Compare Israel With The LTTE

By Hameed Abdul Karim

Hameed Abdul Karim

Hameed Abdul Karim

I was more than disappointed when I read your editorial in the Sunday Times (August 2, 2014) where you directly compare the Hamas with the now vanquished LTTE suggesting that Hamas too is a terrorist organisation as Israel and its backers in west, the so-called ‘international community’, want the whole world to believe.

It is open season on Muslims in Sri Lanka as in the whole world, so I will be treading on dangerous grounds when I say Hamas is not a terrorist organisation. I know also that useful idiots like ‘caliph’ Baghdadi of Islamic State notoriety contribute immensely to the sound bites of ‘Islamic terrorism’ that are ever present in the echo chambers of the world media.

Free and fair election

But please remember Hamas was democratically elected in an election that was supervised by Jimmy Carter who said the process were ‘free and fair’. But of course such reports do not appear at all in any media anywhere as frequently as the term ‘Hamas is a terrorist organisation’ does. If the people’s will is the defining term in a democracy, as we hear so often, then the world must accept Hamas as an elected body and if necessary in times of oppression and slaughter support them when they offer legitimate resistance which is permitted under international law the same way it supported the French Resistance Movement in its struggle against German occupation. But the world, especially the so called ‘international community’, makes fish of one and fowl of another. The Nazis dubbed the French Resistance fighters as ‘terrorists’ but the world supported them, quite rightly, as a legitimate resistance to Germany’s occupation of their country.

ANC

We all know the western powers supported the white supremacist regime of South Africa to the hilt. Former U.S. vice president Dick Cheney had told De Klerk not to release the ‘terrorist’ Mandela from Robben Island and Margaret Thatcher along with the likes of Ronald Reagan had called apartheid South Africa an outpost of western civilisation. The same is being said of Israel. Supposing the South African racist regime was not dismantled and the ‘blacks’ were still resisting the oppression, would you call the ANC a terrorist organisation and its leaders as terrorists?

Israel an occupying power

Israel is also an occupying power and its unspeakable crimes against a helpless and unarmed population are so horrid that they must be associated with the crimes the Germans committed against the European Jewish population. These are the very same Jews who are committing these same dastardly crimes against the Palestinians, prompting the Palestinian intellectual Edward Said to lament that ‘we are the victims of the victims’.  The creation of Israel, no less drenched in the blood of the Palestinians, is in itself another matter better left for another day.

Paradigm shift in Sri Lankan media

My disappointment rests largely in the belief that all of the editorialists at the Sunday Times, and in your sister paper the Daily Mirror, are well acquainted with the actual facts regarding the pathetic plight of the Palestinians and yet you twist or distort the historical facts to suit a new ‘see no evil, hear no evil speak no evil’ approach to the Palestinian catastrophe. Indeed there was a time not very long ago your paper as well as your sister paper were sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, which is a humanitarian cause as was the struggle against apartheid in white ruled South Africa, and not a ‘Muslim’ cause as some would want the world to believe. All this changed when the country established diplomatic relations with Israel and after the Israeli ambassador paid visits to media outlets to have a ‘word’ with editors and journalists. From that day onwards the English media in Sri Lanka put on the blinkers and their support for the Palestinian cause was no more a necessity. I hear from friends the Sinhala media is worse. I am reliably informed that your Sinhala paper the ‘Dinamina’ had a whole heap of anti Muslim rhetoric on a protest by Muslims in Puttalam. How has this come about? Muslims and Sinhalese have lived side by side for centuries and I am sure those who had made such nasty comments haven’t ever met an Israeli or even know what Zionism stands for. So what prompted them to make these comments? Probably because of the anti Muslim propaganda on the net and in certain sections of the media. Is their sudden love for the Israelis a byproduct of ‘hate Muslim campaigns’ launched by extremist forces here?

Israel trained LTTE

The other day your sister paper, the Daily Mirror, carried a ridiculous article trying to connect the Sinhalese and the Israelis on the basis that the Sinhalese are related to the Jews through Ravana! In all my years of reading newspapers I have yet to come across such a gross absurdity. What’s going on over there in the media? The likes of Mervyn de Silva, the doyen of Sri Lankan journalism, will be spinning in their graves. And then why this sudden rush to embrace the Israelis? Don’t we remember the Israelis called us ‘black monkeys’ as revealed by Victor Ostrovosky in his book ‘By Way of Deception’? Don’t we remember the Israelis trained the LTTE as well as the army and on one frightful day they both almost came face to face?

You are well aware of the Jewish terrorist units like the Irgun, Levi and the Hagganah among others that created Israel by force of arms. It were these Jewish terrorist networks that created Israel and till this day Israel remains the only country without defined borders and yet we hear no condemnation of that. All we hear is the Israeli narrative that Hamas fired rockets into Israel without ever mentioning the siege or the blockade that Israel had imposed in the open air concentration camp that it created in Gaza with a little bit of help from the old and now the new tyrant of Egypt al-Fatah al Sisi.

Reading your article it is not clear to me whether you, or SL Muslims in general consider LTTE a brutal terrorist organisation? Otherwise how about we settle down to the statement : Hamas, like LTTE is a laudable, peace loving, patriotic national organisations fighting the oppressors”.

Ethnic cleansing occurs under threat of violence. No such thing happened to the Indian ‘Tamils’ in the hill country before or after 1948. India agreed to take back some of it’s people who had been brought in as indentured labour to work the colonial tea estates Others were granted citizenship.

