Minister of National Coexistence Dialogue and Official Languages and Colombo District Parliamentarian Mano Ganesan called the Sinhala civil society to have a look at the Batticaloa Buddhist monk Ampitiye Sumanarathana of Mangalarama Temple who abused the Grama Sevaka Niladhari few days ago.
The minister in an open letter to the Sadharana Samajayak (National Movement for Social Justice), Professor Sarath Wijesooriya, Sisira Jayamaha, Palitha Lihiniyakumara, R.S.Jayarathna, J.C. Waliamuna Rev.Father Ried Shelton Fernando, Lal Wijenayake, Dr. Jayantha Dhanapala, Saman Rathnapriya, Gamunu Wijerathne, Richard Thanippuliarachchi and Wasantha Kulathunge, urged to have look a at the 2.23 minute video where the monk is abusing the government servant.
“What shall we do on this? What is your stand? I am a Cabinet minister in this government. Besides, I am the Minister for National Coexistence Dialogue and Official Languages. I am not impotent. I demand action,” he lashed out.
He said he has seen worst cases than this during the last regime.
“I have come through the murderous path of the former regime. Therefore I will not think twice to open my mouth. But I am requested to maintain patience.
“The usual theory is that, “such are isolated incidents. And they need to be ignored. If responded such would disturb the good governance path of the government”. Therefore, anybody in robe and also in uniform go scot-free. They have the impunity.
“If I demand action it will be easily twisted as a Tamil against Sinhala Buddhists. But if the right thinking Sinhalese are going to maintain silence we will have no option. When Respectful Ven. Sobitha Thera formed his organization National Movement for Social Justice (NMSJ), and announced it at a media conference at the library services hall, I was seated on his right. I translated the name title of his organization in Tamil. Now we are not there as we are engaged in other activities. But I am glad you gentlemen are carrying his flag steadily.
While opposing and campaigning against corruption, why don’t NMSJ also campaign against the racism and in this case here filthy racism? Let us face the fact. BBS general secretary was taken to courts some time before, when it occurred in the south between Sinhala based political and social forces. But when such hate speech and communal action of such kinds occur against the Non-Sinhala Buddhist, they are tolerated. It is an indirect license to communalism against minorities. Hooligans are given informal nod to continue with their hate campaign. “Jathiwadaya Walakweeme Panatha” (Counter-Communalism Act), is the sensible idea.
But we need to push for it. We need acts to counter terrorism as well as counter communalism too. Weeks before, an innocent Tamil family was manhandled and threatened by the mob led by a monk in Rathmalana.
In another incident few hooligans used filthy threatening language against Muslim community in daylight in front of the Fort Railway station. All are in the face book social media obtaining large numbers of ‘likes’. Where are we, as a country going from here? I am bombarded by the queries of Tamil and Muslim communities. I wish we have a discussion to plan action on this so that I can inform the alarmed the members of Tamil and Muslim communities, that progressive right thinking people in the south are attending to your worries. These behaviors will be continued to be encouraged, as long as small fragment of Buddhists who share similar ideology based on mislead propaganda, support that behaviors.

It is right and proper that Mano Ganesan has referred this incident to the NMSJ, and it is incumbent on that body to respond. In fact what we need are quick and unequivocal responses from our national leaders, and people in high positions, to speak out clearly against this evil cancer, that is slowly spreading and threatening to, once again, engulf us all into a dog-eat-dog situation.
It is not just Ampitiya Sumane (of the latest Batticaloa outburst) but many other incidents in recent years that have gone unchecked. Sihala Ravaya, and a myriad other individual imitators now feel empowered to continue at will. Indeed, there is clear evidence that some powerful politicians are openly siding with these evil people. We must continue to name and shame them.
Who can explain the paradox that a minority of foul-mouthed tic-turds donning saffron robes can highjack a religion, its people, and a whole nation, and lead them pied-piper-like to a miserable future founded on suspicion, misery, hate and violence.
Those who travel, will find that the events in Sri Lanka (and Burma) have cast a dark cloud over the political and Buddhist leadership in these countries. The result is a bad smell over the Noble Message.

