What Is This Fuss Over Crowds?

By Shyamon Jayasinghe

Shyamon Jayasinghe

Can any rational bystander make any sense about these cries of “Hurrah! We are winning!” while pointing out to relative crowd strengths at political meetings? We have seen this phenomenon occurring with regularity in Sri Lanka for a long time. We never learn lessons. Supporters of rival sides go into euphoria. That is the purpose in political parties gathering crowds. It is to create a false perception about winning. On the other hand, we have known many a time in the past that crowds at meetings do not necessarily translate into votes. Crowds gather for different reasons and your guess is as fair as mine. This is not to speak of the fact that crowds are by nature fickle.

During the last Presidential election huge crowds were drawn to Mahinda’s meetings and the television media relayed that ad nauseam. The result said something else. Writing to the Ugandan ‘New Vision,’ in November 2015, David Mukkholi said this: In the just concluded elections in Tanzania, the opposition presidential candidate Edward Lowassa pulled crowds at some rallies that were larger than those of the ruling party’s John Pombe Magufuli. But in the end Magufuli won.”

Just imagine well-known writer, Sarath de Alwis, writing to the Colombo Telegraph pointing to the conclusion that, “Mahinda is returning,” after looking at the Galle Face attendance last May Day. His fellow-mate Dr Dayan Jayatilleka rushes to Sarath’s side by lauding him for a “lucid analysis.” For heavens’ sake don’t lean on my assessment; but you yourself judge and let me know if there is anything but the opposite of being lucid in such reasoning. It is a totally illogical.

Actually, to be fair I do not have an accurate assessment of the relative attendances. But for the sake of argument, let us say that Mahinda’s rally was more impressive than the other three rallies. Sarath de Alwis’s reasoning isn’t lucid even then. That is not merely due to the obvious truth that one cannot jump from the premise of crowd attendance in one spot on one day to the inference that Mahinda has already won even the momentary concurrence of over 12 million voters spread out all over the length and breadth of Sri Lanka. It is also because the voting time is still over two years away.

Furthermore, Sarath Alwis has not even bothered to recognise the simple maths that the totality of the crowds of the other three meetings would have exceeded Mahinda’s rally. The UNP rally, from all accounts had been huge. JVP’s was impressive, too and the SLFP rally at Getambe was not far away despite the heavy rain. All those are all presumably anti-Mahinda voices. Then, what about the votes of our Tamil and Muslim brethren? The net result is obviously negative for Mahinda. Logically Mahinda has no chance on this line of reasoning.

It is clear. This is all fanciful wishful thinking by the two prominent writers. DJ has been in the fancy La La Land for a while now and there isn’t any sign of his waking. He experienced delusion years ago at the famous Nugegoda meeting when the ‘Mahinda Sulanga started.’ He, or another like him, coined the term “Nugegoda Man.” DJ was thrilled he got a place on the podium and he could not outlive that excitement. He wrote that the meeting signified Mahinda Rajapaksa’s rising. But, like any politician, DJ wouldn’t care repeating fiascos. The basic assumption of politicians in Sri Lanka is that masses can be fooled; that they have no memory. DJ is by now a scholar muted into a politician. He is on record (I have the video), during a Mahinda Sulanga meeting, rhetorically asking the audience: “Do you like a son of yours becoming like a Mahinda Rajapaksa or a Ranil Wickremesinghe?” Would you call a person like that a scholar or political analyst?

I can see one good thing in having public meetings like the May Day. It is an occasion when politicians distribute their black money among poverty-stricken people. It is a great moment of income distribution. Masses jump to the side that give them most cash in return.

Another good thing happened this time on May Day. It was that the CTB made 69 million rupees just on one day -hiring its buses for rallies. This is a sign of yahapalanaya because previously Mahinda and his men ordered the buses but never paid for them; the state had to bear the cost. This time all parties including those of the government paid for the hire. Even enemies of the YP government should congratulate President Sirisena and Prime Minister Wickremesinghe for this record.

Responsible writers and the intelligentsia in our country should get away from this kind of squad cheering and think larger about the country. What we now see is that writers like DJ and Sarath de Alwis and so many others of their ilk regard themselves as spectators in a big game of cricket. Each of them pitch on to sides of their choice and keep cheering. Considering the plight that Sri Lanka faces this is not a responsible move on the part of the of intelligentsia.