“We all know the western powers supported the white supremacist regime of South Africa to the hilt. “
I don’t like your usage of “We” in your statement above, because I don’t believe what you said above is true..
So, blacks people in SA by their own managed to end white apartheid, as you say, even western powers supported the white apartheid to the hilt .. I believe SA people are great people, but have they managed to get out of that misery completely by themselves? Or People/Gov in countries like ME, India or Siri Lanka helped SA defeat apartheid? No…No.. Anybody, any country helped them in any way ?? .
In USA until 1960s, whites were considered superior than black, brown and yellow coloured people by their constitution. Australia had White Only policy until 1971… It is said ” No dogs and Chinese/Sinhalese allowed” was common sign in western countries… How much these western countries changed in respecting all coloured humans as humans in the last 50 years? .. What is happening in Siri Lanka and most of Middle East countries in the last 50 years…. These brown countries are going backwards in most areas including core human values.. The main reason for this failure is that they don’t try to identify their own weaknesses and improve them, instead they put all their effort to find all weak areas of white people and invariably helping whites to be better people…

    Hameed Abdul Karim,

I do have sympathy for your anguish and frustration.

However we are in a new world order. In this new world order the Jews are running the show. Almost all world capital is owned by the Jews. No bank can survive without the acquiescence of world Jewry. The majority shares in almost all the leading world industries are owned by Jews. All the major oil companies, mines, diamond and gold industries are almost exclusively owned by Jews.

But the jewel in the crown of World Jewry is taking control of the US, the most powerful country in the world. Like a virus afflicting a body the Jews over a long period of time, through bribary and corruption have infiltrated every facet of the US. Almost all key US decision making apparatuses are headed by Jews. The US military have been reduced to hit men for Jewish causes. Even during the recent bombardment of the Gaza Strip it was US warships and helicopters that kept replenishing the Israeli military.

World Jewry is so powerful even the UN is unable to touch them. Recently when Banki Moon met with Netanyahu to beg him to stop the bombardment of Gaza, Netanyahu publicly belittled Banki Moon saying he will continue to bombard Gaza as long as is necessary. Banki Moon returned to the UN empty handed. And to make his point even clearer Netanyahu bombed a UN shelter.

Even Egypt since the time of Mubarak has been a proxy Jewish state. The Islamic Brotherhood that mounted a challenge has been decimated and another Jewish proxy has been installed. In such a climate it is best that the Palestinians accept any humiliating conditions put on them by the Jewish state if they wish to survive. Palestinians have no one to protect them.

      BBS Rep,
Jews are successfull because they work hard. The Muslims cannot do it, they spend more time to kill & fight wars. this is a fact. Almost all muslim coutries are at war, killing & evil. The muslims should realize this and accept what they do. Muslims are too busy killing, fighting wars & taking revange in the way of terrorism… Jews dont kill Jews But Muslims Kills Muslims… so what more need to justify who these terrorist are… Dont blame the Jews.

So,Jews don’t kill. They re dropping flowers isn’t it? Check your body if it has a heart. Maybe, you’re one those heartless creeps like Gota , Mahinda , Champika , and the entire Sinhalese Buddhist racists.

See, all the racists ultimately lost their game. Likewise, please wait for a while, punishment is on the way. Read some history books on the destroyed nations. No one owns the earth remember.

Opportunities come in turn. Its their time. You’re enjoying their kill for you and them are same animals.

But, the turn comes to the other. When that happens, we will have the last laugh.

Enjoy the kill, for no one is going to live forever. Power comes in turn….

        David,

There is a lot of truth in what you say. The Muslims are their own worst enemies. Look at the carnage that is going on in Northern Iraq and Syria as we speak. Since the death of Prophet Mohammad the killing of Muslims by Muslims continues. The first war between Muslims shortly after the death of Mohammad called the ‘Battle of Camels’ was between Mohammad’s widowed wife and Mohammad’s son in law called Ali. The infighting has never stopped till today.

However I was not talking about Muslims. I was referring to Palestinians. There is a sizeable Christian presence among the Palestinians.

But the clout that Jews have over the US and many countries in the world cannot be understated. The practice of apartheid by the Israelis and their penchant to settle scores by mega violence cannot also be understated.

    Hello there,

It indoctrinates children to hate, its massacres its opposition, it hides behind women and children, charities, NGOs when challenged. It conducts elections after indoctrination their people to hate Israel. Israel does not do any of these things.

Hamas is a terrorist organisation. It is a terrorist organisation just like the LTTE. I hope you want Moslems to live in peace. The moment you accept these simple realities peace will dawn.

I encourage you to listen to Mosab Hassan Yousef below, the son of Hamas founder.

such a lame comparison. It is PLO not Israel which trained some LTTE and members from other Tamil organizations. You have to compare LTTE with Israel in order to defend Hamas terrorists lol.

