The Looming Rajapaksa Vs Premadasa Contest

By Rajan Philips

Rajan Philips

It would be a mistake to dismiss Sri Lanka’s problems as pinpricks. At the same time, it might be useful to see them for what they are in comparison to everything that is going on elsewhere. From Brexit to Kashmir and slowdown of the Indian economy, Trump to Hong Kong, and Putin to Duterte, countries far and near are grappling with political tornedos and economic uncertainties. Seen in a global perspective, we are dealing with tea-cup storms in Sri Lanka. We have to be mindful, however, that little storms can blow up on our faces. But it would be a mistake to prepare for a tsunami when we have to only deal with thunderstorms. Overkills and overcorrections will not only be costly, but they can also create additional and unanticipated problems. National security could become a binding tsunami generating overkill consequences in a future Rajapaksa presidency. A State predicated on security usually entails the security of the powerful and the insecurity of their opponents. The second term of the Rajapaksa first coming was a perfect but painful illustration of this. What would it be like if there is a second coming?

The 2015 presidential election was a referendum on the corruption and abuse of power of the Rajapaksas. Nearly five years after their defeat, the Rajapaksas are framing the 2019 election as a referendum on national security, specifically exploiting the spectacular failure of the Sirisena-Wickremesinghe dysfunctional dyarchy to prevent the Easter Sunday bombings. The real reason for privileging national security is because ‘national security’ is the best and the only rationale for the candidacy of Gotabaya Rajapaksa. After deciding on the middle brother as their next candidate, the Rajapaksa family and political party have had to find a national problem that is commensurate with Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s abilities and experience as a former military man. National security foots the bill and the Easter Sunday bombings are a huge bonus. So, they have found a problem to suit the candidate, rather than finding a candidate who can measure up to the whole host of Sri Lanka’s national problems, and not just national security.

On the other side of the political divide, the former common opposition forces are now a divided bunch and are fighting among themselves. Maithripala Sirisena is a politically dead man alive. The UNP is in a horrible pickle. It doesn’t want its irremovable leader to be its presidential candidate, and its favoured candidate is not the favourite of the leader’s Working Committee and his alliance partners. What is even more horrible is what Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has done to irredeemably tarnish the 20th Amendment. What divine political judgement would have prompted Mr. Wickremesinghe to permit someone like Ravi Karunanayake to publicly undertake the eleventh-hour championing of the 20th Amendment?

If President Sirisena thought that this could be the last straw for him to grasp at, his predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa was too quick to shred it off. Even the JVP found it laughable that the Prime Minister and his bond pal would canvas support for the 20th Amendment only when their political jobs are on the line, and after publicly ignoring it for so long. The proven pair brought laughter not only on themselves, but also on Colombo’s diplomats who ill-advisedly attended a publicized political dinner with the two men instead of diplomatically declining the invitation. What we are seeing is the political isolation of Ranil Wickremesinghe and that he can count only on the loyalties of foreign diplomats and the disgraced former Finance Minister.

Constituencies and campaigns

Mr. Wickremesinghe’s woes aside, his undercutter and apparently the most likely UNP/DNF candidate Sajith Premadasa will find the presidential campaign much harder than his candidature campaign. For starters, Mr. Premadasa will become an easy target for all the criticisms against the yahapalanaya failures. And he will not be able to secure any compensatory benefit by mobilizing the yahapalanaya forces behind him, because he is not a believer in them, in general, and he has not espoused any one of them in particular. He is even opposed to the 20th Amendment, let alone abolishing the executive presidency. Mr. Premadasa might also end up spearheading a divided party into the campaign and runs the real of risk of having Wickremesinghe loyalists openly or secretively sabotage his campaign.

Mr. Premadasa is also not going to take the totality of the JVP and the minority votes that benefited the common opposition candidate in 2015. With Anura Kumara Dissanayake in the ring, Premadasa will automatically lose the JVP share of the Sirisena vote. If the known antipathy between Premadasa and the JVP is also infecting their supporters, the more JVPers among those voting for Mr. Dissanayake may not cast their second-best votes to Sajith Premadasa. In 2015, the common opposition candidate got  almost the entirety of the Tamil and Muslim votes. That sweep is not going to be repeated this time. Given the present government’s patchy record on its promises to the minority political parties, the Rajapaksas will make a pitch to garner as many Tamil and Muslim votes as they can. In a more likely outcome, significant numbers among them may opt not to vote at all and that would hurt more than help Sajith Premadasa.

