DDR & The Moral-Cum-Political Question

By Ameer Ali

Dr. Ameer Ali

The Governor of CBSL Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, in view of forthcoming Domestic Debt Restructuring (DDR) process and speculations surrounding it, had taken advantage of the five days extended bank holiday period to reassure the country’s financial community that there would be no reduction in either the deposits placed by customers in the financial institutions or interest rates paid on them and that the stability of the financial system would be ensured through what he called earlier as “voluntary optimization”. This announcement should be considered more as a measure to prevent panic within the financial community, which if eventuates could lead to a run on the banks and collapse of the financial system, rather than a solid guarantee that there would be no adverse impact at all to domestic financial institutions, and that everything would be back to normal at the end of the restructuring exercise. President Ranil Wickremesinghe (RW) has also endorsed the Governor’s announcement and added that “the country’s economic recovery, reduction in interests, the government’s ability to provide subsidies easily, and the reduction of both domestic and foreign debt burden in the next decade will yield positive results benefitting the people of the country” (DFT, 28/6/23). However, unless the Governor has a magic wand to produce a financial miracle to settle the government’s debt to domestic creditors as per schedule there is no way that domestic banks and non-bank financial intermediaries could avoid some sort of a haircut. Because, the whole idea of a haircut arose when international creditors with the support of IMF prefer that there should be equity in sharing the burden if SL were to maintain debt sustainability. DDR is therefore the essential half of debt restructuring (DR). A haircut is unavoidable, and the only issue is how trim or scruffy that haircut going to be. Yet, one cannot jump into any conclusion until the whole exercise is completed and financial institutions themselves make their own assessment of the exercise. Let us give the benefit of doubt to the Governor.

But one thing is certain. Economic and living conditions for the vast majority in post-debt-restructured Sri Lanka is not going to be anything rosier than that of the pre-debt-restructured era. The debt moratorium, which allowed the government to ease at least part of the economic discomfort endured by the population, will come to an end, and debt servicing would resume according to the newly agreed terms and conditions. Therefore, foreign exchange accumulation must accelerate to meet the combined demand from debt servicing and domestic needs.  Economy growth should therefore be robust to earn a surplus. That growth and surplus have to come through increasing investment and exports. This is where the global economic environment is going play a decisive role. With an ongoing war in Europe causing spiralling effect on inflation and interest rates the general economic environment abroad will not be very conducive for Sri Lankan markets to perform exceptionally well. RW’s predictions about the next decade is too far away in economic terms.

Apart from the issues of economics and finance surrounding DR and DDR, there is a moral and political question which should be answered only by President RW. Dr. Weerasinghe is doing what is necessary under the IMF agenda so that the damage done by his two immediate predecessors, one a professor in economics and the other a qualified accountant, could be repaired. His two who predecessors surrendered the independence of CBSL to the political whims of RW’s immediate predecessor Gotabaya Rajapaksa (GR). Instead of taking a non-political stand on monetary policy they made it a tool to support GR’s economic thought bubbles. GR too was acting not on his own but on the advice of the so-called Viyathmaga experts and with support from his brother MR’s cabinet and government. GR ’s irrational and impulsive “alternate development path” was therefore a collective decision made by himself, cabinet, members of the ruling party and more importantly, SLBC’s two Governors. It was that development path which led to financial bankruptcy and economic crisis. The pandemic only expedited the disaster.

Today, while ordinary citizens, who had nothing to do with the calamity, and financial institutions that profited from the system are being asked to share the burden of reparation why are those who were instrumental in causing that calamity left untouched and without being asked to account for their misadventure and share a significant part of the burden? Is this not a moral-cum-political question that should be answered by RW who is promising the moon to people by 2048? Those same mis-adventurers are still in government calling the shots and RW’s political survival depends on their backing. According to one report, the President of Inter Company Employees Union and the JVP had filed a human rights case at the Supreme Court against government’s attempt at DDR. At least they have a moral duty to do so.

