Candidacy: Why A Karu-JHU-CBK-SF Option Is Better Than Ranil

By Dayan Jayatilleka

Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka

Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka

The best, as they say, must not be the enemy of the good. I have long advocated that the best kind of candidacy for the Opposition would have been or would be a KaruSajith or Sajith-Karu ticket, i.e. a ticket that symbolized the UNP Reformist option of 2011-2013. That ticket no longer exists. That bitter fact is probably far more Karu’s fault than that of anyone else, but right now, all that must be regarded as water under the bridge.

Given that reality, I think that a Sajith candidacy would be the best for the UNP and the Opposition. That too seems unlikely to materialize unless the UNP suddenly comes to its senses and holds a secret ballot among its elected representatives.

This being absent from the agenda, the choice seems to come down to a Ranil candidacy or a Karu one. Of the two, a Ranil candidacy is the weakest because it would be the most vulnerable to regime propaganda attack which will have a wide social resonance.

Speaking strictly for myself, I cannot think of a single reason to support Ranil over Mahinda if that is indeed the choice, and conversely, I can see quite a few reasons to continue to support Mahinda critically. If however, the choice is Karu versus Mahinda, especially if Karu is backed by the JHU and SF and has the tacit support or has secured the neutrality of the JVP, things become less clear and much more complicated, which is a good thing.

If the choice were Ranil, Sajith, or Karu, I would definitely support Sajith, but if the real choice at the Presidential election is Ranil supported by Sajith, or Karu supported by the JHU, I may still support Mahinda, but would recommend the Karu plus JHU, CBK, SF slate as the better option for the opposition and the country.

Why so? This is because a Karu+JHU+SF slate would end the old polarization of ‘patriot vs. traitor’, or more accurately ‘patriot vs. appeaser’. This polarization blocks Sri Lanka’s postwar evolution and sustains the mindset of a martial mock-monarchy. It must be stressed though that polarization is both unavoidable and relevant as long as Ranil is the candidate and available choice. This historical reality cannot be decisively altered by Sajith’s support for Ranil’s candidacy.

If the dominant ethos remains unchanged, Sri Lanka will fail to evolve into the 21st century and will be defeated in the Cold War waged by the secessionist Tamil Diaspora and its international allies. Sri Lanka will crash into the reality of the outside world and be sundered. Throwing up a moderate nationalist alternative – a Hassan Rowhani or Narendra Modi option–in domestic politics is in the vital national interest of Sri Lanka. Ranil Wickremsinghe is not it.  Sajith Premadasa would be it but he has not tossed his hat into the ring. That leaves Karu backed by the JHU as the closest possible, if vague, approximation.

If the UNP and the Opposition have any sense, the guiding thought at the moment would be “anyone but Ranil”. If the Opposition candidate is Ranil, there will be a collective groan and potentially anti-regime voters will stay at home. If it is Karu with the JHU playing a role similar to that of Wimal Weerawansa and the JVP in 2005, the Presidential election may turn into a real contest, in which a Mahinda victory is highly probable but not a foregone conclusion as it is in the case of a Ranil candidacy.

SLFP dissidents are far more likely to shift to Karu than to Ranil. So too UNP defectors, given that it was Ranil they defected from in the first place. Even if he loses, the Opposition would have been brought together and the momentum generated to defeat the Government at a parliamentary election or a preceding referendum.

The Karu candidacy project has two weaknesses which could cripple it politically, socially and electorally.  One is the failure to win over Sajith Premadasa. The JHU input into a Karu campaign cannot bring in the Sinhala Buddhist vote; it can bring in the Sinhala Buddhist Goigama urban and suburban vote in what Prof Kumar David has called the Dharmapala belt. It is only Sajith Premadasa who can bring in the underprivileged Sinhala Buddhists, who perceive themselves under privileged not only or primarily as Sinhala Buddhists but as the poorer classes and as rural dwellers.

The second crippling weakness is the commitment to the abolition of the Executive Presidency. It is nothing but constitutional nihilism, leaving a power vacuum at the center. What is saddest is that Karu has the perfect alternative to such over-simplistic formulae. It was he, with distinguished lawyer KN Choksy as deputy, who led the UNP delegation into the protracted talks with Chandrika Kumaratunga’s administration that resulted in the only real bipartisan consensus this country has ever produced, namely the August 2000 draft Constitution.  That consensus was destroyed and that draft actually set aflame by Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe’s UNP. If ever the Executive Presidency could have been abolished with a well thought out alternative to replace it, albeit with a decent transitional interval, it was in August 2000. The man who aborted it was Ranil Wickremesinghe who now seeks to run on the platform of abolishing the executive presidency.  It is a pity that Karu Jayasuriya has failed to take his own achievements of the August 2000 draft and the later 17th amendment as the main planks of the platform for broad opposition unity.