IsraHell is a state sponsored terrorist organization backed by USA. Hamas is a political party formed against the PLO by the the IsraHell to split the Palestinian community. Today they are fighting to chase out the IsraHell terrorist from their land.
Palestinians have their rights to get their lands back and to live without siege. In other word, Palestinians are fighting to merge their country which was split by the western powers

If this Writer is trying to convey everything of the Israelis and Jews is wrong and everything by Hamas and his Islamic comrades is right and just, he wastes his time. Sri Lanka must exercise its own right to be
friendly with both the Palestinians and the Arabs. The recent upsurge in violence in the Gaza was due to Hamas/Palestinians caught surreptitiously building several underground bunkers to penetrate Israeli soil, while talking peace. Simultaneously, they rained rockets on Israel, most of which were downed by the Iron Domes. As usual, as Netanyahu has often threatened “if you kill one of us we will kill hundreds of yours” and he carries out this threat. Hamas was shelling Israel recently from Schools, Hospitals and Refugee Camps. They have done this before and will do so again. Israel, as she warned earlier, demanded the right to strike back at where the offensive weapons come from the Palestinian side. On this occasion, Hamas was using all the gory scenes of injuries, deaths and destruction to produce propaganda videos – for use among Muslims in the world later. They cared little for the hundreds of children and civilians that will be killed, maimed and de-housed.

The latest arrival ISIS, which the Writer calls “idiots” – appears to be a worst enemy for the Palestinians than the Israelis themselves. In the nature of their culture it is unlikely the Islamists – Arabs, Palestinians and whatever – will ever be united. That is Israel’s greatest strength.

So let’s not blame the Sunday Times editorial. The world is beginning to understand Global Islam as it is and what its many open conspiracies
    for the world are.

Bravo Abdul Karim! Bravo! You made me feel proud to be Sri Lankan. I am pround that there are Sri Lankans who can still be counted upon to call a “spade” a spade. I am proud that not all of us can be bought with 30 pieces of silver. Shame on the international and national politicians, and their cowering journo fraternity. Shame on President Mahinda Rajapaksa the “Lion of Palestine”, for allowing Sri Lanka to qualify as a dog salivating at the sight of scraps of bone flesh dangled by the Israeli Terrorist State. Shame Shame Shame.

    Mr Karim
A couple of days ago I blogged this (see below) on the article about the Mirror forbidding its journalists to join a protest. Reading your article now, I am persuaded that it is my criticism of Israel that has led the Mirror to censor me once again. – Manel F

For over a year now the Daily Mirror has rejected (censorship?) my comments on its articles. The most recent one was on Ameen Izzadeen’s about David (Dawood) & Goliath (Israel):

    ‘“Every day I ask myself:
WHAT can I DO? I cannot bear to see this carnage go on day after day. The installation of the Zionist state is one of the greatest crimes of the 20th c.”

‘Why was it rejected? Is it because editorial policy favours Israel or is it because about 2 years ago I had the temerity to complain to the Features editor when my name was subscribed to a comment about the bid for the Commonwealth Games that I did not write. The Mirror had compiled a feature comprising readers’s comments on the bid. I blogged a rather mild dissent but found I had been made the author of a much longer blog which was in language I wouldnt have used. My emailed complaint and request for a correction fell on deaf ears, but ever since, my blogs have been rejected. I have basically stopped blogging to the DM but couldnt resist in this latest instance.’

Karim it is time to stop connecting all the ridiculous conflicts like apartheid in South Africa, Israel and Gaza etc. to the LTTE terrorism and Sri Lanka.
Today conflicts the world over are the creations of the world’s super power USA and it’s lackeys the UK, the EU and those who have no choice but to support them due to their economic liabilities.
Today Libya (Switzerland of Middle East/Africa during during Ghaddafi’s reign) lies in ruin. UK’s Cameron who boasted on TV is in hiding while thousands of Libyans are murdered!
Muslims in Sri Lanka have nothing to fear, however it is better to cultivate more friendship by learning, speaking and using the language of the majority(Sinhala)and not the minority language. As a community dependent on trade Muslims would be better off.

        If I may,

You have conveniently ignored the form of apartheid enforced in upcountry. It still continues to this day.

When you visit this island next time let me know I will take you around and show you how the hard working people have been living under apartheid in this island.

After the visit you can write short stories, about how upcountry Tamils rule poor Sinhalese under apartheid regime.

If they did suffer apartheid, that was from their ‘cousins’ in Jaffna. I know a few who could NOT share a room at Peradeniya University with a Jaffna Tamil. I do not need to write short stories. I KNOW.

            Upcountry is not in Jaffna.

Could you name those upcountry Tamils who have decorated the offices of IGP, Army, Navy, Air force, Central Bank governor, Finance Ministry, Foreign Ministry, Prime Ministers, Presidents, Chairman of State Corporation, Banks, ……………..Ministry secretaries…

In case if you have forgotten, the country has been under the control of Sinhala/Buddhist racists for the past 66 years.

The last time when I checked

            Don Stephen Senanayake,
            Dudley Senanayake,
            John Kotelawala,
            Solomon Bandaranaike,
            Wijeyananda Dahanayake,
            Sirimavo Bandaranaike
            Junius Richard Jayewardene
            Ranasinghe Premadasa
            Dingiri Banda Wijetunga
            Ranil Wickremasinghe
            Chandrika Kumaratunga
            Ratnasiri Wickremanayake
            Mahinda Rajapaksa
            & Disanayaka Mudiyanselage Jayaratne

all came from Sinhala/Buddhist families. Not a single upcountry Tamil was elected nor appointed to the top posts. If that was not racism (apartheid) what is?

You have been shamelessly writing short stories since you appeared in this forum. I am confident you will continue to do so because you are not motivated by love for fellow human being but driven by your hatred for yourself.

            Remedy:

You simply look at your face in the mirror and say to yourself “I love myself” at least 1000 time a day.

The upcountry ‘Tamils’ were NOT citizens of Sri Lanka till the Sirima-Shastri pact was signed, and then ONLY did the majority of them become citizens. One does not suddenly take an estate labourer and make him the army commander simply because he is a citizen.