RW has sacrificed the moral ground in the interest of his political present and future. A piece of news in circulation that RW’s name is being floated as the SLPP-UNP joint candidate at the next presidential election, although denied by MR, is not altogether empty of substance. In the face of rising popularity of NPP/JVP, which is promising to introduce accountability for economic mismanagement, a joint candidacy either with UNP or SJB looks a winnable choice for the SLPP mis-adventurers.

Ameer Ali,’In the face of rising popularity of NPP/JVP, which is promising to introduce accountability for economic mismanagement, a joint candidacy either with UNP or SJB looks a winnable choice for the SLPP misadventures.”
This is unlikely as Ranil will not allow NPP/JVP/or an Independent candidate as their nominee to contest. Instead they will be put them behind bar under one pretext or the other.

This is my understanding of Ranil as a western backed neo-liberal democratic politician.

Secondly Ranil will ensure that the Presidential Election precedes any other elections because in such any other election his opponents popularity will be confirmed and once the lead and the momentum is established, the winner of any Presidential election is simply a walk over.

This is the fate if one is not interested in systemic changes and happy to work within the existing systems, that will get more and more corrupted as time goes!.

The question that needs to be asked …… did/do the people/country benefit from all these billions of borrowings? ……… Do the borrowings sustain the citizens or the rulers?

Do the IMF borrowings now sustain the people or Ranil – Ranil as the president/ruler? …….. Our own Lacille offers some insights …… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04vw8bprGFE

Now, which among my fellow “Sinhalese” ……… believe that it would have been better ……… if Prabakaran was still alive? :))

That’s why I say Native Vedda’s thinking stops at a point ….. however hard he tries he cannot transcend his “Sinhalese-ness:” he doesn’t think as a thinker; he thinks as a “Sinhalese.”

Perhaps, the only “Sinhalese” who can transcend his “Sinhalese-ness” is Old Codger ……… but he has his own poison: women. Women make a beeline to his Achilles heel. He has the same weakness for Ranil. Ranil’s got his number as much as Ramona or any other gal !

          It’s fascinating …….. from afar. :)))

Sirisena is spending three days in the North.
            Do you know why?
Did you advise him to beg for Nallur Kantha for Northern Votes?

Champika Ranawake too went to Jaffna a few months ago.
Do you think Wimal Sangili Karuppan Weerawansa too will visit Nallur Kanthan to pray for blessings?

You are very relaxed about elections.

By the way I am thinking of taking up mugging rather than politics.
            What is your advice?

              Native,

Answer me this, ………. did Prabakaran destroy us …….. or did we destroy ourselves?

Don’t you think Prabakaran, unbeknownst to him ……… was trying to save us? …… The “Sinhalese” had it better when he was still around: he was keeping the country/economy afloat: we never went bankrupt. Our “Sinhalese” couldn’t have conducted the war if the country was bankrupt. So, unbeknownst to him, with a gun to their head, he forced the “Sinhalese” to keep the country afloat. Strange but true!

He would’ve run the Central Bank like clockwork: if the war-machine he built from ground-up is any indication. You will never comprehend that because he kicked your sorry “Sinhalese” ass!

Who killed more Prabakarn or your heroes? At least Prabakaran was a straightforward honest killer unlike your Ranil!

You may not get this even in a million years ………. Prabakaran, when he was still alive ……… saved the “Sinhalese” too: “Sinhalese” from the “Sinhalese!”

                He was a saviour!

Throwaway Ranil’s, Mahinda’s, Sirisena’s, Wimal’s, Sonali’s, Buddha’s statues ……… and replace them all with just one: Prabakaran’s. …….. He had done more for the “Sinhalese” than all the others put together ……… and then some!!

Native, you don’t think as a thinker …….. you think as a “Sinhalese.” ………. At times, even as a “Sinhalese-Buddhist!”

In the end ….. it’s this strange kind of masochism people are addicted to ………. people like to be abused by their own kind.

Yesterday the parliament agreed on DDR the media says.
Isn’t it euphemism for how to share benefits among the crooks, for example World bank has offered $700 million, IMF ageed $3.5 billion, Asian development bank $…… million, ….

What are you planning to do about it?
Do you think the best cause of action is to sit on the wall?

