Anti-Muslim Riots: Unstoppable?

By S. I. Keethaponcalan

Dr. S. I. Keethaponcalan

Sri Lankans know when there is a riot because the country has witnessed a series of ethnic riots against the Tamils, before the hostilities turned into an organized armed conflict. Sri Lankans also understand pretty well the destructive consequences of such anti-minority violence. Yet, the violence continues. The recent trend of anti-Muslim riots began to unfold ever since the war between the armed forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) ended in a stunning military victory for the Sri Lankan state.

During the war, relations between Sinhalese and the Muslims were at the zenith as Muslims played a constructively supportive role to deal with the LTTE threat. The Muslims traditionally, and many of them even today, speak Tamil. Tamil is their home-language. Therefore, they were able to fulfill civilian and military responsibilities, which the Tamils could not be trusted with. A large number of Muslims served, for example, in police, intelligence services, broadcasting facilities and so on. Many Tamils in the Eastern province maintain that the military collaborated very closely with Muslim home-guards in the province. On March 7, 2018, Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, who currently serves as the Chief of Defence Staff of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces, stated that “we are living today thanks to them (the Muslims)…Our intelligence during our conflict time was entirely run by our Muslim community …They sacrificed their lives, they went with us in the long range reconn(aissance) patrols to go to the LTTE areas, they were fluent in the language, and they protected us…” Naturally, Sinhalese in general and the state in particular valued the warmth and patronage of the Muslims, leading to cordial relations between the two entities. It has now been changed.

Why?

Dismissing the riots as madness is erroneous. There is a need to comprehend the fundamental reasons of the hostilities in order to think about how to deal with it. I believe that the emerging troubles are a result of the evolving threat perception within the Sinhala community. With the end of the war, the utility value of the Muslims disappeared and especially Sinhala nationalist groups began to view the Muslims as a threat. The threat perception emanates from three important factors: (1) the gradually expanding nature of the Muslim population, (2) the Muslim domination of especially the small and medium trade sector and market even in rural areas, and (3) increasing radicalization within some segment of the Muslim population.

The Muslims were only seven percent of the total population in 1981. In 2012, they grew to 9.3 percent. The Sinhala population increased only by 0.9 percent in this period. Sinhalese view this as a structural issue that could transform the fundamental Sinhala-Buddhist characteristic of the country. Some believe that Sri Lanka could become a Muslim country. Nationalist Sinhalese often point out the fate of states such as Afghanistan and Maldives, where Buddhism was a predominant religion, once upon a time. The fear is that the changing demography in Sri Lanka could transform it into an Islamic state in the long run. It is important to note that the alleged wanda pethi, which ignited the Ampara riot, has a direct nexus to population growth. The implication of the theory is that the Muslims are involved in a conspiracy to mitigate population growth of other communities.

As far as the second factor is concerned, traditionally, Muslims have been traders. Many of them first came to Sri Lanka as traders from the Middle East and other regions. Hence, they naturally have an edge in the market place. Economic liberalization helped Muslim community’s commercial activities to boom in the recent past. Sinhalese are finding it difficult to compete with Muslim traders. As one may easily notice, the rioters mostly target Muslim commercial interests as shops and industries are razed to the ground. In a video posted online, one of the rioters claimed that he was trying to distribute leaflets in a Sinhala town, but cannot find any Sinhala shop except a sole kade (shop) selling CDs. He claimed that the town has gone to the Muslims, signifying the view that Muslims are taking over businesses and townships plays a role in the recent attacks.

Third, there has been a process of radicalization within the Sri Lankan Muslim community. Many have adopted radical Islamic practices and espouse Middle Eastern style of dress codes, a relatively new phenomenon. Consequently, the Muslim community has been evolving into an isolated group in many areas. Some believe that radical ideologies are preached in several mosques especially in the Eastern Province. The ongoing radicalization has influenced some Sri Lankans to join hands with transnational terrorist organizations. For example, reports indicate a small number of Sri Lankans have been recruited by ISIS. The trend creates considerable resentment and enmity towards the Muslim people among other communities.

Why Now?

