AG And Austin Save UNP-SLFP Marriage

Colombo Telegraph learns that Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya and the President’s Secretary Austin Fernando had worked tirelessly to save the union between the United National Party (UNP) and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), their efforts helping avert a serious governance crisis following the rout of both parties at the local government elections.

Austin

Jayantha

Civil society activists, in particular Prof Jayadeva Uyangoda and Jayantha Dhanapala, had also exerted a lot of pressure to prevent the union from falling apart. They are said to have explained to President Sirisena that the Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, cannot be removed as per constitutional provisions.

These efforts have complemented the intervention of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya who too had met the estranged President and Premier to help them resolve their differences and avert a political crisis.

Both parties since stated that the unity-arrangement is still intact. A cabinet reshuffle is to be announced later today.

It is not clear whether things would proceed smoothly and if so for how long given the acrimony between the UNP and SLFP that surfaced immediately following the election debacle. Colombo Telegraph was unsuccessful in obtaining comments from the Prime Minister, several calls having gone unanswered.

At least being aware that SLPP – the criminals would ruin the country, the officials concerned should make it a point to deliver justice without fail during the coming 2 years. Correct the mistakes.

Why on earth this country legality allows the kind of culprits to spread misleading information ?
Dont they have guidelines at all in ther line of ones that abuse the media laws ? Media freedom should be there, but former president as a person who should know it better than any of his rogue clan, should not have misled people by adding just evasive information to the folks.
Why is that nothing seem to work in the line of law and order ? If any former presidents reacted that way in Europe or any other developed world, he or she should have faced strick law bound punishment.

Sirasa has become no second to Derana Sender today. I thought Sirasa would have been reacting resprenting the voice of the common man.
Last night I heard them telecasting, even Wijedasa Rajapakshe can be the next minister of justice when looking at the manner how the current ruling men act.
Just spreading only negative thoughts about the current men – what they want to achieve is to send message of anxieties to the nation.
I really dont know why own people attack on own ones this way, ifw e all want criminals to be caught by every means.
Be them from ruling or former thugs dont matter, our focus regardless of our being biased, we should all go for getting the criminals cornered from lanken soils.

Srilankens average mind set is captured by extremists thought bearers than we ever thought before.
That is how “bud part” – SLPP was given the highest mandate in recent local polls.
That means ground level people have been the source for devious politicians if they to continue with their agendas.
In EUrope few hundreds of migrant-turn citzen voters cause to make changes appointing their regional ones, while our god punished nation let abused and manipulated by thugs and alleged high criminals to change their voter attitudes.
Latter has been the case from the day one in SL, either sympathy or abusive slogans that have been spread by filthy mouths of Wimal Thakkadiya buruwasne and Udaya Gonthadipila or the like.
They are also srilankens. Do they at all feel the pulse of average mind set of the country ? people want a better future… if that to be achieved by voting idiotic men of Rajapakshe nature ?
Lately, opposition leader articulated it as no other, if Reelam to come, it can only be possible through the narrowminded politics being played by Rajapakshe.
Rajapakshe is the devil of the nation. He has all qualities similar to an yother highly abusive men like Gadafi or the like… they all took the poor people as human shields to stay in power or return to power.
May all curse be worked on the bugger et al and so that we can have a better future in this country considering that we are all the same regardless of our race religion or whatever.

The ancient Romans used to have a saying, ‘Hannibal is at the gates,’ which was used to imply doom and destruction.

I think it would be accurate to say ‘The Rajapaksa’s are at the gate.’

        sach,
Of course, Tamils and Muslims are against SLPP because they are against and Tamils and Muslims. It is the Muslim politicians helped Mahinda to change the 18th amendment of the constitution. It is the SLPP who massacred those Muslims in the South after the end of war.
SLPP consists only those who speak loudly about LTTE, Tamils and Muslims to get the Sinhalese votes but in truth they were funded by LTTE. Basil knows how much money he got from senior LTTE members to escape from the country after the end of war. Mahinda knows how much money he paid to LTTE to become president in 2005. Gotapaya knows how much money he paid to Karuna & KP pathmanathan who are main terrorists who massacred hundreds of Sinhalese military and Muslims. Even now Mahinda will grant maximum devolution (Federal) to Tamil & Muslim members if they support him to come to power. He is the man who went to UN against Sinhalese military in 1989.

I wonder whether both worked tirelessly to save the union of UNP and SLFP implying in the long term interest of the entire country or the asses of the crooks in the government as well as in the sham JO and old regime?

These are two state officials who shouldn’t have involved themselves in party politics. Well since both men are Sinhala/Buddhists then its alright to intervene in the interest of Sinhala/Buddhist crooks.

      Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya

However, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Secretary General of UPFA Minister Mahinda Amaraweera stated that the agreement for the ‘national’ government still stands. The Prime Minister said the proposal for the ‘national’ government is a decision taken according to the Constitution and there is no reason to make it invalid. Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said the agreement with the UNP still exists and they are bound to function according to the MoU.

This exercise clearly demonstrates that Sirisena is a Gamarala, and shows his lack of common sense and intelligence.

Thank you for explaining to this ignorant President, the current situation, and as to what the general elections of August 2005 elected, and what the local elections did in 2018.

This is the price the country pays when low IQ Paras are elected as president. However, we all are grateful for displacing the crook Mahinda Rajapaksa, and stepping forward in 2015.

In the local elections, the choice was between the former crooks, current crooks and others.

What did the local elections tell us.? Sri Lankans with average IQ 79, love former crooks and current crooks.

At the end guys who were behind ‘Regime Change Project’ won. In spite of all the rhetoric President decided to work with ‘Royal Horu’ + ‘SLFP Horu’ (some who came through back door). Despite nearly three decades of experience in politics, I say President Sirisena is naïve. He was taken for a ride by Ranil through 19th Amendment. I am not sure whether he knew what was in the 19th Amendment. Only way out for him is to put all Bond Scam Horu behind bars including PM, if he has guts to do that. I do not think he has guts to do that. Probably, the decision to continue with National Government could be beneficial for SLPP. That could be the reason why President Rajapakse said he is not interested in becoming the PM at this point in time.

also, since you have horu in all parties, If Arjuna Mahendran cannot be labeled as a Hora until proven by a Court of Law (these were RW words) you shouldn’t call any other also Hora until proven. Yahapalan and JVP should stop blaming MR for every thing. They should realize ‘Mahinda Hora’ does not sell anymore. Hope they understand this and fins some selling statements for the balance period if time.

Hope he succeeds in becoming the Leader of the Opposition at least After the 2020 Elections assuming that the government takes No action to put him and his family out of Politics, for all their misdeeds before 2015. CT,
You should know better than to drag the AG into this. He is a public servant and cannot reply to political allegations. You are putting him at risk of mistreatment by a future govt, or worse, making him averse to giving opinions on legal matters.
He can advise the government if he is asked. What the govt makes of his advice is up to them.

The True Leader: Mr. President, you wanted the PM to be removed and you to be left in charge of the country? A man who sold the very people who helped him down the river, just on a whim and fancy?

Just compare your behavior with that of the PM. When you started washing dirty linen in public, what did the PM do? Did he retaliate even by just one word? No! That is what real self control is about. Something that every leader should have.

The Prime Minister cannot be removed, should not be removed and shall not be removed. Don’t even think of it even in the future. Leave it to the people of the country to decide.

Joke of the day with full of fluent bullsh… Anyways, sometimes we have to swallow our pride and be spectators.
The biggest losers are the JO. As it transpired now with various statements by JOkers, such as President offered the Speaker post (I wanted to laugh), Finance Minister post, they didn’t seek any meeting with the President but they were invited..blah blah blah…. it looks like they have swallowed a Maithree brand bait for the second time.
JO’s unconditional support to President after steering people from voting SLFP doesn’t sit well. They betrayed SLFP members who voted SLPP by offering President an unconditional support after their victory. I thought they were nuts. I wrote somewhere else asking MR to withdraw the offer.
I don’t know how could SLPP go back to people and tell them to vote against SLFP/President again. They have lost both ends and I think it happened according to a plan to discredit JO. Mahinda is now stranded. He has no ownership to SLPP as it is Basil’s and no ownership to SLFP as he is not the Chairman. SLPP is only a name and a name board. Those who voted them are either SLFP, NFF, MEP, PHU or Vasu’s and may be few other parties. In brief SLPP’s voter base is Mahinda’s internally displaced voters. I am not bothered about SLPP at all.
Now that the Unity government is intact after all the drama, Ranil may have given a high five to Maithree. Guys, JO, this is not the way how you should handle things with Yahapalanaya. They are experts in political chicanery. You should always weigh the options before jumping. I believe JO’s sudden decision to offer (un)conditional support to President to form a government came from Basil. That explains it.