Which Pohottuwa politician would have backed DDR pre-2020? Who would have backed selling off Srilankan or splitting up the CEB? But they do now, including their leader. So, it is the other way around. The misadventurers depend on RW for their survival.

            Native,
Sunil Ariyaratna seems to have some novel views, apart from his blind faith that the Buddha came here three times. He suggests that, if the Sinhala bhikkus had been as energetic in the North/East as they are in Europe, there would have been many Tamil Buddhists and therefore less ethnic problems. Of course, any fool knows that the real reason bhikkus go to Europe is to sponge off the rich Sinhala diaspora and gullible Europeans. You know Northern Tamils are too tight-fisted to tolerate anything like that.

              OC

Its only the Sinhala Buddhists who visit SL temples, not foreigners. Even I stopped going many years ago but often visit ‘Amarawathie’ temple near Hemel Hampstead, which is an extension of the original monastery in Chithurst, a small village in Hampshire, founded by a Western Monk, Ajhan Sumedho around 1979 with funding from the Thai govt & Thai donors. The monks do not handle money & live a simple life as defined by Buddha. The conduct of the monks is an example for SL monks & their sermons & meditation classes are very popular with Buddhists & non Buddhists. The same can’t be said about SL Buddhist temples.
I came across Chithurst monastery by accident whilst on a Sunday drive in the summer in the early 80s during my student days & was impressed by the monks who even went on ‘pindapatha’ in the village in summer. The villagers were concerned at the beginning, thinking they were a Hare Krishna cult but soon became accepted & over the years, the growing popularity required a branch temple & the temple in Hemel Hempstead was founded.

          Native,
“Are all Sri Lankan Buddhists, Sinhalese?”
Of course they aren’t. But they all speak Sinhalese ……
Recently Derana Dilith came out with a new theory, that anyone who lives in this country is a Sinhala Buddhist. The guy must have discovered his own ancestry.
I have myself spoken to old grandmothers in the South who are quite aware that their grandmothers were not regarded as “Sinhalese”.
The same process is currently going on with the upcountry Tamils, some of whom have Sinhala style names, eg Sellasamige Sunil. For some reason, Derana, while showing that famous kidney stone, titled the lead doctor as”K. Sudarshana” in Sinhala. His real name is Kugadas Sudarshan.

I totally agree with you. Since they came to power, Rajapakse criminals fooled the nation as nothing can reverse the mentality of the fool
and their specialty is/was to grab votes under the guise of stupid dominant nation. I really don’t know how any politician can be so crooked. And peoples to keep the faith on them ? How stupid people should be , if scale is there, 9 out of 10. Alas, what happened to our nation ?
They were only trying to get rid of their numerous lawsuits, however, stupid people were misled as usual. Today both deceived people and opponents remain silent. What a nation ?

All they achieved in their favor under Gota was exemption from their court cases. How criminal it should be. …. ?Why do local and international media behave deaf and blind ?
Either the judges also danced to the feet of the Rajapaksas, or those who filed cases against the Rajapaksas have not done it completely.

The fear that Ameer Ali is speaking of was always there. If not we would not have gone to IMF.
Going to IMF was not to evade the pain but to ease it.
The failure of the development plans is nothing new. Sri Lanka has never adhered to a plan to the finish.
Economy survives with rigidity. We have been abandoning our pursuits with change of governments. The only rigidity that every government has shown is in dealing with minority rights. Not even an NPP/JVP ticket can break that continuity.

      Nathan,
“Economy survives with rigidity”. Exactly. We change governments and economic systems every time the price of parippu goes up. We expect free handouts without work. the other day, TV showed a Samurdhi beneficiary complaining, with a large flat TV in the background! Asian countries which prospered had a fixed plan and a continuous government but not much of “democracy” as we see it.
Read what you will into that.

      Dear Nathan,
      .
In today’s context in a shrinking economy, no leader of Sri Lanka can do miracles.
Even so, our estranged Sinhala_Man (NIC hunter of the day), who doesn’t speak Sinhala, thinks that AKD can make anything happen overnight with his “Aladdin’s Wonder Lamp”. I do not at all believe that many would support his opinion. His answers are mostly like “koheda yanne malle pol”.

