Thuggery Reappears In Eastern Election

Our Eastern Province Correspondent –

Unidentified members have been inducted by the UFPA, the alliance in Government to engineer the Eastern provincial council elections in their own fashion with the support TMVP members.

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) candidate Krishnapillai Seyon and his supporters were canvassing for TNA in Karuvaakeni, Valaichenai when these men in two Motorbikes (EPVI-8746, NCHR-7414) appeared and started to abuse them in filth against the candidate, his supporters and TNA party and left the scene. Then they reappeared in force on a tractor carriage with forty goons armed with sticks and batons and confronted TNA campaign group. The poster on the campaign vehicle was torn off by this goon squad and hand bills were confiscated and destroyed at once in front of us, a member of TNA campaign team told Colombo Telegraph.

We were told that this area belongs to Chief Minister Chandrakaanthan (Pillayan) and no other party can conduct campaign and asked to leave the vicinity. When the goons were becoming agitated and demanded that if we do not leave immediately that we were going to be harmed. The identified culprit of this alleged violation is identified as a supporter of chief minister Chandrakaanthan from Sunkankeni and an ex-provincial council member of Eastern province from ruling alliance party of President Rajapakse.

This incident of election violation was brought to the attention of Police and election monitors in writing by TNA candidate Krishnapillai Seyon.

Yes, the picture speaks a thousand word! This imbecile in a suit, thug Pillayn, is like his former mentor Karuna the other uneducated imbecile ex-LTTE killer from the East propped up by Rajapassa bros (whose pictures once hung in TMVP torture chambers in Batti) into suits, women and guns at the Water’s Edge Golf Course in Colombo.
TNA must bring a case against these two war lords – pilliayan and karuna- and have pillayan disqualified from the the elections – since the evidence is out in the open..

The real test and bedrock of democracy are FREE and FAIR elections.
After the sixties,Sri Lanka is yet to have free and fair elections. The elections commissioner is powerless.
None of the political parties want a truly powerful elections commissioner, like in India, as ALL of them ‘play the same game’ during elections.
This intimidation will be followed by thugs assaulting voters, snatching of polling cards, cahasing away of opposition polling and counting agents etc.
Sri Lanka may be the only country where politicians campaign sourrounded by armed men.
The elections commissioner does not want outside observers as his ineffectiveness will be exposed. But the world knows what is happening.

The same method Prabha used in 1995 elections now been used by Mara which will definitely backfire in coming months. Elections in Sri Lanka is the biggest joke and the breeding grounds for Govt.thugs like Jula. Amare. But things could change rapidly in due course.

These PC elections will be staged and won for MR to show his popularity. However MR will meet his waterloo at the next Presidential Election for sure as there are many surprises for him.

what happened to the violations that were reported to have the case with nominees for these elections ?. I happened to read somewhere that there are already several candidates to these polls that re close or far relatives of the ruling MPs. Latter is though exclusion creteria for the election candidates.

What I believe is until people the country stay as they are today, MR will stay in power as it was the case for Indonesia under Suhartho.

WHERE ARE THE TAMIL PARLIAMENTARIANS COMPARED TO WHAT THEY ASKED IN 1987? (MAY BE CONSIDERED AS A SUBJECT MATTER TO THEIR LOOSING GROUND ON POLITICAL LEGITIMACY)

Letter sent by the Parliamentary Tamil United Liberation Front
to Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on 28 July 1987

When provincial council were contemplated TULF expected a solution to ethnic problem, put an end to suffering of the victims and enable Tamils and others to live in safety and security with freedom, honour and dignity.

However, the inability and unwillingness of the present Regime (& regimes before) to conclude a political solution exposes their motives and the the current regime have become the impediment to a negotiated political solution.

From the start, Tamils were totally opposed to the holding of any referendum (or elections) in any part of the country and certainly not after one year as proposed.
The peace sought to be achieved will be shattered and there will be conflict and turmoil again.
Besides, the Tamil people of the Eastern Province, more than half of whom are destabilized and driven out of their homes and villages, will hardly be able to return to their villages, rebuild their homes and settle down to normal life.

Not merely the army camps set up after May, 1987, but all the camps and mini camps established all over the Northern and Eastern Provinces after 1983 should be dismantled.
The Sinhala home guards who have been armed by the government should be disarmed immediately and the STF commandos removed from the Eastern Province.

The use of Sinhala Police and Army for enforcement of law and order in the Northern and Eastern Provinces will not ensure the safety and security of the Tamil people.
Effective Indian involvement in ensuring the safety and security of the Tamil people in the Northern and Eastern Provinces is imperative in the transition period. (In the absence of IPKF, provincial police should be established under chief minister to replace the law&order institution in the East and later in the North)

The draft agreement provides for further negotiations regarding some aspects of devolution. Tamil rights in relation to the Central Government should also be discussed. We would request the participation of Indian constitutional experts along with us in the negotiations.

The amnesty contemplated should be extended to cover all persons charged or convicted under the Prevention of Terrorism Act or Emergency Regulations. The Prevention of Terrorism Act should be repealed.

Victims of violence by the military and paramilitary forces, as well as during the ethnic riots, should be adequately compensated and fully rehabilitated.

Voters’ lists certified after 1982 have been prepared without Tamil participation and after thousands of Tamil voters were displaced. Any election held should be on the registers certified in 1982.

The administration of the Port of Trincomalee and the extent of the land to be utilized for activities related to the port should be discussed and finalised.

Where does TNA stand? Where do the Extra-Parliamentarians stand??

This is one of the two ways by which the UPFA can win the election in the eastern province. The other way is by vote rigging which will be rampant. The UPFA knows very well that without resorting to such illegal activities the TNA will triumph.Karuna, Pillayan and Douglas can’t survive without Rajapaksa support and that is a fact. Shameless criminal bast**ds.
