Following the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s resounding victory at the local government elections, a rumor began circulating in the social media that the Bodu Bala Sena had made facebook posts in support of the SLPP. Then articles appeared in the newspapers quoting a letter written to the press by Mr. N.M. Ameen of the Muslim Council stating that SLPP cadres had allegedly harassed several Muslim individuals in Ugurassapitiya in Kandy and Veyangalla in Agalawatte for not supporting the SLPP. If any such incidents had occurred, they should be reported to the police and dealt with.
The public is well aware of the strategies that were orchestrated before the last presidential election to alienate the Muslim community from our leadership. The book written by prominent Jathika Hela Urumaya activist Asoka Abeygunawardana titled ‘Yuga Peraliya’ the first copy of which was formally presented to President Maithripala Sirisenaon 23 March 2015 has explained the strategies adopted to send the Muslim community en masse onto the other side before the last presidential election. Audio clips of the main conspirators discussing these strategies over the phone were subsequently circulated in the social media. We admit that our government was not decisive enough in dealing with this conspiracy.
Everyone will remember that as the yahapalana government rapidly declined in popularity in 2017, there was yet another spate of attacks on Muslim businesses and houses.Then a monk at thecentre of these incidents was granted bail three times in a single day and everything was swept under the carpet. Even though the yahapalana government appointed Presidential Commissions to look into matters like the renting of space in the Mahiyangana Pradeshiya Sabha shopping complex, they never appointed a Commission to look into the far more important issue of the Aluthgama incident, because all the perpetrators are now in the yahapalana government.
The Muslim community has now realized the deception that has been practiced on them, and the results of the local government election clearly reflects that. It is therefore not surprising that conspiratorial elements are once again at work. The public should be vigilant and not be misled a second time. The government should immediately establish a Commission of Inquiry into the Aluthgama incident, the incidents that led up to it, the sudden flare up of extremist activity in 2017 and the Gintota incident. In the meantime, the full severity of the law should be brought to bear on such incidents in the future.

It has become a habit now for politicians to publicly accuse thier ex-party members of wrongdoing AFTER they have crossed over to another party or alliance. We saw MR threatening to reveal the wrongdoings (files) of his own ministers if they were to support MS in 2015, we saw MS and co (Rajitha, Patali etc) talking about how corrupt the MR government is after being in that government for years. What kind of politics is this? Is this because they know how stupid and gullible SL voters are? I’m absolutely baffled that anyone can listen to the drivel SL politicians spout and still believe/support these hypocrites. Even a dog learns not to make the same mistakes when he gets kicked a few times but not Sri Lankan voters…how sad.

It doesn’t matter who is on/in whose side/party or not …………..what matters is, when Muslim shops were burnt down and Aluthgama Muslims were attacked the Rajapakse government did not give them protection ……just looked the other way. There were well planned systematic attacks on the Muslims and the Rajapakse government did nothing to protect them; not as a minority but as citizens of SL …………give them the protection all citizens are entitled to and deserve.

But what a difference it made in the world with its human resources and human potentiality.
It’s today world no 1 economy not because of its natural resources but due to its quality of human resources.

Are you mad? Japan was the most industrialist’s Asian country in the mid 20th century. It had ample number of raw materials including coal and iron deposits up until the 70s. What it lacked in those time was oil. That prompt them to begging a imperialist campaign to secure oil fields.
Moreover, the more they were bombed the more they received compensation for it. US put money into Japan to prop it’s economy up after the WW2 and specially during the Korean War. Korean War was the watershed event that put Japan right back to it’s tracks.
So do not try to portray Sri Lanka in the same light as countries like Japan or Korea. Because it’s like comparing apples to oranges.

I remember how after the 2015 election defeat Mahinda was hanging from the windows at his Tangalle residence telling his supporters that he lost because of the minority votes (and had therefore in fact not “really” lost) which made it clear that he did not consider Muslim and Tamil votes to have any weight or importance in comparison to Sinhala votes and thereby displaying his racism to the entire country.