Since AKD has already taken over his “IDIAMIN style regime” in our motherland, Sinhala man has banned me from speaking for our people. Can you imagine the mentality of SINHALA_Man?

I have no doubt, if this snake_man wanted to mutilate me the way Jamal Khashoggi faced it, he would be more than happy. This is unfortunately the poisonous nature of our human-reptiles. This country is cursed by the kind of malice. In between, I have lost my sympathy to this nation. I instead, love the nature and fauna in this country.
      .
We should thank Nathan for speaking the truth. Non-biased CT reviewers encourage us to at least give it a listen.
Most people don’t take them seriously. Thanks again Nathan.

          Hello Nathan,
          .
Who are you referring to here? I guess it is about the commenter Sinhala man. Sinhala_Man is against me and the OC, however we recently proved that his comments are always off topic. Like Dayan Jayatilaka, he also thinks that they may be the representatives of the educated in our society. However, LJ and many others have recently made it clear that his views are completely off.
My point is, I don’t want to replace barbarism with the current situation just because his naivety doesn’t allow him to see the bigger picture. I know how much they suffered in the 89 era, how much the Tamils and many of us Sri Lankans suffered from unnecessary wars based on barbaric acts.
Our nation must not be stupid anymore, so I am struggling to open people’s eyes.

Yes. This is a well known fact that RW is a western sponsored politician. Even The “Aragalya” movement was considered as a left initiated it has highjacked and sponsored by USA. It became easy because of greedy and power hungry corrupted Rajapaksa family who highjacked the elimination of LTTE as their victory ignoring the Sinhala people. RW’s focus was not the economic recovery but only the Power and he got it. RW well aware that he is not going to be in power more than two years and for his safety, he will not touch Rajapaksa family as he had a secret deal with Rajapaksas.

What will happen to the nation if RW rejected it?
Why should we be so sick not to respect him yet today ?

We must learn to give credit where credit is due. Today, powerful Sinhala Buddhist monks are forever mute. They know that this nation has been misled BY THEM to allow such consequences. However, they are not the only force that has dragged us to such depths.

In the unexpected situation caused by Gota-silly-politics, the only wish of the people was to provide them with essential materials such as food, medicine, today’s normal operations, fuel, etc. Because Gota’s government failed to fulfill all these due to various stupid decisions.
In a civilized world, Gota and Rajapaksa would have been publicly hanged to appease the anger of the battered nation. However, our law and order are filled with numerous pot holes.

Unfortunately, it seems that the prevailing legal system does not allow such punishments for politicians and especially the Rajapaksas who created a society beyond all ethics and morals. There are no social groups that have not been tamed by the Rajapaksa brothers, including the curse of the nation, the Sri Lankan biased media networks. They are burying the truth, and set them in favor of Rajapaksa for some hidden reasons.

Without fertilizers and manure, farmers were forever helpless. Today they dont even talk about the alarming issues …. ????
Due to this, there was no daily supply of vegetables and fruits and there was an unprecedented shortage in the country. It was the beginning of skyrocketing prices of daily necessities as well.
        .
Before coming to parliament from the national list, RW waited long . He proved that he could do unprecedented things in a short period of time, save the nation from a bunch of thugs, but using the prevailing parliamentary composition in favour of the bunch. SRILANKEN monks that spearheaded GOTA and Rajapakshe brothers be the saviours of this nation are speechless today. People hate both RAJAAPKSHEs and SINHALA BUDDHIST MONKs: However, this rotten country has no proper systems to punish them yet. Media behaves in favour of their commercial links.. leaving the public and their helplessness.

The achievements so far include getting aproved with the International Monetary Fund, providing fuel to the people, restoring law and order etc. So it was by no means easy to accomplish. If the Janata Vimukthi Peramuna were given power, they would not get it.
Not much was expected from him in a country ravaged by a destroyer such as GOTABAYA, driven out of the country by the ARAGALAYA youth.
          .
There are many people who believe that even a “coconut shell” would have been won in our motherland and beleive our people be extremely stupid.
It is valid to the consciousness of our nation filled with 3 major communities and many more. Whole lot of people are silent today, it is because the sky rocketting cost lof living or any thing else is not yet clear. May our people be blessed with brains, that is my wish !

