Leader of the Burmese anti-Muslim movement 696 Ashin Wirathu also known as the ‘Butcher of Burma’ was banned from delivering sermons across Myanmar for one year, starting from March 10, due to his religious hate speeches.
According to the Myanmar Sun, the decision was made at a special meeting of the country’s 47 senior Buddhist monks who run the the state Buddhist authority State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee in Naypyidaw on Thursday, according to U Myint Zaw Win, a director of the Ministry for Religious Affairs and Culture.
The statement from the meeting released on Friday warned U Wirathu that any breach of the order will lead to legal action. The ban will be in effect until March 9 next year, the newspaper said.
The State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee said in the statement that the nationalist monk was repeatedly delivering hate speeches against religions to cause communal strife, hinder rule of law, and that he took sides with political parties to inflame tensions.
In October 2014 a special agreement has been signed between the two Buddhist groups Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) and 969 movements with the motive of creating a South Asia free of terrorism and religious fundamentalism.

The damage is done. Terrorism and buddhism must be assessed in terms of good governance. We ignored the injustices of the 70s, 80s, uphill 2009 and the protests by the JVP, LTTE and the Tamil rebels both political and violent and violently suppressed with 100000 sinhala and Tamil Youth being killed. Economic policy must not only create wealth but it must be done in such a manner that social harmony persists . Today we have a economic policy where money is borrowed in terms of the sri lankans and given to the minority to create wealth. The poor Sinhala buddhists are enlisted for slavery in the ME or end up in the spas of colombo. The Farmers are paid poor prices for their produce and the public servants are paid measly salaries. The sinhala Buddhists are at the bottom of the pile gradually pauperised, ethnically cleansed from there land , there birth right being sold by a political class that is corrupt. This social disruption is ignored by the Politicians who have brains of a jackass pushing the country into social violence that is made use by them to remain in power. Until these injustices are corrected social movements that are not heard by the rulers will have no option but violence. They must be heard if not the economics of destruction befalls on the country. This has already happened.
What does a sinhala buddhist have to say about a Leader who starts his political campaign from a temple but allowed his muslim minister to illegally dole out state lands to the tune of about 10000 acres to muslims. Are those protesting Sinhala Buddhist terrorists or are they protesting about injustice.
Until there is a fair economic policy, fiscal policy and good governance no amount of shouting from the Colombo Telegraph will prevent the violence that must be laid at the feet of a political class that cheats its way to parliament but are able to sell the birth rights of the people for a pittance . One needs men of wisdom and commitment to the welfare of the country to rule not a set of parasites as they are today. Your claims and listed concerns may or may not be fair. You wear a ‘Sinhale Eye wear’ and see the situation that only shows you the Sinhala people suffering. The ground reality is most of you said above are very common to poor people of Sri Lanka, regardless of what community they belong to.
Like you, if I wear my dusting ‘Muslim Eye wear’, I will see even a longer list of problems for Muslims with those you said above, plus those that are very specific to Muslims for being a minority with growing hatred.
Similar for Tamils as well.
Do we take those as reasons to terrorize the environment? Instead, living the lives to make people like you feel jealous (kidding). To be fair, one should not expect the Govt to spoon feed him/her, right (be it Sinala, Tamil or Muslim)?