What Mr. Premadasa has going in his favour as opposed to Gotabaya Rajapaksa is that there is no “anyone but Premadasa” mindset or campaign against him. There is clearly such a constituency – avowing “anyone but Gotabaya” targeting Gotabaya Rajapaksa. How or whether that constituency will transform into a campaign remains to be seen. It was this dynamic that Ranil Wickremesinghe was trying to use to get internal support within the UNP for his candidacy. It did not quite work that way for Mr. Wickremesinghe. Premadasa has been the beneficiary of an “anyone but Ranil” movement within the UNP. Now he will have to get the help of Ranil Wickremesinghe to get going with an “anyone but Gotabaya” campaign outside the UNP for the presidential election.

With the JVP washing its hands off the 20th Amendment, the next presidential election will be the first one in 25 years and after five elections in which abolishment of the executive presidency will be neither an issue nor a promise. That does not mean the presidential system has sunk stable roots and the tree JR Jayewardene planted is bearing fruitful results. Far from it. What is clear this time is that the system has run dry of generating lively contests in terms of ideas, individuals and political platforms, and has produced accidental candidates with neither deep roots nor bold vistas. Gotabaya Rajapaksa is a parachuted candidate and his candidacy is viable only because of the presidential system.

Sajith Premadasa is understandably not enamoured becoming a Prime Minister to anybody after what President Jayewardene and his cabinet did to his father, the late R. Premadasa, who became the first (“name board”) Prime Minister under the presidential system. But so far Sajith Premadasa has not articulated any central theme, or themes, of his campaign and his bid for candidacy is solely based on the claim by him and others that he (Sajith) is more popular than Ranil Wickremesinghe. Popularity may still be a factor in Premadasa’s contest with Gotabaya Rajapaksa, but it is still early to say what factors will go into play and how they will shake out in garnering votes. As central themes go, the Rajapaksa campaign will all be about national security, although what might have worked against Ranil Wickremesinghe or Maithripala Sirisena on security may not work against Premadasa.

All in all, a Rajapaksa vs. Premadasa contest will likely turn out to be a vigorous contest to win a majority among the Sinhalese voters, as neither candidate can bank on a solid support among the minorities. It will be intriguing to see how Catholic Action, in its new Sri Lankan incarnation, will play in the election. Now unheard of, Catholic Action began as a movement of the laity (non-clerics) in the context of the secularization of the State in 19th century Europe. For totally different reasons, the term gained notoriety in Sri Lanka in the 1960s when the official Church was seen as a bulwark of the UNP against the SLFP. Felix Dias Bandaranaike, the  Anglican who was a thirty-year old minister in the first Sirima Bandaranaike government, vowed to bring the “Catholics to their knees.” I do not have to describe in detail how the tables have turned nearly fifty years later. It is common gossip that what I am calling (tongue-in-cheek) Catholic Action in Colombo is well disposed to the Rajapaksas and to Ravi Karunanayake of the UNP. Mr. Premadasa may have to work on his father’s old Josephian ties to counter both the Rajapaksas and Ravi Karunanayake.

It is remarkable that the two leading contenders have little or nothing to say about the regional and global context in which they are competing for presidential power. Neither of them has anything remarkable in their background to suggest that one of them is reasonably well equipped to steer Sri Lanka on even keel through global currents for the next five years. The global tumults vary from country to country, but there is no one pre-occupied with national security. In any event, national security does not mean that military officials should become commanders in chief. That would be like making security guards school principals because there have been recurrent break-ins and burglaries in schools.

we know what happened to this nation during the second term of MR.. so, what do you want more. .. His cohort is dreaming to rob public money once again. While Sajith is building houses from his salary? to be honest, RP did not steal public money as we see today..

      Lankan,
Now that Alpitiya PS election also come into the mix, the dynamics of election fever going to change dramatically. This may create a small window of opportunity for MY 3 to bargain with SLPP b’cos he holds the decision to hold both elections on the same day or separately. This important for SLPP; for, they certainly believe that early PS election would work in their favor.

Despite the hype on the presidential election, in practical terms, it won’t have much effect on anything other than the results of parliamentary election. If UNP could mange to form a Gvt with the minority support – the most likely scenario if Gora win – 19 A will give enough power to the PM to bypass president’s will on any issue. On the other hand, if Sajith win, it will help UNP to win 113 or very close to the critical number so that it can form a stronger Gvt.