Our country is in poor economic shape. It is in the grasp of a severe debt trap. We have to extricate ourselves from this pathetic situation. Since the year 1977, we have not had a single year of trade surplus. It has been a case of recurring deficit trade balances. We have been living far above our means. We managed our Balance of Payments largely because of foreign remittances and that simply means that our economy has been sustained by the slavery of our housemaids. We have boastfully shown “growth,” but that growth is built on debt. We fool the people and the media by concealing that fact. The urgent need, thus, is to restructure our economy from an import dependent one to an export-led one. This means we must create an environment for foreign and domestic investment.

If we do not do this and instead create instability in the country for political gain all Sri Lankans are doomed to a tragic plight. Some of the intelligentsia who act as spectators and cheer squads will find a way out for their families and themselves. They will join the shouting Diaspora. The powerless will stay behind and reap the havoc of populist policies. Sri Lanka has had enough of populism. May Day antics are a public manifestation of populism. It is interesting to note how Sarath de Alwis is impressed by Mahinda being a ‘master of emotional politics,’ and how he deprecates Ranil Wickremesinghe for his appeal to rationalism. I like to tell Sarath that what Sri Lanka needs is precisely an appeal to reason.

      Dear Mr. Jayasinghe,
You have to accept the reality. Mahinda (minus Gotabaya and Dayan) drew the biggest crowd in any of the May day rallies staged this year. What people expected of the present government when they elected them have not been achieved. Corruption and mismanagement is rampant. Minorities who voted almost fully are disillusioned, and are unlikely to cast their vote again even in the face of the propaganda that Mahinda is going to come back and give trouble to them. It was a slap on the face to China when Mahinda was thrown out of office. China wants him back and is working on back stage for it. This has become a geo-political struggle between US/West/India on one side and China on the other. Unless the present government change their ways to eliminate corruption and settle problems of minorities in a fair manner, their is no hope for them to be re-elected. Global power struggle will only bring doom to Srilanka as what is happening in the Arab countries.

No one gives a thing about minority problems in SL. IRRELEVANT. They are more concerned about geopolitical stuff. Tamils have NO geopolitical power.

Did government bother asking Tamils before Trinco deal?

People are angry against the proposed constitution. They want to tear it off.

          “Tamils have NO geopolitical power.”

Yet Hindia used some of them effectively.

Ranasinghe Premadasa used some of them effectively.

          So did Mahinda Rajapakse.

The Tamils at least had some power for being effective mercenaries.

    Mr. Jayasingha,
As Amarasiri commented , on the same subject, there is really nothing to argue about.
More people in total went to the anti-Mahinda (UNP/SLFP/JVP/TNA)rallies than to Mahinda’s rally.

Thank you Shyamon for your strong rebuttal of wishful thinkers’ day dream of Mahinda Rajapaksa’s return. The crowds at JO ‘s rally were nothing but bus loads of gullible Sri Lankans transported from distant areas after they were handsomely paid and well fed by MaRa supporters using the money stolen during the previous regime. Just think about the fact that Janaka Bandara Tennekoon brought 100 bus loads from Dambulla alone. Why MaRa should never return to power? Because he is a scourge, a pest, and a menace to any development prospect for Sri Lanka.

Here is slice of what MaRa did during his dark 10 year reign of terror and corruption:

    1. [edited out]
    2. [edited out]

    3. Stealing $800 million of Tsunami funds through fake NGO called Helping Hambantota set up with assistance from Willie Gamage and depriving poor families of their right to rebuild their lives devastated by Tsunami

    4. Taking 19 billion US dollars as commissions from Chinese government corporations through white elephant useless development projects such as Hambantota Harbour, Airport, and southern expressway

    5. Putting Sri Lanka economy into an endless misery by taking high interest loans from China and pocketing in 40% of that money

    6. Nurturing an unprecedented culture of corruption and political victimization with immunity

    7. Killing and attacking journalists, judges, innocent civilians for 10 years

    8. Appointing an uneducated GoTa as defence head and stealing the credit of ending the 30 year war from SF, the true hero who led the final war against LTTE

    9. Making a synthetic lawyer of an idiotic son who couldn’t even pass his GCE (OL)

    10. Killing the most famous rugby player on behalf of another moron son

RE: What Is This Fuss Over Crowds?

