Another Attempt To Mislead The Muslim People Of Sri Lanka

By G.L. Peiris

Prof. G.L Peiris

Following the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s resounding victory at the local government elections, a rumor began circulating in the social media that the Bodu Bala Sena had made facebook posts in support of the SLPP. Then articles appeared in the newspapers quoting a letter written to the press by Mr. N.M. Ameen of the Muslim Council stating that SLPP cadres had allegedly harassed several Muslim individuals in Ugurassapitiya in Kandy and Veyangalla in Agalawatte for not supporting the SLPP. If any such incidents had occurred, they should be reported to the police and dealt with.

The public is well aware of the strategies that were orchestrated before the last presidential election to alienate the Muslim community from our leadership. The book written by prominent Jathika Hela Urumaya activist Asoka Abeygunawardana titled ‘Yuga Peraliya’ the first copy of which was formally presented to President Maithripala Sirisenaon 23 March 2015 has explained the strategies adopted to send the Muslim community en masse onto the other side before the last presidential election. Audio clips of the main conspirators discussing these strategies over the phone were subsequently circulated in the social media. We admit that our government was not decisive enough in dealing with this conspiracy.

Everyone will remember that as the yahapalana government rapidly declined in popularity in 2017, there was yet another spate of attacks on Muslim businesses and houses. Then a monk at thecentre of these incidents was granted bail three times in a single day and everything was swept under the carpet. Even though the yahapalana government appointed Presidential Commissions to look into matters like the renting of space in the Mahiyangana Pradeshiya Sabha shopping complex, they never appointed a Commission to look into the far more important issue of the Aluthgama incident, because all the perpetrators are now in the yahapalana government.

The Muslim community has now realized the deception that has been practiced on them, and the results of the local government election clearly reflects that. It is therefore not surprising that conspiratorial elements are once again at work. The public should be vigilant and not be misled a second time. The government should immediately establish a Commission of Inquiry into the Aluthgama incident, the incidents that led up to it, the sudden flare up of extremist activity in 2017 and the Gintota incident. In the meantime, the full severity of the law should be brought to bear on such incidents in the future.

With the concurrence of the party leaders’ committee of the Joint Opposition.

Professor G.L. Peiris, Chairman – Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna

“because all the perpetrators are now in the yahapalana government.”

It has become a habit now for politicians to publicly accuse thier ex-party members of wrongdoing AFTER they have crossed over to another party or alliance. We saw MR threatening to reveal the wrongdoings (files) of his own ministers if they were to support MS in 2015, we saw MS and co (Rajitha, Patali etc) talking about how corrupt the MR government is after being in that government for years. What kind of politics is this? Is this because they know how stupid and gullible SL voters are? I’m absolutely baffled that anyone can listen to the drivel SL politicians spout and still believe/support these hypocrites. Even a dog learns not to make the same mistakes when he gets kicked a few times but not Sri Lankan voters…how sad.

      GL,

It doesn’t matter who is on/in whose side/party or not …………..what matters is, when Muslim shops were burnt down and Aluthgama Muslims were attacked the Rajapakse government did not give them protection ……just looked the other way. There were well planned systematic attacks on the Muslims and the Rajapakse government did nothing to protect them; not as a minority but as citizens of SL …………give them the protection all citizens are entitled to and deserve.

Now try and explain away that ………. uncle

Bodu Bala Sena has been consistently supporting “Pohottuwa” and Mahinda Clan. GoTa has been the driving force behind Bodu Bala Sena movement and funding its terror campaign against Muslims in Sri Lanka. GoTa in fact facilitated the recent meeting between Galabodaya and Buddhist Bin Laden – Wirathu.

      Nimal Maharage,

When did BBS supported Pohottuwa to warrant suspicion? Being in a picture with Gota does not make one his stooge. You have put forth convincing evidence for your hypothesis. Well can you?

If you don’t know, BBS supported “Pohottuwa” through a country-wide grass root organizational network called NFPO. the rest is yours to find out with details. This is a well known fact, because GoTa and NFPO leader crossed their paths in Defence under MaRa

Commission to look into the far more important issue of the Aluthgama incident, because all the perpetrators are now in the yahapalana government.

We hope, GLP may need not to worry, because when the power changes hand the perpetrators will return back to GLP. If GLP, really interested, he can appoint his own commission that time. GLP may to understand simple thing the fish can only survive where there is water.

Over the past 3 years, realization has gradually dawned among a section of the Muslim public that their community was used as a cat’s paw in the regime-change operation of 08th January 2015 by the foreign puppet-masters.
    .
The Joint Oppositions call for the appointment of a Commission of Inquiry is therefore welcome, especially since it will be conducted under the aegis of the Yahapalanaya Government. It should reveal once and for all the key players behind the scene. It should answer the question : Who really benefitted from the outburst of anti-Muslim sentiment during that specific period of time ?

    .
An all-Island poll conducted in the first week of January 2018 revealed, inter alia, that nearly 15% of Muslims who had voted for the UPFA at the 2015 General Elections, had already decided to vote for the Pohottuwa in February 2018.
    .
The era of the Thinking Muslims has begun.