What STUPID Rajapakshes have been doing is just eye washes. Not many would go after them, but for some reasons, they collect low lives for their meetings. Many stand against them, day by day remembering the way they treated own folk until not long ago. Those who went peaceful march protests, asking the cheapest food item of the man, which is pure water, were shot with few got dead and others injured. And over 23 prisoners were gunned down just to cover up their lovely ones not being caught by the investigations. Then again, the collosal sums they looted from the state, were not overlooked, even today, they use the stolen funds for their wasteful parades and meetings.
All in all, to me, more clear is that BALLIGEPUTHA Rajapakshes would learn it this time, being end up in a jail. My wish is to put them all in jails by the end of the election.
Mahinda Rajapakshe deserves long term jail sessions for all the high harms he has done prior to 2015 and since then.
They should NO means be given pardon.
Rascals and murderers should not be given any kind of general pardon.

Both SAJITH P & GOTA R are uniquely UNQUALIFIED TO lead SL. Both should be discarded to the DUSTBIN. Whether the DUMB Sri Lankan electorate would step up to the plate remains to be seen. GOTA R, in particular, should be dumped into a Garbage Bin inside Welikada Prison. For despicable MASSACRES, countless killings, kidnappings, disappearances, brutal beatings & theft of PUBLIC FUNDS.
      My two cents!

Are you planning to send in the STF?
How on earth an American was allowed to conduct a brutal war, make profit out defense spending, sign agreement with America on behalf of Sri Lankan people, … and it seems he is going to contest the elections, ……………… This can only happen in this little island.

Did he really win the war single handedly?

UNP depends on EN BLOCK minority voting – mere majority won’t suffice. The colorary is racial/religious disharmony is a pre requisite. UNP will do everything possible to create fear among the minorities like they did last time. However what the minority leaders must realise is that other than ministerial positions and associated perks they won’t get anything after the Elections. Election promises for the minority vote base are just that-election promises. The majority of the majority is not obliged to honour them.

While everyone is distracted with US citizen Gota and US puppet Bondscam Ranil’s Election circus, the US is pushing its MCC pact to colonize Sri Lanka very hard.

The left and civil society must come out on the streets to block the US project to capture Lanka’s future and lands by setting up an MCA office in lieu of the failed Super Ministery plan which was prevented by Provincial Councils which have been since debilitated so that the US military base plan for which the Easter Sunday Carnae was staged can go through.
Time for civil society to wake up! Sri Lanka does not need a paltry 480 million from the biggest rogue state in the world that has wrecked this island with Economic Terrorism and the Easter weaponization of Ethno-religious identity politics, while using some corrupt Muslim politicians cats paws for land grabs and fake IS terrorism..

Clown Sira and the AGs dept. must wake up NOW and prevent MCC pact to turn Lanka into a US military base hub in the Indian Ocean and land grab, being signed

Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) and Acquisition and Cross Service Agreement (ACSA) were signed in 2007.

At the time of signing agreements please note Mahinda was the president and his American brother Gota was his Defense secretary. It didn’t bother you at all. Why complain now?

What about the “Economy Stupid…..Never mind.

Cinnamon Wild in Yala National Park can’t get 30% occupancy even 6 months after Wahabi Suicide Bombs.
Tourism Economy which the Rajapakasa Regime made the crown Jewel of the post Nanthikadal Mahavamsa Economy is now in tatters..

Small Operators who have big leases on their Toyota Vans can’t make their Lease Payments to Vallible Finance and other Loan Companies.

If the divine intervention made Dr Ranil to join his ex Finance Minister , Tirupathy Gods must have done it as a favor for the God of the Bible Belt, where the poor innocent Catholics got blasted by the Wahabi Suicide Bombs .-
And Dr Ranil and his Ministers didn’t do nothing about it before or even after.

How can the JVP Prince tell his followers to tick Keselwatta Kid as their second preference , when Dr Ranil wouldn’t let even his UNP followers to tick the UNP Presidential aspirant from Keselwatta.

Besides, will the Elite and the Anglicans who are now being lead by Galleon Ravi allow it.

I got a gut feeling that Keselwatta Kid and Nandasena will not need to go a Tie Breaker , although Keselwatta Kid must be thinking of one, with his Tennis Lessons with the Mom when Daddy was ruling the UNP Roost.
    -.
That is a bit of a relief for our small scale Tour Operators and their Drivers and their extended families as well..

