JUST imagine this crime took place in Sri Lanka It would never have come to court and this maniac would never have been brought to justice like every other crime. From top to the bottom every perpetrators walking free. Only the innocent people get punished and people live in a state of anarchy. A pedophile in yellow rope.

Am disappointed for the girls – this is a minor victory for ONE of them ! It’s a shame the priest was not brought to justice sooner rather than later.

At least nobody will bow down at his feet again !

Why not? President MR can do that as he knows that he never bowed down at the feet of a Buddhist Monk seriously in his life. MR always did it for the cameras.

Pahalagama Some is a close friend of Percy Mahendra. If this happened in Sri Lanka, Some will never be charged. As Percy Mahendra instructed former Attorney General to release several perpetrators who were convicted for homicide. Rape is nothing in Sri Lanka. Over 700 abortions are being carried out in SL per day. At least a part of these young women are victims of rape cases.

Palagama Some could have had the immunity under Percy Mahendra in Sri Lanka, if he didn’t decide to live in UK. He wanted both, the crime and immunity in UK. That was his mistake. Mahendra can only watch how his close friend will be sentenced on 01.06 over the Television.

This is a very common offence amongst the Christian clergy around the world, though strangely in SriLanka, India and other third world nations, there is no such incident highlighted amongst any religious order. So dont point the finger at buddhist clergy only and Sri Lanka only.

A Venerable? Oh! Please! Thats an insult to the word. he should be stripped of everything. he is just Somaratne.

Venerable is a nice word, why get angry? I told these guys not even to send a Aachichi alone to a religious place because the situation has changed. I know some monks who watch internet pron. I know some monks who have iphones. I know some monks who sell their benz and bought a bus. i know some Puusaree who sold his vehicle to finance his brothers election campaign. This people are engaged in business. Religion is a business. Most of the monks don’t know Buddhism. Look at the Dabulla Issue. Those monks are like our Bajar Ekaa Chandiyo. They simply don’t know the ABC of Buddhism.

I would like to take issue with you re the Dambulla case. I agree that the Buddhist monks could have behaved in a more calm, respectful and intelligent manner. However, this is not to say that they should not have been assertive to protect Buddhist hetitage land that the Muslims of Lanka deliberately targets so that they can wipe out our Sinhala Buddhist history and claim country theirs. Buddhist monks should always be assertive but NOT aggressive which reflects badly on the religion although Buddha Dhamma is pristine and therefore cannot be damaged by monks misbehaving. Anybody who tries to create a link between Dhamma and misbehaving monks shows their superficial knowledge of Dhamma (ignorance) and prejudice. I will salute any monk who will be assertive against the sly land grabbing Muslims whose ultimate aim is to gradually take over the country. This they can do very easily due to OTT appeasing of minorities by the spineless, gutless and gullible Sinhalayas, their control and hold of the economy of SL, their exponential population growth which knows no bounds (esp when the GOSL is providing free education and free healthcare)and their endless illegal land grabbing which they try to legitimise by making it seem like Buddhist monks are in the wrong. When will our moda Sinhalayas learn lessons from the past 30 year history not to give into terror and bullying by minorities. If King Dutu Gamunu was alive today our moda Sinhalayas will kick him out calling him a racist. We Sinhalayas who are unable to protect their heritage deserve everything they get and see how united all the Muslims are in dishing out flak against the Buddhist monks and the Sinhala people.

        • 0
          0

If DutuGamunu is alive today he will be 3400 years old. The oldest man in the planet. The Buddha is alive he will not even look at Dabulla temple. Buddha would say. “Monks, I told you. It’s my teaching you should absorb, not the heritage.”

        • 0
          0

Seriously by lifting up the robes and showing your jewels to protect heritage? There is ZERO room in Buddhism for violence or hate. That is what Radical Jihadis engage in. The correct place for the Dambulla incident to be dealt with was in the Courts. A lot of those Buddhist monks are businessmen and charlatans hiding behind their robes just a like a lot of pedophile Catholic priests and even Pusaarees..

