“Clean Sri Lanka” Misunderstood

By Fr J.C. Pieris –

Fr Chryso Pieris SJ

The context

Maybe the government has not noticed it, but I have. A whole lot of utter rubbish and downright lies against the one-year-old Malima government are being spread in the rural sector and in small towns. The Spring Valley Road in Badulla was a disgrace full of pot holes. It is the road that leads to the (Catholic) Bishop’s House at Rock Hill. For the last 40 years or more every bishop complained to and requested the various powers that were to repair the road properly. Nothing ever happened; only the road became worse after every rainy season. Within a year of the new Malima government’s take over, I was pleasantly surprised to see, the road was beautifully broadened and carpeted. But, believe me, somebody, not an uneducated rustic, told me that Harin Fernando did it. I was flabbergasted! Angrily, I corrected him. This is not an isolated incident; I have heard a few more similar baseless lies. What do you expect from the Baias when their leader loudly and dramatically shoots off strings of lies in the parliament. If you throw a lot of mud, something is bound to stick, seems to be their Goebbel-plan behind their diabolical behavior.

The latest Lie

The latest lie propagated by the opposition is that “Clean Sri Lanka” (CSL) project has failed and Anura Kumara Dissanayake (AKD) has started a new Big Lie called “Ratama Ekata” (RE). Those who spread this lie are either total idiots or degenerate scoundrels. “RE” is a national drive to eradicate drugs and drug traffickers from our Island. It teaches us that this enormous task is the responsibility of not only the Police and the Government but also of each and every citizen of this country. When previous governments were in power the normal routine was to take the underworld drug trafficker who is caught to show where the hidden weapons are and kill him off extra judicially. The police do not do this on their own. Somebody who wanted to silence the underworld hoodlum ordered it. It must be somebody above the Police. And that is the government. Now you know who the real drug lords are, and why the present opposition is in a panic mode running around like headless chicken spitting lies endlessly.

“Ratama Ekata”

The national drive to eradicate harmful drugs and to clean up the underworld that spread it was inaugurated by AKD recently. If you have not heard AKD’s speech in that occasion, you have missed something. It was AKD at his best. The very fact that now the underworld traffickers who get caught are not extra judicially silenced proves that the current 159 NPP MPs and AKD are drug-clean. The gist of the speech was that every adult citizen of the country must see to it that the next generation is free of drug use. We owe it to them. All the children of Sri Lanka are our sons and daughters. It is our national parental duty. The RE is one aspect of CSL RE does not replace CSL RE is implementing an important part of CSL

“Clean Sri Lanka”

CSL is the complete overhaul of our country. It is like pushing your hand into a pillow case and pulling it inside out. Cleaning up the governance has taken place to a great extent. Kudos to NPP. It was not that difficult for all of them were highly motivated and knew what they were getting into. The motivation was nothing less than Love, love for the country and its people. That is the foundation of “Pohosath Ratak and Lassana Jeevithayak”. But the vast government administrative sector is not easily motivated and moved ………………. unless the wrongdoers are judicially punished. And it is being done, of course, the procedure is slow for the inertia in that sector is legendary. Education reforms are part of CSL. Streamlinning the public transport system both railways and buses is again part of CSL. Every cleaning up, reform, reorganizing, closing down, innovating and COPE’s investigations are implementing the CSL.

Aragalaya

The NPP government is the mother of CSL. Aragalaya is the mother of the NPP government. And the mother of the Aragalaya is the people. Spontaneously without a leader, without a party, without a union they came together in such great numbers that the contemporary evil powers literally fled for life looking for holes to hide. And that is the first and most important value that emerged at Gotagogama, Nirpakshika. It means one does not belong to any political party nor owe allegiance to any so-called leader. It is this gathering of the people that I called along ago “The Grand Alliance of Good People”. The Nirpakshika person is the model of a true citizen who takes full responsibility for what he says and does, making decisions on his own without any influence. The NPP government must keep in mind that the vast majority of those who supported the NPP are such Nirpakshika people. They are neither JVP nor NPP nor do they belong to any other party; they are sovereignly independent. They do not forgive wrong doers and law breakers even if they are JVP or NPP.

A humble request

Dear AKD and the NPP, implement your manifesto. Keep your hands clean. There are allegations against Vasantha and Manuwarna. Do not allow the allegations to fester. Investigate and let the law do its job. If at all let it be more severe with them than with others. The latest news is that the husband of a PS Malima member is caught with drugs and to make it worse he is the head master of a primary school! The full weight of the law of the country must be applied to these people after a thorough investigation and the judicial process. Let the NPP turn the searchlight of finding the truth on themselves and seek out the weeds and destroy them fast, before the weeds destroy all the good achieved by the NPP so far.

The author of this article seems to have forgotten that the roughly 6.9 million “Nirpakshka”masses who enthusiastically voted the JVP to power in 2024 whose praises he sings, were precisely the same masses who enthusiastically voted for a corrupt and criminal family oligarchy and political establishment as recently as 2019/20 ! The savage contradiction reflects the humbug hypocrisy folly and gullibility of the “Nirpakshika” masses he glorifies. More to the point one would hope that Christian priests would regard it their mission to preach the glorious one true biblical Gospel consistent with Christ’s “great commission” and call people to repentence and faith, rather than be passionate social activists who champion the cause of a political party.

I fully agree with Prof. A. N. I. It is disgraceful that Fr. J. C. Pireis has to come down to clean the dirty stinking floors. It is blasphemy.

