Ampitiye Sumane’s Slap Fell On The Civility Of The Sinhala Buddhists!

By Lakmal Harischandra –

Lakmal Harischandra

Ampitiye Sumana, the well- known saffron clad thug from the East – rhymes aptly with Aggona Chandare and rightly so, in terms of their behavioural strength – rowdism and thuggery. These days, he is on the social media for having behaved like a street thug chasing out like a ruffian, a Christian pastor and his evangelical group, in scant regard to the rule of law. He was seen to slap another Christian preacher asking an innocent question from him while the law enforcement are looking helpless. Still, he is a cinema hero among many among his like-minded followers who will whistle at his antics, and compliment him for his rude and violent vitriolic behaviour towards other communities including spitting out raw filth, contrary to the dignity of his robe. The Police personnel are just spectators to his vile and criminal behaviour. Who has given him the authority to take the law into his hands and pass judgement? Where are the Mayanayakes of the Main Chapters speaking out against this unruly behaviour on the part of this Saffron thug, unbecoming of a Buddhist clergy, in contravention of the Vinaya Pitaka? When will the Sinhala Buddhists of Sri Lanka  take the likes of most respected Ven Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero and Ven Galkande Dhammananda Thero  as their role models of Buddhist way of living? Aboo-dhassa Kaaley- as it is said in Sinhala of these changing times to the worst!

Watch the video below:

If the pastor or any other person is commits a socially unacceptable act or even a crime, it should be left to the law enforcement and the arm of law to inquire into and act on the case. This trend of un-official policing by this rogue monk, is nothing new as there are many videos in the social media where he abuses Tamil speaking government officers and even Police in raw filth, in the presence of even ladies. This type of same behaviour happened some time ago in Trincomalee as well, when another monk abused a Tamil lady too and the Police did not take any action. As a community, it is incumbent upon all of us as Sinhala Buddhists to put a stop to this type of rogue monk behaviour as it undermines our faith and culture which reigned supreme for over 2500 years. Rather than basking on past glory, it is important that Sinhala Buddhists make the peaceful message of Buddhism relevant to the current times

These types of rogue sangha heroes have come out in numbers, after Gotabaya Rajapaksa (GR) swept to power in December, riding on the explosively emotive racist campaign, based on Sinhala Buddhist supremacism. This fever wasn’t new as it initially took wings during the tenure of office of his brother  Mahinda with many hate groups cashing on the triumphalism after the end of the war against the Tigers of the North. At that time, temples decorated their walls with pictures of the Rajapaksa brothers. Money flowed for radical Buddhist groups. BBS and its sister groups started off a well-orchestrated hate campaign against the Muslims who were living in harmony for over 1000 years with the Sinhalese. It subsided during the initial period of Yahapalana rule, only to rise from the phoenix to drive fear once again into the hearts of the Muslims during that period too. The tempo of anti-Muslim hate increased exponentially after the disastrous Easter Sunday. This hate wave of course worked to the advantage of GR and Pohottuwa, as the Saffron Brigade exploited it to stir a Sinhala Buddhist majoritarian consciousness among the Sinhala peasants to bring a ‘Sinhala Buddhist king’ to power, towards establishing a Sinhala Buddhist State, along the same lines Modi chose to create a Hindutva India.

Today, with (almost) a fully Sinhalized cabinet and a civil administration team, the whole State machinery is much active in this direction. Moves are afoot that National Anthem will only be sung in Sinhala. If true, this is a sad development  as it will once again further polarize the nation. As Colvin R De Silva said : one language- two nations and two languages- one nation. For some unknown reason , perhaps strategically until the Parliamentary elections,  there is a lull in all Muslim hate activities and program of action such as canards about sterilization through Wanda Pethi, brassieres, underwear and stories ‘Shafi’ tactics with regard  to making Sinhala Pregnant women infertile, have all been put on hold. Even Tamil extremist activities in the North such as commemoration of death of Tiger cadres and desecration of statues of Sinhala kings and Queens are not been given publicity. Hiru and Adha Derana are very selective of the news they carry! Any possible Sinhala Buddhist politician deemed as a threat to GR’s political destiny is being mercilessly subdued even leading to intra-conflicts within the Sangha community; Patali was one such victim.