        Dear Native,

Nandasena’s 1st Prez Promise is to double up the Education Budget .

        This is fantastic.
Even our 70% Dalit Kids can hopefully learn English and hang out with those English speaking Sinhala babes from the International Schools..

KK who is the self declared UNP Candidate who does not have even OLs , according to the the UNP Executive Committee Spokesman, will be hard pressed to match this promise..

But I am as keen as mustard to find out what the counter offer from the other Official Candidate the JVP Prince Kumara , whom his Spokesperson Herath reckons Nandasena is the Weak as Piss Candidate Prince Kumara has to face..

        What do you reckon mate,?.
Have your buddies Dr Ranil and Galleon Ravi done a deal again with the JVP?..

Just forget Ranil’s deal with JVP for a second.
Consider this, Rajapaksas are in a state of doledrum, nothing much is moving since Gota the national hangman claimed his right to contest the presidential elections.
Had your Man in LTTE, VP survived, Mahinda could have made a deal with him and VP who as service to democracy would have promised to rig the elections. As in 2005 Tamils he would have restraint voters from voting in the next elections.

Although the hangman tries to continue his ill thought out security scare and panic mongering the voters are not convinced and seems to stay put.

As is the case last time people don’t seem to like the presidential candidate Gota Rajapaksa.

Whom does Dayan support this time from three aspiring candidates Gota, Sajith, and Sirisena?

In the meantime the armed forces and police will continue to discover loads of arms and ammunitions from many digs throughout the island until the elections are over.

A good article. Gothabaya will indeed be elected because of the Easter Sunday attacks. I predicted something similar in 2016, right here on CT, in the article called “There Are Many Problems With Sri Lankan Politics: Colombo-Centric Politics Is One Of Them” by Natale Dankotuwage. This is what I wrote on 12th August 2016: “Gothabaya taught the LTTE terrorists a good lesson. Now, if your Saudi imams try to export jihad to Sri Lanka, Gothabaya or Gothabaya Jr. will come for round two.” So, here we are, Gothabaya is coming for round two, should the circumstances warrant. We cannot blame Sinhalese nationalists or controversial monks for Gothabaya’s election, as they had nothing to do with the cultivation of terrorism and radicalism in the East. Anyway, I don’t think Gota’s focus will be on national security. Most Muslims in S. Lanka do not want a violent jihad, as they can see how poorly the Tamils fared. Gota will probably focus on economic development. Like MR, he will get more loans from China and continue with building infrastructure. The author is correct that Gota is not “conventional” presidential material. Unlike his brother, he will have to learn a lot about diplomacy and politics.

      Lester,
If you think that GoRa will follow MaRa’s “white elephant” economics and borrow more from China to invest in another round of “vanity projects” naming “GoRa this” & “GoRa that”, how would you expect him to fill the humongous budget gap? If this is the economics you believe in, no wonder why you insist that economics is not science!

First of all, it is very bad economics & therefore nobody in a right mind will not advice to follow such a destructive path. Second of all, under 19 A, a president has no power to dictate decisions on anything; decision must be approved by the PM & the cabinet!

        D.P.

Correct, economics is not a science. One of the fundamental assumptions is that humans are rationals. All economic models are based on “rational choice.” There is no such thing as “rationality” in science. According to the 2nd law of thermodynamics, without external forces, systems tend toward disorder, not order, so how can humans be fundamentally rational? Even Keynes acknowledged market cycles are driven by cycles of fear and greed. According to the pseudoscience of psychology, this kind of behavior is called “manic” or “bipolar.” People who exhibit this kind of behavior are said to suffer from “depression” and given pills or placed in an asylum.
        —–
There is more to economic development than deficit spending. Regardless, the government will have to borrow money to invest in the economy.

        • 2
          1

          Lester,
Who said that humans are rational? How do you say organismic evolution is a science subject when even humans are not rational. Evolution is not only about mutations in genes; it is influenced by a whole lots of other factors of which behavior (Darwin wrote a whole book titled “Descent of Man” on this subject) plays an important role (geographic isolation caused by various geological reasons known as allopatric evolution and by way of genetic drift; natural hazards; development constraints caused by epigenetic factors; etc). Genetics provide only the raw materials; but, not all mutations translate into viable species b’cos myriads of external factors affect their survival. That is why 99 % of all species ever lived on this planet have gone extinct!