Ranil would be a sitting duck for the regime’s heavy artillery while Karu supported by the JHU would be a moving target. Personally I may still opt for – and even commend–Mahinda Rajapaksa with the centripetal Jayewardene Presidency over Karu Jayasuriya without it, but Mahinda must surely be given a run for his money. A Karu candidacy would rattle the regime’s cage far more than a Ranil one would, and that cage badly needs rattling.

You have only one master DJ and we all know its Mahinda Percy! Don’t try to con us. You’re on a personal vendetta against Ranil Wickramasinghe which is apparent on every little thing you write. Why the bitterness??

      1

The vendetta is because he was stripped naked atkannatte at I think Ossie’s or Ranjan Wijeratne’s or some other funeral. This guy has been placed to attack any opposition that would come to MR, so read in between the lines of his writing and you will know that he is worse than the Chief Justice – Moham Peris and the cartoon drawn about Mohan Peries could be easily replaced by this ….

consider this , all most all the opposition parties hates this man , majority of MR goons don’t like him either , so who has he got ? he might need to get some police protection in an event where MR is forced to give up the power, or else Most probably repetition of Boralle Kanatte drama is awaiting for this double tongued , self proclaimed political scientist .

      Dear Dayan,

For starters, nobody cares about what YOU think anymore.

Next time you see a man and a woman together and whom you dislike, please don’t go telling them how they should screw each other.

Might be a good idea for you to start looking for your livelihood in your dying days…. in a dignified manner this time though.

      God bless.

It is now the responsibility of the Sinhala/Buddhist religious police under BBS headed by Gnanasara the saffron clad thug.

“Might be a good idea for you to start looking for your livelihood in your dying days…. in a dignified manner this time though.”

Before he retires he needs to apologize to the people for zealously promoting the war and denying war crimes and crimes against humanity.

He also has to come clean about his EPRLF days.

The Malawatu Chapter’s Hewa Salpita Korale the vice chief head of Bikkhus, and General Secretary of the United Bikkhu Front Bopitiye Dhammissara thera had said addressing a media briefing that, if not for the leadership given by Member of parliament Karu Jayasuriya to the president and encouraging him we would not have been able to win the war.In that context the strength given by him was enormous and he is the real hero in winning the war.He should therefore be given to contest the presidential election as the common candidate was conveyed to the leader of UNP Ranil Wickremasinghe.

DJ may have special reasons for himself to keep proposing Sajith’s name. Taking the present circumstances and the need to abolish executive presidency, Karu J, by far the best choice the opposition groups could make. Ranil, Sajith and the entire UNP must support him wholeheartedly by which UNP can gain power under a revised constituition where Ranil could be the PM and Sajith holding an important portfolio.

    • 3
      1

If Sajith doesnt support a Karu nomination, he should be kicked out so that he could go and continue liking the Maharaja’s. It is time that the country woke up to the manipulations of the media mafia combine of tiran and maharajas who are fulfilling a contract to destroy the opposition ordered by MR

    • 5
      1

I don’t believe Karu who switched sides twice should be the candidate .

He is not a man of integrity. I cannot believe the UNP even considering him as an option.

    • 0
      0

DCN…. I totally agree with you that Karu. J. fits into that position
of President, as he is educated, had been an experienced diplomat who can rally round the other countries with whom we are in conflict with, and committed far less political sins than the other politicians who are aspiring to become country’s President. He also has the knack and diplomatic approach to rally round other opposition parties. He has the support of the Buddhists clergy and minority parties .The more UNP delays the selection,in consultation with leading opposition parties, the more, the people will lose interest in giving their support to the common candidate.

Sajith is young and inexperienced and people will understand this and Ranil has a record of election losses, and these two should publicly give their whole hearted support to KJ so that people should not suspect a division in the party, so why is the hold up to announce the prospective common candidate. The “slow coach” UNP should wake up to realities and come to an early decision before its too late.

  • 11
    1

what nonsense is this again DJ.,

Sajith is a moron who have absolutely no capacity to act like a common candidate and just an immature and uneducated, foot in the mouth syndrome who cannot get the UNP united at all.