Other saffron clad experts and thugs have also once again hit the streets of Sri Lanka. Ven Medatissa for example held a press conference recently about a booklet about sex education written by subject experts, alongside a monk who had charges of child abuse involving a samanera. These monks did not object to degeneration of morals by the TV stations through telecasting semi nude clad women dancing and Indian Teledramas. Saffron thugs like (Ven) Gnanasaras, Ittekandes and Dayaratnes, Ampitiye Sumanas and the likes (calling them as Venerable is an insult to Buddhism) are in an upbeat mood, assuming their past un-official policing roles, and in their own ways undertaking raids and pointing fingers. Some are announcing the dismantling their hate outfits, in the light of the accomplishment of their mission of forming a ‘Sinhala State’. These Devadhaththas are insulting and destroying the essence of the peaceful message of the Gauthama Buddha, which we hold in highest regard.

In Sri Lanka, it is shame that Sinhala people, who are the inheritors of the values of Theravada Buddhism, incited by some rogue radical monks, have entered an era of militant tribalism. Thereby they, and particularly their leaders, are betraying the Buddhist value of non-violence, let alone kindness and compassion. Many analysts cite changing socio-political trends for the radicalization of the Buddhist monks in Sri Lanka. While many monks uphold values of inclusivism, peace and non-violence, more radical groups became increasingly influential with the electoral victory of a Sinhala nationalist government in the 1950s. It attained a new high during Rajapaksa’s regime in Post-war Sri Lanka and ecstatic peak after the victory of GR. To find the underlying causes of this violence, one need only look at the changing position of the Buddhist clergy in Sri Lankan society. Over the last several decades, Sri Lanka’s traditional Buddhist leadership, composed of nearly 30,000 monks has become more fractured and more political. The dismantling of the Buddhist hierarchy coupled with a shortage of material resources encouraged many monks to embrace radicalism. There is no control of the young monks too by those in authority. Vinaya Pitaka is a non-starter. Monks tend to embrace a more radical message. The effect of this has been a general increase in both the radicalism and political activism advocated by monks. Controversies over the role of Buddhist monks in society have circled around their involvement in political parties.

Many hate groups such as BBS, Sinhala ravaya, Ravana Balaya and even Pohottuwa-linked, Abharayarama temple-based rogue Sangha groups and even communal parties such as  JHU and Pivithuru Hela Urumaya are internally divided and composed of monks seeking individual notoriety by appealing to the ethnic insecurities of their base. Their fodder today is anti-Muslim hate. These organizations are evidence of the extent to which the Buddhist religious economy has become a free market dominated by entrepreneurs whose fortunes are limited only by their radicalism and rhetorical skills. Faced with a resource deficit and the autonomy to preach as they please, Sri Lanka’s Buddhist clergy have both the means and the motive to promote radical anti-minority rhetoric. The island’s political environment will continue to reward such rhetoric as long as competition among Buddhist monks is encouraged by a “free market” approach to religious leadership. Alternatively, should political actors move to undo the fragmentation of the sangha, the competitive incentives so important for encouraging anti-minority violence could be curtailed.

Then, there is the case of raw impunity when Buddhist monks are involved in crimes or anti-social activities. There is widespread abuse of young saamaneras in temples by senior monks and when Ranjan Ramanayake revealed its depth, he was incarcerated by the Maha Sangha although it is a reality. Then we have the case of Ven. Gnanasara who was released after receiving Presidential pardon against all legal norms, after being in jail for contempt of court. The significance of Gnanasara’s recent exoneration is diminished only by the significance of his original arrest in June 2018, when, for a period of weeks, the island was fixated on the monk’s fate. From the capital city, Colombo, to the some of the island’s most remote towns, Buddhist monks and lay leaders held rallies and demonstrations, accusing the government of attacking Buddhism and trammelling on the sacred institution of the Buddhist monasticism. At one point, hundreds of saffron-robed monks turned one of Colombo’s busiest intersections into a traffic-stopping protest gathering. Support for Gnanasara merged with demands for law reform. Protestors also used the idea of a monk being forced to disrobe as evidence of a state-led legal campaign against monastic law, or Vinaya.

It is increasingly evident that it is this fallacious narrative of otherness that the BBS led Sinhalese Buddhist extremists seem to want to embed deeply within the majoritarian mentality. There is a dual impact that this seeks to achieve; a majoritarian mind-set of extremist Buddhists emboldens their rhetoric, which in turn seeks to weaken a community who would be beset by minoritarian (for want of a word) feelings of otherness. It is the failure of the governments to institutionalise law and order specially when the fences(Sangha) themselves are eating the crops, after the end of the war ,and is a damning indictment on the governments that the virulent rhetoric of the radical groups led by rogue monks have stooped to lowest levels, reflecting adversely on the peaceful religion of Buddhism. Coming to power of GR is now being taken by these divisive forces as an open licence to indulge in anti-minority activities as they deem fit and will. One of the worrying factors is that extremist organisations are seen to collaborate across borders.  Myanmar’s face of Buddhist terror Wirathu and BBS connections are well known.