Upcountry is certainly NOT in Jaffna, but what I wrote about was the attitude of the Jaffna Tamils towards the few Estate ‘Tamils’ (allegedly cousins then and now) who managed to enter the hallowed halls of Peradeniya University.

Your attempt (in concert with a few resident trolls) to denigrate people on this forum is well known, even claiming the ability to read their minds. You must have been the school bully in your younger days, but obviously has not outgrown it, even though today, the attempts are absolutely futile.. Narcissism is not very becoming in this day and age. You should find something better to do.

“but what I wrote about was the attitude of the Jaffna Tamils towards the few Estate ‘Tamils’ (allegedly cousins then and now) who managed to enter the hallowed halls of Peradeniya University.”

Have you ever thought about or written about the Sinhala/Buddhist attitudes towards the Upcountry Tamils (you still write Estate Tamils) whom Sinhala/Buddhists have always considered as Kallathonies?

“The upcountry ‘Tamils’ were NOT citizens of Sri Lanka till the Sirima-Shastri pact was signed,”

They were made stateless by the 1948 racist Act.

Was your great grand father a citizen of Ceylon? They were all subject of the British Empire. You better learn to appreciate the facts, not the Anagarika brand of bigotry.

As far as the British Empire was concerned there were no borders between colonies subject to administrative arrangements.

Prior to foreign rule the idea of citizenship was never enforced by the former Kingdoms of this island.

“One does not suddenly take an estate labourer and make him the army commander simply because he is a citizen.”

The Majoritarians had 66 years to do it or at least since 1988 when most up country Tamils were granted citizenship. Couldn’t the armed forces find qualified Tamils for the those posts in the past 66 years? Whom are you kidding?

Please try not to sit on your Sinhala/Buddhist brain:

Here is something you may not know about your own history. Maj-Gen Anton Muttukumaru the first Commander of the Sri Lankan Army and the last Tamil to serve as commander. Remember he joined the Army before 1948 and reached the top before the Anagarika racism took root in this island.

                Maj-Gen Anton Muttukumaru

                12:00AM BST 06 Apr 2001

The first Ceylonese-born soldier to command his country’s army
MAJOR-GENERAL ANTON MUTTUKUMARU, who has died aged 92, became the first Ceylonese commander of the Ceylon Army in 1955.
As a Tamil, Muttukumaru was perhaps a surprise choice to lead an essentially Sinhalese army at a time of mounting ethnic violence between Tamils and Sinhalese. But he discharged the responsibility with great diplomacy and impartiality, and when he announced his intention to retire in 1959, Prime Minister Solomon Bandaranaike asked him to stay on.
Muttukumaru preferred to give younger officers their chance, but was persuaded by Bandaranaike – shortly before the prime minister’s assassination – to embark on a new career as a diplomat. He went on to serve as Ceylon’s High Commissioner in Pakistan and Australia, and later as Ambassador to Egypt.
Anton Muttukumaru was born in Ceylon on July 6 1908. His father, a Roman Catholic, died when Anton was a boy, leaving Anton’s spirited mother at the age of 30 with responsibility for four young children and five estates. Muttukumaru was educated at home by an English governess and then at a Jesuit school, where the monthly award for proficiency in scripture consisted of a scoop of sweets from a vast bin kept outside the bishop’s office.
After a further spell at University College in Colombo, he went in 1928 to Jesus College, Oxford, to read PPE. He plunged into the social and sporting life of the college. His friends included the Nawab of Pataudi, the celebrated cricketer who made a double century against Cambridge. The Nawab had never played squash and invited Muttukumaru to join him for his first lesson. The Varsity coach explained the rudiments of the game and began to knock up before Pataudi suggested a game. “The first set,” recalled Muttukumaru, “was won by the coach who, however, lost all the sets thereafter.”
Other cronies included Frank Moraes, the future editor of the Times of India; the satirist and theologian Ronald Knox, “my moral tutor”; and Gerry Curtler “not a ‘brain’ or a ‘blood’ but – in the seasoned opinion of Fred Reeley, the Jesus head porter – ‘a very playful gentleman’ “.
After Oxford, Muttukumaru read for the Bar and was called by Gray’s Inn, before returning to Ceylon to take his oaths as an advocate of the Supreme Court. He meanwhile joined the Ceylon Defence Force as a volunteer and in 1934 was commissioned in the Ceylon Light Infantry.
At the outbreak of the Second World War, Muttukumaru commanded the men who would provide the guards at the South East Asia Command headquarters in Kandy. When the war ended, he stayed on as a professional soldier, helping to create the newly formed Ceylon Army. He began as chief of staff to Brigadier The Earl of Caithness, and led his contingent of soldiers to London on ceremonial duties for the victory parade in 1946, for the funeral of George VI in 1952, and for the Queen’s coronation.
The third occasion included a personal invitation, couched as a command, from the future Queen to attend the service in Westminster Abbey. But Muttukumaru decided instead to march with his soldiers. The Queen forgave him his non-attendance in the Abbey and later congratulated him on the smartness of his men, as they had mounted guard at Buckingham Palace along with her own guardsmen on the eve of her coronation. In 1954 she appointed him an ADC.
There followed stints at the Imperial Defence College, and at the Senior Officers’ school at Devizes, where he was taught by Field Marshal Montgomery and made friends with the future Israeli defence minister Brigadier Moshe Dayan, before he returned home in 1955 to take command of the Ceylonese Army. A break from dealing with the ethnic problem came when Muttukumaru provided the engineers to build the bridge to be blown up for the filming of The Bridge On The River Kwai, directed by David Lean.
Muttukumaru’s last official duty as army chief was to supervise the funeral arrangements for the assassinated Bandaranaike. In 1960 he went to Karachi as Head of Mission in Pakistan (with concurrent responsibility for Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq). In his subsequent posting as High Commissioner to Australia and New Zealand (1963-1966) he composed the melody Ode to Anzac, which was played at the parade held at Canberra on the 50th anniversary of the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli in 1915.
In 1966, Muttukumaru became Ambassador to Egypt, where he witnessed the Six Day War with Israel, whose victory was masterminded by his old friend Moshe Dayan. He was concurrently Ambassador to Jordan, the Sudan and Tito’s Yugoslavia. After retiring in 1969, first to Sri Lanka and then to Australia, he indulged his love of horticulture and music, composing an Ave Maria and a Cor Jesu, a recording of which was presented to the Pope. He wrote A Military History of Ceylon and an autobiography, Wig, Sword and Parchment.
Besides being a shrewd and charming diplomat, Anton Muttukumaru had a great talent to amuse, and was a fine mimic. He was also a great collector of walking sticks, amassing some 300 during the course of his life.