These factors have led to periodic violence and riots against Muslim interests since the immediate aftermath of the end of the war with Sinhala nationalist organizations such as Sinhala Rawaya and Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), leading the violent campaign. In the 2010 national elections, the Muslims overwhelmingly voted for President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his party. However, the unstoppable attacks diminished their support for the Rajapaksa government. Many believed that the attackers had the patronage of leading members of the government. In 2015, Muslim voters helped unseat Rajapaksa by voting for the incumbent president and the United National Party (UNP). With the coming to power of the new government in 2015, the attacks receded to a great extent. However, the recent riots have shown they are making a comeback after some time. Why are the attacks reemerging?

Some observers have informally pointed the finger at former President Rajapaksa and his party. However, there is no evidence to suggest this was instigated or influenced by the Rajapaksa people. One of the factors that could have emboldened the rioters and political monks, who lead the campaign, is the outcome of the just concluded local government elections. The results suggest that Rajapaksa’s party is overwhelmingly popular among Sinhala voters and may win the general election in 2020 with ease. The crisis ignited by the riots adds to the woes of the government, which has already been struggling to deliver the promises made.

The riots also have the capacity to split Muslim votes and take a portion in favor of Rajapaksa’s party, the Sri Lanka Podujana Pramuna (SLPP). Some of the Muslim community leaders have already complained that the present government has betrayed them by failing to provide security immediately. Some are demanding that Muslim parties, which are part of the government, should leave the coalition in protest. Indicating if the attacks continue, the present government stands to lose its vote base within the Muslim Community.

Unstoppable?

It is possible that Sri Lanka is reentering into a dark age with the renewed attacks. The riot does not bode well for the country or people. The trend should be halted immediately. Political leaders and concerned people have been appealing to the goodness of the communities involved. However, the important question is, will common sense help to resolve this issue.

This is doubtful for two reasons. One, the main problem of the Sinhalese is fundamental and structural. It seems that the fear that they will become extinct due to the growth of the Muslim community has been deeply rooted within the nationalist Sinhala psyche. Until this fear factor is addressed, the attacks are likely to continue. Two, the attackers are extremely powerful people and groups. The political monks have no fear of law enforcement and at times, they are endorsed by forces within the law enforcement agencies. The political monk cannot be arrested and punished due to the very nature of the Sri Lankan society and state. For example, arresting and taking legal action against political monks who are openly advocating violence will considerably dent Sinhala votes in the next election. Therefore, the present government is unlikely to take concrete action against the rioters, especially the political monks. In my view, these two factors combined make the riots difficult to stop completely, unfortunately. The implication being that we have to deal with these structural issues in order to completely halt the anti-Muslim riots.

Yet, one of the first steps that could be introduced is a sustained dialogue between Muslim community leaders and the political monks. Some opportunities might emerge from such dialogues.

Exactly ! Cities all over the country are full of goons and these
goons have a history of being hired by politicians of all hues.
These goons had been in action everywhere against Muslims
and minor and sometimes even a bit serious incidents are
settled down , out of court with the intervention of religious,
social and political influence , EASY VICTIM BEING MUSLIMS.
AS A GENERAL RULE , MEDIA RUNS COMPLETE BLACKOUT
ON SUCH INCIDENTS OR GIVE A DIFFERENT INTERPRETATION,
like in the case of not allowing Bairaha to run its branch in
Dalugama , Kelaniya . The outlet was grenade-attacked until it
was shut down . Media just ran a few lines of short report
trivializing the incident as “business rivalry.” This happened in
the middle of 90s. The irony is , writers who spend their time to
contribute to the media of all sorts largely depend on the same
media for information to base their creation . No media in our
country has ever published the TRUTH BEHIND ANY OF THESE
KIND OF COMMUNAL CLASHES INVOLVING SMALL NUMBERS
IN POCKETS OF ALL LOCALITIES , WITH FULL OR HALF HONESTY.
Under such a circumstance , how on earth , can you commit
yourself to a fruitful research that would produce results ? Come
out of your traditional box , set your feet on the ground , do some
travelling and then design whatever you want to create ! Politics ,
religions and media are taking advantage of prevailing generally
calm environment throughout the country but tension and
ingredients for more tension and violent tensions had been in
some readiness for quite a long . Military victory in the North and
the interpretation given to it by the winners is , one of the reasons
that has triggered this violence against Muslims now . Writer follows
the common lines of finding fault with Muslim lifestyle changes
which are just excuses to Gintota , Ampara and Kandy episodes .