Prof ANI Ekanayaka, very true that politics in whatever form is biased and corrupt, and very specially our local family who lied at every turn to collect family money for the idle and non-working future generations. Unless there is repentance and faith by receiving Christ’s sacrifice for all humans, they will go to eternal demonic hell fire.

      Hello Professor Ekanayaka,
Was this a Henry II “who will rid me of this troublesome priest” request?
It is not 1170, if you hadn’t noticed, and if a Christian Priest (Jesuit or Anglican) wants to make comments about social Issues you cannot burn them at the stake anymore.
I don’t agree with some of the things that Fr Chryso Pieris says, but he has as much right as any of us to say them.
Just as you have every right to preach your Christian nonsense, we have the same right to disagree with it. As the great Prophet Dave Allen said “May your God go with you”.
      Best regards

Prof A E is telling us a fact. SL Buddhist voters being gullible sheep
voted for GR thinking falsely that the Muslim terrorism has taken hold in 2019 after an secretly organised Easter Bombings. It was great stupidity of them to believe that uneducated thuggish person can bring economic prosperity to the country. Never again Buddhism should have a role in SL elections. In 2022 March it was the educated multi ethnic & religious group that formed the Aragalaya in order not only get rid of Gota but also to get rid of bribery and corruption.
Tamils Aragalaya of 1950s (ie Satyagraha) was brutally suppressed by the then GoSL instead of listening to the minorities politicians Sinhala Catholic clergy and the lay people could have played a greater role in bringing peace and harmony
There is racism in the catholic society too. Vatican is a rich body that could help in the SL charities and development

“Tamils Aragalaya of 1950s (ie Satyagraha)”
Do you call a protest sit-down in the GFG an Aragalaya?
The Satyagraha of 1961 was treated more gently until the FP (tired of the stalemate) blinked and printed ‘Thamilarsu’ postal stamps and a postal service.
There was no violence even when over a hundred protesters were arrested by the armed forces for detention. (There was, however, assault of some leaders who sat in front of the Jaffna Kachcheri very early in the campaign, and that indiscretion boosted the protest and it became an all N&E phenomenon.)

The reason I said that all children must be protected is because if our son’s friend is a drug addict, one day he might influence others to try drugs too. And when our son wishes to marry, he is looking for someone else’s daughter — who might be raised with better values — and she could help guide him in the right direction.

We must understand that Sajith and Namal Rajapaksa both know the truth — the main drug dealers were killed because they were witnesses to the larger drug network. Gampaha’s Wimal was chased out of the Pohotuwa (SLPP) party. Why are they now gathering again on November 21? These same people contributed to the country’s bankruptcy, and their speeches show a lack of education and seriousness.

In contrast, when NPP leaders speak, children can learn from them — their speeches have strategy and foresight. The others only talk about onions, salt, and rice, using people’s hardshiWhen inferior medicine was purchased, no one in the health sector went on strike. The medical authorities used it, and as you know, some patients even died. Yet, when it comes to a dress code issue, they treat it more seriously than the issue of substandard medicine.ps to gain political favor. When floods raise prices, they exploit it for their own benefit.

    OMG, what a terrible budget.
As a Citizen, it means nothing to me.
One thing for sure, I will be paying more for my life’s essentials from tomorrow.
Large sums of money are allocated to MPs for their constituency development. One bright MP asked yesterday, in parliament, what happened to the allocation in the Budget 2025.
The presenter said that an allocation is made in the 2026 Budget.
This entire budget is a process for nothing but increasing Taxes.
Leaders, especially the ones elected by < 50% of the popular vote, are brainless cheaters.

The PROJECT of “Clean SL” needs to be highlighted in the schools too.
It means more than keeping your surroundings clean and hygienic.
It also means for us to be good citizens of the country without hatred for othe ethnic and religious groups. In order to promote uniformity should we stop attending linguistic and religious schools. Should we not allow the religious as well as schools to stop using the loud speakers or music that disturbs the neighbours.
We in cities are already overwhelmed by air pollution do we need the SOUND pollution too.
“Clean SL” requires one to do his/ her share of role in their daily activities—
    Be corrupt free etc

‘Clean Sri Lanka’, I think, all of us have got hold of this on the wrong end of the stick. Why?

Yesterday, as reported, (confirmed now) a distinguished and well-loved, popular ‘Gentlemen’ (in every sense of the word) and a still living ‘ICON’ in the ‘Literary Arena’, Rathnathshri Wijesinghe, of Sri Lanka, was invited to deliver the ‘Key Note’ address at a meeting held in the suburbs of Colombo in commemoration of a ‘Cultural and Literature’ event. He was scheduled to speak at 3.30 p.m., but even by 7.30 p.m., he was not called upon to deliver his speech, though he was present at the venue 1/2 hour earlier. Having got tired of waiting, he called his driver to bring him a glass of water. One of the ladies who was waiting to serve the guests gladly undertook to take the glass of water to the guest speaker. What followed was HORRIFIC and DISGUSTING.

One of the members of the ‘Organizing Committee’ approached the girl and ‘SPLASH a SPIT’ into the glass of water; she was about to carry it to the guest speaker.

Where must we start this ‘Clean Sri Lanka’?

The Christian faith which ‘Lankasco’t refers to as “nonsense” is the eternal Truth for which countless great saints and martyres throughout human history ( compared to whom cynics like ‘Lankascot’ are but worms and maggots) suffered and laid down their lives.