Sajith P is just a pawn of the Rajapaksas and with Tiran Alles a shameless deal maker for the Rajapaksas are playing into Rajapaksa game plan to disturb the mass uprising against the Rajapaksa junta regime.

The way forward is to get Karu J put forward as the common candidate with the backing of UNP and all other parties who believe in a better future for the future generations of Sri Lanka as the mess carried out my the Rajapaksas will take years to fix and the starting point is to kick them out.

    Mahinda- the ‘Critical’ choice???

    Dayan,

Are you listening to a cross section of the people? The Anagarika Dharmapala belt supported JHU has bolted the UPFA this morning. They obviously are responding to the rising voice of the people. The tide has turned and it is obviously going to be strong that only those who have the skills to swim with tide will survive it. None of the political equations you have presented will have the capacity, intellect and ability to do this.

The pro-LTTE, appeaser, traiter you are attaching to Ranil is infantile and exposes your political bias. It is because of Ranil’s peace trap that MR was able to defeat and annihilate the LTTE, with international support and tangible help. Further, who is the real appeaser/traiter, the one who is alleged to have paid a bribe to the LTTE, is mollycoddling LTTE big wigs, using the surviving LTTE cadres as spies and making reconciliation between communities more and more difficult by the day? Why did the LTTE prefer MR over RW? Please answer this question.

I supported MR in the last election because I had the hope that he was determined to solve the so-called ‘National Question’ through the APRC proposals. Further, he was definitely a better choice for the country than Sarath Fonseka. I am now disgusted with MR, because his bold faced lying, pretense, prevarications, misgovernance and absolute lack of ethics.

The only choice now is Ranil among the array you are backing. He is the best among them and I hope he also does not smash my hopes for a better country, if he is elected.

      Dr.Rajasingham Narendran ,

in this world there are slow learners , quick learners and dumb learners , figure out which category you belong to Dear doctor !
Ranil is a decent, educated western style politician suitable for a western country but SL is not a western country , SL majority (70%)people live in rural areas and never use their heads when it comes to elections , they are emotionally charged lot and selfishness is in their blood , just go through every election result , you will see what i mean , example Dayasiri Jayasekara , he used to be the number one attacker for MR and his government , one fine day he decided to call it quit and swapped the sides to contest NW provincial council election from the ruling side , result unprecedented victory for Dayasiri and for the regime , what does it say about the majority voters ! how about new kid on the block jehan Fernando’s overwhelming victory (minister johnston’s son )

Ranil is MR’s preferred option and CBK & Ven MS would be his night mare , since both CBK & VEN MS out of the race , next obstacle is karu , he would do every thing and any thing to eliminate Karu from the race , just think why Paba has been elevated to the current position ? why government ministers want Ranil to contest ? why Sajith wants Ranil to contest under the Elephant symbol ? Ranil is an easy target for the government propaganda , can the country as a whole take such a risky decision?

        Sri Lal,

It is possible I am dumb. However, on the basis that I have lived with, played with and associated with more Sinhalese in many places in the island than with Tamils, I will say that they are people who know right from wrong. The rural Sinhalese have always voted on bread and butter issues than on constitutional and governance issues. In their name many crimes have been commited by their politicians. They have not sinned, but have been sinned against.

Further, the rural Sinhalese are no longer the village rustics that many assume them to be. They have come of age. They are no longer behind their city counterparts in dress, mannerisms, thinking, education and gadget use. I am in Sri Lanka and travel around quite a bit. My understanding of the rural Sinhalese is quite different from that of many Tamils and even their Sinhala city cousins. Even at the forth coming elections the bread and butter issues will over-ride other concerns. The opposition has to take advantage of this sentiment and add spice to what they offer with other issues.

Further, having studied, worked and travelled in the West, I wuld say what is good for the West, East, North or the South global positioning-wise, will be good anywhere. If Ranil is good for the West he will be good for Sri Lanka. If has a fraction of the genes his uncle Bishop lakshman Wickremasinghe carried, he will be different to all the leaders, we have hitherto had.

I think Ramil should be given a chance to prove his mettle. Even if he does not do much good, he cannot do us any more harm.