      1

Anyways, Unity Government as it was is better than the proposed UNP government with 43 SLFP-MPP in it and JO supporting them while in the Opposition which didn’t materialize fortunately. What kind of a government is that? Totally abnormal. Even being a part of a UPFA government while in the Opposition is also wrong. JO who accused JVP/TNA being a part of the Government while in the Opposition offering the same role is unacceptable.
      .
Any country without a proper Opposition (who are not a part of the government like in SL – hilarious) is not healthy. It is the nadir of Parliamentary democracy. The Opposition should act like watchdogs which scrutinizes, criticizes, and corrects the Government if it acts like tyrants or misguided missiles.
      .
JO’s offer to be a part of the Government while in the Opposition is the biggest betrayal in Sri Lanka’s Parliamentary history. It is a shameless breach of the mandate given to them in 2015. Unforgivable. They should be either the Government or the Opposition, not in between.
      .
JO is supposed to be the the voice of the people who are opposed to traitorous Yahapalanaya government. Do I support this government? Hell NO. I support the Executive Presidency because I don’t want it to be abolished and make the country unstable. JO doesn’t represent people’s voice anymore. They work according to Basil’s personal agenda.
      .
In SL’s weirdest political arena where JO is failed, the President at least listen to people irrespective of party politics. He even listens to people who have alternative opinions. He even listens to people who vehemently criticize him. Weird but this is the truth.
      .
Hello JO, people want to know what you are for? JO is vulnerable. The traditional political equation in Sri Lanka is broken. We need a new political equation.

Very proud some patriots have got together and saved the nations dignity at a very critical juncture. Following the journey since independence it was a shear relief during the 2015 independence celebrations we had our major parties joined together to lead the nation putting all the differences away.

Even for people like me who is a “one nation and no separation/federalism” with “abolition of Presidential position and resorting to parlimentary and Prime Ministerial leadership” was a joy to see 2 rival parties come together to convey a message of unity with the minority party support. Just like Brexit I will accept peoples verdict in any future directions irrespective of my personal preferences/evaluations…however we need to ensure all parties understand the need/scope for trust building and inclusiveness as their concept/ ideology for all future planning of sustainable development for the nation. Even today there is more opportunities presented to our parties and leaders to show more corporative approach(amongst all the parties in Sri Lanka) and to have more discussions to bring clarity to our masses and to our well meaning politicians too on important issues such as constitutional changes in a productive way please.
As long as we are clear and is time lined very objectively/clearly for all to see and understand how we gone through this “constitution change process” to date then all who participated should be able tell the “pros and cons” without ambiguty even before this goes to the referendum where people can have further clarity as required without compromising national unity and vote confidently “yes” or “no”. The outcome should be respected and the state machinery should go into economical development/celebration of life mode in our country full heartedly too. We need to stop discussing Language/religious issues forever and focus on discussion on health/wealth and envoronment scientifically with all the lessons learned to date.

Regrettably the President – otherwise a nice man – has come off less than second best over the entire episode.

If he is willing to limit the grand speeches and walk his talk, then he has enough time to regain his lost respect and move on, with head held high once his term is over.

Above all he must show he respects international law and order and Justice. And all of that must apply to everyone, including the armed forces as well.

For a start he can have a small cabinet of the BEST ministers he can muster, never mind how many, from one side or the other.

Party politics, ethnicity and religion have RUINED this country. The earlier the powers that be realize this, the better it will be for the citizens.

“Regrettably the President – otherwise a nice man – has come off less than second best over the entire episode.”

The president on many occasions behaved as if he was the saviour of crooks, war criminals, …..

I don’t think I need to remind you of his record on protecting members of armed forces, clan and other crooks. He hold the armed forces and clan very close to his heart. He will never prosecute members of armed forces even if they raped his wife, son and daughter, because he openly stated they are war heroes and no one has the right to prosecute them. Full stop.

Shall we then appoint both Jayantha and Austin as President and PM? I prefer Austin as PM since he has some experience of giving flowers and a pistol to a LTTE terrorist. Jayantha also is suitable for the post since his way of “questioning” PM at the CB bond commission. Siri has proven that he’s replaceable by anyone since his duty is just doing nothing.

There is a sarcastic proverb in Sinhala, “Yuddeta nathi kaduwa kos kotonnada” (A sword untilized for combat, is it for chopping jack fruits?). Asked by journalists, was it necessary to refer the removal of PM to the supreme court for a decision, MR quipped that Sirisena is ignoring the fact he was an Executive President and has the powers to make his own decisions, and why should he refer to a Court? So yet again, Ranils rogue in rescue at the Bond Commission has come to mislead the President, further blunting his rusty sword. MS will go down in history as the most impotent president that we ever had, manipulated by his PM. I just wonder to what extent the President is complicity in stripping national assets.

True, problem is that H.E does not have knowledge of what is in documents. When there is pressure, he will do it and escape from situation. It will look suicidal to put his PM behind bars and be fodder for former rogues. H.E needs to do all his ambitious projects during the next 2 years as there is a strong move coming to save their lives and Prez. must put corruption behind bars even if he too needs go to leave legacy.

    Dear Eagle Eye,

    Agree with you absolutely.

We both comment a great deal – perhaps too much – but I can’t remember whether we usually plug the same line.

However, on this I have no disagreement whatsoever. Maithri may have done a very few things (appointing his brother to Telecom was the worst), but he is essentially a decent man – who must retire in 2020.