      (275 Words)

Because they have Wimal Modawansa of 2/2=0 fame, spreading the Wimmal Modawansa “Algebra” called “Modabra” to all those in the JO, those who were bussed, as well those with IQ’s well below 79.

Besides, Galle face is a better venue compared to the other three venues, with free food and drinks, soft and hard, from the stolen billions.

However, the algebra, despite what JO, MaRa and Cronies are claiming is not in their favour, and MaRa MaRa ChaTu MaRa has lost about 10 percent, may be much more, compared to the Presidential elections of 2015, despite the busing. MaRa, JO and their cronies are very eager to get into the gravy train, again.

What do the overall numbers say? Will Mahinda Rajapaksa and cronies, who had 5 years after the war to fix it, do better next time? No.

From Facebook, from the Intelligence Unit, reports on the attendance at the May day Rallies are:

      Mahinda, JO, මහින්ද 105,000
      Ranil, UNP, රනිල් 65,000
      Maitri, SLFP ,මෛත්රී 58,000
      JVP ජවිපෙ 15,000

Total who wanted to see Mahinda, JO, 105,000= 43.2%

Total who Did NOT want to see Mahinda and JO =65k+58K+15k = 138,000 =56.8%

      Total overall attendance =138,000 +105,000 = 243,000 =100%

Mahinda got 48.2% of the Presidential Vote in 2015. Therefore, he has lost about 10% of his base over the last 2 years, even with busing, and unlikely to gain them back. Besides, they have gained fat, by eating off the stolen billions and doing no useful work.

The numbers are skewed because of extensive busing, but tells a story of Mahinda Rajapaksa’s base declining.

      Maharage,

I do not know where the hell you live. A large majority of people who live in Sri Lanka do not care rat’s ass for the things that you have listed. For us what is important is peace that President Mahinda Rajapakse brought to the country by eliminating Tamil Tiger terrorists. The politician who saw Sri Lanka through its darkest hour in recent history is President Mahinda Rajapakse. He promised that he will eliminate LTTE and he fulfilled his promise.

“The politician who saw Sri Lanka through its darkest hour in recent history is President Mahinda Rajapakse. He promised that he will eliminate LTTE and he fulfilled his promise.”

He gave money to LTTE too to get elected.

So, it is about Mahinda Rajapaksa, MaRa, not about the country.

Why did he abuse and jail the Real Hero Sarath Fonseka?

Most who support Mahinda Rajapaksa a have an IQ below 79, or Racist Sinhala “Buddhists”, or ignorant Sinhala “Buddhists”” and that has nothing to do with the pristine Buddhism Buddha taught.

If Gota were uneducated, then is Fonseka and a lot of war heroes. They all joined the military, went to officer cadet school and got a professional education.

So stop blasting Gota when Kalavadda is the one who got on stage and threatened MR with death on May day besides unleashing invectives on John Seneviratne.

As for CROWDS; they do not mean election victories. SLFP had a big rally on May 1st 1977 and LOST and were routed. Most of us real UNPers keep silent and vote with the silent majority. Same way when UNP brings in supporters with money, booze and rice as well it does not mean they will win either. But the math is simple. Muslims and Tamils will not vote for MR or his party. He will come in second to the UNP in Local elections and palaath paalana elections. Last ? Sirisena and Ganja Dumi’s SLFP. UNP WILL WIN BIG

    Dear Mr.Jayasinghe,

I did not say Mahinda will return. I said Mahinda never left. His presence in the popular psyche is far deeper than of any of his current political adversaries. I do not know if you voted for Maithripala on 8th January from down under. I certainly voted for him from up above in this benighted land. My stakes in this game with six adorable grand children living in this country is much higher than yours. I do not want the return of tyranny either.

Do me a favour. Ask Ranil to take lessons from Upul Shantha Sannasgala in Sinhala Elocution so that next time he addresses a rally he makes a coherent case for regional economic integration which is the right policy. I have no quarrel with Ranils policies. I have a quarrel with his cronies and his style. He must become the kind of leader that people would follow voluntarily; even if he were out of power. Mahinda is such a leader. Did you listen to Akila Viraj his hand picked UNP youth leader? I did . My Seventeen year old Grand Son did. He asked me ‘Aththappa ! Why is that bugger howling ?