There is a danger that the exclusivist and extremist narratives used by powerful forces such as Sinhala Buddhist radical groups and forces seeking to divide rather than unite people, could have serious long term implications for peace and order in Sri Lanka. Given the history of ethnic and terrorist violence, it is imperative that the government and community and religious leaders devise policy measures for countering religious agitation and militancy. Sinhala Buddhist extremism and radicalism cannot be an antidote or a countering force against Wahhabi extremism and radicalism. Both are equally detestable and should be rooted out.  A counter-narrative is needed to alleviate growing tensions between the Buddhists and other communities specially the Muslims in present times.  The State should get the leading Buddhist monks who are seen as having the authority, along with other religious leaders to provide narratives and counter-narratives to eliminate hate and bigotry as well as intolerance and mutual mistrust. In this mission, Ven Galkande Dhammananda Thero and the likes should be made to give lead to heal the wounds of war and violence and build bridges. This reverend monk rightly says that the Bhikkhu Order is wounded and should be treated first before treating the ‘hate’ disease of the masses.

Further, there is a need to prepare the Buddhist monks to face the emerging challenges effectively to promote peaceful co-existence. The objective of religious education should be broadened from an effort to inculcate particular religious’ values, to include the understanding of other religions and the promotion of respect for other faiths. However, repeated efforts of the State to reform Pirivena education have failed, leaving the monks with limited resources to attempt to deal with a rapidly changing world. A reform of Pirivena education that would provide monks with a more relevant base of knowledge and enable them to consider ethnic, sectarian and cultural diversity as an important part of national heritage is the need of the hour. It could contribute to better relations among the different faith groups in Sri Lanka.

Over the centuries, there have been tremendous changes to Buddhism. Indeed, change is one of the foundational principles in Buddhism: all is impermanent. Some changes are in concert with modernity, others are in reaction. Today, monks in Myanmar and Sri Lanka continue to interpret their religion different to what Gauthama taught and even fight violently presumably to ‘defend’ their religion and call their followers too to action – a far cry from the message of  Buddhism. It appears that the cycle of violence perhaps continues in this final stage of the cycle of time: the Kali Yuga, the Age of Destruction. The earlier we reverse this cycle, it is good for the image of the Sinhala people and the country at large.

That is called srilanka’s buddhism by 2020.
        .
All buddhists born to this religion down there are just followers.

They have no idea about the true teachings of the LORD buddha.
        .
Place given to BUDDHISM in the SOCIETY is being abused by FAKE monks, high criminals, rapists, child molesters and RAJAPAKshe share criminals.

Ironically, stupid followers, dont care anything but just follow, if they would have been asked to WORSHIP relics being brought by a reptile – (which is IMPOSSIBLE THOUGH through any means), they just get caught……. Not long ago, just few weeks passed, so called buddhists got caught by a BLANT lie, spread by CHIEF priest of Kelaniya Temple – just because the FAKE monk is said to have a Prof Title.
        .
Not even tribes led AFRICAN villages of the day, would fall that cheap on the tricks but sinhalaya do.

          Angered Sinhalaya,

          Yes.

          How did all that happen?

Initially, the Triple Gem was the Buddha, Dhamma and the Sangha-Bodhisattvas. Then the monks hijacked Buddhism, and replaced the Sanga with monks, and retained all the titles and honor given to the Bohdisattas, after Buddha .

When Buddhism was introduced to the land of Native Veddah Aethho, the Monk hegemony established themselves as the Sanga, and all the imbecile followers had to prostrate, it is still the tradition now, The imbeciles have to prostrate, and the police officers cannot apply the law even if they break the law.

Call Buddhism Double Gem , and say Monks are not needed for Buddhism.

This is all about what Monk hegemony and imbecile ignorance of the Para- Sinhala “Buddhists “, and the monks and politicians have a field day.

No wonder they say Sinhalaya Modaya.,

Buddhism we experienced in our childhood (in 70ties) has now turned out to be RACISM under the lead of RAJAPAKSHE terrorists. Rajapakshes should be made resposible for all the mess.
Today, general public are being represented by thugs as if all in this country are THUG supporters.
Now, the price hikes of day today food items, not a single word is as news alert in the air. How come?

ARE the two groups that ruin this nation, now and earlier. Former GOVT did all lot of good, but it was overshadowed by the direct Media MAFIA handled by RAJAPAKSHE goons.