Sumanthiran says that Sampanthar said that there will be a secret solution before end of 2016. On the 19th of this month sharp at 9:00 the secret is going to be released. I do not know if Sumanthiran knows the meaning of submitting interim report before the end 2016 and finding solution before end 2016. The people who criticise against Ven.Sumanarathana thero of Mangalaramaya in Batticaloa never think or scared to accept the fact that this monk is the only “voice” for the Sinhalese living in Batticaloa district under immense pressure from tamil officials and the TNA politicians and their henchmen. Because of the third class treatment getting from government officials,the poor Sinalese gather around this monk. Who are these innocent people? They are the people who living in Keviliyamaduwa,Gamunupura,Mangalagama,Pulukkuluwa,Sippimaduwa. The TNA politicians and hardline tamils want to chase these people away from Batticaloa district to rob their lands. These people living in this areas since 1970’s. In 1991 government detached Gemunupura,Magalagama,Keviliyamaduwa and Pulukkulma from Batticaloa district and attached to Ampara district because majority living in these villages were Sinhalese. But later on to satisfy the TNA politicians in Batticaloa and get their support, government re-attached these villages to Batticaloa district. And then the war escalated and people living in that area abandon their properties and fled the area.
After 2009 people came to their habitats again and try to settle down. But government officials do not accept them as people lived that area and even refuse to issue an identity card to them. The previous Government or this government neglect these people and only person they can tell their grievences and hardships is the Sumanarathana thero. And monk fought with the government agents,officials numerous times frst peacefully and when his requests turned down he became frustrated and angry. So what any person do when he was subjected to third class treatment in his own country by minorities? This monk is not fighting to get a Mercedes Benz or a brand new Land Cruiser the present government providing to their favourable Monks like Malwatte or Rathana thero. This monk is fighting for poor Sinhalese and to protect ancient Buddhist sacred places in the East.
Yes monks language is abusive and sometimes filthy. But when you subjected to a extreme, you cannot expect a decent mannered monk like Malwatte thero. I too see that all are only looking at the abusive words the monk is using . You are absolutely correct. The Sinhalese are a minority in these areas , but they do not get the same privileged treatment minorities get in other parts of Sri Lanka where the majority are Sinhalese. These innocent people are cultivation not to become millionaires but to feed their families at least one meal aday. In wilpattu huge areas of lands are being cleared illegally to provide settlements and nothing is being done. Only these innocent people are chased away ( moreover ethnic cleansing ) . Thats the reason the monk got aggressive on the state that the Sinhalese are being treated in their own country. Most of the Sinhala people who comment , I am sure has not even seen the full video nor knows the real issue behind this. I do not endorse abusive language by this monk which is unbecoming for the robe , but when you are pushed to a corner thats how any saint behaves !! There are lots fertile land in the Sinhalese south and these so called innocent people can cultivate them there, instead coming all the way to the north and east to squat and cultivate lands belonging to innocent poor Tamil peasants who are very poor too. By the way who is funding all these so called poor innocent people who do not have any money to travel around to various places in the north and east, especially strategic and border villages to squat and steal lands from the Tamils and in some cases the Tamil Muslims? These people are not from the area but have a very good knowledge as to where to go and steal land. All these so called innocent people do not have any money or food or energy to cultivate lands in their own areas in the south of the country but have lots of energy money food to travel to specific villages and towns in the north and east to setup camp purchase food and steal lands from the innocent starving Tamil peasants, to cultivate food. We can see how innocent and starving this nasty evil Buddhist priest was travelling around in a jeep. Whose funding all this and why are they so brazen racist evil and aggressive. They are so innocent and starving that they have the arms to chase the Tamils out their lands set up camp have food, set up a Buddhist temple and even provide a jeep for their racist monk! Whom are you trying to fool? These are all well organised and well funded schemes by powerful Sinhalese Buddhist establishments and organisations to steal ethnically cleanse and colonise the remaining Tamil majority areas, as the Tamils are now weak and helpless with no one caring for them. A racist Sinhalese occupying army and police are there to help them. This incident is one in a thousand and only created a furore as it was recorded and went viral.

Saffron clad treasure hunters too steal our heritage. Many monks in remote areas sell their collection of medieval oola manuscripts to foreign tourists, the armed forces have destroyed many buildings that once had ancient and medieval inscriptions. They burnt Jaffna public library along with old oola manuscripts.
In the article you cited above the Assistant director of Archaeology had assured that he would look into the matter.
It is a matter for the state to deal with, police and archaeological department to investigate, and courts to judge, not for the saffron clad thug to abuse the poor Gramasevaka.
I haven’t heard or read anywhere anytime that the monk has been seen protesting about the destruction of our national heritage of other communities. Why is that? I have not seen him protesting against the syndicate of police/politician/illegal treasure hunters looting our national heritage.
Lets come back to the issue at hand.
The topic being discussed here is the pattern of this yellow clad thug’s behaviour. Other issues are secondary and leave it to the state to take appropriate action against the misconduct of people connected with others.

The issue here is the legal ownership of the land. It should be honestly dealt with by the state and its functionaries based on hard evidence, not by a thuggish yellow robed person, whose pattern of behaviour is well known.
If people couldn’t afford a piece of bread its a serious problem and state has to be ashamed of such lack of humanity and responsibility.

All these so called villages were only recently settled by Sinhalese on stolen Tamil lands. Just look at the names of most of the so called villages, all Sinhalese versions of the original Tamil names. You illegally settle Sinhalese along border Tamil villages and then attack these villages to the neighbouring Sinhalese majority district. This is also ethnic cleansing.. Keep on doing this and make the ancient Tamil Hindu majority district of Batticaloa, that heartland of the east Sinhalese too. Just like what you have done to huge chunks of Trincomalee and Amarai districts that were all Tamil majority a few decades ago.