Dear Bodi, to a greater extent what you say is correct but don’t relate Dambulla incident to the anti-social behavior of Monks, Priests and clergy of other religious denominations. No one demolished a Muslim Masjid in Dambulla as a Mosque didn’t exist at that location. These “devotees” were praying inside a boutique.

If Buddha see his idols , sthupas , trees been worshiped he will be disappointed. We cant kill all the ” Modayas” . We have to live with them. All the Muslims are not Bin Ladin. They follow their tradition till they get their bolts tighten may be after few more generations. Same like our Buddhists who just say they are Buddhist but have know clue what it ‘ Chathrarya Sathya and it’s Arya Asttangika Marga”. And the Christians followed by Hindus. You see my friend. If I want to teach you religion I can do that but I need at least another couple of drinks from the house. This Saadu will come out after five years and he will mix with the crowd or may be he will preach again. But the bitter truth is he fooled everybody till the last minute. You guys trusted him till the last minute. Religion is the main cause for the whole world to justify a difference between humans. It creates EGO. A common sickness where there is no cure unless you get your bolts tighten by yourself. We learn good/bad by our social interaction not by a religious teacher. I would strongly suggest to treat and religious leader/monk/preast/mullaha/pooosari similar way you respect your old Guruthua ( school master ) none more than that. Because they are all men like us. So here this Mr. Somarathana has taught the Sri Lankans a very good lesson. Learn from it. This by means not to stone at your Pansaleay Hamuduruwo. See i have to be in detail and type all this after seen the incidents in Dambulla. Our people are like a special breed you see. If somebody shout there is a bomb you guys run close to the bomb. So please think think think

I don’t think that the “God” is above us. If there is a God, he must have the power to watch what is taking place on earth and prevent crimes, especially protect young children. But what now happens is this so-called God seems to have copied the conduct of some low bred people who enjoy pornography almost every night on TV and on Internet and enjoys by watching the act of pedophilia. In a world where everything is subject to change, “God” cannot be an exception.

Stupid. It was not a Mosque but a boutique registered in 1972. For many Islamic, every business place is a place of Worship but not in the other way. They see the places of worship in other religions as boutiques and encroach religious places of other faiths without having any guilty feeling. That is Islam.

This is a delicate issue. Nothing extraneous should be read into it.
The Priest should be treated with respect and the process of the law,
for whose fairness and supremacy Britain is famed for, should be allowed to take its course. While I have no intention to belittle the alleged offence, it cannot be denied many of us have our own vulnerable
moments. This incidence has nothing to do with the good and bad of Lankan Buddhism.

Senguttuvan, i just cant imaging a person in his right mind saying what you have posted. Thus is s disgrace and yo want this man clad in a saffron robe to be treated in respect? Did he respect himself? Did he respect the girls? He ruined the lives of these victims he abused and imagine this happening to you or your own family member..would you still say the same thing? Why this duplicity? Why cant you realize this man used his robe to do what he did? “Vulnerable moment” what a stupid thing to say..i pity you and like most men you are prejudiced to think that girls and women ask for trouble and should know to behave themselves.

We have heard of believers in Sri Lanka just like a buffalo heard. They respect all the religions and other similar mythical business and their head of the staff with so much respect. That includes from “Sasthra karayo to Kendara karayo”. This is a big shame for Sri lankans to have majority of our people believe this nonsonce. That’s because of our education infrastructure. So end of the day we have to blame the government. And then the President.

      Most of the Priests and the religious institutions are corrupt. It has nothing to do with the doctrine. We should not forget that religions are man made, even God. Monks are also human beings and the laws and regulations are also valid for them without exception [Edited out}

There are four people in Sri those who enjoy unlimited immunity against law and order in the country. They are:
      1. President Mahinda Rajapakse by constitution
      2. [Edited out]
3 Mervyn de Silva by licking President’s boots
4.Duminda Silva by licking asses of all four mentioned above.

