Breaking News:President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Commonwealth Speech Has Been Cancelled

By Colombo Telegraph –

Rajapaksa

“After careful consideration the morning sessions of the Forum on Wednesday 6th of June have been cancelled and will not take place. The event will therefore commence with lunch at 1300hrs followed by the originally planned afternoon sessions beginning at 1400hrs.” Diamond Jubilee Commonwealth Economic Forum  announced a short while ago.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa is to make a Special address at the Commonwealth Economic Forum organized by the Commonwealth Business Council and the City of London tomorrow morning. Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation has broadcast the following news an hour ago; “President Mahinda Rajapakse and Madam Shiranthi Rajapakse participated in a special thanks giving service at the St. Paul Cathedral in London. A huge crowd attended this service which was held inline with the diamond jubilee of the queen’s coronation. The president also participated in the welcome ceremony for heads of state organized in the Buckingham palace yesterday. The president was scheduled to meet Commonwealth General Secretary Kamalesh Sharma and Director General of Commonwealth Allen Collins today. President Rajapakse will address the business forum tomorrow morning organized by the Commonwealth economic association. Leaders from 54 Commonwealth countries have arrived in London for the diamond jubilee celebrations.”

In December 2010, during the president’s last visit to the United Kingdom, his planned address to the Oxford Union debating society was cancelled.

In a statement at the time, President Rajapakse said “I am very sorry this has had to be cancelled, but I will continue to seek venues in the UK and elsewhere where I can talk about my future vision for Sri Lanka.” Tomorrow’s speech was to have been his first such address in the UK since the Oxford event was cancelled.

Sadly NiV is yet one more blogger here who cannot make out between the woods and the trees. When I suggested MR call up a Press Conference I know what I was doing. The capacity, ability and the courage of leaders in debate and discussion with the foreign press is far too well known. How many overseas or local Press briefings of the man are you aware of – except the few monosyllabic answers and that too more in the realms of comedy? Just about the only President we had who was upto it was JRJ, and to a lesser extent, CBK – both sufficiently schooled, read and in full control of the lingua franca.

If I may say so, with due respect you are expecting too much from a hopeless lot.

It is alleged that a number of Tamil Diaspora members had bought tickets at £900 per head for the Mansion House speech to be given by President Rajapakse to heckled him.
Organisers having obtained that information cancelled the Morning Session to avoid further embarrassment to the President.

While BelPottinger speech lies in the gutter gathering dust the SL tax payers money too drained in the London drain. The trip has gained nothing for the country except the opposite for all the wrong reasons. Not met any one influencial {except for the FMS briefing} for a state talk or atleast in favour of our country. What we saw, read, and heard on the media had tarnished the name of SRILANKA AND THE SELF PUBLICIT PRESIDENT. We have to take the responsibility for creating this baffoonistic euphoria. The anger of the Tamils will not disappear overnight. They have lost their husbands wives children etc in the hands of this genocidal regime. Both sides can argue until the cows comes home. The facts needs to be addressed. Until then SriLanka can keep on doing the window dressing but the TRUTH will NOT disappear. It will haunt SRILANKA until thats been addressed. You can be king and queen in your own little world of Srilanka but you’re not king and queen of the world but PARIAH’S of the world.Do not live in FANTASY.We tax payers in this country too wasted millions on protecting this baffoon and his wife .

The GHOSTS of the war dead will HAUNT srilanka forever.T he same as the wars centuries ago happened in our paradise island between ancient kings created nothing good for our country. It looks the bloodshed during the war centuries ago has a CURSE. Even when the country begins to prosper the CURSE takes over. A bad cycle. The monks have a lot to answer for the situation.