He is survived by his wife Peggy (nee Ratnarajah), whom he married in 1944, and by their three sons.

                http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/1315323/Maj-Gen-Anton-Muttukumaru.html

If fellow citizens are given equal opportunity they could rise up in their chosen field, only with learning, sheer hard work and bit of intelligence.

Your stupid majoritarian made sure that a level playing field is denied to the most able, intelligent, hard working men and women of this island.

Maj-Gen Anton Muttukumaru was only an EXAMPLE.

I think there is very little constructive discussion on the subject that is written here, a lot of racial comments for and against, most have forgotten how Israel was created, yes, some people in Europe wanted before the WW2 the Jew out of Europe because they owned everything, they created Hitler to do the dirty Job, he went uncontrollable, so the so called elites decided let’s put the Jews in Palestine, who by the way as persecuted people were welcomed there, they started with a 1000 and steadily grew stated a separatist movement and wanted to create their own state at the expense of their host, once the declaration of Israel was made which countries accepted that declaration, lets fast forward to post independence Sri Lanka now lets put that same scenario here, why did the Tamils feel the need to start the LTTE, what were we doing wrong at the time, end of the day, we must have done something wrong for all this to start, if we treated all Sri Lankans as Lankans, because all communities were involved in the freedom struggle. Please look at history because history shapes our future, getting back to terrorism, one man’s freedom fighter is another man’s terrorist, there can be no comparison between HAMAS, LTTE, or Israel, no one human can or has the right to take another humans life, lest we forget today Israel is like a coward fighting from over a fort that they have built! with sofiticated weponry againt home made missles that 70% of time failed make any impact, while Israel use indiscriminate bombing tactics, which kill and maim civilians, the UN is powerless but they champion human rights and want investigations here in Sri Lanka, what a joke this is! this fight will never end until it has consumed enough blood

Lanka was created grappling Tamils Lands(north and east) and deporting Tamils from their Kingdom(Kandy) that was defeated in a war.

Tamil Nad has been the Tamil land. They came, they robbed, and they went back when chased out. If Lanka was ‘Tamil land’ Tamils should have become the majority of Lanka. Even after the Dutch bringing Vellahlers to plant their tobacco and the British bringing their kooleys to plant their tea, Tamils could not reach even quarter of the country’s population.

Many inaccuracies in Shihab’s misplaced comments. “Jews owned everything…and wanted everything” is a mischievous untruth calculated to harm the Jews – a dis-service to the readers. Modern Israel did not start as a Nation “with a thousand people” They were a substantial portion of the total population of Arab Muslims, Christians and Jews around 1947.
Israel, let it not be forgotten, is the ancient land of the Jews – from where they were evicted during various times of history. It is conceded there could have been a better arrangement for the different races/religions to live there in 1947/48 but the Islamic insistence to dominate, armed fighting and the political priorities of the then powers, prevented this.

“Israel is like a coward fighting from over a fort” is clearly your highly jaundiced Muslim opinion. Israelis are there on a principle. They are ready to fight and die for it. They are a united and determined people as last fortnight’s converging of the entire Israeli nation supporting the Netanyahu Government illustrated. On the other hand, you have various Islamic factions fighting each other over trying to capture the Islamic leadership of the world. This began from the time of Nasser and continued with Yasser Arafat. Then Gaddaffi made a bid of sorts. But the Saudis and their colleagues in the area have their own agenda. There is unlikely to be Muslim unity in the world. Look at the contradiction of Hamas – an Iranian (Shiite) creation coming forward to defend the largely Sunni cause in a political landscape, even today, Sunnis and Shias at each others throats. The best thing that can happen – as some Muslim readers in these pages suggest – is for Islam itself to change from within; come out of their intolerant and medieval mindset; give up the language of the sword and move towards peaceful coexistence with other religions in today’s modern, liberal and accomodative world. Forget this business of overtaking the world with a conspiratorial birth-strategy of the lunatic belief of “tomorrow world is that of Islam’s” These is Islam’s challenge for its survival.

The Bethar massacre as claimed by the Judaics should confirm how accurate their ‘history’ is, and this in a world where the total population was estimated to be 450 million.