Excuse the writer, green blood flows in his veins and he has a soft spot for Ranil. Unlike many, he still thinks Ranil can deliver.

Shyamon Jayasinghe says “He is on record (I have the video), during a Mahinda Sulanga meeting, rhetorically asking the audience: “Do you like a son of yours becoming like a Mahinda Rajapaksa or a Ranil Wickremesinghe?”

That’s not entirely accurate, or rather, it is only partially accurate.

What I actually kept asking was “Who would you prefer your son, or father, or brother, or husband to be like (or to be said to be like):Ranil Wickremesinghe or Mahinda Rajapaksa?”

You should have seen the facial expressions and heard the audience responses …especially from the women.

asking the audience: “Do you like a son of yours becoming like a Mahinda Rajapaksa or a Ranil Wickremesinghe?”

      People would say none.

Because, one say he had 48 years of political experience. His acheivement is war win which we know how it happened. Hf was sourounded, even to date, with all the people with baggage. Even in the Camaraman was careful to exclude Vasudeva and dinseh gunawardane who are anti-sinhala. that is besides the so many other names who have used the position for them to get rich. wiman Weerawansha like people even made the exteended family and friends rich.

IF they were asked about their thefts, they talk about other things or people instead of their thefts.

That is how their political life is too. Once they get the position, they forget the country and start stealing from the country.

I think, Shyamon Jayasinghe is analysis is very reasonable.that is what is happening.

The war monger now encourages/wants all women of pregnant ages to get impregnated by Mahinda, not by their husbands or partners.

Husbands, partners and boyfriends of all women of child bearing age beware Dayan wants MR to impregnate your partners.

You are exposed to another fascistic idea that Dayan wants all future babies are created with the Paramount Leaders Mahinda’s sperm.

He sees a potential Genghis Khan in Mahinda.

Now women of Sri Lanka, if you want to spread Mahinda’s seeds please vote him next time.

Husbands, partners and boyfriends if you want your gene passed on to next generation please vote against the clan.

In the mean time what do you want to do with Dayan who is getting madder and madder by the second?

Galle Face Green an occupy by massive crowed of People of an Island at center of Colombo is not joke. That is result of People’s Aspiration and lost hope of UNP, SLFP, JVP and TNA in future .

Who are the political forces behind the victory Presidential election in 2015 January ? UNP, section of SLFP by CBK ,JVP and TNA.
By their deeds the Majority people lost confidence of above forces. Are these forces led by UNP-Ranil W… MS & CBK; after two and half years in power that they did not delivered sustainable life for majority people of Sri Lankan?

Nothing at all. Only result of ‘Good Governance’ and “Rule of Law” is that country has gone to backward for several years.
Facts remained an economy in uncertainties ,politically instability and Ethnic upheavals of Muslim ISIS and Tamil-terrorist of Gun-rule mode of operandi of their ugly forces has been reawaking.

Majority People are insecure , feel bad to worse and more sensitivity on issues are connected and effects day to day life have-not’s, the rural and Urban poor has totally abandoned by ruling classes in power the majority people and emerging middle classes in society as wholly drop-out from the society.

That is key reason of millions of People of all walkers life been sitting in Gall Face Green which I haven’t seen in my life-time.

MR turning into liberator of people. We like it or Not that MR become liberator of Majority Masses who believed democracy mode of social structure changes in Sri lanka.

All are they having common ground of ills of that current ruling alliance has problems become common to all of them. They demand to quite present administration as soon as possible. These is the minimum demand of majority People. Democratic nation has to give priority of will of People . That is how system of democratic works on 21st century mode of democracy.

The country seek Independent, Nation seek liberation and People want radical democratic changes by will of new mandate by Ballot of changing rulers by majority verdicts . That seems to legitimacy democracy of the people’s point of view.

