The purported “daughter’s account” of President Maithripala Sirisena, titled ‘Janadhipathi Thaththa (‘Presidential Father’)’ was not written by his daughter Chathurika Sirisena, Colombo Telegraph can reveal today.

The book, was in fact written by Sachini Navarathne, an employee of Media Gang, which is an advertising agency owned by Ms Sirisena. The final proof was read by the President’s Media Advisor and former Editor-in-Chief of the Divaina (Sunday) Gamini Sumanasekera.
The much-hyped launch of the book took place at the BMICH on the 15th of September and was attended by almost half the cabinet of ministers.
Ms Sirisena’s ‘knowledge of Sinhala literature’ came in for high praise by novelist Kathleen Jayawardena at the launch, but it is now apparent that Ms Sirisena’s contribution was minimal and amounted to a recounting of personal memories which were transcribed and put together by Ms Navarathne.
It was pointed out by a critic that while it is not unusual for books about political elites to be written by ghostwriters it is surprising that one speaker grandly stated that it was the first time that a ‘first child’ had written about a presidential parent in this country.
“The burning issue is not about who actually wrote the book but whether state funds were used for the purpose and for the grand tamasha that was the launch,” the critic said.
Ms Sirisena had no involvement in advertising until her father became President. Thereafter she ‘hijacked’ an advertising agency called ‘Media Gang’ which is run mostly on work commissioned by state agencies. Sumanasekera, as mentioned, not only owes his salary to the tax-payer but does not do a stroke of work, according to reliable sources.
As such the book has essentially been funded by tax payer’s money since the true author’s salary is paid thanks to government ads while the editor is also an employee of the state.
The entire charade brings to mind a similar biography, ‘CBK,’ written in 2005 about the former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. The then Auditor General objected when it was found that state funds were channeled through the Port Authority for the purpose of writing the book. This book project was scrapped subsequently due to many inaccuracies even though the true author, a British national had been paid an advance of US $ 20,000.

The President’s daughter has a story to tell. In fact all the daughters, and sons of kings, queens, presidents, prime ministers, politicians and all others have stories to tell as well. Many are not fully skilled to tell their story, and Chaturika is no exception.
This is also true for presidents, prime ministers, politicians, corporations, businesses others. They use ghost writers, advertising agencies etc., to tell their story, with general or specific inputs form the originator or the primary authors.
The Bible was supposed to be the Word of God, to the Prophets, per Jewish and Christian belief. Did God write it ? It is believed by the faithful to have been delegated to the Angels, Prophets and to the scribes. Was the Tiipitaka written by the Buddha? No. His sermons were memorized over four centuries by his disciples and finally written down, with all the errors. The Quran was supposed to be the Word of God, per Islamic belief, delegated to angel and dictated to Prophet Mohamed, and dictated to the scribes.
Charurika does acknowledge that she got help. How many others acknowledge that?
The real story here appears to be how a farmer’s son became a president in a country that was represented by the upper Western educated classes for quite some time from a daughters eyes. This should be translated to Tamil, English and many other languages.
Amarasiri will certainly buy this book, irrespective of the degree of contribution provided by different hands. Many do buy the Bible, The Tipitaka and Quran after all.

No doubt, coming up with the idea of writing the book and selection of material is her choice, and that she needed expert help with composing complex ideas into prose. I know it from my own professional work. Listening to her talk, I believe she is a genuinely sincere person and speak with feelings (not the double tongued off springs of most key politicians that I have heard from).

A book being written by one person and naming another person is a minor deal in the publishing industry. This is normally done to gain a wider readership to the books. There, the real author and name donner both agreeing on a business contract. Many times, smaller companies providing services use big companies’ name to market their services. . It is said there are Trump towers, Trump doesn’t know the location of the building, but his company collects only royalty for the use of his name – a synonym for luxury. There are many other versions of semi- franchising too existing, to use commercially one another’s name.
Our concern here is,not the name using, but two other important matters, 1). the means used to prepare the book & 2). the purpose of the book. Apparently it looks like another Sil-Reddi distribution or Central Bank looting has taken place to make the book. Very first thing is any resource used from the government departments have to be reimbursed based on the hourly rate of the employees and remitted to the relevant departments, or otherwise has to take three years hospitalization like Lalith and Anusha. If the father was honestly a farmer’s son (He is the son of a traitor- Mercenary- Albert) have had the opportunity to become the president of the country, then there is no need for the first daughter to steal the government aids to become the next president.

Everyone has the right to do as he/she pleases within a legal and ethical framework. If one has nothing good to say about this book and it’s launch then it’s best to keep silent and not assassinate people’s character. Ridiculing others comments only shows your upbringing.