“However, this rotten country has no proper systems to punish them yet.”
Don’t you think that RW is part of the system for more than a half a century and when he had the oppotunity to remove the existing executive system which was created by his Uncle from the same political party which he now owns as his own family property for more than two decades and still he uses that the same power to protect the Rajapaksa criminals and to arrest innocent peaceful protestors.

“Looking back now RW took the risk and AKD, Sarath Fonseka, Son aka SP turned it down.
What will happen to the nation if RW rejected it?”
No one will answer for this question because None of they were given the opportunity to run this government in the past. We don’t know exactly what happened between Gota and Ranil or Gota and Other leaders, But definitely better than Gota and Rajapaksa regime.

“However, our law and order are filled with numerous pot holes.”
The law and order of the country are filled with numerous pot holes but there is no will of the political leaders to implement even the existing laws lawfully. If the law permits the arrest of a doctor or a parliamentarian or a protestor under the PTA why cannot you arrest those who attacked the peaceful protestors and those who brought the country into bankgrutcy?
The fact is that President is not elected by people but by Gota and Rajapaksa family. Why the President is afraid to face the his own people to get a mandate to resolve all the political and Economic problems for better Sri Lanka?

“The Governor of CBSL …has taken advantage of the five days extended bank holiday period to reassure the country’s financial community that there would be no reduction in either the deposits placed by customers in the financial institutions or interest rates paid on them”
    *
Surely, what is the worth of the reassurance? What will 5 days’ closure achieve for any doubt that may exist about the security of the said investments.
Was the financial community happy with the enhanced interest rates that prevailed not long ago?
The government had already reduced the premium interest rate offered to FDs of senior citizens by 3.5%.

        Dear Paul,
        .
I only know one Nanayakkara who ruined this country being together with medamulana beasts. His total disagreement to go IMF created a larger wound out of a tiny one and put the island nation in danger. Medamulana dogs did not give the precedence to the people s alarming issues either.
I dont wish him a natural death and be his last moment be transquil, looking at the manner, how his strong disagreement going to IMF. These are real human beasts brought this society to appalling levels.

Vasudewa turned out to be VASIDEWA during the recent years, curse go to Medamulana Mafia Boss. His behaviour was like that of a raped woman looking back. Rape victims are said to have no other options than to fall deeper over time.

There are times, I really wonder how could even that radical SAMAJAWADHI men turned out to be cheap politicians. In my adolencence these men were held like HEROES in may day rallies and some sort of special respect was given to them. Today, it has turned out to be total opposite for some various reasons. I am ashamed to even look back the way it deteriorated.

      SJ,
Punters are actively promoting a run on the banks by spreading rumours about the government taking part of people’s savings. The plan was to buy up bank shares and sell them when they bounce back.
BTW, wasn’t the “premium interest rate” of 15% less than the current FD rate, which is around 20%?

He will love to hear that now.
I know for sure that very strong advice against ban on import of fertilizer was given by a sizeable group of scientists close to the SLPP. There was lobbying too.
GR had to choose among conflicting pieces of advice, and he chose in his own wisdom.

Gota is not the first one to chose his own wisdom to ruin the country however there have been many in the past, for example Banda and Siri Mao used their own wisdom, or mostly lack of it to set fire to the island. The island is still burning.

With the domestic debt restructuring, most ordinary people will lose bank interest on their deposits, so much so that they will not even retain much of the purchasing power available to them in the face of galloping inflation. Poor people will also lose payouts on insurance claims, health insurance will be curtailed to a raw minimum, and fixed deposits will eventually become a loss, together with cuts in earnings from their EPF. All in all, the govt will escape scot-free as will those economic hitmen who destroyed the economy and are starving one third of the population, while crony corporates (companies) will retain their assets and returns at the cost of the poor. Nothing short of a people’s uprising to claim back their country from the pack of jackals that run the system will suffice.