Once in 87 , I went with a Sinhala businessman to see a PC member
in Gampaha district , who also had links to Wijepala Mendis . Even
before I was introduced to him , taking me for another Sinhala , he
jump started his conversation and in the middle he said ” machan
this trade is in the hands of Muslims and people like you and me
have to build our business in partnership to handle the situation.”
My friend went dumb ! He was clueless , felt embarrassed and
escaped introducing me with half of my name which is hard to spot
the ID . Why this flash back ? Because I have similar experiences
many folds which indicate the real Intercommunal feelings in our
private lives . What if this man was a police chief ? An army top man ?
Men in any department ? In Temples and Mosques ? Poor innocent
people come across open hatred in thousands in their everyday life
that goes unnoticed and undetected so unsolved . Muslims on their
part are not without flows ! how come only one side ? But people who
know maths know , they don’t do anything in hatred ! Majority of them
are in some sort of business , businesses need customers. No cultural
        barriers can benefit businesses .

The question is whether Muslim dominance in the Island,in the foreseeable future is Real or Imaginary?
Perhaps, some sections of the Sinhala polity believe that it is real in the Kandyan Regions and Amparai town where the rioting took place.
For the time being the other places down south of the country is free of such rioting.Of-course this does not mean the Real or Imaginary question is redundant!

If you check American and European white supremacist and ultra nationalist web sites they claim the same thing that the Sinhala supremacist and ultra nationalist in Sri Lanka claim that their respective nations are being Islamized, Muslim population is taking over their countries and they will become minorities.

The war on terror or rather I would say the war on Islam was created to invade, loot resources, reduce their military capabilities and subjugate them to American imperialism.Middle east is to be re drawn into smaller states to benefit America and Israel. An enemy was created and it allowed other countries to use the same ideology against Muslims in other countries. Basically the same western rhetoric is used in these countries to justify ethnic cleansing, violence against Muslim population.

There are many Americans who believe that the 9/11 was a inside job and it was done to put in effect by a neoconservative group majority of whom are Zionist Jews / Christians. It is called the ” Project for the New American Century”. Further there are a large number of YouTube videos which debunk the official 9/11 narrative.

Today , a HORA BUDDA IDOL which was forcefully kept by Sivura Rowdies in a place where only InduTamils and Muslims are living near Ampara , has been thrown into pieces by the ALMIGHTY by sending a Mini Cyclone in that area.
HORA BUDDA IDOL was found head separated from body and body in pieces under the hill . Now Police team has been deployed in the area as these Sivura Rowdies may start to propagate Muslims/ tamils have broken Idol..
How idiot these so called Budhist who worship believing an Idol has power which are made by some one , normally, a Kasippayaa , and sell to those sivurayaas by whom there are kept in others properties . We can see many videos in which all these Sivura Rowdies take oaths and wows in front of Budha Idol before going to attack and loot .

Muslim did not burn Christian church, Temples or Kovils in Sri Lanka so why you stupid donkey jayantha talk about Pakistan. Let the Pakistan government to handle that. The problem in Pakistan is because of Blasphemy Law which should be abolished. A fight between two friends (one Christian and the other Muslim) under the influence of liquor and this Muslim fellow complained that his Christian friend was insulting Prophet Muhammad. Lunatic donkeys started a riot. Some local Muslim take revenge against non-Muslim by making such allegations and these sometime erupt into riots. Although in Sri Lanka no such Buddhist law but impunity given to Buddhist monks in constitution is as dangerous as blasphemy law. Racist monks create riots and protect the thugs too.

Increasing their own population and decreasing the Sinhalese population is only one aspect of the Muslim invasion.

There are far more intricate ways the Muslims use. Go to the Law faculty or the Law college and see the number of Sinhalese versus the number of Muslims. Why enter the legal field so enthusiastically? Because that’s a very critical area where Sinhalese can be played out. Making “Hora Oppu” is a past-time of the Muslim scoundrel.

Muslims wear the Hijab and cheat at Exams by sending someone else under the Hijab than sending the actual person. Look at the number of Muslim students in the Medical faculty.