“RW is the best for the country to achieve real democracy and development “

sure he is , but can he win the elections under these circumstances ? can the Grass eating majority think the way you think or will they use their heads ? for them , it’s a matter of having a tar road , getting an employment for one family member some where , helping to admit their children to a better school , fertilizer subsidy , having a better school at their village , having a decent suspension bridge to cross the river or a quick relief (three wheel Tyre , water pump, job application or a few thousand Rupee notes etc) etc, but would never bother about good governance , law & order , international image , inflation rate , FDI , GDP , debt etc etc ! as far they can see , The country had been rescued from LTTE terrorists by the king while RW has been helping to create “Elam” , so they don’t give monkeys about other insignificant little little things , basically they have got their country back and every thing else is secondary !

ofcourse i don’t mean every single village folk think this way , but definitely the majority ,for them Ranil is a traitor and a loser , period !

          Sri Lal,

According to Ceylon Today of 18/11/2014, even Gnanasara of the BBS opines that Ranil is the best common candidate! Someone is up to new mischief! Who could it be?

Yes,can understand where you come from.Ranil is the decnt choice we have put it that way.We are going to have ademocratic society if he becomes the leader. However he is an unlikely horse to win as our people vote for vocal skills and propoganda largely rather than logic and sense.
Sadly corruption has plagued our political system and Rajapakse clan thrived on it.It is unlikely that they are going to hand over power by decent means and they will try all the tricks under the sun to rob this election.I dont think opposition can find a suitable candidate to combat that kind of situation. My hear says to be hope ful but brain becomes pessimistic knowing the ground reality.

every single government Minister/MP lackey prefers RW , wonder why ? have you ever thought about it ? Ranil has a huge target sign on his back and standing still , that’s the reason Doctor !

for many “game bayyas” Ranil is a traitor who betrayed the country and MR is the modern “Dutu gamunu” who saved the country from LTTE terrorists.

        • 0
          0

          Dr. RN, copy. Sri Lal,

Do not agree with Dr. RN’s analysis on
the basis the rural Sinhala masses give their votes. They look
to personality(False pretence) and the promises(usually False), he or she gives in their manifestos and the recent UVA and the NPC elections are good examples. Personality cult plays an important role in SL elections, which ever political party, one belongs to and rural people do not look into party policies. It is very strange that there was never an occasion that a party came to power defeating a govt. in power on bread and butter issue, apart from communal politics. Bala Tampoe,Peter Kennuman
& Dr.NM & Co. shouted from roof tops and made thundering speeches in Parliament and political & labour rallies on rising cost of living and did the people vote them to power.?

Ordinary people in SL had never got into a habit of voting for
a just cause, unlike in the West or for that matter,India. They
may vote for religion, language or for a majority rule over the minorities but never, they voted on bread and butter issue. did not the cost of living, skyrocketed before the last elections?.
It was the Ltte issue that brought the last govt.into power.

As Sri Lal rightly said that Ranil could fit into a Western
style of politics as he has not got the cunningness to grab
votes on false promises and he does not have the full support of the Buddhist clergy but Karu fits in as he is considered ‘Rural” and not elite and he gets the full support of the clergy and probably, both minorities under prevailing political situation.

It is pointless fielding ‘also ran’ candidates as only a formidable opposition common candidate could challenge the might
of the incumbent, who had already gone half way into the EP campaign, while the opposition is still groping in the dark to select a common candidate. Ranil should give way as he will never be thrown under the bus, who ever wins the EP election.

On behalf of the great majority of the inhabitant population who live in peace and harmony now. I wish people like Dr Dayan with their so called expertise and ability to crystal ball in to our future , would give us a clear picture of the disaster which is awaiting if these schemers in the Opposition manage to wrest power from the President.

Look at Libya. Frightened , displaced, innocent poor inhabitants are everywhere.

This is one of the largest Oil producers who had the best , health, education and welfare system in the World.

But all those benefits have now disappeared , but the Oil wealth hasn’t .

It is just a change in ownership.

    And who owns them?

They are none other than Cameron , Harper , the Frog Eater and Obama.

    Of course not directly.

But the War lords, six of them in total who own this wealth now make sure the Oil Profits are funnelled to the West.

We don’t have oil or Gas yet..

But we will have War Lords for sure.

That is what our inhabitants face if any of your choices get hold of power?.

It will be LTTE ,Foonny , JHU, JVP and Drug Barons who will call the shots.

It will be a like a re run of Ranil and the Cousin show, with more vigour and venom to take revenge, even on behalf of the Diaspora..

Potta Naufer may even become the Mayor if his stooges carry out the contracts on the Current Govt leaders and supporters.

And it will be all in the South as the Vellalas have already stitched up deals with who ever in the Opposition to give them self rule in the North..

The great news is that Tamil language has now been traced to Indus Valleym with some certainty. The very bad news is that Indus Valley is in the present day Pakistan.

