Under its well established policy to mislead the world of its barbarity the settler-fascist colonial state of Israel massacred Anas al-Sharif, one of Al Jazeera’s most recognizable faces in Gaza, Mohammed Qraiqea and five others in an attack on tent for journalists in al-Shifa hospital in Gaza. This was no accident of war. It was a precision attack – the deliberate erasure of journalists who would not stop telling the truth.
The killings came after weeks of public incitement against Al Jazeera reporters, particularly al-Sharif. Israeli army spokesperson for Arabic media, Avichay Adraee, had singled him out in recent online posts, accusing him of spreading “false propaganda”. This, perhaps, is the prelude to a larger massacre which is about to take place for Israeli to takeover Gaza City and forcefully ethnic cleanse Palestinians. There were even reports that discussions were underway to settle Gaza Palestinians in South Sudan.

This undated photo shows Al Jazeera correspondents Anas al Sharif (L) and Mohammed Qraiqea (R) outside a media
In a statement, Al Jazeera called Sharif “one of Gaza’s bravest journalists” and said the attack was “a desperate attempt to silence voices in anticipation of the occupation of Gaza”. “Anas and his colleagues were among the last remaining voices from within Gaza, providing the world with unfiltered, on-the-ground coverage of the devastating realities endured by its people,” it said.
“While international media was barred from entering, Al Jazeera journalists remained within besieged Gaza, experiencing the hunger and suffering they documented through their lenses. Through continuous, courageous live coverage, they have delivered searing eyewitness accounts of the horrors unleashed over 22 months of relentless bombing and destruction,” Sharif’s reporting entered millions of homes across the Arab world. More than a journalist, he became a trusted witness. His audience knew his grief as much as they knew his voice: the killing of his father by Israeli fire, and his separation from his mother, his daughter Sham, his baby son Salah – born during the genocide – and his wife Bayan.
Columnist Maram Humaid said Al Jazeera Arabic’s entire northern Gaza crew had been wiped out – correspondents, cameramen and equipment – erased. The charges against them were ready-made, fabricated. But everyone knows Israel fears only one thing: the truth. Israel has killed 238 Palestinian journalists in Gaza since the beginning of the war in 8 October 2023. Sharif knew this might be his fate.
Sharif’s killing is not an ending. It is the erasure of a witness before the curtain rises on what comes next: massacres planned in plain view, sanctioned by United States, United Kingdom, European allies and shameless Arab tyrants, to drive Gaza’s last survivors from their land. Sharif’s blood is not Israel’s burden alone. It stains the hands of every government that looked away; every newsroom that ignored the massacre.
Shortly before his killing, in a final message, the reporter said that he had “lived through pain in all its details, tasted suffering and loss many times, yet I never once hesitated to convey the truth as it is, without distortion or falsification.”
This is my will and my final message. If these words reach you, know that Israel has succeeded in killing me and silencing my voice.
First, peace be upon you and Allah’s mercy and blessings. Allah knows I gave every effort and all my strength to be a support and a voice for my people, ever since I opened my eyes to life in the alleys and streets of the Jabalia refugee camp. My hope was that Allah would extend my life so I could return with my family and loved ones to our original town of occupied Asqalan (Al-Majdal). But Allah’s will came first, and His decree is final.
I have lived through pain in all its details, tasted suffering and loss many times, yet I never once hesitated to convey the truth as it is, without distortion or falsification—so that Allah may bear witness against those who stayed silent, those who accepted our killing, those who choked our breath, and whose hearts were unmoved by the scattered remains of our children and women, doing nothing to stop the massacre that our people have faced for more than a year and a half.
I entrust you with Palestine—the jewel in the crown of the Muslim world, the heartbeat of every free person in this world. I entrust you with its people, with its wronged and innocent children who never had the time to dream or live in safety and peace. Their pure bodies were crushed under thousands of tons of Israeli bombs and missiles, torn apart and scattered across the walls. I urge you not to let chains silence you, nor do borders restrain you. Be bridges toward the liberation of the land and its people, until the sun of dignity and freedom rises over our stolen homeland. I entrust you to take care of my family.
I entrust you with my beloved daughter Sham, the light of my eyes, whom I never got the chance to watch grow up as I had dreamed. I entrust you with my dear son Salah, whom I had wished to support and accompany through life until he grew strong enough to carry my burden and continue the mission. I entrust you with my beloved mother, whose blessed prayers brought me to where I am, whose supplications were my fortress and whose light guided my path. I pray that Allah grants her strength and rewards her on my behalf with the best of rewards.
I also entrust you with my lifelong companion, my beloved wife, Umm Salah (Bayan), from whom the war separated me for many long days and months. Yet she remained faithful to our bond, steadfast as the trunk of an olive tree that does not bend—patient, trusting in Allah, and carrying the responsibility in my absence with all her strength and faith. I urge you to stand by them, to be their support after Allah Almighty. If I die, I die steadfast upon my principles.
I testify before Allah that I am content with His decree, certain of meeting Him, and assured that what is with Allah is better and everlasting. O Allah, accept me among the martyrs, forgive my past and future sins, and make my blood a light that illuminates the path of freedom for my people and my family. Forgive me if I have fallen short, and pray for me with mercy, for I kept my promise and never changed or betrayed it. Do not forget Gaza… And do not forget me in your sincere prayers for forgiveness and acceptance. Anas Jamal Al-Sharif 06.04.2025