Please refrain from insulting Buddhism or Bhikkus or any other religion or its practicioners because of a few incidents like this. One does not know the real truth. What has triumphed is the British legal process. That does not mean it is hundred per cent right. Please be open minded. Do not expose one’s lower side of the individual. Extend Metta or what ever its equal in one’s own religion.

I think this is a frame up.I know that the residents around the Croyden temple were not happy with a Buddhist Shrine in the vicinity.remember that the priests were constantly attacked by youngsters and the temple itself was subjected to vandalism.

Shame .the priest should refer to these incidents in an appeal and find out whether this alegations have ben made by one of those residents in the neighbourhood

SHAME! This shows justice does work in some countries of course with double standards, Sri Lanka the Wonder of Asia should wake up and try to set better examples if not very soon Monks will start running a mock in the name of Buddhism – Monks have feelings too :-) there are no strict guide lines or disciplinary control on them, they do as they please, today if you dress up like a MONK, you can get anything, so Rapist, Pedos, Gangsters, all have taken a new style “get into Monk clothing” even the Police will look the other way, example Dambulla is evident. Only “GOD” can bring peace of humanity to the Beautiful Island.
[Edited out] :-) would be a fair JUSTICE.

What? only God can bring peace to SL? What nonsense? Once upon a time, there were no Gods but only Dogs were in SL. People were happy with Dogs and the dogs too were faithful to their masters.

Then Hindu invaders introduced pantheon of Gods to SL but nothing happened as the Buddhist didn’t resist to these Gods. Arab Merchants came here with their Allah but didn’t talk much about their Allah till 1915. Then the first Europeans came with another God and that God became the God of all other Gods in Sri Lanka. Gradually, all the Old Gods in early believes, four local Gods (Hatharavaram) amongst ancient Sinhalese became Dogs as a result of European superiority.

So, tell me now! Which God or Dog can bring peace and happiness to Sri Lanka?

I find it very strange that some people use names that cannot be traced to persons living or dead because they are afraid to reval their true identities. Now why would that be. I am a proud Tamil and I can say I want the peaceful atmosphere to continue and making these utterly absurd remarks about Buddhists monks is not helping.
Has anyone every tried to mention that thousands of Roman Catholic and Anglican priests are also pedophiles or does being Christian wash them of those sins.
I suppose we like white people’s religions. I am a Hindu and Buddhism is part of us.

The Vow of Celibacy is a very difficlt code of behavior to live with, lifelong. Those who are morally weak, succumb.
This may be why hindu clergy are permitted to marry, and live in residences close to temples. But, they are not permitted to dabble in politics, charitable institutions etc, and wholly devote their time & energy to their duties in temples.
The Buddha had wanted strong willed men AND women, to carry his message to mankind. He never advocated children as young as 10 years old, to “renounce the worldly life”, as ‘samaneras’.
The Order of Bhikkunis is extinct in sri lanka but flourishes in some other countries.

Well said Sir! With your compassionate words, you have come to the top as a very kind and decent commentator in this forum. I do respect your courage to expose what the Catholic Clergy have done to young boys in the history. I say, it was not what these respective Religions have taught them but this is what they have commenced to their own faiths.

Anglicans can marry, it is the Catholics, particularly the Irish, German & US priests

      Philiphines, Portugal rarely

Ita unfortunate in SL Buddist priests are into this way more than Catholic priests

Like the Irish PM who addressed these crimes of their church in a parlimentary national assembly in 2011, we ought to do the same

Its gone too far, not just abuse, there are murders, even PM murders, racism, discrimination (rice-mud, pot-mud), Budha’s message/image has been tarnished and the country has been misled/betrayed.