Time has come monks to wear ” loin cloth” instead of ” sivuru” . Then only we can use them for the paddy fields as MAO did it in China.
No free food should be given to PINGUTHATHARAS for no reason.
People wake up and give your food and others to the destitute and children and the aged in need.
There are no good monks in SRILANKA… almost over 80% of today s monks are patta HORU, rapists., child molesters and mudalalis.
If you are insane only you need to offer to ALMs to the fake monks.

“Time has come monks to wear ” loin cloth” instead of ” sivuru” . Then only we can use them for the paddy fields as MAO did it in China.”

Ever since the monks replaced the original Bodhisattva-Sanga of the Triple Gem, with the Monks and called themselves Sanga, the Buddhists have been fooled, more so by Para-Sinhala Para-Buddhism. Those who were fooled continued to pay tonite to the imbecile monks by prostrating to them, and became imbeciles by induction, to a Para-Sinhala Para-“Buddhist” imbeciles.

All the imbeciles need to do is ignore the monks and stop prostrating. The results will be reformation and wonderful -the liberation from Monk hegemony.

The Chinese can help, just the way they did in Tibet.

        Mr Shankar,
this is not the first time this bugger monk behaved so. He is being promoted by low class sinhalese living out of the country (dubai, korea and italy) Most of those sinhalaya are housmaids, drivers or the like job holders though they bring foreign exchange to the country. Most of them, for some reasons are connected with Wimala weerawansa-racism.
UNP or any other democracy lovers and ones that expected world standards of human rights behaviours are far from these guest workers. They live under hard conditions in those middle east countries. Just becasue them being born buddhists, they know nothing but behave so emotionally, whenever any kind of anti-buddhist acts are being in the air. They dont care about the incidents being true or false, but join to stand against as was the case with recent riots inflicted on innocient muslims by MADHU MADAWA or Iraj (two artists but born rascals and racists).

Buddhists as i learnt it, as one coming from Dr Walpola rahula thero family circles, I know they would never want to harm others. Not a single word they would abuse to hurt others.

Today, Rajakashe-JATHIWADHI politics have misled and manipulated those LOW CLASS sinhalaya (but born buddhists) and made them eternally blind and deaf.
Rajalashes and Wimal weerawansa or the like politicians harvest it in order to surivive their political mantras. People are on the other hand are very stupid. They just believe anything…. but without any proper awareness.

Hey guys, who would tolerate a poisonous snake entering your backyard ?-

      Answer is nobody.

This bitch’s son of the nation, calling himself that he protected Madakalapuwa, but has been doing all other way around today.
      :
Alone his wording is so provocative and filled with sinhala filthy, gives him a better identity than any other bana talking. This man does not know how to keep his anger within the limits, if even lay people would react so, things for the society would change drastically towards all appalling levels. Those who could do somthing stay mum seeking vote advantages, but the bubble should explode LET alone today showing the and clearing the nation, no criminal nature could allow us anyone achieving any good thing.
      :
This woman in thevideo has been telling the truth, for sure. No mothers can sit with their sons, hearing MONK s KUNUHARUPA….. how dare the bugger monk, seems not seeing it but anything else…. he talks high but how long would the bugger be able to cheat the very same people and leaders ?
      :
We remember, how this bugger monk, demolished ” a name board” containing the name of former idiotic President Siirsena then, it was just getting angered not being able to tolerate as to why then president failed to turn up at his temple.
Who does he think he is – to be respected this much.. as if we saw a POISONOUS cobra .. we should beat this man and remove from human association….. if law and order would not work properly, there is no other option left than doing so.
We are buddhists but we have to protect real buddhist from the kind of FAKE monks.
He is said tohave provied the workers with GANJA….. that says everything about his nature. I have no doubt, this FAKE monk belong to long term jail sessions.

The list of FAKE monks in today’s spot light- OF COURSE apart from the monk in this article:

      2) Kelaniya incumbent chief priest, Panditha thero, who behaves as if he is no better to that kapurala who brought relics saga supporting rajakashes clans
      3) That homo monk – who had then an elephant calf in his own – is very known as pinguththaraya number one, but almost a toilet paper to MAHINDA ballige putha rajapakshe
4)Kotuwe hamudurwo – one another joker monk who keeps on pleasing low class guest workers in italy, middle east, and korea fo rhis own funds. THis monk is number one joker, bohoma pin pin… and do anything and everythign to please his diasphora because they fund his PROSTITUTION
5)Sangarama ballige putha MONK who would do anything to Rajakshes being back to power….. this monk is said tob e WANARACHARA and thugs by his deeds for such a long time
6)BBS lead and his groups of monks that would keep on molesting those childmonks but paint it as they protect lanken buddhism. These men should be JAILED for ever.
      7) Now with no police spokesman in police but SOME MONKS have become racal spokesman abusing their power being given in the country…. these men should be jailed for the sake of good buddhism in this country.