Hello Latheef Farook,
Thanks for your article. Two of my next door neighbours in Doha Al Jadeeda were Journalists for Al Jazeera. I worked with and knew quite a few Palestinians in Qatar. I met one of their Fathers at his Grandson’s Wedding Celebration. He was one of the refugees from Palestine during the Nakba. He was in his 90s and sadly passed away not long after the Wedding.
All of the Palestinians that I met had nothing but Contempt for Mahmoud Abbas. Where is his voice condemning the Assassination of the Al Jazeera Journalists. I know it is very unlikely that Israel will release Marwan Barghouti who would be the best Leader of the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.
Trump’s past is quickly catching up with him, however I don’t think it will make any difference to the Genocidal Policy of the US and Israel, even if Trump is forced to Resign. They want Gaza Ethnically Cleansed and resettled by Israelis. Netanyahu won’t stop there; the West Bank and East Jerusalem will be annexed and other neighbouring Countries Invaded. The Zionists will stop at nothing to achieve a “Greater Israel” unless they are Physically stopped. At present i can’t see the European countries doing that, but maybe their populations will pressurise them into Sanctioning Israel.
Best regards

Abbas is either spineless or a total sellout to the Zionists.
Perhaps a corrupt blend of both.
Hamas won the elections because the people were so fed up with him.

Mahmoud Abbas is 89 years old. He has done NOTHING for his people, and apart from weak statements of condemnation, he has not actively worked in the international arena to bring freedom for his people. He certainly acts like he is in the payroll of the zionists and americans, and acts as if his duties are to protect the war crimes of the genocidal nation. Netanyahu paid suitcases of Qatari cash to Hamas to prop them up and prevent them asking for a Palestinian state, so we should not be surprised old Abbas is in their pockets to. He is doing what other Arab leaders are doing to stop the carnage – nothing.

Several Tamil Journalists were murdered in a move to hide atrocities on Tamil people. Still the harassment of Tamil journalists is going on. Why have you not condemned it and showing double standards. You are an Islamic fanatic only concerned about Muslims. Worst racism in Srilanka is Muslim claim to eastern province. To achieve this Muslims colluded with Buddhists to commit murder and ethnic cleansing of Tamils in eastern province. All Muslims who committed crime against Tamils are walking free. If you are honest highlight these and get those Muslims arrested.

Another biased writer ignoring the elephant in the room. All this needless suffering of the Gazans could be ended immediately if Hamas, the lunatics who started it all by launching an unprovoked attack in Israel on Oct 7 2023, released the remaining hostages and surrendered unconditionally.
According to a PBS NEWS report dated 3 August 2025, “Hamas has long called for a comprehensive deal but says it will only release the remaining hostages in return for the release of Palestinians imprisoned by Israel, a lasting ceasefire and an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. The militant group has refused to lay down its arms as Israel has demanded.”
To this they recently added the extra condition of the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as the capital before it disarms (thanks to Canada, UK and Australia, who announced that they are going to recognize a sovereign Palestinian state).
In this situation, what other option does Israel have but to maintain their offensive until Hamas are neutralized and the hostages released? Thereafter they have to ensure that Hamas will no longer control Gaza and launch any more attacks against Israel. This rightly involves the occupation of the whole of Gaza.
/
auntyfreeze / August 19, 2025
What on earth do you know about Hamas, Leonard? And what do you know about the attack on October 7th? Following the Nakba of ’47 Palestinians were pushed into Gaza and have been living under a terrible siege ever since. It is an open air prison, if you didn’t know. Israel has been committing the most heinous crimes against the Palestinians for years and israel encourage Hamas in order to break up the power of the Palestinian Authority.
The Israelis themselves have revealed that the bulk of the damage on Oct 7 was caused by the use of the Hannibal Directive – look it up.
And if you lived under the apartheid like the Palestinians, what would you do? meekly accept their fate? or fight back? Hamas was a political entity who won an election. But hey, don;t take my word – listen to what several israeli historians say about this. I suggest you listen to Prof Avi Shlaim, Noman Finkelstein etc, instead of ingesting all the zionist talking points.
Also, shame on you for defending an aparthied state like israel that discriminates against jews of colour – plenty written about it – so here you are with your brown skin, defending a state that would treat you the same way as the Palestinians!!

