US-Israel War & Panicking Gulf Regimes

By Ameer Ali

Dr. Ameer Ali

“They have made their oaths a screen (for their misdeeds” (Al-Quran, 63:2)

“If (the West) shows its rigidity by making unjust decisions and putting their threats into practice, the Iranian people will not be the only ones to pay the price (Hashemi Rafsanjani).  There is no doubt that the war against Iran was started by Israel and got US dragged into it with pressure from the powerful Zionist lobby in Washington. Recently even Pete Hegseth the US Defence Secretary admitted that Iran posed no threat to US. Yet, the war has entered its second month, and Trump administration is desperately looking for a way out to get out of it with some dignity. Only a couple of weeks ago the megalomaniac President was crowing that he had won the war hands down, but his Secretary of State is now frantically running round trying to convince the world that the “military operation” would end in a few weeks and not months.  Then why send ground troops to the Middle East now? And why the preparation to capture Kharg island? Having failed to drag NATO into this war Trump is asking NATO countries to “go and get their own oil through the Strait of Hormuz”. Probably the war is destined to be a long, drawn-out affair fought without any specific objectives or agenda.

Right from the beginning the warring duo US and Israel grossly miscalculated and underestimated Iran’s capacity and determination to resist their combined aggression, and for its part and in response to the aggression Iran has escalated the war and converted it into a regional one as its leaders promised from the beginning. Neither the Iranian regime has collapsed as promised by Trump nor has the country exhausted its arsenal of weapons to fight. Its stock of missiles is continuously replenished with more advanced ones from Russia.  After closing the Strait of Hormuz Iran is setting its own terms for any negotiation. It was US that started the war, but it would be Iran which would decide when to end it. In short, Trump has jumped into the deep end of a pool without knowing how to swim out of it.

On a wider front however, whether Iran’s enemies choose peace or war the world is in for another period of stagflation and low economic growth. The oil-backed dollar economy of US is facing a historic crisis and Israel, according to an insider, is “cracking” from within, and so is Trump’s MAGA political movement. According to independent observers the war is now moving beyond the region and may change the global power dynamics to put an end to the post-World War II International Order. In a latest move, UK is sending troops to the Middle East to defend its interests after Iran fired missiles on Cyprus. It is a significant development after Trump’s criticism of NATO allies. In the meantime, China is gleefully watching from the sideline to see whether that change would finally transfer global leadership from the North to South.

However, within the regional theatre the six family or dynasty ruled Gulf states namely Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman, are caught in a state of panic to say the least. Their vassalage to US superpower in return for security guaranty against any domestic or foreign threat to their regimes has backfired and all US bases in the region have turned out to be a security liability. By targeting these bases and other US and Israeli facilities Iran is trying to make Gulf rulers realise that their countries cannot remain as platforms for Iran’s enemies and they are legitimate targets for Iranian drones and missiles. In this context it is absolute nonsense for Trump’s Secretary of State to claim that Iran’s nuclear preparation is directly aimed at the Gulf countries. On the contrary, Iran never threatened any of these regimes either militarily or otherwise until now.  Iran’s uranium enrichment program and its potential for developing a nuclear arsenal are a legitimate response to Israel which already has those weapons and is aiming to destroy Iran with US assistance to clear the way for Greater Israel to emerge as the superpower in the Middle East.