Do you know that the main factor for human evolution from chimps was living as social groups, a trait of chimps? After abandoning the arboreal life-style, it was living in groups that helped child care needed for long helpless growth period as a child. Without such a long growth period, there was no chance for the brain to grow (a process known as Paedomorphosis by retardation). This is an excellent example for choice of living can affect evolution. Now, human domination is changing the pattern of evolution completely – geologically speaking, very rapidly. Human “behavior” affects nature in the same way it affect production & sale of goods!

          • 0
            0

            D.P.

“Who said that humans are rational?”

This is a basic assumption in economics. Without this assumption, economic theory as we know it falls apart. Look at capitalism. The idea is that humans cooperate because in the end they gain more. A factory is an example of cooperation. The labor is organized into various structures. The worker knows his wage and expected number of hours. In the 20th century, you have so-called game theory. The optimal choice is the most rational one.

“Evolution is not only about mutations in genes”

Without genetics, evolution (as we know it) would not exist. The behavior of a species, for example mating rituals, is merely a secondary effect. Can you see the difference between economics and evolution now? The basis of economics is rationality whereas the basis of evolution is genetics.

“Do you know that the main factor for human evolution from chimps was living as social groups…”

You need to go back a little. The basis for all organic life is the carbon atom. Because carbon is such a versatile atom, it makes different biochemical reactions possible as the Earth evolves (changing temperatures, new species, etc.) Carbon was here long before humans. There is nothing special about humans. Just like other organic matter, humans are utilizing carbon-based reactions. They can only do this for a finite amount of time, at some point they will be fed back into the “loop.” Furthermore, what we call “life” on Earth depends on the Sun. Once the Sun implodes from within, Earth will be too cold to support “humans” as we know it and another species will evolve. From this discussion, can you see that “biology” is nothing more than a series of chemical reactions? These reactions can be simulated in a lab or on a computer. They are reproducible. This is why “biology” is a science. There is no way to confirm whether humans are rational or not.

If Catholic action is well disposed towards the Rajapaksas and to Ravi Karunanayake then those Catholics are not aware that they are dealing with the devil’s advocates.
Ninety percent of Sri lanka’s Catholics are what you call Cafeteria Catholics who pick and choose from the Holy Bible what is pleasing to them and they will do so up to the end of time.
The Holy Catholic Church has much potential at its disposal to bring about peace in Sri lanka but alas those who rule under the banner of St Peter are more oriented to take sides than preach the word of God which is power in its self.
God have mercy on them all.

I don’t know from where this writer got information saying that Ravi has the catholic vote ?? I’m a catholic n so is my family n we are definitely not with Ravi !! He is a disgrace to the Catholic Church, one of the 10 commandments is thow shall not steal n that’s exactly what he did. At least Sajith can hold his head high n say he did not rob the country. So please Mr writer when you are writing articles don’t speak for everyone I know a lot of Catholics who are disgusted with Ravi. Yes we all voted for him in 2014 but never ever again. I know his aunt very well n you know what she said about him after the bond scam – He ruined our family name n has brought so much shame” if that’s what his own family thinks what do you expect from the ordinary folks. I will be surprised if he retains his seat at next years eldctions !!

If Sajith becomes the UNP candidate, Sri Lanka will have to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea. On one hand Gota’s tyrannical character and his white van culture, and on the other hand Sajith’s immaturity, duplicity, and unreliability. Gota is a tested character for cruelty, people know what to expect. Sajith is untested, but has the same (if not more) genetic make up of cruelty. His father made so many people including students, journalists disappear. A photographer was disappeared for taking a photo of his mother. Sister has a reputation of fake money printing and treating people like her slaves. Sajith was very famous for bulldozing old temples to unearth treasures. When his father was the President, the valuables of the Presidents house was looted, some appeared in a London market. When Sajith was studying abroad, mother used tutors to tutor him daily over the phone from Colombo for hours ; enormous amount of money was wasted. Premadasa was the origin of looting the country’s coffer, and Rajapakse multiplied that by 100 folds due to his large clan. Premadasa didn’t let his relatives to loot, except for his wife’s brother Badrapala who was once SL ambassador to Sweden who later got killed by his boy friend. So is Sajith’s family background. This is a minute fraction. How can one expect any good for the country come out from a person with such a family background? Already his wife has shown the eagerness to be called her as “Her Excellency”. If Karu J. comes to the scene, it will a different scenario as he doesn’t have a track record like Gota or Sajith. To my mind the best option for the underprivileged people and for the country’s coffer is Anura K.D. , but it is a dream. At least I am entitle to dream in this Paradise land.