The guys who will sell our country even to the devil are all in the SLPP now. The main problem facing our country now is staving them off. And I agree that the Bond Horu must also be sent to jail.

Mr.Austin Fernando is a gentleman and the President.is fortunate in having him as an advisor and Secretary. But Austin Fernando should have given him a better & matching PM than RW.

There’s a world of difference in attitudes between these 2, in both political & private life.

Why only Bond scam Horu, what about other Murderers, criminals, fraudsters , who have amassed properties, and Billions of Dollars belonging to the people of our country. This is the curse and bane of our nation. Wonder if we are a degenerating race developing only undesirable traits. This is clearly manifested looking at the lives of majority of our politicians. As things are it is foolhardy to believe that the two leaders would bring these culprits to book. It would have been the greatest achievement if the two brokers got the two leaders to fulfil their promise they made to the people at the two Elections in 2014/15. Whatever is said and done the two leaders and their cohorts have won the day, and they will carry on as usual without batting an eyelid. This is what Yahapalana Horu too wanted.

The RW MS palanaya has a lot in common with a badly arranged marriage. The partners want different things from it. They dislike each other. I have known Austin Fernando for a long while and he is an honourable person, perhaps the last of the old Civil Service types. The President should listen to Austin and implement ideas from him, discuss issues and not depend on his “catchers”. The Attorney General is another person of good standing and these men. along with people like Jayantha Dhanapala etc should take a position where the President can come for advise.

May God lead and guide us all.

Whatever the time Austin or Prof Uyangoda spending with this person is only pouring water on a lotus leave hoping to wet it. All the water will roll out immediately.

My understanding is so far there is no paperwork on parties association is submitted in the parliament. There no in practical or in files there a National Unity government Exist. There is open day light robbery taking place in the name of 19A ministers number increments. There is only verbal expression were brought to parliament. There is no requirement exist, it seems, Speaker or Parliament Secretary General may to verify that claim. Apparently this parties’ unity is not filed with election Commission. As the Official Opposition (TNA) is a party (partner) of Unity Government, they will not take any action against this Unity Claim. So far I did not read in news that the Joint Comedy Club, which claims they are the opposition, rejecting this verbal agreement. I am not sure if any member of a party can give the consent for a unity government, on behalf of the party in the parliament. If a responsible member is authorized to submit the consent, the verification process of this will automatically fall on his/her shoulder. This means, at this time, SLFP is not in a position to consent to National Unity Government and a national Unity government cannot be formed with the consent of SLFP. The leadership second majority is for Joint Comedians, which is with Denesh. But Dinesh did not express the consent to Unity government. He has been opposing National Unity Government until LG election, after that He, Vasu, Old King and many others expressive rejected any interest for the Opposition Party leadership. Whatever the position he took, Dinesh has not stood up in the parliament and said as SLFP has only 35 votes, it is not SLFP, the consent for the National Unity government has to come from him.

Further complications are, as the Slap Party registration is not clear of whom it content, we do not know how this entanglement is being solved by Election Commission. Apparently there are many members in the parliament are being members in two Parties. The election Commission has to resolve this is matter. Any member can independently support as many parties on different, different issues as the way that one wanted, but may not represent to voters more than one party as a member or in the parliament.

The urgent need to save the democracy in the Island is (as no Lankaweyans Will act) one Colombo Diplomat has to file an action with Supreme Court that they have no government to deal with, it is Supreme Court has to declare the National Unity government is invalid and party has to form a government or election has to declared by Supreme Court appointing a care Taker Body.

But the political reality is that a lot of internal fighting must appear to occur in order to save the face from bad results at the hustings. The news which shock to reading of join promoted with UNP and SLFP political alliance by that Austin Fernando and Jayantha Jaysooriya . !!!@
Indeed both are govt. servants but their Salaries, bonus, transport entertainments , housing, rent, children educational expenses and other perks are incurred by Tax Payers money…. public funds.
I do not agreed that civil services officers are that publicly involved and committed on key policy decision of political activities are basically wrong.
They have no right to do so! They violated Republic Constitution deserved for certain punishment?
While key officers like Austin and Jayantha are of that decision making are set the very bad example to other subordination officer below them, result of that whole administration and management of that functions of state has come to standstill last 3 years 2015 January ?
This where our state administration has paralysis recently since 2015 January 8th of “Good Governances”.
The ours nation “rule of law” no longer functions by Attorney General has doing wrong in administration of Justice. Result of two officers actions that crated nation become lawless land!

Lesson One: If the lion is sleeping, don’t tease it and wake up.

There are news that the imbecile president has been convinced that Ranils’ brain functioning is better than his backstabbing so it’s better, at least for now, New King backing off from consulting the Supreme Court to remove Ranil.

He as completely wiped out SLFP. Without a facial transplant, SLFP is already dead on the hand of Ranil.