I would suggest you educate on the basic history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict first before you presume to comment on things you know little or nothing about.
Against a backdrop of growing violence between Jews and Arabs and against British rule, in 1947 the UN voted for the partition of the British-mandated territory of Palestine into separate Jewish and Arab states with Jerusalem as an international city (Resolution 181). The surrounding Arab states and Palestinian leadership opposed this. Following the end of the British Mandate in May 1948, Israel declared an independent state of Israel, which was recognized by the UN the following year. The ARAB STATES INVADED, initiating the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. What you call Nakba was a result of that.
Gaza was an open air prison? Show me the evidence for this. Have seen footage of Gaza before 7 October 2023? How many Gazans do you think now wish they could go back their “open air prison”?

Apartheid means a policy or system of segregation or discrimination on grounds of race that was practised in South Africa. There are about 2m Arabs (21% of the population) living in Israel as citizens and they enjoy the same rights as Jews, including representation in Israeli parliament. The Arabs in the occupied territories are NOT citizens; they are treated differently not because they Arabs but because they are not citizens of Israsel. So no apartheid practised by Israel againts its Arab citizens or at least to any significant extent so far as I know. If you know differently, let me have the evidence from reliable sources.
You: Israel discriminates against Jews of color.
Not true. “Israel has broad anti-discrimination laws that prohibit discrimination by both government and non-government entities on the basis of race, religion, and political beliefs, and prohibits incitement to racism.” (Source: Wikipedia)

Leonard,
“The Arabs in the occupied territories are NOT citizens; they are treated differently not because they Arabs but because they are not citizens of Israsel. “
That sounds eerily similar to what White Afrikaners (thank God they no longer rule) used to say about the Blacks whose lands they occupied. “Separate but equal, ” and non-citizens to boot, in their own country, and free to provide labour where necessary. But still, I think the Afrikaners had much more right to do it , having lived in SA since the 17th century, than the European Zionists who took over Palestine in 1948.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bantustan
I would also suppose that this explains why Israeli soldiers on RnR in Arugam Bay prefer “Whites-only” parties, not because they are racist, God forbid, but because Sri Lankans (who unfortunately are brown) aren’t citizens of Israel.

However, “[s]ome elements within the Ashkenazi Israeli Jewish population have also been described as holding discriminatory attitudes towards fellow Jews of other backgrounds, including against Ethiopian Jews, Indian Jews, Mizrahi Jews, Sephardi Jews, etc. (Wikipedia). But no discrimination at the state level.
Wikipedia also says, “[there is] racism on the part of Israeli Arabs against Israeli Jews.” This is similar to the situation in the US, where, while there is no systemic or institutional racism against blacks, there is racism at the individual level, including black racism against whites.

What you call “ethnic cleansing of Palestine” originally referred to the Nakba, which, as I said in an earlier comment, is a consquence of the Israeli-Arab wars brought on by Arab the invasion of Israel in 1948. If you extend this to the occupied West Bank, then first remember that Israel seized the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, when the latter came to the aid of the Egyptians during the Six Day War in 1967, and that there were no illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank before that.

Hello Leonard,
Ready for some more “malle pol”?
“The Oslo II Accord of 1995 divided the West Bank into three zones: Area A under full Palestinian control, Area B under Palestinian civil and administrative control and Israeli security control, and Area C under full Israeli civil, administrative, and security control”.
“Israeli authorities have built seven illegal settlement outposts inside Area B of the West Bank, which is supposed to be under the Palestinian Authority’s administrative control, an Israeli rights group said on Sunday”. https://www.aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/israel-built-7-illegal-settlements-in-palestinian-controlled-area-b-of-west-bank-israeli-group/3431891
Of course there were no “illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank” before 1967 as it belonged to Jordan.
“International law unequivocally prohibits the establishment of settlements by an occupying power in occupied territories. This prohibition stems from the Fourth Geneva Convention, specifically Article 49, which explicitly forbids the transfer of the occupying power’s population into the occupied territory”

