CID To Question Shiranthi Rajapaksa Over Murder Of Wasim Thajudeen

The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) will question former First Lady, Shiranthi Rajapaksa over the murder of ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen.

The Colombo Telegraph learns that along with the former first lady, her second son, Yoshitha will also be questioned with regard to a defender jeep used in the killing. The CID will question both Shiranthi and Yoshitha on the defender jeep believed to have been used in the abduction of Thajudeen. The vehicle which belonged to the Red Cross Society of Sri Lanka was donated to the Siriliya Saviya Foundation chaired by the former first lady. However, the defender jeep bearing WP – KA 0642 which was originally white, was repainted when it was used by the Siriliya Saviya Foundation for unknown reasons.

Yoshitha ShiranthiThe CID during investigations had pointed out that changing the colour of the vehicle was highly suspicious as the vehicle was in very good condition and was only utilized for supposedly social service work by the foundation. According to the National Secretariat for Non-Governmental Organisations, the Siriliya Saviya is headquartered at the Carlton Bungalow in Tangalle.

Through the Court, the CID had also requested for a comprehensive analytical report from the Government Analyst after they received confirmation that the colour of the vehicle had been changed.

Rajapaksa’s eldest son, Namal and second son, Yoshitha, who are both currently out on bail in separate financial fraud and money laundering cases are alleged to have played a major role in Thajudeen’s murder. They have denied the allegations.

However, the investigation suffered a setback after the British Columbia Society of Laboratory Science recently ruled that the CCTV footage of the killing was unclear due to the low resolution and low pixels of the video hence they are unable to make a conclusive determination of the incident.

During the investigation it also came to light that on the day of the murder, the then OIC of the Narahenpita Police received several telephones calls from the Presidential Secretariat. However, the officers attached to the secretariat handling telephone calls at that time had deleted the phone records and they had resigned following the change in the Presidency last year. Former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake and former Crimes OIC of the Narahenpita Police Sumith Perera are currently in remand custody for concealing evidence with regard to Thajudeen’s murder.

Ex-Judicial Medical Officer Ananda Samarasekera is also facing charges for allegedly ‘losing’ vital body parts of the victim. Samarasekera who carried out the first autopsy ruled that Thajudeen died from an accident; however a second autopsy revealed that he was murdered.

Thajudeen, the former Havelock SC captain, was killed in Colombo 5, in May 2012 in what appeared to be an accident, but it was later ruled as a murder, with the accident staged. ( By Munza Mushtaq @ Colombo Telegraph)

I am sure the buddies of Rajapakse and the guardians Yahapalanya, Sirisena and Ranil will take steps to protect the culprits. Impunity is the culture of Srilanka. So far so many political dissidents were killed in the Rajapakse regime. Yet no murder investigation has convicted a single criminal. There were the murders of Lasantha, Eknaligoda, Taraki Sivaram,Joseph Pararajasingam,Kumar Ponnambalam, Raviraj, The list goes on. Yahapalanaya will make sure that the culprits will be protected.

I feel pity for the parents who have failed in their obligation to teach their children good etiquette, manners, and simplicity to mold their characters to be upright. I quote from the Prophet’s statement on the responsibility of the parents in the children upbringing:
The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) gave the parents the responsibility of raising the children and made that obligatory upon them.

It was narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: “Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock. The ruler is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock. A man is the shepherd of his family and is responsible for his flock. A woman is the shepherd of her husband’s household and is responsible for her flock. A servant is the shepherd of his master’s wealth and is responsible for his flock.” He said: and I think he said, “A man is the shepherd of his father’s wealth and is responsible for his flock. Each of you is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock.”

    Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 583; Muslim, 1829.
So every parents must guide their children to the right paths and its their moral responsibility. Former DIG and his son were involved in crime, similarly several off springs of Sri Lankan politicians were involved in many crimes and went scott free. But they little realize their the Divine Retribution when looms over their neck, none can save them neither any regret will be of any use. So let all parents take a lesson from these events and rectify our mistake.

We are fast approaching a “Full House” of the incarceration of the Rajapaksa’s. Mahinda could not have been that clever all of the time to have escaped so far. Like all thieves, he must have made one mistake somewhere, which will soon come to light.