Crowds cannot be interpreted as a victory. However, it gives us a clear indication. They did attract a massive crowd. No two words about it. THE area the GF crowd was 18 acres. Where as the other meetings were nowhere near this acreage. Common sense should infer that this crowd far exceeded the two meetings at Getambe etc. Some people are always in denial in support of their wild assumptions. it is common knowledge that all parties supply transport, food and drinks to the supporters. Some ssupporters take this opportunity to enjoy themselves having a joy ride thrown in at someone elses expence .

While agreeing with most of what the writer has said, I think something he has missed out is that most people who voted for this Govt be they the U.N.P. or the S.L.F.P. are in my opinion not the “May day Rally” going people. They have better things to do than going like mad hatters. getting burnt in the sun and accepting whatever handouts are being distributed and shouting themselves hoarse at these parades. And for what?

Speaking for myself I went about my usual chores, thankful to the workers who gave me a holiday, and then had time for a good gin and lime with a couple of friends, all of whom were anti MRP but did not even give him the privilege of talking about him. So don’t bank on judging by crowd attendance as there were millions who did not attend any of these rallies.
Only fools get hyped by a such throngs.

Incidentally those two poor men who attended the Galle Face Green rally and gave their lives were 80 and 60 years old. Does it tell a story ?

May Day (or Labour Day) has been where workers of nations united in their solidarity against exploitation. However, the reverse is true in SL where people become divided according to the wishes of the parasitic political class that has bled the country for decades, along the lines of colours and symbols used to lure illiterate people, which are still used…shame on the people for submitting to bribes and selling their souls for the further enrichment of parasites at the cost of their own welfare…

The “strong-man concept” where people come to believe that one single man can save the whole society/”nation” is a symptom of half-baked/primitive societies. For all its pretensions, America too, at its core, in a primitive society. It’s possible, for societies to be highly technically advanced, but still be primitive in many other ways. Canada, next door is a more “evolved” society. Don’t get me wrong I love America to death; the decadence suits my own heart to a T.

More “evolved” societies have come to realize the flaws of human-nature and have checks and balances in place and a high turnover of rulers/leaders to prevent/limit the damage that can be caused by “man.” It’s only in primitive societies people think that the ruler should have unlimited power for him to do “good.” The “good” never happens.

Our society has to evolve for another 2500 years to reach that stage. We are still in year 1; time moves slowly in SL.

I hope the people who write and comment here understand that it’s not going to happen in our life-time. If you don’t …… all your impressive educations, intelligence/thinking-power amounts to zilch. What we are doing here is nothing but venting our frustrations/anger, a sorta self-therapy for ourselves. What we write here is not going to make an iota of difference.

No one can impose a modern democracy in Nigeria. We all can comprehend it. But we can’t comprehend that no one can impose a modern democracy in SL. Our society has not evolved to a stage where it is possible.

Mahinda, Ranil, Sirisena, Sampanathen, Hakeem, Thondaman, CBK, Prabakaran, Wijeweera ( they are just the symptoms of our society, what our society threw-up; they are not the ones who created the society) …………. can fall dead tomorrow, nothing much gonna change. We are what we are; that’s the hand fate has dealt us.

Only time …….. thousands of years …….. if at all …..

well even President Donald Trump made a big fuss about the crowd that attended or did not attend his inauguration.

He branded as fake news when the media compared the empty lawn with that of a sea oh human during Obama’s inauguration

He even claimed that his inauguration was the record breaking attendance ever.

So may be our politicians and their arse lickers are getting on the bandwagon

I’ve spoken to several hie-hard MR supporters. They constantly bring up the crowd issue. Saying they brought so many to Nugegoda, so many to Galle-Face, so many to Kesbewa etc, etc. They say “කොහොමද අපේ crowd එක!”. My immediate response to them is the crowd at meetings are irrelevant. What matters is the day of the ballot. But they don’t seem to get it.

I guess they think by showing large crowds at rallies they can psychologically effect people who might not vote for them. I think they are trying to play some kind of psychological game. Not too unlike some creative marketing personnel. I see this as an attempt to change minds of the voters by reinforcing current MR support base by showing how “strong” they are and hoping the people who are likely to vote against MR will be intimidated by the large crowds into thinking there is not point voting.

But if we use the scientific method, so far the results of this tactic has been not show any positive results.