Any right-thinking man/woman will never vote for Rajapaksa, Wickramasinge , Sajith or Karu, as they are all guilty of abusing power, corruption and treacherous acts against the motherland. Any of the 225 MPs and that good for nothing Sirisena, should not be considered to holp any public office again. We need a proven, uncorrupt person as our next president. The need of the hour is someone like former Auditor General, Gamini Wijesinghe, Sarath Mayadunne, Nagananda Kodituwakku or similar character to come forward and save our country from crooks and murderers.

The country needs a young leader with political experience to take it forward. We don’t need another parliament that is a “home for the aged”

Well written for those read and understand English language! However that lot is a minority! Hence the majority would not be able to directly benefit from this kind of intellectually written and presented material! It is therefore very hard to imagine what impact will have on the general public through this kind of presentations!

It is more likely that the majority of voters will be motivated by the political “song and dance” performed by the candidates and their agents, stooges, thugs and other collaborators!

Sure, it is indeed a sad consequence for this lovely island, Sri Lanka.

So far ony two candidates are confirmed for election.
Prachuteman (Gota ) from Rajapaksa alliance and Anura from Jvp alliance.

Most probably ranil will contest from unp ( as he will not give it to anyone else ). Sajith may come from a new alliance ( if he can do it, ranil may loose pm position as he will loose majority support in parliment. Probably sajith will be get pm position and it will be a cake walk from that position onwards)

Sirisena or Weladama may come from slfp alliance unless they support rajapaksa’s or sajith

It is obvious that crooked Ranil and vicious Gota had made a pact. This was made in Singapore when he visited Gota when the later was undergoing heart surgery. Simply, Ranil does not want Premadase and has a policy of inaction attitude. Utterly hopeless. No one in the current leadership, think Sri Lankan first – “Make Sri Lanka Great Again, and the Sri Lankans are an unenlightened lot with peas sized brain, yet they pray to the enlighten one. The poll shows Gota will win the race and Sri Lanka will be in the darkness for another decade. Cursed by the blood of the massacred innocents.

      Jey
I like that slogan” Make Srilanka great again”
If that slogan is made the winning word , firstly discard all the crooks and murderers who are naming themselves as Presidential hopefuls and choose a New candidate who is educated , caring true patriot of Srilanka.
That’s all we want and hoping for.
Yes! Make Srilanka Great Again” .
Certainly Not by GORa or SAPR who will lead our country to disaster and destruction.
      A New Name folks.

Tamils and Muslims and half of the Buddhists are not going to vote for Gota.
    Those votes remaining will decide.
I hope for a candidate without a sordid past, and who believes in justice and honesty to contest.
( SP may have a chance if he drops his ‘Sanga’ fixation.)
There are quite a few but most are unable, as this is a huge endeavour for anyone.

The masses of the country ( grass eaters ) have no where to go, no future in them and nothing to look forward to. Any arsehole who calls himself a politician and who has gone through the academy of corruption and thuggery is well equipped to fool the the grass eaters into voting for him ( them ).
The man knows that the educated can look for greener pastures but the grass eaters will live in limbo till deaths day. Fool them in speech and deed and hey presto ! the yakko is in power.
To put it bluntly there is not much hope for Sri lanka to pull it out of its current crisis and no Lee Kwan Yews and Dr Mahathirs to come to its rescue.
Ranil Wickremasinghe had every chance in his fingertips to prune the tree of corruption but the wanker failed miserably.
Sirisena , aka ( Janadipathi Thaatha ) is useless talking about. The man should have gone into selling flowers.
Karu J, is a silent crook who will sell his soul to the devil in secret. Outwardly he acts like a true gentleman.
Sajith Premadasa has no fire in him. Its all smoke. The Premadasa family friends will benefit greatly from kickbacks if Sajith comes into power. Also, all the skeletons in his father’s closet needs to be put to rest and the past cleaned up.
As for the Rajapaksas, only God alone knows their fate after they leave this world. Whatever it may be their corrupt souls will never ever rest in peace.
If their is a honest candidate as President and if he wins he will never survive amidst the evil of corruption that permeates society and surrounds him. His honesty, integrity and weakness will be his downfall.
That’s it !!!!! The future of Sri lanka is at stake and if there are good, honest, strong, tough men sitting around doing nothing and if they fail to wake up then ” Evil will triumph ” and the Devil will have his way.