Thanks for the malle pol. You promised it and you did deliver. Now I like a man who keeps his word.
I quite aware of all that you stated and I, too, called the Israeli settlements “illegal.” Though Israel doesn’t recognize and accept the international conventions/resolutions relating to this matter, some of the illegal settlements, I understand, are illegal even according to Israeli law. My point is this:
1. The UN partitioned Palestine and Israel accepted. The Arabs rejected the plan and attacked Israel, and what is called the Nakbar–however you analyse it–was a consequence.
2. Jordan attacked Israel during the 1967 war and lost the West Bank and East Jerusalem to Israel as a result.
3. Hamas, who were given a de facto state when Israel fully withdrew from Gaza (not even leaving the bones of dead Israelis in cemeteries) in 2007, launched an unprovoked attack against Israel in Oct 2023 , which has left Gaza in ruins.

What is the common factor? Figure out for yourself. Have you never heard the saying, “You made your bed, now lie down in it”? In the case of the ongoing Israel-Gaza war, Hamas can still put an end to this tragedy by releasing the remaining hostages and surrendering unconditionally–the point of my original comment.
If you think the “oppressed” have the right to resist, remember terrorist attacks are also illegal according to international law–Hamas is, of course, was an internationally proscribed terror organization even before Oct 2023.

Hello Leonard,
“You made your bed, now lie down in it”. If you hadn’t noticed the Gazan Children did not make their beds, the Israelis are massacring them in their beds. It is quite obvious to many people, that the current Bombing of Gaza City is a prelude to forcing the population out of Gaza.
Ben Gvir has consistently called for the re-population of Gaza by Israel. Now he is taunting the Palestinians, many held without charge in Israeli Jails, with pictures of flattened houses in Gaza.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/ben-gvir-hangs-pictures-ruined-035509437.html
1 year ago in response to Champa “I said on November 26th [2023] “Israel wants the complete destruction of Gaza and Hamas and the population to be either killed or forced out in a second Nakba. In parallel they are harassing the West Bank to push them into declaring another Intafada – which will give Israel the excuse to start another war against the Palestinians and clear the West Bank for the Israeli Settlers to take over completely”
They don’t even need an “Intifada” they are going ahead with the Settlements, ignoring any International condemnation.

LS,
1. Why some Christian individuals/groups advocate for the release of hostages held by Hamas
Many Christians, especially in the West, express concern for the hostages because:
They see hostage-taking as morally wrong, regardless of who does it.
They may identify with Israel or Israeli civilians due to religious, political, or cultural ties.
Some evangelical Christians believe in theological interpretations (like Christian Zionism) that view the state of Israel as playing a role in biblical prophecy.
2. At the same time, why do some of these same people justify or ignore Israel’s actions in Gaza or the West Bank?
This can be due to:
Religious beliefs: Some evangelicals see Israel as “God’s chosen nation,” and believe its survival or dominance is part of God’s plan. Our examples: CT Ramona, Pissu DTG and Leonard or the like……
–
Media narratives: Western media often presents a one-sided narrative that emphasizes Israeli suffering while minimizing Palestinian suffering.
Political alignment: Many conservative Christians align with political movements that support Israel unconditionally, often due to shared values or mutual opposition to groups like Hamas.
Dehumanization or bias: There can be unconscious bias or even racism that makes people more empathetic to Israeli victims than to Palestinian ones.
–
Tbc
/
leelagemalli / August 21, 2025
cont.
3. Why this seems contradictory
We’re pointing out a real and painful contradiction:
Calling for the humane treatment of Israeli civilians, while justifying or ignoring the killing of Palestinian civilians, especially children, is morally inconsistent.
If one claims to follow Christian teachings like “Love your neighbor”, “Blessed are the peacemakers”, or “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, then that standard should apply to all people — Israelis and Palestinians alike.
4. Not all Christians are like this
It’s important to recognize:
Many Christians around the world — including in Palestine — oppose both terrorism and state violence.
–
Christian peace groups (like Quakers, Mennonites, and many progressive churches) have condemned violence on both sides and advocate for justice, peace, and the end of the occupation.
–
It’s legitimate to question hypocrisy and double standards — especially when innocent lives are at stake. Compassion should not be selective. If someone truly follows a faith rooted in love, justice, and peace, those values should apply universally.