Tamils can go back to Pakistan and the Sinhala speaking Demelas have choice, Bengal, Tamil Nadu or Indus Valley. Where do you want to send your Sinhala speaking Demelas?

Do you prefer them be sent to Swat Valley?

It is going to cost us a fortune to relocate your people Tamils and Sinhalese.

Well, the alternative must be so compelling that Mahinda feels ashamed not to step aside. That is the kind of firepower that is being demanded as an answer to Mahinda’s artillery.

Mahinda must fear people topple him unless he gives the alliterative the chance. Ranil is far from this.

UNP will be damaged beyond repair is loses the 24th time. I do not think the UNP will ever recover with another defeat. Its in everyones’ interest UNP produce a viable leader.

Obviously DJ is helping MR by bringing KJ instead of Ranil.

MR can beat his own minister KJ EASILY than Ranil today.

Ranil today is not Ranil 10 years ago. Now people realize his potential in peace time.

I think to increase the chance of winning more votes, the Opposition ought to have a larger alliance – of about 1,500- not just 4 or 5 as the writer suggests, and after winning, appoint the President on a rotational basis.. say bout 1 day and few minutes to each person over the 4 year term..
If only each candidate manages to brings in, say, 5,000 votes, that will add up to a massive a 7.5 million votes and our beloved 1,500 Presidents will be laughing all the way to their banks..

    Dear Dayan,
Whatabout you? You can be one of the candidate too. Then MR dont have to come! Everyone in the country knows who you are and what you are. Try to think something useful for everyone..

Dayan Jayatilleka is desperate. He now sees the impending fall of his hero MR. JHU is out. Rajitha will resign tomorrow.Dayan dreads Ranil coming to power in a UNP-led opposition. He is therefore proposing weak characters like Karu, Sajith and the Chaura Regina.Dayan you had better find refuge in Australia along with the blackguard Mohan Peiris. If Australia doesn’t take you try Seychelles

RW and SP both will be disastrous for SL.

DJ, the self proclaimed modernist, must tell us precisely why he thinks SP is presidential timber. He is touted as getting the non-goigama vote, but if two goigamas contest each other, what options have the other castes got? Does DJ want SL to be governed by a petulant mediocrity remote controlled by the evil and sinister Killi Mahendren? When will SP shave his eyebrows and bring in the Kerela witch doctors? Apart from the speculation that SP will get a caste based vote, there isn’t a shred of evidence that SP is intellectually or morally fit to lead the country into modernity.

As for the Eunuch, the less said the better. As the Leader of the Opposition, he has been served more full tosses than Kholi but has preferred to ignore these and remain in the good books of MR and enjoy holidays at taxpayer expense. He is the most amoral politician in S L today. No passion, no principles, no shame.

Any one of us would have done a much better job as leader of the opposition. This is the tragedy of the UNP, both SJ and the Eunuch are such cardboard figures.

Poor poor Dayan, getting desperate are we?

    Care to explain the following?

    1) The fake LSE degree? Yep, we need such characters for the future of the country !

    2) Why he is was scared to contest the Southern PC election?

Still wanting recognition, getting none…..what a sad state of affairs !

Ranil Wickremasinghe and those nitwits who want to see the present Government gone, but are foul mouthing RW. Please note:

The UNP is the only party having sufficient mass support to dislodge the ruling junta. See result of the last Uva elections.

Since the demise of Dudley Senanayake the UNP did not have a worthy leader to provide leadership to take the country on a just and equitable path. JR was a selfish megalomaniac, who foolishly paved the way for the current megalomaniac.

Despite all that, the UNP has still retained a block voter base in the country. Regardless of who leads the party the UNP is the only party that is capable of exorcising the Evil governing our country. Whoever is the leader of the party does not matter. With even a minimum of co-operation from the rest of the Opposition, the party will win. Ranil should forthwith meet with them and reach an accord.

Ranil Wickremasinghe happens to be the Party Leader. Accept him as such. This is the wrong time to fight him. Beggars cant be choosers. After the election is won we the People can decide what to do with RW, depending on his future conduct. Dayan Jayatilleke and other snakes in the grass who are creating self doubt are really trying to help their Master, Rajapaksa.

If any office bearer or member of the UNP does not support RW they should be sacked forthwith. And particularly, if Sajith does not pull his weight behind RW, throw him out with full confidence that that will not affect the election performance in the least. He will go over to the UPFA and thank God for that – good riddance! This will strengthen the UNP.