The Gulf regimes, at least since the 1979 Iranian revolution, are living with a mortal fear that Iranian nationalism and Iran’s post-revolutionary governments’ unflinching support for the freedom struggle of Palestinians would become a potential threat to the durability of ruling Gulf dynasties. That revolution which ended the Shah’s tyranny and got rid of its US ally’s interference in Iranian affairs sparked a religious-cum-political awakening all around the Muslim world and particularly in the Gulf region created a fear among Gulf rulers that the awakening may lead to similar changes in that region as well. It was that fear which drove these regimes to tighten their relations with US and to surrender their security and defence needs at the feet of Washington. In an attempt at immunising their subjects from the Iranian revolutionary virus the historic Shia-Sunni sectarian split was utilised to the maximum. It is that same virus which once again appears to threaten these regimes and hence their panic. The fear that Iran with members of its axis of resistance, which according to a latest report would include even the Chechens if US ground troops were to enter Iranian territory, may be the ultimate winner in this war has collectively driven the Gulf rulers to support US-Israel attack on Iran.  Among these states, Saudi Arabia in particular stands to gain if Iran’s oil resources were to be crippled or destroyed.  Self-interest drives Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman to back Trump’s war. At the same time, Trump is also capitalising on Arab desperation by demanding the Arab regimes to compensate financially the cost incurred so far in this aimless war. It is time that Arab leaders realise that their natural allies are in Global South and their current honeymoon with US is driven more by the need to preserve dynastic rule than out of popular choice.

After Trump’s 2015 Abraham Accord almost all these regimes are in bed with Israel and their commitment to an independent Palestine state is only a “screen” as the Quranic quote on hypocrites (munafiqun) implies.  The only country that is fighting for Palestine is Iran and that is why Israel is determined to destroy it even if nuclear weapons were to be employed. Israel bombs and destroys indiscriminately any structure and facility in Iran including schools, hospitals, universities, medical research centres and so on. Trump is doing the same.  In case Iran loses this war, which is highly unlikely, and if Israel is allowed to continue its planned annexation of the West Bank, Gaza and Southern Lebanon up to the Litany River, there is nothing to stop the Gulf countries becoming vassal states of Greater Israel. The ball is in their court.

      Nimal,
One can always tell when it’s a real human giving an opinion. So much more refreshing than a monotonous AI-generated fake.
BTW, our resident one-@ has predicted the extinction of Iran yet again, down below.

        OC,

I’m almost thinking that ol’ Adolf had a point! ……. but that’s not a path I would want to go down ………

The Jews have caused as much misery to others deemed “lesser humans” …… even Jews of color are mistreated in Israel.

In all American (also Israel) wars, there’s only a body-count for themselves: not for others.

Americans are evil …… it doesn’t mean others are any better. …….Lankans are evil ….. Rajapakses are evil …… what do you think Ranil is? :))) ………. Generally most humans are evil. It’s not a moral-code that keeps them away from evil but the fear of retribution …. so much for “civilized” …………

      Hello Nimal,
It’s not often that I find myself in full agreement with a Presbyterian Minister, however I totally agree with what Chris Hedges says in your Link.
He puts Israeli and American Apartheid (and the Gaza Genocide) into its Historical Context.
His book “American Fascists” is well worth reading.
Remember he is a Christian and has chosen this as his “Foreword” –

        “Presbyterian Minister”

AI ……. “Yes, Presbyterianism originated in Scotland
as the Scottish version of Reformed Calvinist theology, officially established in 1560.”

        LS,

I was curious why you picked on that. :))

When they were very young my kids went to a Presbyterian school. The school had a strange atmosphere, they thought they were a cut above the rest …… snooty and arrogant, put on airs …… never could figure out why.

In contrast ……. Methodists are more down to earth. Been to their main place in North Carolina. Also Mormons’ in Salt Lake. People have all fake painted on smiles: a bloody pain. My wife wants to visit all these places and tall towers in the world ….. in Toronto the damn thing was closed for repair …… I was thanking my lucky stars.

It’s just not OC who has trouble with his Ramona! :)))

          Hello Nimal,
Even as young Schoolchildren we knew the satirical song about the the Presbyterian Cat that killed a Mouse on the Sabbath and was subsequently executed😢. –
          http://messybeast.com/old-seceder-cat.htm
The Covenanters were also Presbyterian and fought against the idea that the King was head of the Church. It was a fascinating (and bloody) period of Scottish History. Read about Archibald Johnston (a leading Presbyterian) of Warriston and his Role in the Civil War.
Our “Whig” School History Books were full of Vitriol regarding the Episcopalians.
On another note the Burj Khalifa is impressive but I wouldn’t advise going there for a while. The view of Paris from the Eiffel Tower is incredible. I was at the top with a Colleague one March, when the snow came on suddenly and Paris disappeared.

