“Those who are oppressed must realize that their liberation will not be given to them, it must be seized through collective effort” (Frantz Fanon)
October 7, 2023, was a memorable day in the bloody struggle for Palestinian freedom from more than half a century of Israeli apartheid terror and destruction intending to make an independent future state of Palestine an impossibility. Hamas – a Palestinian Islamic movement founded in 1987 but nurtured and funded by Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud Party to check the increasing popularity of Mahmoud Abbas’ Palestinian National Authority – became the elected representative of Gazans since 2007 and realised that Israel’s apartheid oppression in Gaza must be stopped and that there was no possibility of achieving an independent Palestinian state under the so-called Oslo Accords of 1990s which virtually created a “Bantustan”. It was that realisation which provoked the bloody response on 7 October 2023 when 5000 rockets according to Hamas but only 2500 according to Israel were fired and caught the Israeli military Intelligence by surprise. As the UN Secretary General Guterres said in 2003 Hamas attack “did not come from vacuum”.
What is happening now in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem by way of genocide, forced evacuation, desertification of land under cultivation and demolition of every building structure – all accomplished while the world pretends to sleep, is even worse than what Germany’s Hitler did to the Jewish people while other Western powers looked the other way. It is now clear that President Donlad Trump having declared his ceasefire in October 2025 and followed by creating his so-called Board of Peace has virtually given Israel carte blanche to do whatever it wishes. Since that ceasefire more than 1400 Palestinians had been killed in Gaza alone by Israel’s ground and aerial forces. The main reason for Trump’s reckless tolerance of Israel’s brutality is profit. He realises that there is money to be made from Palestinian blood. UN Repertoire Francisca Albanese exposed with evidence how hundreds of finance companies, armed manufacturers and commercial entities in US and Europe are profiting from Israeli illegal settlements in the West Bank and terror in Palestine. According to an updated account 158 of a total 214 such enterprises are headquartered in US.
However, after three bloody years of unchecked Israeli horror the struggle for an independent Palestine has become a humanitarian issue capturing the hearts and minds of millions of people both young and old and from every faith and country. More importantly, the Pro-Palestine movement is beginning to have its impact on the domestic politics of several Western countries. Israel in the words of Avigdor Liberman an Israeli politician has become “a pariah and a burden on the Western World”. This turn of events has made the Zionists and their Western allies to unleash a counter campaign through their corporate media to denigrate the Pro-Palestine movement as anti-Semitic backed by Muslim terrorist groups. To label pro-Palestine as anti-Semitic is factually wrong on two grounds. Firstly, how can support for Palestinian Arabs who are also children of a Semitic tribe be anti-Semitic? Secondly, anti-Semitism originated in Christian Europe where Christians hated the Jews for killing Christ, and they were forced to live in Ghettos. It was to counter this anti-Semitism Zionist nationalism was born which ultimately resulted in the creation of Israel. Pro-Palestine is not against the Jews but against Zionism which exhibits racism. Even Jews in several parts of the world are participating in Pro-Palestine rallies as happened in Berlin on the 10th of this month.
There is also another development in the politics of US and other capitals of Global North including Australia to counter the spread of anti-Zionism and growing support for a Palestinian state. Having mistakenly identified that it is the increasing population of Muslims and spread of Islam in the West which lie at the root of growing anti-Zionism and increase in Pro-Palestine activism the call for tough restriction on immigration is becoming louder. Once again, it was Donlad Trump who made this clear when commenting about the school unrest in France. When talking to his Truth Social platform he said: “what happens in France is nothing less than out of control mass migration”, and “this isn’t about schools; this is about Islam wanting to take over a once great country”. Islamophobia has been shrewdly included with an anti-immigration policy which in practice would translate into restricting Muslim immigrants. This is becoming a hot election issue in the so-called Western democracies.
Thus, three years after the violent response from Hamas against Israel’s apartheid and terror over Gaza, the issue of an independent Palestine has been turned into a battle between anti-Zionism led by the pro-Palestine movement and Islamophobia injected into Western politics by the Zionists. In this battle, Global North, driven by its financial and commercial entities and weapon manufacturers are colluding with Israel to wipeout Palestine itself from the world map. So long as the Arab world remain divided and subservient to US and its Western allies the heroic stand of Iran with its non-state armed groups alone cannot halt this unfortunate eventuality. It was not without a purpose that in 1945 when Israel was created the British dominated UN left its territorial boundaries undefined.