    [Edited out]
We also heard of a place in Raigama where Muslims first came to worship a Buddhist shrine 10 years ago as a symbol of ethnic harmony. They said because they have “lots” of Sinhalese Buddhist friends they visit the Buddhist temple as a mark of respect for the Buddhists. That was 10 years. Today they are saying this a historic Muslim place.

Rtd. Lt. Reginald Shamal Perera, you are a loser who has nothing to do than attack all the minorities in the country. Bugger, if you had fought the war like a real man, you would have died in the northern front valiantly like most real heroes of the Sri Lankan armed forces. Though I am Tamil, I respect the soldiers who really fought in the northern and eastern districts unlike a coward like you who comes around here writing rubbish. It shows, after many years in the military you retired only as a low level Lieutenant, is that how far you went with the army? The army saw no value in you, they kept you down at the bottom? It is about time you concealed your title and go as Saparamadu Wijeyatilleke Somawansa Muttubanda Paranagoda…………..a bloody gamaya hick from the south.

        Tamil from the North,

I don’t hate Tamils by any means. Some of the best times in my life was when I was serving in the North. Had many girlfriends there. I don’t hate the Muslims either. I just shun them. They are nobodys to me. In fact most of the poor people here are nobodys to me as well. Whether Sinhala, Muslim, Tamil or Burgher. I don’t know your Financial position but from your writing I can make a good assumption that you are a dignified man with a decent education. Hence, your financial position is hopefully good as well. That’s why I want to be your friend here. If you don’t mind that is.

Now, why I left the army as a Lieutenant was because of my discipline. Let’s just say my discipline those days wasn’t top notch. I don’t want to get into too much details but I was Honorably discharged for a Disciplinary citation.

Decreasing the Sinhala population? That is the theory of backward, uneducated louts. If there are more Muslims in educational institutes, it is because they have studied hard and got in, line the Tamil children did. Perhaps instead of spreading unscientific theories, the Sinhalese Buddhist people, should focus on encouraging their children to study hard, and get an education, something obviously their parents lacked, and goes against them. Your entire comment stinks of propaganda, false claims, and hatred for the Muslims.

How about that wanda pethi which turned out to be a lump of flour?

Navin, I think that there are a good many Muslim girls who apply themselves assiduously to their studies because that is the one way in which they can ensure some independence for themselves.

I agree that it is salutary side effect which we should not try to undermine. I agree that Sinhalese students don’t work hard enough.

However, we should ensure basic Human Rights for all humans. Reform MMDA.

Are they killing for Lord Buddha? We don’t talk about the Muslims right now in Sri Lanka, because they were the victims of the violence, because of false stories, most probably YOU believe in. I’ve been talking only about what SOME Muslims foolishly do in Sri Lanka, and made some quite serious suggestions.

We must all learn to live together. All man-made religions are of secondary importance, and they all have bits that appear to have been inspired by the Devil.

That is if you believe in supernatural Devils, of whom there seem to be plenty in Sri Lanka – and let us make honourable mention of The Donald as well.

Absolutely true, once upon a time, Jaffna VellalaTamils (not all Tamils) were seen as a threat to national unity and Sinhala Buddha supremacy, then their foolish politicians from asking for 50:50 to Tamil Eelam, only made themselves a willing target. All the riots from 1958 to 1983 had provocations, from simple to LTTE attack. They paid with hundreds of thousands of lives lost and millions living abroad as second class citizens whence they could have lived like lords in their own country. Sinhalese and Tamils culturally are the same, we go to each other’s religious places and marry each other, still it had to come to that. I hope the Muslim elite learn a lesson (I doubt it), don’t provoke the sleeping lion. Yes, the fears are irrational but your conduct only makes it real. Your preachers business people and politicians are always attacking and belittling us, when we have been more than generous. Sinhala Buddhism is not going away, we will always be here, so will our ideology, peculiarities and fears. Drop your pretence of living in Saudi Arabia, learn Sinhala, be less conspicuous, blend in, support the monkhood and stop stealing other people’s lands and stop converting. Or else be ready to face the music like this untill end of times.

      Rajiv Samarasinghe

Could you clarify what you meant by “All the riots from 1958 to 1983 had provocations, from simple to LTTE attack.”