      -tobe continued

Isn’t insulting the Buddha an offense? What about hi jacking the Triple Gem? They deported the British tourist for tattoos of Buddha, and India did not mind that.

      Dear Ramona and Shankar,
      .
Do I detect a slight misinterpretation here?
      .
Shankar, I agree that this “pastor” didn’t literally turn his other cheek, but he was as passive as he possibly could be, and presented a pathetic figure that Ampitiye Sumana could certainly have struck again.
      .
I think that my friend RTF meant that in that sense he did present the other cheek , although not literally. Certainly, I felt very sorry for the poor man, and absoltute abhorrence for Sumana.
      .
I hope that neither of you would mind my saying this: a certain shallowness has crept into all religions. Gone is quiet meditation and serious contemplation. Most adherents of religions seem to demand passionate screaming – I mean especially the new Christian Evangelists. I’m sufficiently conscious of my own shortcomings not to suggest that these people are insincere, but there is this obsession with conversion. That possibly generates resentment, but of what value can Sumane’s thuggery be?
      .
Truly people like Gnansara and he have no understanding of the Dharma. There are good monks like Galkande Dhammananda. Something must be worked out to save the noble teaching of the Buddha from these thugs.
      .
My writing probably doesn’t sound convincing! That’s fine, because that merely reflects the helplessness that I feel.

The best solution was tie this Pastor, stay prepared to talk to them, to a tree and get information about how they burned churches and buddhist temples. Next time when such pastors come get him to a house and get all the information. If need cover the face and he does not the where abouts.
Conversion to Evangelist Church is paid employment. I heard, they reach even to Chinese tourists.
Who knows, it is possible that KUDU-Money goes to pay these people too.

Why cannot the Buddhists of Sri Lanka learn and follow the teachings of Buddha directly by reading the relevant books? Monks with good morals may offer their services in performing religious rituals at the Viharas, but why rely on them to impart the teachings of lord Buddha? Monk-hood is for those seeking enlightenment having renounced their egos, worldly bondage and other pleasures. Sri Lanka must be the only country in the world where Buddhist monks personify the opposite, they enjoy all the perks abusing the system at the expense of the poor and think that they above the law. One has to admire the Tibetan monks, they are worthy of respect!

This saffron clad thug has been busy for many years hurting every human being in this island and a few Buddhists who happen to watch his antics.

The problem is not the thug but:

Those who defend his thuggery in this forum
The state institution which is supposed to protect people has failed in its responsibilities.
The state as a whole failed to act.
The politicians who think they are the guardians of Sinhala/Buddhism hence the constitution (Chapter II) not only failed to bring these types of thugs to books but proud to have photo opportunities with them, Wijeydasa Rajapakse with this thug and Gota with Gnanasara.
Then the Mahasnghas who are supposed to be experts on every aspect of human life seem blind when their own saffron clad thugs misbehave.

Finally the responsibility lies with those people who publically support him in the name of say X, whatever that is.

          THANKS but
Do you just think those civilzed faculties could tame them ?

No.- I thought live out of the country, but as a frequently traveller to my home couintry, i have a clear knowledge about our people. Most of them dont care about anything today, as had been before 80ties. They dont have good values as had then been. Monks we learnt then were real gurus to the society. They were society builders and today#s monk are unfortunately breakers. Most of them rally round to gain vehicles and other facitlities from the politicians. Politicans abuse them to the very manner, temple living monks abuse their samanera monks. Like or not, believe or not, this is the ground reality. Most temple living monks are worst criminals today. I mean the majority. I fully stop offering them alms since last year.
          :
These men should be treated with harsh laws as is the case in the US, Germany, France and UK. Also, going by laws being exercised in Singapore. No room should be left for the kind of monks or lay people to abuse for their own fliths be spread.

Just that video sent by a mother of young children would be more than enoug to open the eyes of long slumbered authortities and politicians.

As our late REV god beloved SOBITH thero then predicted, the society is so rotten, as nothing can help them easily, so we need sociologists, psycho experts and the like professionals to rebuild this nation.

Gone were the days, our people respected VILLAGE LIVING GOOD HAMUDURUWOs and his prechings, today, interent openess has abused the society as a cancer which can NOT be easily healable. As the predatory animals get on with cadavas, rotten to all stinky levels, Mahinda Rjaakashes style poltiicians behave not seeking proper solutions for the people s problems.