Done them both but not of my own free will! :)))

Burj Khalifa is soulless. Eiffel Tower has some character but you get the same view or better coming in to land in Paris.

I’ve done them all PETRONAS and the rest ……. even most unknown little ones ….. except Nelum Kuluna. I was only able to avoid only one or two feigning dizziness. There was one in Shanghai with a glass bottom, terrifying …….

Thanks for the info about the Presbyterians ……. shall read …… I know nothing/very-little.

If Iran comes out as the next world power, as it well might, it will be the doing of the two prize donkeys in Tel Aviv and Washington.
But there are inklings of dissension at the top in Washington.

          Hello Nimal/OC,
His first mistake – Venezuela has more Oil than Iran. That’s why the US kidnapped Maduro. He is right about NATO, however, I visited the old NATO Base JHQ Rheindahlen (Joint Headquarters Rheindahlen) and saw how much the US was in control. Look at it now – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjT4Lj-9hBI
One of my Relatives lived in Devonshire Avenue, mentioned in the Video.
If the Europeans take back Ramstein Air Base and the others, they may be able to build a European Equivalent to NATO. Will the UK join?
Finally what Robert Pape didn’t mention was Nuclear Armed Israel and what they will do to counter Iran.

If the US loses this war, not only will Iran emerge as a dominant power, but a sophisticated nuclear power . That’s why Israel is relentless. But as I predicted, this may well end with Israel using a nuclear weapon, in which case Islamic Iran will cease to exist.

      Lester,
      You are right.
POTUS’s statements in the past 24 hrs indicate ‘reducing Iran to stone age’ & ‘Israel following whatever he says’.
A nuclear weapon on Iran by the War Crims in Israel is an extremely high possibility.
This will lead to WW3 with the GCCC and Muslim Nations in the world rising together against US/Israeli imperialism.
Lester, it’s far from over; we are in for tough times with the US Leader showing clear signs of multiple medical defects, including dementia and after stroke.
He does not know what he is saying; he forgets what he said a few hours ago.
I wish US lawmakers would step in and declare this guy unfit to be POTUS.

        Roxie,

Trump is following whatever Israel says; the Jewish billionaires donated a lot of money to his election campaign.

Israel’s defense; it was primarily Iran that organized the attacks of 7th Oct. Having eliminated most of the Hamas capability, the two remaining objectives would be go to after Hezbollah and Iran. Both of these goals are difficult, since Hezbollah and Iran have extensive experience in guerilla warfare, going back to the Syrian conflict (Hezbollah also fought Israel in Lebanon).

The alternative might be to let Iran go nuclear, while at the same time providing a “nuclear umbrella” for the GCC. Unlike Iran, these countries lack the IQ level to build their own nuclear weapon, so they would either buy one from Pakistan or the US would provide the umbrella.

But if you let Iran go free, the (significant) threat to Israel from Hezbollah remains. Iran/Russia are sharing ballistic missile technology; so at some point Iran will arm Hezbollah with very potent missiles, beyond the purview of Iron Dome.

Best outcome: Trump backs down, Israel backs down (with security guarantees from Iran), Iran/Oman retain control of the Strait of Hormuz, GCC countries like KSA invest heavily in nuclear weapons.

Unrelated but there is a “reading level” on wordcounter.net.

The only thing the Reading Level tries to do is give an indicator of the education level a person would need to have in order to understand the words you’re using in your writing

Apparently, the “Reading Level” required to understand my posts is “college graduate.”