      Better late than never.
A commission is necessary to clear the air and for settlement of compensation; it is not too much to ask for. It is good for the country to be aware of who the instigaters were so that the courts could be called upon to deliver appropriate justice.
There is no place for violence in a civilized society.

Sri Lanka needs long term peace and social harmony to build the country ..
The nation building process can not be done without support of all communities today.
Sri Lanka has one of richest human resources..sri Lankan natural and human resources are huge and if we potentially utilised them surely we could become one more Singapore or Tailand in Asia..
Yet; political stability and peace should prevail at any cost ..we should not become our own judgements and victimisation.
This country is so beautiful and so natural in its geography and locations..
We are moving fast and competing many other nations in human recourse ..
Look at the rate of school drop outs with huge human potentiality and human wealth.
Each child.born in Sri Lanka is a national asserts to this nation.
Who knows how talented children are born in Sri Lanka and yet; we have wasted their human potentiality due to lack of monkey.and due to lack of good system to benefit from.human resources.
In 1945 Japan did not have much national resources and yet today it does not have..
But what a difference it made in the world with its human resources and human potentiality.
It’s today world no 1 economy not because of its natural resources but due to its quality of human resources.
Please politicians whoever come to power ..
Take some.responsibility and do not fight each other.
It was bombed in 1945.and yet it overcame it ..
We could over come all difficulties in Sri Lanka.
We need unity and all should contribute to Lankan pride and pround ..
Do not waste our human resources and potentiality.

      Sinhalese Pundit,

Are you mad? Japan was the most industrialist’s Asian country in the mid 20th century. It had ample number of raw materials including coal and iron deposits up until the 70s. What it lacked in those time was oil. That prompt them to begging a imperialist campaign to secure oil fields.

Moreover, the more they were bombed the more they received compensation for it. US put money into Japan to prop it’s economy up after the WW2 and specially during the Korean War. Korean War was the watershed event that put Japan right back to it’s tracks.

So do not try to portray Sri Lanka in the same light as countries like Japan or Korea. Because it’s like comparing apples to oranges.

GL I suspect he Sinha Le movement is/was initiated for the same reason, looking closely at where the stickers appeared it resembled an intentional “seeding in expectation to spread” type behavior rather than a natural spread from an initial idea.

Is the recently returned US citizen in the coalition now?

Hi Proffossari, please don’t shed your crocodile tears for the Muslims since you are going to bed with the murderers and looters – your paymasters Mara and Gora. Muslim knew well what they did to them using their BBS, Sinhala Ravya etc. Muslims would never forgive all of you for murdering and attacking them. From this local government elections it’s very clear to all you unless you get the minorities’ votes, you won’t be able to capture the power in the Presidential or general elections, where the real power lies. The Tamil will never vote for you but now you want to get the Muslims to your side, and with their votes in your bucket, you want to ride to power. Man its dream, and the Muslims won’t forget the sins all of you did to them. It’s a shame to call you a professor, your so called education not benefited you or any other. It’s shame that your parents good efforts and hard earned money gone to waste for educating you for you are with murderers and looters.!

Dr. GLPerieis: Remember how did you suffer during the last govt. As you are legal expert, you should have been appointed to the ministry of Justice, I heard you said NO to it. but, you were reporting to a thug business man while you the foreign minister, they say you did not like that too. Anyway, it is your party. Some one else is taking the credit. He thinks Ranil’s defeat because of Ranil’s own wrong doings is his work. So, some how you do clean your own govt wrong doings last time here. It is not worth for a political party to belittle and haress that poor monk who talked against what is happening to a buddhist country. We still believe the country is for Sinhala buddhists. But we do not discriminate against minorities and consider they as our own. In the mean time, you are trying to purify muslims who threatened buiddhists in Mahiyangana, Kataragama and in Aluthgama. that is a short list. How about what they have done in WIlpattu, ritigala, Seruwila etc., I think Wigneswaran was a gutsy leader who should be appriciate. He was straight forward and said NO to Islamization of Mulativu. What does your party offer against Islamization ? That will be an issue.

    GL Peries,
There is no doubt that Mahinda lead group was involved anti Tamil &anti Muslim violence during your period. There was close relationship between that group and BBS. Can you explain why an SLFP mp Mahinda Rajapakse as a leader instead of you? I think you have the characteristics of a political leader such as changing parties, lieing, cheating etc.

Dr. G.L. Periris: In your party. there are so many three wheeler parties. Will they ever be able to set up their own govt based on theri philosophy. that is just another way of a having a job for life and swindling the country. why your party corporate with them. Because, if not UNP or SLFP will give them an ambalama. That Kehetha did at least one thing, challenged the impending diasater to the Port. As an educated man what is your conscience say about continuing to fool voters while some rogues are trying to escape assuming that people will forget. Do you feel contended ? How should we remember you ?

I remember how after the 2015 election defeat Mahinda was hanging from the windows at his Tangalle residence telling his supporters that he lost because of the minority votes (and had therefore in fact not “really” lost) which made it clear that he did not consider Muslim and Tamil votes to have any weight or importance in comparison to Sinhala votes and thereby displaying his racism to the entire country.