Why the Christians have come to believe such rubbish is beyond me.

    Hi Hammed,
Your article is a facist racist article. Only a Dumb person will say Hamas, hesbulla are freedom fighters. Hamas are terrorist.Only Muslim fundamentalist will say & support Hamas, PLO, hesbolla & all other terrorist groups in the middle east. Remember that Israel & the Jews are fighting for there survival. They struggle to live. Why don’t you talk about the Rockets That palestinians fire into Israel from Palestine areas. You are a biased Muslim. Your views are Disgusting. Hamas, hesbulla are worse than of LTTE. Its a fact. You are an hypoctrite as so as fundamental muslims.

One man’s freedom fighters are another man’s terrorists. Have you never heard of the Irgun, The Stern Gang and the Haganah? Well they were all terrorists gangs in the days when Jews were fighting to set up a Zionist state on another people’s land. And some of those terrorists (David Ben-Gurion, for one) even became Israeli prime ministers.

Hamas is no more terrorist than those gangs were, probably far less. At least they came to power through a genuine election, the results of which were overturned by the Israelis and others. The Palestinians live under the heel of a terrible oppressor. They are fighting for their freedom and restoration of the rights that have been taken away from them by a people who came from all over the world to settle on their land with foreign financing. And all the weaponry the Israelis bring to bear on them will never quench their thirst for freedom and longing to return to their homeland.

Resistance is the natural result of oppression and is the RIGHT of the oppressed.

I have some sympathy for the author.

Israel was created to be populated by a group who were UNWANTED in Europe. They had been expelled even from Britain though subsequently allowed to return. The ‘solution’ to the European problem was the tragedy imposed on the Palestinians, though other surrounding Arab nations will pay the price too in the not too distant future. The Palestinians were robbed of their hereditary land, homes and other possessions, including as we see today, even of their lives.
Israel is far worse than the LTTE, and is armed to the teeth with the latest in weapons with the biggest threat to world peace, the US, protecting it’s back. The Palestinians don’t stand a chance, and they did not quite understand Netanyahoo when he implored with them ‘to leave’ before he started his bombing campaign. They merely moved to another area in Gaza where they thought they would be safe.

Remember that character Cameron, hailed as a ‘god’ by some Tamils when he visited Jaffna. He was well versed in the law then, and preached human rights from the roof tops. Yet, when the Israelis committed the vile atrocities in the Gaza he feigned ignorance of the law and did NOT utter a single word of criticism, till a minister in his government (who had been the party leader) resigned in disgust.

LTTE selected targets. Properly and promptly returned back to GOSL every time, with their hand made armament. LTTE Controlled or wiped out the communal trouble after JR’s 1983 nursery game. Until Robert Blake messed it LTTE was recognized as government of Tamils.

Hamas, for hobby, just lazily sitting and shooting rockets to Israel and time to time getting that pain relived by Israel. This is why even after Clinton, Bush, Obama everybody got involved on solving that problem, they are not able to force Israel because they can not guarantee Israel, after allowing Palestine go alone, Hamas won’t shoot rockets.

That was not case from 1958 to 1983 with Tamils. 1983 was the first time Tamils returned to Sinhala Buddhist terrorism, using Baddiyudeen Mahamud and Ruff Hakeem like traitors.

The “government of Tamils” selected great, perfectly legitimate targets like the DS baseball team and school buses full of kids :D

Thanks for agreeing. Otherwise it is not the 1983 would have have been an annual war victory ceremony, even Navalli Church, Chenchcholai every thing would have been annual events.

For agreeing with me, in turn, I too would be agreeing on one thing with you. It is really shame to show your Sinhala Buddhist ID. It is really better to go with a Tamil, Hindu instead. Even if it were I, I would have done the same thing. But one thing different; rather than like the Modaya who went to take bath and came back spreading mud all over the body, I would not have hide into a Nambhoothiri camouflage. That is uglier than a Sinhala Buddhist though.

I can try in English, if somebody can understand something beyond words. But what is use blowing a conch to deaf one?

Royal Government uses English too? Then why none of them didn’t read the resolution A/HRC/25/1 so far and screwed it up? Let me ask you question, if anyone of you understand A/HRC/25/1, why did you guys hired the criminal defense lawyer,QC Sir Desmond de Silva? Isn’t A/HRC/25/1 is about an internal and international inquiry yet to come? Is this guy QC Sir Desmond de Silva is going to defend the Royal Family at the Royal Government’s MPCS commission inquiry? Is he going to defend the Royal Family at OHCHR commission too?

Hameed this is one of the very weird articles I have read mainly because I don’t think you know what you are talking about. You said about ANC “would you call the ANC a terrorist organisation and its leaders as terrorists?”. Do you know that ANC always maintained a peaceful struggle and not like Hamas or LTTE which sacrificed babies, children and anyone other than your their members. So please don’t compare people will know you are stupid. Yes Muslims cannot be trusted not like Jews. MuhaMAD is the first to hate Jews even though he “kept” a Jewish woman as his 4th wife after killing her husband and family and this Jewish woman poisoned MuhaMAD and he died after severely suffering from being poisoned. How can Muslims say anything about occupation? Look at the history and then you will see how Muslims invaded other countries and occupied like India, Afghanistan, Malaysia, Iran, Iraq to name a few. How about setting fire and killing over 10,000 Buddhist monks at Nalanda University in India. Do you want some more of the Muslim atrocities over the centuries? Muslims have killed more humans than anyone can count. Look what is happening in Iraq, why don’t you talk about it? Who is killing who and why are they killing Christians there who has the right due to Christian history.

