    Prof; David.
    Soma my pal on these pages, has formulated an equation based on MAJORITY. MINORITY, MAJORITY OF MAJORITY, MINORITY OF MINORITY etc etc.
    Is this The Theory of Everything[ Stephen Hawking] or Man who knew Infinity[ Ramanujam]. Soma is also concerned about what happens to the MINORITIES living amongst the Majority[ The Theory of Partitions].
    What would you say?

      Plato

      Somass is still a novice, learning the hard way and forgetting them habitually, ………. He has somehow got the idea that if

      Is there a big bang theory of “tyranny of the majority”?

      Here is a quote for somass:
      Majority rule only works if you’re also considering individual rights. Because you can’t have five wolves and one sheep voting on what to have for supper.
      Larry Flynt

      Yes Plato, I am very much concerned over the fate of MINORITY among the MAJORITY (which incidentally happens to be MAJORITY of MINORITY) whenever the Federal setup is established. How on earth they are going to derive any benefit of Federalism is beyond my comprehension. MINORITY among MINORITY is demanding a separate Homeland while MAJORITY among them are conspiring to retain their place among the MAJORITY. My mission is to expose this conspiracy and enlighten all that this MINORITY among the MAJORITY will have to be relocated in the North East in order to establish a separate Homeland for all MINORITIES who speak Tamil. In case of a Federal setup MINORITIES among MINORITY will be the affected most. I am trying by best to educate all that in view demographic distribution of MINORITIES within the Island no Einstein can devise a Federal model that can satisfy at least 90% of MINORITIES. My vision for Sri Lanka is for all MINORITIES to be integrated with the MAJORITY. Separatism and Fundamentalism will only lead all the MINORITIES down the abyss dragging the MAJORITY along.
      Soma

    JRJ introduced Executive Presidential system in order to give mighty powers into the hand of one single person elected by the majority vote of the entire country for a maximum period of twelve years. He realized that this power is necessary to bring about vast changes in economic political social and cultural aspects of the country as multi faceted is hardly ready to bare/accept those changes. However since his two terms were over non of the subsequent presidents or the voters realized it. From the beginning upto date this immense power is blatantly misused by all including the presidents elected as well as their followers. Severl amendments brought into the Constitution (4th, 18th and 19th) has completely deteriorated the real objectives of the Constitution creating a gap and a constitutional conflct leading to an anarchy in the system . In order to rectify and put the country in proper track a vast campaign should be initiated so the general public is properly educated because they are the ultimate decision makers under a majority representative democratic system.

    This shows how fickle and untrustworthy Sirisena is. He rejected the Rajapaksa’s to become President, and now seems to be playing a double game, to stab Ranil. It only looks bad on him. The Rajapaksa’s will work with him until they get back to power, knowing how power hungry they all are, and then try to get rid of him.
    I guess now we know why that BBS thug Gnanasara, was Sirisena’s “guest” in Japan, because the Rajapaksa’s use Gnanasara for their devious plans, to cause turmoil in the country. Sirisena is now part of the scheming too. Troubling times ahead for Sri Lanka.

    Who Funds Sri Lanka? The country is broke. Investment is down. Exports are down while imports are up. The country survives on remittances of Housemaids who send all the money they earn back home. In other words, ours is a Housemaid economy. It is this money that goes to pay for the luxury vehicles that the politicians use and change every few years and the paraphernalia of other luxuries they enjoy such as foreign jaunts.

    After the elections, I was watching the parade of vehicles that was taking the politicos to meet the President and I was shocked. All the latest luxury models were there, taking these idiots, the worst scum of the country as well as the least educated and the most stupid of the population going to lick (I cannot mention what here as CT is sure to censor it) to get favors and continue sucking more blood of the Putujjana.
    Thanks to these idiots Sri Lanka is going to drop behind countries such as Bangladesh and Vietnam soon. Take Vietnam. They fought one of the most brutal wars of aggression by a Western power against a third world country in the last century. They were carpet bombed daily by USAF B52 bombers, their forests defoliated by dropping Agent Orange so that the Viet Cong would be denied the forest cover.

    But the aggressor US and the victim Vietnam have become good friends. A US nuclear powered aircraft carrier made a goodwill visit to Vietnam recently. If it happened in SL, Wimal Weerawansa would have gone in to a fast in front of the US embassy. But in true Buddhist style, Vietnam has decided to forget and forgive. They have put the good of its people before revenge.

      Edwin R,
      You put it in a nutshell. Most politicians desire to accumulate wealth for their future generations, in the guise of ‘democracy’.
      Majority of them have not even O Levels.
      Yet, the idiotic citizens vote for them.
      The economy is going from bad to worse.
      All future generations are indebted to the hilt.
      We will end up like Zimbabwe in a decade.

        The Hunting Pack: It is so funny that the German Shepherds are up and about barking at Rajapaksa (Ballige Putha – as some describe him) and his clan. Can you see how even Prof AKD is distancing himself from Ranil? Prof AKD may have many faults, like not knowing what a Reactive ‘something’ is, but he is an honest guy. I am sure that the distancing was caused by the CB scam. This happened to many people including me.

        Rajapaksa may be a Ballige Putha and may have stolen billions. But he has class. Whatever he does, good or bad, has always been a class act. No one has caught him doing those bad things. Men talk and the German Shepherds bark. But then they have done that for many years on a daily basis. But no one – but no one – dog or man, has been able to take the first bite.

        On the other hand, Ranil has spread shit all over as if he had just thrown it up at a ceiling fan running at full speed. There is a Sinhala saying, ‘Modaya asuchi hath polay gaggannawa’. The fool, trying to clean up shit gets it rubbed on 7 places. In this case it may be much more than 7.

        Ranil and his German Shepherds are a lost cause. The water may be heating up and it is not crabs that are in the water but canines.

    Yes, I went to Geneva using other people’s money with a team of Mara stooges (after all the Geneva problem was a Mara’s creation).

    I admit Global Tamil Forum met with the US Ambassador, we did not even try to get an appointment. We did not care about the outcome, our only ambition was to get some photos of the Geneva fringe meetings in the Sri Lankan newspapers so that we will get plenty publicity in Sri Lanka. We know Sri Lankan Sinhalayas are modayos. Then, every year twice we can travel to Geneva through Sinhala expatriates money.

    We had a nice time in Geneva including lots of booze and all other things …………….