This “Crowed Counting” has become an ambrosia for those bent on distracting attention of the people whose collective strength is just ignored or used as a tool to overcome the truth and reality. In one of the comments above, it has been very correctly stated to count all the crowed that attended so many rallies in Colombo and elsewhere put together compared to the numbers at the JO rally. Looking at it from that fact, can JO and its organizers led by MR feel happy of a bid to come back? If they do, it is very foolish to live in that paradise. As a matter of fact, no one should get mislead by the “Crowed Counting”; because that has become a thing in the past. The present is very different and the continuing developments are steady and “secretive” That may look very shallow, but would ultimately find very deep.

Where do the Lankan politicians find the money for the May Day rallies.

Just across the Straight a bye-election was cancelled because the Indian Election Commission intercepted wads and wads of unaccounted money.

Are e heading in this direction?

TO SARATH ALWIS & DAYAN JAYATILLEKA:
1.Sarath, you deny having said Mahinda will return. Here is a copy/paste from your article: “There is no question of Mahinda returning.”
I notice some commentators have already observed between the lines of your piece that you have romanticized Mahinda Rajapakjse and tried to deprecate his chief political opponent, Ranil Wickremasinghe. You also mock at RW’s attempt to reason out matters and show enthusiasm in MR’s emotional play. Discerning readers with intelligence can see through you. Your occasional ‘condemnation,’ of the MR era is perfunctory and I interpret that as being tactical and cautionary. I have read you from the past. At least DJ is found -out as he blabbers his harangue in an amazing naivety.
2.What a silly guy DJ is! He states here that my quote from his video is inaccurate. DJ states: “What I actually kept asking was “Who would you prefer your son, or father, or brother, or husband to be like (or to be said to be like): Ranil Wickremesinghe or Mahinda Rajapaksa?”What a world of difference this correction makes!
Readers, please note what follows in DJ’s ‘correction lines,’ above. Here is what DJ says: “You should have seen the facial expressions and heard the audience responses …especially from the women.” This comment is pathetic. Is there any surprise that MR supporters right in front of the podium from which DJ spoke would have positive facial expressions? Isn’t DJ damn silly in having made this statement? To cap it all, he adds that women, in particular, smiled when he made that cheap statement. Had DJ made such a third rate statement in front of a neutral audience he would have been hooted down.

“There is no question of Mahinda returning.” Me too wrote similar sentences, but not with exact wording like this. But there is something behind is expected the readers are conscious of.

With 19A there is no way Old King can become EP. So, that is not what meant by “Returning”. It is, he is challenging the UNP and SLFP was the meaning of it. It was known for long (two years) time, but it was not as clear as today’s verdict for Geetha. What it means is the 2nd in command is not coming as EP also. Third one, Fourth ones are extremely hard to win an EP election.

Under normal circumstances the best they can go is not beyond PM. Appointing Old King as PM, with this constitution, is on EP’s hand. That question is only if he wins the election. That is either SLFP or UNP(Who ever having the EP) has to accept him has PM.

Now many are in SLPP because they did not get minister posts they looked for. So, it doesn’t matter for them whom they are supporting. But in the next election if the UNP_SLFP staying together, there will the Minister posts be ample. Many would like to support UNP_SLFP and not a standing alone party. In any case Old King has to be under the New King in “SLFP EP and SLPP PM” scenario. New King may not like to go alone without UNP, until the UNHRC electric chair is open on him too. Total Number of ministerial posts is another talk. I don’t see if the UNP lose, New King may appoint Old King as PM. He may make a deal with UNP, instead.

Tamil News also describing that he is returning from the fall, but not to EP seat.

      2. What happened in 2015 was a temporary set back resulting from unconscionable malicious propaganda. People will never forget the second liberation in May 2009. There is no question of Mahinda returning.

              Native Vedda,
I am choosy about associates but do not limit myself to faith, ethnic, patriotism etc which are the incubators of war.
I have no problem with Hindi or Hindian people (Lanka gave the neighbours the chance to rule and terrorise)
Neither do I have problems with Chinese as they are my friends but would learn conversational Mandarin which is the future for Asia and the world.

I have no problem living among various races(?) people speaking different languages or practicing religions.

They should not attempt to enforce their political agenda through language, religion, trade, might, sheer numbers, …..