” why don’t you talk about it? Who is killing who and why are they killing “
The Regime in Sri Lanka has incorporated all the terror tactics from dictatorial states and groups to use it against its own citizens, whether they are peaceful protesters or those speaking for their rights.
The number 10,000 pales in comparison to those who have already been killed.

    Muslims are getting attacked everywhere.

Thousands of Muslims were killed by Tamils after getting training from Palestinians in 1970s!!

Hamas and LTTE are freedom fighters and terrorists at the same time
Most governments themselves are even bigger terrorists than rebel groups
But they have more control over the media and thus can influence public perception more easily

    Dear Ms. Manel Fonseka,

Yes I remember reading your inspiring complaint about the Daily Mirror. Unfortunately, like I have mentioned in my article the local English media is towing a line that is hard to fathom.

I have no hope the Sunday Times will publish my response so I sent it across to the CT. Same goes for its sister paper the Daily Mirror which, like you say, would not carry even an innocuous refutation or support for a writer’s view.

I must say I am bit unnerved by the racist comment and ‘willful’ ignorance of some ‘commentators’. I couldn’t believe that anyone could say the ANC did not use force of arms to combat apartheid.

You know I have this sneaky suspicion the ST will carry my response if they can slip an ‘editors note’ vilifying me.

Thank you for your support and stand for humanity! A big thank you also to Jerome, Shihab, James, Indra and others for standing up for humanity! We are not alone. There are Jewish groups also supporting the humanitarian cause of the miserable Palestinians. Two that come to mind are the Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP)and the Neturei Karta among so many individual Jews. You can google them if you wish. Don’t know what those who made such adverse and racist comments might have to say about them.

      Hameed,

When you wrote your article, you let to understand from your part LTTE as a terrorist group. Yet everybody knows LTTE suffered that image only after 9/11 of Muslim extremist’s terrorism. Bush and Blake fought with LTTE only after 9/11. Chandrika was one of the first one to condemn 9/11, comparing with LTTE, even before America locate source of that terror. This game gave her upper hand with Blake and Bush. Stateless LTTE could not do that. Because of this, latter, Blake pressed European countries to declare that LTTE as an international terrorist group. Now, when that pressure is over individual countries have reversed that decision through court verdicts. Though these democratic western countries listed LTTE as terrorist group, from long, long before or even before 1983, many of them had recognized Lanka as anti-Tamil country and refuge producing country and have been accepting Tamil refuges. But, it is the western countries brought the UNHRC resolution. It is the Arab, South Asian and other Muslim countries voted against that. Amusingly, neither Israel nor any Arab or any other Muslim countries have listed LTTE as an International Terrorist Organization. It is so clear, after that, if western countries listing LTTE terrorist organization, it is only with a political object. Your limited ability and the outflowing biased nature either preventing you from understating the circumstances and write an all-inclusive, genuine analysis.
“I must say I am bit unnerved by the racist comment and ‘willful’ ignorance of some ‘commentators’.” When you and ST wanted sling mud at each other, it might have been the better platform. You misunderstanding brought it here. Your cooked up arguments provoked many readers. You behaviors of pledging Tamils to gain favors from notorious government(same of which behaviors of the Muslim leaders has brought the Muslims to this status, a one they did not have to face with previous SLFP and UNP governments) has brought you not well received with CT readers. You do not have an inability to figure out the reason for this reaction; yet you are going ahead and writing more of your sick things in the comment too. Your, above, quoted part of the comment exactly reflecting Fatima’s comments when he (or if he likes she) wrote that everybody killing Muslims. Here, you are not making others to believe that you have inability to understand that the readers reaction is not for because you are a Muslim, but you are trying to hide the truth, it only for biased analysis. By that kind of trick, if you try to prove that you are smarter than Fatima, well, then you deserve much more of the kind of the reaction he gets when he write his thing. Please, then, don’t blame others for your fault.

“There are Jewish groups also supporting the humanitarian cause of the miserable Palestinians”. Are coming to tell “even there can be some traitors in Jews, but we are do not have one like that”? Do you say that not one single article from a Muslims writer can be produced to substantiating the need for the existence of Israel? Please understand, in the western counties, if a Lankan, South Asian, Arabian Muslims have to get a job, it is almost, always from a Jewish company. Please, don’t croak like a well frog from Lanka. Don’t keep demanding to understand only your comfort. Please understand good moments of others too.

Biblical Judea and Samaria had been the land where Kingdoms of Israel and Judah were located. Present day Jews in Israel are the the descendants of the very same people of that Judea and Samaria.

Arabs of the olden days called the entire region of Canaan where semitic tribes wander as nomads the Palestine. Historian Rashid Khalidi says the history of Palestine encompass the Biblical, Roman, Byzantine, Umayyad, Fatimid, Crusader, Ayyubid, Mamluk and Ottoman periods. But the people who live in that area at the time was never known as Palestinians.

In any case, unlike the history of Hebrew or the Jews the history of distinct Palestinian is a disputed issue amongst scholars. David Seddon writes that “the creation of Palestinian identity in its contemporary sense was formed essentially during the 1960s, with the creation of the Palestine Liberation Organization”.