On the other hand, the “Reading Level” of “chiv” is 7th-8th grade. Check for yourself:

So the jokers who are thumbing down my posts (79 IQ = bliss?) are definitely not college graduates. They may not have even finished primary school. Who says AI is dumb?

            auldcodger2,
According to psychologists, if you have suffered significant losses in your life, you are more likely to become cynical. The character can be noticed in Lester who has always attacked others, using his and her male, female (Deepthi), and eunach avatars to anyone in the forum, simply to stand out with his ridiculous opinions.
This vicoius individual frequently displays this behavior, and as long as ADMINS are aware of it, we must endure. At the same time, I believe he is attempting to restore old destructive forces to power so that his type of cheap folks can continue to benefit for a few years. These individuals are genuine creatures disguised as humans, and they are frequently employed by corrupt politicians.

            cont.

            cont.
            .
I also observed a similar tendency in the late Dr. Nalida De Silva, who promoted Sinhala nationalism during Rajapaksa’s tenure. In any case, he appeared to believe that the Sinhala race was superior to all others in the world. This view may also reflect an overestimation of one’s own group, similar to what is described in psychology as the Dunning–Kruger effect. It was widely embraced by the youth, and as a result, Sinhala nationalism grew stronger.

In the southern regions, many young people would kneel before others, including individuals of questionable character, such as drug dealers and known criminals. I personally witnessed this during my visits to families in Sri Lanka. I found it excessive, and I believe that young people should not have been guided in this way by their elders.

However, this kneeling culture is still widely practiced in that part of Sri Lanka.

Things are in disarray in the US. Trump has just fired his Attorney General, more like his personal fixer who follows his vindictive orders, and a top military officer has been also fired in the middle of a war. They are flailing and failing. Hegseth is just a swaggering realty show host, who has turned every speech into a religious crusade, and with clowns running this show, and being taken aback by the strategic response by Iran, America and its war mongering ally have been shocked and awed. Iran did not fall in a few days as they rather stupidly thought, the government and military still active.
“The Israeli dream of a deindustrialized and supine Iran is a chimera. The Israeli elite has grown megalomaniacal because of knee jerk American support, but Iran is the meal they won’t be able to digest. They think they can just start back up the bombing when Iran attempts to build back, but the world is not going to put up with a repeated Israeli tax on gasoline and fossil gas, the prices of which will spike every time Israel starts bombing Iran again. Iranians have tens of thousands of drones that can close the Strait of Hormuz and sabotage oil facilities and ships. Netanyahu doesn’t realize yet that he has been outmaneuvered, and still dreams of an Israeli superpower in the region.

“ end to the post-World War II International Order”
The END to the current post-WWII international order will come only if the petroleum products are sold in different countries currencies and not SOLELY on the US$. Iran and India can trade in the Indian Rupees for buying oil. Chinese in Yuan.
Any challenges to the trading of oil other than US $ , the US war machine is activated promptly!
Gaddafi was ruling his government to the benefit of its citizens. The west brought it down.
The dictatorship in most middle eastern countries are dependent on US protection. No talk of bringing democracy for these countries. Egypt had a democratic government which was overthrown by the Israeli + US!

If Iran’s religious extremism wins this war Iran may become a competitive power not only for USA but also China and Russia. China and Russia super powers without religious extremism unlike Iran and Other Muslim Countries and Muslim people. Muslim Countries and Muslim people are ruled by Islamic principles where women are slaves.
Religious extremism is very dangerous for humanity and even the so called western world may go back to Christian extremism.

“According to independent observers the war is now moving beyond the region and may change the global power dynamics to put an end to the post-World War II International Order.”
Our independent observers have forgotten that the last of the “post-World War II International Order” went away with the collapse of the Soviet Union to yield to a US-dominated global order.
That was soon challenged and what we see is the collapse of that order.

The global order will remain in the hands of the US indefinitely. No one (except Iran) is running to put their money in Chinese banks. Wealthy Chinese prefer to keep their money in US assets.
