The police officer, handling the investigation into the assassination of former PA MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, had been transferred.
The Colombo Telegraph has learnt that Assistant Superintendent of Police Hettiarachchi Samudrajeewa was transferred out of Criminal Investigation Department and ordered to report Mount Lavinia police station.
Yesterday denying allegations, Cabinet Spokesman and Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said CID officers who were investigating the Mulleriyawa shooting incident have not been transferred.
Responding to a query from the Media at the weekly Cabinet press briefing the Minister said, the CID was continuing inquiries with no interference. He further said there was no need to take MP Duminda Silva into custody over the Mulleriyawa shooting incident considering his medical status.
It was difficult to handcuff or tie a person who is unconscious on a hospital bed, the Minister said.
The Minister pointed out that stern action has already been taken against the people who were engaged while ten suspects were arrested connected to the incident.
He also said the government assured that prompt and stern action would be taken against the drug dealers and gangsters to end this trend completely from the country.
The family of the slain politician, too, had accused the government of a cover-up.

I really feel sorry for Bharatha’s family. An honest man is killed in day light. Our President has not got the back bone to convey sympathy to the family. Our President is more worried about the well fare of Duminda Silva, a drug dealer, a thug and a criminal. Where is the law of this land. What is going on in our country. Are we living in a gun culture land? Where are our opposition political parties? Why they are not expressing their view. Where is the international community? If we allow this to continue all our good and honest people will get killed. Is Sri Lanka is another Mafia country? Who is the boss of this – Mahinda or Gothabaya?????
Now the transferred a honest Officer.

Given the disaster that has taken place, President Rajapakse must take an Independent stance & probe this murder. People from all communities will lose confidence in the government if the President plays politics & gives in to the thugs who have created a ‘cowboy’ culture. What is the point in winning the war if we have to live in fear. Politicians must lead by example. They are the leaders of our beautiful nation. Has anyone reminded them of this fact ! President Sir, your so called ‘supporters’ are destroying you. Remember, people are your biggest asset. You must safeguard them.

Some politicians are real murderers. Ranil was behind the burning of Jaffna Public Library in 1981. Ranil ordered and witnessed the execution of hundreds of innocent young men from Kelaniya area in his torture chamber in Batalanda in 1989 which was confirmed by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry which comprised retired judges. The courts rejected charges based on technical issues, not factual issues. Since Ranil committed these horrendous crimes in Batalanda, Ranil had to abandon not only his electorate of Biyagama, but also the Gampaha District. Ranil’s very close family members own several newspapers, broadcasting and telecasting stations which promote Ranil and help to prolong his political survival.