Are you blaming the Vellalas and LTTE for riots of 1958, 1961, … and 1971 JVP terrorism?.

” Sinhalese and Tamils culturally are the same, we go to each other’s religious places and marry each other, still it had to come to that.”

If culturally same why give Sinhala/Buddhist the primacy over other religion in Chapter II of the constitution?

“Sinhala Buddhism is not going away, we will always be here, so will our ideology, peculiarities and fears.”

No doubt the Sinhala/Buddhists will be here so long as we have a Sinhala/Buddhist gallant armed forces and state functionaries however I am worried about the future of Sinhalese and Buddhists as you know the growing number of Sinhala/Buddhist fascists are determined to destroy Sinhalese and Buddhists.

“…….., learn Sinhala, be less conspicuous, blend in, support the monkhood and stop stealing other people’s lands and stop converting.”

I understand your desperation however could you tell me,
why the Muslims or any other people should learn Sinhala, be less conspicuous, blend in, and support the monkhood, ….?

Where did you get the moral support/courage/rights, ………….. to demand all the above from Muslims?

Please bear with me for I am bit thick.

Rajiv Samarasinghe, Neither Sinhala Buddhism, the Tamils nor the Muslims are going away for sure. But you have to immediately get admitted to a nearest mental hospital or Angoda, if you’re in SL, and live rest of your life in that wonderland.

Dr. Keethaponcalan, at last some intellectual analysis, thank you. But you must know if you lived in Sri Lanka at any point that dialog does not work. Then what else? The anti Muslim sentiment among Sinhalese youth have been growing for the past several years, there were many myths and exaggerations and extraordinary interpretations . But until shops went up in flames no one in any responsible position addressed it. Not the government, not the opposition, not the elites of the civic society, not the think tanks, not the school principals or not even the Muslim leadership. Were they all so out of touch with the ground realities? When the ridiculous rumor about sterilizing pill/gel/whatever went around for months and months why didn’t anybody speak up. The GMOA? Surely there must be Muslim doctors in the GMOA. Now the government is trying to damage control, or did they want this mess, but why? There has to be something deeper if not sinister, and intellectuals like you are the ones who can elucidate that.

Wannihami: MMDA should be banend and marraige laws should be common to every body. these intelctuals congtributed financially when Muslims were chased out from North and when muslims were slaughtered like the way muslims slaughter cattle, In Kathankudy.

If a Muslim doctor spoke up, they will say it is because he is covering for the Muslim. It is up to all decent Buddhist doctors, to speak up, and educate the ignorant.

Yes there is something deeper and sinister, and yes this has been building up systematically by sinister elements, who mean to make this yet another Myanmar. It is time the government investigated the anti Muslim campaign started in the US, by wealthy zionists, like Nina Rosenwald (Sears Roebuck heiress) and carried out by well known American Islamaphobes like Pamela Geller, Frank Gaffney, and so many others, and how that movement has reached the shores of Sri Lanka. The government should also investigate the Israeli influence, the training of Sinhala youth, and the Hasbara movement, that is primarily part of the hate comments, and anti Muslim lies, being spread, which many Buddhist youth have become part of. It is all a part of an orchestrated, and organized campaign, similar to the one going on in Myanmar, the same fake stories spread about the minority taking over etc. Why these countries want to have innocent Muslims attacked, killed, and demonized, is hard to comprehend, but nations who are behind this, do not have the best interest of our nation, they are simply bringing chaos, ethnic violence, and the Sri Lankan economy suffers.
There is an increase in anti Muslim attacks around the world, and the fact that Western nations, led by the US, have systematically bombed
only Muslim nations these last few decades, killing MILLIONS of innocent Muslims, injuring millions, and making millions homeless, is never mentioned. Now extremists are using what could be called a genocide, to perpetrate their jihadist crimes, and it is all the results of Western aggression. Before Iraq was attacked and the entire nation in shambles, there was NO terrorism, or sectarian violence. The US and it’s allies are responsible for the turmoil and destruction of all those nations.

    ” ANTI-MUSLIM RIOTS: UNSTOPPABLE?