Hindians are not the ordinary people – the majority is stupid anyway. Hindians are the ones who enforce their political agenda in terms of language, religion, culture, economy, …. including their powers to tell me what to eat, when to eat, how much to eat, how much to pay for food, how much people earn, and where they get their knowledge from, Ramayana and astrology, …. and would like to have over all control over my sex life …. etc

Similarly the Sinhala/Buddhists are a noisy minority whose only wish is to destroy this island.

If Chinese are a peacefully rising middle kingdom let them rise in their own land (we actually do not know where there border starts and ends).

May be SJ could tell us.

Hindians, Mandarins, Sinhala/Buddhists, Tamil/Saivaite ….. Arab/Islamists, ….. Latin/Christians ….. should keep their religion, language, culture …. to themselves, … must stop brutally imposing them on others.

I am not a racist because I love Chinese food, Idly, …. Kavun, ….. Falafel, Apple Pie, …..

This is not warning for UNP from Joint Comedy club. This is warning from Yahapalanaya to IC……;especially EU and UNHRC.They can’t bully him much anymore.

He promised in the Temple Tree House to save Old King. Even before that he went to New York to contest UNSG on Expert Panel’s report. In that election New King and Ranil promised “No leader, No commander and no Soldier will be prosecuted”. The job of an oppositions is to find fault on ruling government. Ranil did not find fault in those the SLFP that was ruling. In Parliament, When Kathirgamar case was referred, Ranil said to Old King “If you want we can prosecute that case also”. What he said was “We are saving, not prosecuting, you in many cases, you may not want to put yourself unnecessarily in front of the court of law. New King said he file on Old King, but never released or prosecuted him.

Neither Ranil nor New King is worried about Joint Comedies gathering at Galle Face Green. This might be an ailing seen for who wanted the CC. Tamil may soon how Sampanthar was wrong on asking to vote for CC.

what makes you think that if prabaharan was assassinated, the war would have been over?premadasa, gamini, lalith, ranjan, denzil were assasinated.Did it result in a victory for the LTTE.It proves that nobody is indispensable, and if they are killed someone else will just take over.

When prabhaharan killed rajiv,he became a liability for the tamils and the LTTE.It would have been so good if you had bumped him off in 2004 and got rid of a liabilty on the tamil and LTTE balance sheet. The next in line mahattaya a supporter of india and a battle field veteran would have taken over.karuna too would not have split.

Why get rid of a liability of the LTTE.probably that’s how ranil’s crafty brain would have been working. Also how do you kill a leader when a ceasefire is on.What will the world think of us.The repercussions would have been vast, with the international community condemning us and india and india’s stooge mahattaya and the brilliant battlefield commander karuna against us.in fact everyone against us.

There is no truth any book Thero read out. If he is truth for even 1% he would have ended the UNHRC in May 2009.

He tells the writers what to write and then he bring it out and read.

Bloody idiots are not able to tell where he is/was for 9 years after they claimed he is dead. They showed a corpse on the national TV but have no guts to issue death certificate. In that pathetic condition Thero is decribing that his men were standing next to Leader Pirapaharan and eating Kavvum with him.

Can he take this book and go back to UNHRC?

After all it is his boss paid to LTTE against Ranil.

Can Thero Bring back Sooriachari to witness what happened? They murdered him and reading and writing.

I think crowds don’t mean much politically. Poor old Dudley drew vast crowds wherever he went with his camera round his neck and pipe in mouth during the ‘grow more food’ days of 1967 to 1970. He thought he’d win re-election comfortably in 1970.Yet he was roundly defeated by the UF govt that, for the first time in our post-independence history scored 2/3 majority in the House.

MR has more money than the government. So he must have used some of his black money to bribe and coax most to come.

All this said, the fun and games of Sirisena and Wickremesinghe and their government members must stop. They must work harder and show tangible results, especially on the economic front if they are not to be considered potential losers. And they must take decsions without passing that responsibility to one another. SAITM is a good example

What made Ranil to say “looking at this crowd I can say we can win any election!” He was not aware that One KM away at Galle Face there was a gathering 10 times bigger than what he saw in Campbell Place.
While the people who wish to live under justice and law do not care much about these crowds who have been mustered by all Politicians Ranil should not have made such an idiotic statement.
It looks like he gets worked up without much thinking!