Attn: All those “YOUNG” who attended the SLPP (Pohottuwa) seminar organized by GOTA. Please watch last week’s “Aluth Parlimenthuwa” conducted by Amarjith. The subject was ” The Fox and the piece of cheese”. We all have learned that story while in the primary. Amarjith related the story again and opened it for discussion. It was the turn of the “Secretary” of the Youth Organization of the “Pohottuwa’, a “Young Lawyer”. He said: “The story is incomplete. Then said: the true story ended when a monkey got hold of the piece of cheese and in the process of dividing it equally, finished eating it in whole”. Then there were other “Delegates” of the Young, who connected the “Crow” in the story to all the 225 Parliamentarians. Excepting a man who represented JVP, all others completely have lost touch with the PRINCIPLE the story taught us in primary: “Don’t be fooled by praise and lose your bearings”. I don;t know the credentials of the JVP man, but all other four are “Young Lawyers”. While watching this programe “Aluth Parlimenthuwa”, I was dismayed and surprised of the LOW STANDARDS of these “Representatives” of the Youth Organization that belong to the three main political parties viz. UNP, SLFP & SLPP. So no wonder the “Main Actors”(Foxes) of these parties too are “SHARP” as to recruit these “Dumb” leaders to mislead the YOUTH and surrender them to the “Dictates” of the “FOXES” such as GOTA & SAJITH who would definitely steel the piece of “Cheese” – the VOTE they posses.

Dear Sir Thank you for the analogy and very interesting to learn we are still doing what we did as a Nation since Independence?? Carrier politicians mostly all lawyers from all parts of the Country turned our parliament into a soap opera/court room drama for the past 70 years??

Even after (all our children have perished) irrespective of race or creed we have not allowed our people to vote without ghetto politics????

Democracy can not flourish through thuggery and at gun point but we have done that in all corners of the Country and somehow expect the results to be different???

There is no Tamil/Sinhala/Muslim/Hindu/Buddhist voters? because few politicians choose to speak about life in SL on this basis and a made a carrier/living and they were about to fail they ached on the children to kill their opponents in public stages????????? and the foreigners who exploited the situation too for their means and ends???

Time for us to start a new journey/new language and this need to start at each and every ones house without finger pointing??? The campaign in this election is about banning the language and religious based parties in Sri Lanka/National Security act and then only all other unnecessary positions….Presidential/excess Ministries/Abolition of the PC’s/limiting the number of people we elect in LG elections etc we need to discuss urgently???…then we need to discuss technocrats/quality of the candidates to deliver national program/fulfill the job function?????

Others need to find work elsewhere in the private sector if they have any skills to offer??? other than thuggery/gun running/killings/drugs/looting the Nation/treason/treachery??? and selling our children to foreign scums who will moslest them/misuse them/abuse them/brain wash them to do evil deeds for them???

“ ‘national security’ is the best and the only rationale for the candidacy of Gotabaya Rajapaksa”

    OK

What is the rationale for the candidacy ( yet to be confirmed) of Sajith Premadsa.?
    The 50,000 pm increase.?
Free lunch and other stuff for Dahomey Paasal kids?
Conversion of Presidents House and Temple Trees into Tech Colleges.
His hollow eyes resulting from his non-stop “work” for the people.?

Another point here is that the UNP is a Dead Political Party in SL at present and had been for the last few Decades in our APEH Aanduwe, it will remain ” Dead ” as long as the “SELFISH RW THE DOG IN THE MANGER ” remains the PM . I have put it bluntly as the curse of the Party.
They are shackled with a no goer. No future.
We have a Dictator as the President and a Dictator as the Prime-minister both should go gracefully before being made Naked by the People of Srilanka.

I have voted for Maithree and unp in 2015 election. I personally feel a pathola party like unp unable to face the top level capitalist business party like mahndas slfp
. specially a sirisena type candidate sajith Premadasa who unable to get at least 25% of votes will not suit to face the top business party candidate like gota. So we do not want to waste our votes by voting sajith ( sirisena 2), so only option to vote anura kumara to form a powerful opposition against the toplevel capitalist business party slfp of Mahinda.