Fast forward to Gaza; though it is not a recognized country, Hamas rule it since Isreal-Gaza war of 2008 and 2009. Article Six of Hamas 1988 charter states that Hamas “strives to raise the banner of Allah over every inch of Palestine” That means, there is no religious freedom in Gaza. In 2007 there were 3,200 Christians living in the Gaza Strip.[4] Half the Christian community in Gaza fled to the West Bank and abroad after the Hamas take-over in 2007. Sheikh Ibrahim Mudayri preached a sermon in which he compared Jews to “a virus, like AIDS.” To say it all in one sentence in a region of religious intolerance, the freedom of religion in Israel is very high.

      1

Wathie says: “Present day Jews in Israel are the the descendants of the very same people of that Judea and Samaria.”

I’m afraid you are very much mistaken, Wathie. Maybe a small fraction of the Jews in Israel can claim (if anyone can make such ridiculous claims about 20 centuries ago) that their forefathers lived in that part of the world in the years BC, but, as Shlomo Sand (Jewish historian at Tel Aviv University) relates it in his book THE INVENTION OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE, the majority of present day Jews are descended from converts thru the ages.

      • 0
        1

Do you not know that one cannot change his religion to Hebrew easily. In fact, to be a Jew, one’s mother (not his father) has to be a Jew. So, when I say “descendants of the very same people of that Judea and Samaria”, manel, I mean to say just that. Never mind where they were residing immediately before they migrated to their ancestral land of Israel, they were descendants of those Jewish tribes. Arabs, Muslims and particularly Palestinians were not like that.

        • 1
          0

Wathie — How about Elizabeth Taylor, for instance? On her marriage to Mike someone who was Jewish, she converted to Judaism. Does that give her an a priori claim to citizenship of Israel–and over and above all thos Palestinian Arabs and Christian who inhabited that land for generations. And just as much as people converted TO Judaism over time, many went the other way. Take, for instance, in the Austro-Hungarian empire many Jews converted. It was only when Hitler came to power they found that having ancestors who were NOT converts meant they were still fodder for the gas ovens.

There is such a mingling of peoples over thousands of years, it is absurd to allow people to stake a claim to a country on their basis of their religious fables and beliefs.

Hamas are saints? They may have been elected by the people but their way of ruling is neither democratic nor fair. They rule with an iron fist and all opposition is crushed with brute force and murder.

They are hiding behind the civilians and firing their rockets indiscriminately at Israeli civilian areas. The reason not many Israeli civilians are killed is because the Hamas rockets are shot down by Israel before they reach the ground. Hamas is an impediment to peace in the middle east and that is a fact.

I am no supporter of Israel who taught Rajapaksa how to fight a dirty war against the tamils and kill thousands of civilians. Israel probably told Rajapaksa to give the “human shield” excuse like they are doing now in the case of Hamas. That is why Rajapaksa, the self proclaimed friend of the Palestinians is keeping silent when his friends are being slaughtered in Gaza.

TNA is the proxy of the terrorist LTTE. Yet ex-SC judge has taken the cudgel of LTTE to get TNA elected to office to fulfil LTTE dream aftermath the war. And Tamils voted it to power. Likewise, Palestinians have elected Hamas to office to fulfil their dream.

Perhaps for the same reason Sarath Fonseka the former Military Commander contested the presidential elections with the support of TNA.

Perhaps for the same reason MR paid VP a tidy some and won the elections.

Is it for the same reason Premadasa provided arms and funds to VP?

Re. Palestine. During annexure after World War II, What were the neighboring Islamic countries doing? Even now such neighbors Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman & the Arab Emirates don’t seem to care or be concerned. The Sri Lankan Muslims seem to be very knowledgable and concerned about the Palestinian issue much more than the other regional Islamic countries like Malaysia, Indonesia & Brunei.
Wake up Sr Lankan Muslim Brothers and Sisters, we have issues of safeguarding ourselves here, being a minority living amongst a Majority religious community. Let us be sensible, adjust and live peacefully in this country of our birth. When we are down, none of the so called Islamic countries will be of assistance to us. Like being silent in the Gaza massacre.
This hyped support for Palestine by Sri Lankan Muslims is like them supporting the Pakistan Cricket Team whenever they are playing against the Sri Lankan Team. BBS (Bloody Bull Shit).

“Star of Palestine” that means borrowing from China and paying to Palestine. That is a kind of bank rolling.

When America blocked Iran’s oil import, King got Caliph from Bahrain. If America did not poke its finger into Iran nose, it would have been “Ayatollah (King)” not “Caliph(King)”. China’s dollar bills can by PhD for peace from Russia too(Son Prince is getting his PhD from Visaka Girls high school). Basically, this is an attachment to the Chinese Dollar Bills(not American), not an approval of Palestinian plights.

there are some EXTREMIST MODA SINHALE DONKEYS in my country. I would say before put your thoughts into words, do some research about Palastine.

Sri Lankan Muslims have suffered as much as any other Sinhalese in my country for the last 25 years with the war.

Have you forgotten the Heroes of the Sri Lankan Army the Muslims who fought hand in hand with the Sinhalese against the LTTE.

What would happen if Indians come tomorrow to Sri Lankan and corned all the sinahles and Muslims including the tamils in Colombo and barricade? What would you do when they ask you to leave your home and get lost??

When the United Nations bought the Human Rights Case against there were more than 15 Muslims countries who supported Sri Lanka?

You are all racist. Racism has no place in my loving country doesn’t matter your are own countryman. make sure your facts are correct. I am ashamed to be a Buddhist since my country is losing the same faith they brought fairness, love and kind to all mankind has now lost in words. Does Buddhism has any place for racism?