These predators should equally be made responsible for the menace created in ths society today.

      Roshan,
please pass this video to anyone who have now been caught by bana preachings of the fake monk.
We should better provide monk with a man or a woman, so that he could finally get married and leave the IMAGE of lanken buddhism.
We have learnt in the school, – that a person can be judged by his behaviour……. these are the basics of buddhism as taught by lord buddha.
This FAKE man and others hidden behind SANGA constumes should be bomed down to leave peace in this country.
They just festate the wounds of the people. not allowing them to be healed off. Alone creating new forms of racial waves, pave way for the new kin dof conflicts. A country, a nation that fought long years of war and now being squezeeed by CHINESE debt traps, how can face the future, if these buggers together with Rajaakspkeh ballige puthas would not behave properly.
Mahinda Rajakshes seems not allowing his barbaric brother to react bold.
Barbaric brother would see it right because he had not been a traditional politician in this country.
TO the very same manner he visited RMV lately, GOTLER should visit those temples where his brother had then gathered to rabblerouse the nation.
This country would not change a lot, if this poisonous men in or wihtout robes punished accordingly
We need harder laws to tame these buggers and leave peace andharmony to this nation.

I see the return of the post 1956 Ape Anduwa syndrome in many thousand folds since May 2009. No Govt. including the present one is capable of restoring the rule of law and order unless the Buddhist Religious hierarchy steps in and drill the erring Monks in Robes to strictly follow the ethics of Buddhism in its finest form.

The top echelons of Buddhist Clergy should think of a way of disrobing the errant monks and subject them to be punished under ordinary laws of the land.

If the pious devotees of Buddhism in this country display their commonsense and compel the errant monks the need to respect, the teachings of Lord Buddha , other living beings and laws of natural justice this country.
Unless and until then, the people of this country can not face the world with pride. Even His Excellency cannot face the world with his head raised with monks in robes of this kind roaming around.

Now I ll bet you, before upcoming UNHR session, (scheduled to be held in March 2020) there will be lot more clashes GOVT created, will be seen next days. : Sarath WEERASEKARA the man who has spearheaded earlier Kandy and other riots against muslim srilankens, will do the job for GOTLER and MAHINDA executionists. People are toally caught by the cheap tricks being applied by them.
      :
People in this country would believe anything, without thinking twice that is their nature.
      :
Buddhist – outcover is always there to milead the nation. But not even 5 PRECEPTs are today known to many buddhists . They dont care about anything but being buddhists.
Buddhists including Rajakahses just follow jathaka kathas in order them to be able to surivive politically. They dont see it beyond …. see how many poor families now come to light, through SOCIAL media to have been living destitute levels. Some live on MANIOK and Maize….. while RAJAPKASHE .. spend millions of state funds for his DAY costs. I think if MAHINDA rajapakshe would have been kept away from politics, alone the costs that the state use for his maintanence could better be used for the poor … those are indeed in need.

Few ways to look.at angry people .
Either some are plain arrogant, insensitive and suffer from superiority complex. Some are bitter with life’s battles ,Some have been unfairly mistreated , some are very concerned people who have helplessly watched injustice and could not do anything to stop it. Some are brave to fight injustice but somehow do.not know to manage their rage , and with due respect to all human beings, some have anger management health issues too.
Here what I see is, this was a set up , knowing well the monk’s short temper. The question by a religous priest was sent to question about the monk’s belief and being sure the monk will react this way,it was videod ( mischief makers) if that pastor was sincere he could have arranged a private religous dialoge and discussed decently and also got the monk’s permission to record it
People stop becoming sheep to wolves.
Let it go, sit down and take a note book and start writing down the important stuff you need to do for you , your family and if possible anyone you know whom.you can help.

May God andvtye Dhama guide the entire Sri lankans

Only a minority of Muslims endorse Wahabism. Yet BBS treats all of the Muslims the same, ugly way.
    ..
Most Muslims have quietly rejected wahabism but scared to do so in public.
    ..
I believe most Budhists also reject the ugly behavior of some, so called monks. But they are scared to do so in public.
    ..
What’s the difference between the Buddhists and the Muslims?
    ..
Should we hide due to fear and call ourselves worthy of our nation and religion?

      Suranga,
as one who thought to give alms and bann ceremony holding to lanken type buddhist way of life, I am telling you….. yes many so called born buddhists but not buddhists by their reactions, would not commend the behaviour of the fake monk – but having said that not having done the due is the nature of such buddhists for the recent years. They just dont care but let it go. Can that ever help in rebuilding a better buddhist society ?-

IF WE SEE WEEDS THAT DAMAGE THE CULTIVATION, WE HAVE TO PROTECT IT FROM REMOVAL OF WEEDS RIGHT ? Like wise, we should remove these fake monks from the monkhoods by going prevailing law and order systems in the country. OR not ?