Dismissing the riots as madness is erroneous. There is a need to comprehend the fundamental reasons of the hostilities in order to think about how to deal with it……………………………..
The fear is that the changing demography in Sri Lanka could transform it into an Islamic state in the long run.
Author started with the question of “Unstoppable?”, and after walking through the steps needed to comprehend the fundamental problems (as per his theory), in his essay, author ended with a note “It is unstoppable ”. Author is not aware the mighty Nazi’s jealous was stopped and that union did that job became as the UN. UN can stop this too. But it is unstoppable for these writers because stopping will harm their war hero, who annihilated their enemy LTTE, the freedom fighters. One must remember this- Ex State Secretary John Kerry made to tear off the OISL report that carried 42 war criminals name and it is one of them conducting these riots too. If there is a will within them, UNHRC can stop this too. So, let’s see where things went wrong for this writer.

Author is writing this essay after one of the series of the Muslim-Sinhala riots. This situation left the author handicapped- probably willfully. So he came out with narrow spectrum of analysis, titled as “ANTI-MUSLIM RIOTS”. 1915 Muslims-Sinhala Right was the mother of all riots in Lankawe(1). Even during LTTE war time there were few Muslims-Sinhala riots in Mattara, Galle….like Sothers towns. They did not get prominence because of the way, not because of they were negligible or ignorable. But MMDA (2) was big buy out of Muslims after the Indian Pakistani Citizenship acts of 1948-1949 (3). This where the Muslim were separated from other communities and assigned duty of inventing Wanda Behdhi and patenting it.

This was only a queuing arrangement for the minority communities i.e. Tamils first, Muslims last. This was done by Don Stephen who was the one imprisoned for conducting 1915 riots against Muslims. Once the author had dismissed these three (above 1, 2 &3) incidents to not to include in his essay, he was not able to get anywhere in his essay, so went unstoppable to “Unstoppable”. His is missing the jungle to tree (March 2018 riot). Then he is putting the smart talk and importance only to one incident. Here we can note that Laksiri Fernando had written in his article that if UNP punish Sinhalese rioters this time, then the pass crimes will be forgotten. One might argue, Laksiri Fernando had in memory the Tamil Genocides, but this time he wants the UNP to punish Sinhalese and become unpopular with in Sinhalese, but that will save the Old Royals from the UN Electric Chair. There is some point in that too. But the outstanding fact is, his proposal of forcing IC and the local people to forget the past Genocide. Even though Laksiri Fernando had not forgotten the war, but in all his essays her either ignores the pre-war Genocides & pogroms. What this stating is, Analysts are more on the side of willfully, ignoring the past to guide the reader’s perception of incidents’ colors with the paint the want to brush on. That is what we see the general statement of “Dismissing the riots as madness is erroneous- Because it is the fear of Wanda Behedhi of Sinhalese. “ Irrelevant of the point we took her to talk, author on another angle, insisting that Sinhalese have a genuine fear of Wanda Behedhi existence.

The writer in his past writing blamed FP’s federalism is the one provoked and splits Tamils and Sinhalese. To substantiate that kind of narrow talks, he can only blame Muslims not has neutralized the canard -rumors of the Sterilizing Pills. The author fails to understand that Muslims might have found a way to balance that fabricated hoax if they have had a way to stop Don Stephen using MMDA to split Muslim men from women and thus splitting Muslims from Tamils and now Muslims from all Lankawe communities. Don did it very artistically, so it had brushed out the intelligence of the Muslim community’s intellects of forecasting what was about to come. They were holding the carrot in front of the donkey and kept it to pull the cart – MMDA played its role even in this election and in this riots. Everybody goofed at Don Stephens’s Chicanery. Today some Tamil News carry a piece saying that Stephane J Rapp, an American Ex. Congressman and a human right activist have claimed that Sharia -Yahapalanaya Lankawe government had shown its Chicanery in Geneva too, in the promise of implementing Resolution 30/1.
The Child had failed in the third grade about 70 years ago. From that day it never passed any grade, but has been receiving “social promotions from IC”. Now it is in High school and still failing. But Author is explaining it has a problem of drug addiction that is why it is failing. Author’s purposeful denial of its failure in thirds grade is “it was not the same grade with this. The Child has come to the 8th grade passing all these time all other grades already”. The author and Lasksiri Fernando want the people forget about the past and believe only the explanations that they are giving for the last incident.