    • 0

Roman Catholic and Anglican priests around the world are accused of this kind of criminal acts but are never investigated. In Melbourne it is discovered that 41 of those child victims have killed themselves and the government refuses to appoint a royal commission to investigate. In USA all the investigations were wiped off after the visit of Pope John Paul 11. Justice system can be given 5 star rating if the accused is a Buddhist monk but not if it is a catholic priest.
This is only a isolated incident. We should not insult religions.
Justice system in western world is not as clean as we are made to believe.

!Yesterday two women who were supporting the priest daily at the courts were weeping after hearing the conviction! What a drama! At last the British justice for a paedophile!
What a shame for all those character witnesses to the priest? Eminent Doctors and other professionals from the Srilankan diaspora!!!
What were they thinking?just because their children were not abused is it right to abuse any child?
There are few others who are 100% certain this has been going on for sometime with other children.

You ppl are unbelievable. How the hell you drag MR, British Government and ” Yannea Koheda ? Mallea Pol” type scenarios to this issue? The whole God stories are from three major books written and edited by tribal men. The Torahs or the first testament and then the King James Bible and then the Quran. They all have created a supreme powered character which is God Al Mighty who make us and watching us and punishing/rewarding us. And this is all imagination of man to explain our mysterious nature when we were just farmers/goat herders. Now that the I see there is need of replacing our science education ministers. MR should tighten the bolt’s of our education system to fit into a global stranded. I blame all the previous education ministers for this .

Hello Dude ‘S Mahinda’ , I have been watching all your post here and everywhere you say ” sly land grabbing Muslims whose ultimate aim is to gradually take over the country.” You must be a delusional monk a Yellow robed Vampire.

When I look at the majority of the Muslims in Sri Lanka I only feel pity for the lot, they are like a rudderless ship wandering just to eke out a living in difficult times. They even don’t have any organized assistance, forget about organized violence like the monks lead. For your info when you see them in bad state you cant simply say thank God they are not Buddhist. The world sees them as Sri Lankans and it is Sri Lanka that is shamed. In this jathakaya you are born a racist, do you know in your next janme what you will be born. I pray you be born a Muslim so you know how humiliating to be born a Muslim in racist Lanka.

If there is a hell in Buddism I am sure the lord Buddah will reserve the first seat for you there. Dont go spreading unfounded rumors like “Muslims want to take over the country”.

Because Alla The Lord Al Mighty who spoke to Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) told him to tell his people to marry more than 12 women and make lot of babies. So they can’t simply denies the God’s message.

It was not Somarama who killed Bandaranayike but a Catholic agent namely Ossie C. The conspiracy went on with great victory to the Church. That is why people still say that a Buddhist Monk killed the PM in 1959.

The one who does not commit any crime should throw the first stone. Looks like a big drama. Seems to have offered first herself and secondly blackmailed that and earned money and thirdly got new money to file a case after finding new sex-partners!

This is not a Buddhist issue but an issue of someone who betrayed trust. Look at how the CATHOLIC Church protected pedophile priests in t he US and Ireland. In Ireland the government apologized for crimes against children that were covered up with connivance with the Police. In the US hundreds of priests were moved from parish to parish to cover their rape and abuse of boys over decades. Even the Pope finally admitted to this crime. Very few of these rapists have been prosecuted. The Boston Catholic paid off the victims to a tune of $5BILLION in out of court settlements to keep it silent with agreements not to talk to the press so the victims got money.

In Dambulla the Head Mahanayake Thera committed 4 criinal offences with the complicity of the Police. The 4 crimes are

1 Unlawful Assembly 2 Criminal Damage 3 Criminal Trespass and 4 Criminal Intimidation.

The government says all these were done by the monk to protect Budhism which leads to the noble path.

In any religion there are priest of this nature . Not now, even during even in the olden days. Some making comments on this issue are behaving like monitor lizards when it sees a decomposed dead body of a cow or bull as if it has happened for the first time .