Why should we be compelled to hear his HIGH FILTHY SINHALA kunuharupa thorugh YOUTUBE videos? Not once several dozens of times sofar ?

There are good buddhists, there are also good hindus and muslims.. there are also good christians… but the worst kind of portions in every religions would go up, the danger before us the good and calm buddhists/human beings grows so that we cant tolerate them any more right ?

So what should be the CORRECTIVE action ?
      -#
Going by law and order, tame them regardless of their fake monkhood ? This should be clear to KINDERGARTEN going children right ?

If anyone would start with ” umbe ammata” should be bombed down so that the society could be maintained with values further. I think this FAKE MONK should be arrested NO EXCUSES can be allowed any more. Gone are the days, entire authorities allowed him …. thinking and expecting better outcome, but he has failed to deliver it. ‘

Poisonous man should be punished basta

        Simon De Silva,

The man asks the Ampitiya Sumanne Monk what happens when you die, and he gets a slap on his cheek. He does not know. Whatever the Monk knows is corrupt.

This kind of summarizes Para-Sinhala Para-“Buddhism “, that is a distortion of Buddhism and an insult to the Buddha and the Dhamna.

If Buddha is living, could have taken in front of him. Or could have taken in front of a Bohdisatta, the third of the Triple Gem. They all are dead and gone, extinct or not, except the Dhamma, but What is left are the saffron clad monks who stepped into the positions and titles of the Bohdisattas, and claimed all the privileges. So, the laymen, the imbeciles, prostrate to them, and like imbecile idiots, chant Sangam Saranam Gachhami.

What you see is the fallout from this tradition established by the monks for their hegemony.

Will the imbeciles wake up and realize that they have been taken for suckers by the monks? The low mean IQ of 79 seems to be an impediment.

This is the biggest coup of Para-Sinhala Para-“Buddhism”, and the imbeciles who prostate to these monks have not figured it out yet, why it is a distortion of Buddhism and is an insult to the Buddha.

This incident is an ugly one brought bad reputation to Buddhism and the country. It is sad to note that our country is fast becoming sensitive on religious intolerance which is a bad sign for the future of the country. All stake holders of all the religions of this country should adapt restrain when conducting their activities considering the volatile situation that prevails. They should carryout campaigns in a manner that would not provoke the sentiments of other religions. For God sake such campaigners should put on hold on their activities with immediate effect before matters go out of hands.

So what did happen to your law and order president? Don’t tell me a white van picked him up too.

“Sri Lanka’s latest president Gotabaya Rajapaksa vowed to lead the government based on “Buddhist philosophy” and paid tribute to his Sinhalese voters, as he took up the office of president in an overtly religious Buddhist ceremony in Anuradhapura today.
In his address, Rajapaksa pledged there would be “state sponsorship to safeguard the traditional heritage of the nation” and spoke once more of strengthening security across the island.”

Why are people mad at this yellow clad skinhead. This is the Buddhist way the man you elected promised and he is delivering.

The secret of the Stupidity of the Para-Sinhala Para-“Buddhists “ is the prostration to imbecile saffron clad monks believing that they are the Third Gem of the Triple Gem, the Sangha, distorting Buddhism and Insulting the Buddha.

The Sinhala Modayas all fell for the Monk trick, substituting the Sangha-Bodisattva with the Monks, and getting them to prostate to them.

Whilst I do not approve of any violence from a properly ordained Buddhist clergyman, I also DO NOT appreciate these so called pastors, who take advantage of poor people in these remote areas to proselytism by way of financial and other materialistic bribes.

All main faiths, including Buddhism, Hinduism, Catholicism, Anglicanism, Methodism, and other faiths are loosing their followers due to these unethical, material-driven agents of proselytism.

Whilst some of the Buddhist priests living in remote areas resort to barbaric action, I urge the more modern, and more civilized men of robes to to respond to this invasion of faith through more moderate yet effective means, be it Buddhits, Hindus , Anglicans, Catholics or any other faith.

These troublemakers from foreign countries should be denied Visas to come to Sri Lanka. This man looks like some Rapper from Brooklyn who has come to SL to create division amongst peacefully coexisting religions.

Yes, that is exactly what should happen. The UK often denies visas to extremists. They should also be prevented from sending money to any relatives in the country.