” It is possible that Sri Lanka is reentering into a dark age with the renewed attacks. “ Author wants everybody to believe, after his archrival enemy LTTE was annihilated, Lankawe was a heaven, but now by starting to hurt Muslims, it is going to become the Paradise lost. But Sinhalese dismantle Old King from the throne in 2015 for what he did after 2009 war victory. Author is tempted to describe that period as Golden Era of Lankawe.
If somebody wants to understand what the heck the MMDA is, they need to remember what happened to Muslims after 2009. While Aluthgama, Tharga Town, Dambulla incidents were taking place Muslim leaders kept quiet. Mano Ganesan talked about it in the parliament. This has caused uproar from Muslims in the parliament. This time a junior Muslim minister named Harris talked about the Kandy riots in the parliament. SLMC caucus had a special meeting to fire Harris from party. Hakeem, Rishard, Amir Ali, Hezbollah all that community leaders are under the control of this government because of their fraudulent life in the past Chitanta government. By this somebody need to understand that Muslims were suppressed by perks & impunity, but Tamils were suppressed by loot and rape & PTA. They both were always suppressed, ever from the time of freedom. This was pre-planned from 1915.

This is beyond the grasp of the author because author confuses between the two English words fear and Envy. There was no fear in 1915 of Muslim population, in the Sinhala Community. There was procession in Kandy and some Muslims rowdies attacked it passing mid night. Tamils brought an end to the riots, which spread out of that. That is where the latent jealous on Tamils’ power became obvious in Lankawe. This is not fear, unstoppable jealous.

” This is not fear , unstoppable jealousy.” Spot on ! The whole picture
in just one short line . Victor Ivan , a respected Sinhala news paper
editor saw it the same way . Some respectable and decent Sinhala
crowd feels the same . Everything else that is being said to justify
this and other previous BARBARIC acts are just junk , not only in
this article many others which follow the same parrot line ! All they
want is go with what’s going on in some parts of the world against
Muslims . That can not fit in here ! It must be a case by case
process and it will all end in one pool but for now , Muslims here
are attacked for no reason at all . Of course there are many sources
to benefit from this racial attack . Politics , Religions , Business and
outside sources ! Those are the consequences created by the attack
and the beneficiaries might want more when necessary at intervals !

    Not in our Name
Nanasera Himi yan ,was threatening Rishard and Rsihard has been bragging about taking up Arms. ,the two of them want to drag both the communities to settle their personal enmity.

What would happen if Muslims and Buddhists take arms ? Of cause The Buddhist Militia will have an enormous support of the government via the forces because then it will become Muslim Terrorist against Sri Lanka

Who will benefit? Arms manufacturers ,& sales ,illegals arms dealers, drug peddlers ,Human smugglers ,Politicians and all extremists. at the cost of innocent civilians .

The Terror network will have a hay day, they will forcefully use innocent Muslims even against their will as suicide bombers ,back to square one .

The government is sadly unable to prosecute people with power- when they spread such ideas to the masses freely and openly on social Media .
    Shame .

I still say The Government as a whole failed ,MR should be the last man to say anything ,for it is during his government all this started and he did nothing and even went a step further to invite The Burmese extremist Monk to Sri Lanka and instill more fear and threat .

Strangely everyone thinks they are guaranteed their tomorrow , you never know what is in store for each person ,Nature has a strange way of dealing with people and situations ,Call it Karma or God .

It has a way of humbling the arrogant .

Lt retarded Perera, I here the state and intelligence are looking for you, I heard few have been arrested for war mongering, now a monk may not be arrested in Lanka but people with fake titles and with title of yours (retarded) are not in the list of immunity, So run…. run…. run.

Just a few stuff , not directly connected to the issue but certainly finds its
way in . Do we have a night life in the country ? Why not ? Can women
travel on public transport without male harassment ? Even during the day ?
There are mothers who escort their BOYS to and from the schools in the
capital , boys of 15 ! Sinhala mothers ! And mothers of girls take girls of even
over 17 to and from the school . This is the life of even ordinary respectable
and decent lives of SINHALESE ! Common everywhere , not only in the
capital . And now connect the line to the issue !