There is no safety for Tamils, Muslims, Christians or any other minorities in Lankawe. Old Royals used the Rapist army to do genocide of Tamils and earned a name as one in 22 countries in the world use rape as weapon. Interestingly Old King was the one went to UNHRC with the complaint of Batalanda Murders to protect human rights of JVP terrorist. Old King said that in his new government he will eliminate fundamentalists and women will be safe. Batalanda murderers fame UNP, Vaalaiththodam JR said that his new government he will punish the murderers. He is saying murderers and thieves are blaming him as his criminal. Neither of the election parties is mentioning any word of “Tamils” to keep them safe in their racist political campaigns. Nor any words of what is the punishment for the past deeds happened in their times. Yet it was Vaalaiththodam SR burned the Jaffna Library and caused the Black July 1983. Old Royals created Mullivaaikkaal Genocide with Zero Casualty.
The destruction brought to Lankawe was by the lack of in-depth vision or perspective of the members of the Sinhala Buddhist political rulers, writers and theorist. The averages below 79 IQ species are easily manipulated by politicians, while others like writers and theoreticians are only doing that for themselves. In the world map, Ceylon never existed. Country Ceylon was put together by British administration. Don Stephen is crowned as Father of the Nation, Ceylon by the opportunistic political writers. The guy did not pick a stone and throw at Colonialist for the freedom of Lankawe. This racist started the divide and rule policies in Lankawe and planted the root of the nepotism to take care of his family and relatives. He violated the constitution by law breaking the Section 29 to introduce the Indian Pakistani Citizenship Acts. Getting the needed experience to thrive on divide and rule, he second time violated the S 29 and passed MMDA violating minority women’s rights.

It is a gang of jobless Panthakaraya writers misguided the country by crowning Don Stephen as the Father of the Nation. It is this guidance Ranil has sworn to follow. The Citizenship Act and MMDA taught the Sinhala politicians that a democratic constitution is nothing but only an onion and if you peel it, there will be nothing inside. The rest of the Lankawe’s constitutional history is only about tweaking it to war crime and genocide against minorities. Sinhala Only, Standardization, Buddhism Only 1958, 1977, 1983, impeaching Tamil opposition leader, PR system election, 6th Amendment, Emergency Regulations, PTA…….. Mullivaaikkaal, impunity for any crime, escape from Resolution 30/1, four Coups within last 4½ years………
Yahapalanaya promised constitutional protections within 100 days to Tamils to steal their votes in 2015. After victory, they publicly declared that they cannot do that because that would destroy them in the election that was coming in September. Ranil conducted LG elections changing the election system in a manner to demonstrate to the UNHRC that he would not implement the Resolution 30/1, which he signed in 2015. Ranil went to Oxford and taught to them of his Mahavamsa of what was happening in the colonial countries while Britain was ruling them. The Trio staged four Coups to warn those IC countries who engineered the regime change in 2015. Then he made his pact with Old Brother Prince to beat back America. He suppressed with everything possible for him to hold back Vaalaiththodam Jr coming front to EP election. Yet nothing is being satisfactory to him. So he is working on cancelling the EP election by changing the EP selection methods.

Media is reporting Vaalaiththodam Jr and Old Brother Prince are still Western candidates, after all Ranil’s hard work to convert them as China’s candidates. Mangala and his friend may implement Resolution 30/1 for EU and Old Brother Prince may sign the SOFA for America. Ranil feels as it is untimely action to take China’s consultation to deal with these two candidates. He is trying to please India by doing some fake developments in North and giving part of those contracts to India. He wants to allow flights from Palali, but wants to make sure Indian Tamils or Eelam Tamils wouldn’t use that Airport. (There won’t be flights to TN or no useful connecting flights to Europe or North America that diaspora Tamils can use from Palali.) Before his developments become another Volkswagen Factory & flip flop soon, he want to manipulate the EP election. He is planning while keeping the remaining EP authority intact, to bring in a new selection method by which he could keep Hakeem, Rishard and Sampanthar out of it. He is looking a final method to kill minorities’ voice in the ruling government by changing the influence of the minorities vote in presidential election.

actually gota will do a better job than sajit, but he won’t be able to keep out the rajapakshe clan bogarts from dipping their wicks into the pot of honey, though it is nearly empty now as the loans cannot be paid back now without printing money creating inflation. That is why sirisena has stopped the printing of money. Also the danger of thuggery, white vans and censorship, so freedom is lost.