Amongst all the dramas going on right after The last Election, something interesting happened to me ,
I received a call from a stranger and probably from overseas, as it was displaying the word withheld .
The caller spoke in Sinhala, he had a strong massage to me , he said thambiyas should mind their own business , this is our Country, our rivers our sand and our quarry , everything is ours , if a tsunami happens we will deal with it and to cut it short,I was told that I should stop buttering the Sinhalese ( obe ge butter gane ekatte appe sinhala kolo awwanna. ( basic,, we Sinhalese will not be fooled by your cunningness) so I asked him are you bread for me to apply butter on you ? For this he lost his temper and came out with utter filth and dashed the phone
I could not complete what I wanted to say , actually bread is considered very sacred to many cultures and the last thing is to offer to regard hooligans of such ill nature as bread to be buttered, that is what I wanted to conclude to him , but unfortunately he lost his sanity .poor chap.

The author has seen fit to describe Ampitiye Sumana as the “well-known saffron clad thug”. Sadly, he is not the first of the species, merely the latest of a menacing brood which has been allowed to carry on in their disgraceful ways. Politicians, despite their pious protests of upholding the rights of every community in the island, have found it expedient to not act or speak up against them, but to actively seek their support in their search for votes and provide them with encouragement and patronage. And as long as that situation exists, the menace of saffron clad thugs will not go away. A video clip of the monk in action in Batticaloa shows the Police taking no action to stop his tirade, and I first asked myself why. Then, it occurred to me that the Police may have thought it prudent not to intervene lest they find themselves in trouble for doing so. And who can blame them? Remember the Rev Gnanasera from the BBS whom a court of law sentenced to a long term of imprisonment? But what use was the order of the court? Before the man had served even a year of his sentence, Maitripala Sirisena was to give him a Presidential Pardon!! What more encouragement do these thugs need? But myopic politicians must realise, that the conduct of these men does enormous damage to the good name of Buddhism and of the country. And those things matter.

If Buddha sent emissaries to Sri Lanka to convert Sri Lankans to Buddhism, why can’t Christian evangelists convert Buddhists to Christianity. If you are weak, you deserve to be converted.

Second, fear Buddhism from Buddhist monks not Christians. They are destroying Buddhism brick by brick. Ask the question – aren’t most of our politicians Buddhists who are destroying our country by bribery and corruptions and pretending they are good Buddhists and using Buddhism and racism to divide and rule.

Do you know an honest Buddhist politician?

Are you mentally challenged? do you not know even a bit of history of this country? how the churches attempted genocide against the Sinhalese and the tamils to convert them, or how they tried to uproot our culture during the time of the british, even during the 90’s when the elite class was christian english man and the armed forces were made of christians they attempted a coup to keep the Sinhala speaking Buddhist elites from replacing the christians. I don’t approve that this monk slapping that guy but, I do approve keeping these foreign christians out of our country who come here to convert only, because apparently what they do even during the tsunami was, go up to a thirsty and hungry kid in need and give him food only if he agrees to follow christ, if they say no they no help. Same thing they do in africa.

How much low can Buddhism in SL can get if thugs in robes are not condoned by the public, high ranking Buddhist clergy & the politicians, especially, the President & PM? As a Buddhist, I was appalled by the hatred spread by yobs like Gnanasara & I remember young thugs ordained as Buddhist monks going on rampage & assaulting the staff of muslim establishments a few years ago but since no serious action seem to have been taken by the law enforcement forces, violence instigated by thugs in robes have become accepted by the wider section of the public. At this rate, I wont be surprised if even murder by Buddhist monks is tolerated & even revered as heroes, not to mention a Buddhist ‘sharia’ law, policed by thugs in robes.
No one is above the law & nobody can take the law into their own hands. Many turned a blind eye to atrocities committed by the security forces relating them as ‘collateral’ damage during a conflict but when the same security people were involved in abductions, torture, rape & murder of civilians even outside the war zone, nobody spoke out, just like the average German citizens during the 2nd WW on Natzi terror. Have the Mahanayakas & politicians the guts to condemn this uncivilised & criminal behaviour & allow the law to take it’s course?
It seems the Buddhists in SL (apart from a few) are unaware of fundamental Buddhist teachings of compassion & tolerance. Religion is a personal faith & in a democratic country, everyone has the right to believe in some god, or not at all, but it is not something that can be forced upon & violence in the name of safeguarding a religion only alienates people further away. I am aware that several Buddhist monks, to their credit, have spoken out against prejudices & if I am not mistaken, a monk who spoke for the Muslim community was stripped & beaten up a few years ago.