Whose fault is it in the first place that this happens? Hamas are hiding among civilians–have you ever seen Hamas soldiers in uniform coming forward and confronting Israeli soldiers?–and civilian casualties are inevitable. Hamas and also the Gazans in general (who were taught to hate the Israelis in their mosques and schools from their births) are responsible for this 100% just as when a parent driving a car at a reckless speed and has a crash resulting in the deaths of any children in it is responsible for their deaths.
I don’t believe–and I don’t think you either–the Israelis (except perhaps some fringe elements in Israeli society) are delighted at the deaths of Gazan children–they know it’s actually bad press for them–so they can’t be causing these deaths intentionally and unnecessarily.

Hello Leonard,
“Whose fault is it in the first place that this happens? ” So you admit that it happened/is happening?
Said the man who is arrested for beating his wife “she made me do it”.
The country that drops the Bombs on the Children is responsible for their deaths, and the Country that supplied the Bombs is complicit.
Israelis do intentionally kill children. Listen to this British Surgeon on Drones killing Children that have been injured by bombs. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c7893vpy2gqo
I have worked in some of the most sophisticated Command & Control Centres and have seen how much information is available to the Drone Operators from both armed and unarmed Drones as well as Surveillance Towers. Each of the Operators screens (they usually have 3 or 4 screens) can be displayed Centrally on a huge Screen under Senior Officers Control. Here is an example – There were 16 Drones reported above the “Handala” 200 Nm from Gaza. https://www.instagram.com/p/DMi46kwodsK/
Do a little research on C4i and interfacing with Battlespace Systems to see how sophisticated they are nowadays. The Israelis are also being supplied Intelligence from the British Planes operating out of Cyprus flying over Gaza – https://www.ynetnews.com/article/hy8iitkoee

You are right, you know, but here’s what even you don’t know: Hamas from the beginning have been in a conspiracy with Israel to achieve all that by not releasing all the remaining hostages and surrendering unconditionally. They have a secret understanding with Israel but are publicly imposing conditions for the release of the hostages to fool the world, so that Israel has the excuse to proceed with their offensive. One of my Military Friends let me read his Father’s Diary from WW2. His Father was an Air Raid Warden in Clydebank. As a Shipbuilding Town it was a prime target of the Luftwaffe.
He had written a long description of the events on the nights/days of 13 and 14 March 1941. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clydebank_Blitz
By the time I came to the end of his description I had tears streaming down my cheeks. Over 1200 Civilians died over those 2 nights. He never forgave the Germans for what would be described as a War Crime nowadays.
In the early 70s, while I was at University, I used to visit some friends in Clydebank. Many areas were derelict, some still not rebuilt since the War and other showing the decline of Industry there.

Gaza is called an “open air prison” because of certain travel restrictions imposed by Israel in 2007 against Gazans travelling to the West Bank for SECURITY REASONS. Hamas, an internationally proscribed terror organization and committed to the destruction of Israel in their very Manifesto, won elections held in Gaza in 2007 and became the ruling power after eliminating their rivals. Are you aware that Egypt, too, has similar border restrictions against Gazans?

They are deliberately targeting journalists to stop the flow of information coming out of this genocide, and to silence others and make them fear the consequences if they do so. The genocidal military is also making sure that their war crimes and the expected slaughter of even more civilians, will not been seen Live over phones around the world.
“Targeted killing of journalists in Gaza sends chilling message
An Al Jazeera executive said Monday that it won’t back down from covering what is going on there and called for news organizations to step up and recruit more journalists. A total of 184 Palestinian journalists and media workers have been killed by Israel in the Gaza war since its start in October 2023, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. That compares to the 18 journalists and media workers killed so far in the Russia-Ukraine war, CPJ said.
Aside from rare guided tours, Israel has barred international media from covering the 22-month war in Gaza. News organizations instead rely largely on Palestinian Gaza residents and ingenuity to show the world what is happening there. Israel often questions the affiliations and biases of Palestinian journalists but doesn’t permit others in.”

Al Jazeera is a biased organisation. It has remained silent about murder and ethnic cleansing of Hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh by Muslims. Srilanka government also targeted Journalists to prevent news flowing out about genocide of Tamils. Why are you not blaming them.

Whataboutery…the article is about a genocidal nation deliberately killing journalists at this moment, and condemned by the international community. The crime is a Jewish nation killing Muslims and Christians. Therefore other conflicts are irrelevant to the article.

No one has the right to decide a journalist’s worth in death — their courage and commitment to truth speak for themselves. What about in sri lanka in which class they fall for the then Goverment have a and the people a say.

Why only journalists?
Nobody can then have the right to decide any other’s worth in death.
Any person is worth only the net good he/she has done to humanity.