Let us stop this nonsense about the merits of Sajith and Karu. One is a hollow head, and the other is a proven Judas. Karu is the one who nearly decimated the UNP in 2007, when he crossed over to the thieves with 18 UNPers to get the post of Minister for Administration (a.k.a. perks without works!)

Let the Rank and File of the UNP demonstrate to the country that RW is their undisputed leader. The rest of the Opposition will then have no choice but to accept him as the Common Candidate. What other choice do they have ? Can any other opposition party contest aligned with the UPFA. Such association will vaporize even the less than five percent support each one of them mustered at the last Uva Elections. On the other hand they stand a very good chance of making a good deal with the UNP if they are willing to extend support to defeat Rajapaksa.

It is up to you Ranil. Show you have the balls. Show leadership. It is do or die. Otherwise you will forever remain bridesmaid. Be mindful of your advancing years. No one wants an old bridesmaid!

    Come on Ranil. Now.

      Navin,

Do not worry, I assure you Ranil Wickremasinghe will display his true potential after Nomination. All his critics will have to eat Humble Pie for sure. The coming PE will be another landslide like in ’77.

“It is up to you Ranil. Show you have the balls.”
Or CBK to show whatever she has got if he wishes to throw the hat into the ring :-)

If RW is willing to give up candidacy there could be a UPFA leader or a group to take the challenge of MR. RW is pushing the Working Committee to ensure he contests, because his guys are in it in the majority and Sajith and Co wants him to contest and be defeated so that SP can become the leader of the UNP. DJ has only one issue- not KJ, SP- but MR’s victory. He jolly well knows that no UNP candidate can win due to their internal squabbles. This is why a beak away group from UPFA is not in the equation in this writing. DJ please speak up with that quantum in mind- i.e. break away group of UPFA+ JHU+ JVP+ UNP supporting a common candidate and project your thinking.

This guy recently declared that he will vote for Mahinda. He want Mahinda to win. So can he propose a winning candidate to the opposition? No. He wants a losing candidate, which is Sajith. The opposition, if clever should do exactly the opposite and field Ranil. Dayan now you look so dump. Dont think sri lankans are “too” stupid.

As explained by Mr.Upali Wijewardena, the country’s future cannot be allowed to be menavoured by a few individuals who could be on a contract job. If Sajith or anyone do not supportthe common candidate chosen by the majority of the opposition, let it be. RW must go forward and proceed with the nomination of Karu and carry out a good campaign, victory would follow.

Ranil is a loser in any other democratic country, he would have had to resign after he lost the last time and replaced with a leader selected by secret ballot. He is holding on to the position as leader of the party and Leader of the Opposition in the hope that he would be the President of Sri Lanka some day., This is not going to happen. Tiran Alles who is close to the President and on his advice Tiran has manipulated Sajith to announce that Ranil should contest Rajapake.knowing very well that he would be the loser. . Otherwise why would an outsider suggest what UNP should promote Ranil. There is a sinister motive and trap conceived by Rajapajse to bring about the downfall of Ranil..

Considering the above, UNP should promote Karu Jayasuriya as the candidate.
In all these discussions there is absolutely no reference to the minorities. How the Tamils and Muslims will vote is critical. Up,to now no leader had indicated what they are prepared to offer them.

DJ, if Sajith becomes the PM or the president of this country then all the Gods and religions we believe are fault and bogus.
Remember, who pilfered paintings from Presidents house? furniture from temple trees? and the pioneer of the treasure hunting business in Sri Lanka.
Normal rural public voted MR in only because of the war, now that’s water under the bridge.Rural masses, they toil, they earn and they don’t give a rat’s ass who lives in temple trees or in the other corner house.

It is time DJ realises the true position and stops trying to promote Sajith whilst criticising RW.

What is so good about such a coalition. What are they have in common. JHU to have held positions in the government all this time and moving away at the final hour does not qualify for any good thing. CBK who has almost annihilated SLFP do think that it is her fathers dowry for her to go in and out anytime she wish. What is doing right now is also to destroy the party. Karu is only a snake who has been giving 50,000 rupees a month to most of the web based media to work things in his favour. He has gone from UNP once and has come back for the carrot of Deputy Leader offered to him by Ranil. There should not be any common candidate as such. Ranil being the leader of the largest party in the opposition should get consciences from others to field himself at the election. Other forms of effort is doom to fail even before it started.

Just look at the other possibility according to Disc Jockey ( DJ). If SF becomes the President then MRs balls will be hanging in the balance.