    • 2

Not a chance with the people’s uprising as the military leaders have been bought up by the SLPP, with Ranil to give the word on the heavy batons, poison gas, imploding water cannons, jail, torture, and death.

Visiting South Korean delegations were recently revealing the truth about the beginning of their development in that country. Some have mortgaged their gold to banks so that the government can earn revenue. Some had given free services not demanding any compensations.
At the beginning of South Korea’s technological revolution, there was a shortage of funds. Remember, We Sri Lankans used to call them shanty dwellers. wHENEVER our people lived under poverty, we pointed the finger at them calling ” like in korea”. Remember ? Today our youth give cheap labour to that country which is rebuilt by them over the last 20 years…… so, what should we learn from that ?

The moral questions are 1. why cannot the stolen assets be recovered, especially when there are simple procedures available through the World Bank and some western governments in whose banks the money is kept. Nigeria got back some 3 billion dollars stolen by its dictator, Abacha. (2) why is no proper action being taken regarding the Express Pearl disaster where damages exceeding a couple of billion dollars can be recovered. (3) What is happening to the bond scam and the monies involved. Hard questions to answer but the people are entitled to their money back. Why are the politicians silent?

    • 3

      C,
stolen wealth is not even discussed by local press today. Nor have the international community supported the sinking SRILANKA to clear that yet.
Crying babies, aka JVPrs continue with the allegations, however, not much is changed with the judiciary in that regard. If IMF recommendations would work in that line, the interim govt would not long last because its composition is founded on the alleged stealers.
SRILANKA is not alone, many countries and their leaders that looted state properties are not yet investigated. This is a real grey area where international experts can hardly succeed.

Is anybody understand what is the debt restructuring? The money borrowed by government from the banks will not be paid for next 5 or 10 years.Does that mean that the government will not get any more debts from banks?

    • 0

      ajith
“Is anybody understand what is the debt restructuring?”

my basic understanding is that it is a haircut for the lenders. Now in the case o the international lenders we are asking them to have a 30% haircut. They in turn are saying what about the loans borrowe by the government from the domestic banks. If we are to get a haircut they should also get a haircut.

basically i find it difficult to argue against that argument of theirs. However if govt banks like peoples bank and bank of ceylon have had no option but to give loans to the government because of pressure from the govt then i think it is unreasonable to ask them to have a haircut because it is not their fault if they had to give loans.

It finally boils down to fairness. The domestic lending institutios knew the risk in lending to the government or should have known the risk.If we are to ask the international lenders to get a 30% haircut we have to ask the same from domestic.

to aswer your question in a simple way, just imagine you gave a loan of a million rupees to your wifes brother so that your wife will be happy and give you a good time in bed and lovely fragrant rice and curries and hoppers and kiribtha and pittu every day.Now if you hadn’t given thet loan she would got cheesed off and had had a headache every time you wanted to make love and your curries would not have salt.or chillies etc.

Your brother in law agrees to pay back the loan in 5 years time.he pays back rs 300000 only by the 5th year and says he will pay the balance in another 5 years but in the meantime can you give him rs.500000 which he will pay back in 5 years.

what will you do.one option-tell your wife toget stuffed and get a mistress. 2nd option -avoid a messy divorce and lose assets, not see children whenever you want to and give the brother in law 300000 rupees after negotiating with him.In effect you have loaned him agin the very same money he paid back but your wife is all smiles whenever she greets you and even leadsyou herself to the bedroom when you comefrom work.

The average citizen is not interested in debt structuring but concerned about survival & the future. The politicians & their cronies brought about the catastrophe but while the poor citizens are suffering the consequences, those responsible continue their luxury lifestyle. Only the JVP/NPP are promising accountability, that is, if they are in power, but pigs could be flying when culprits are rounded up. If the JVP/NPP can pressure RW &, at least, to initiate an enquiry now, I will have some faith in them. Otherwise, it’s just like the fizz in a bottle of soda.

In UK, the ‘Parliamentary Select Committee’, comprised of govt & opposition members, investigate wrong doings. Currently, the handling of the pandemic is being investigated but though the committee has no power to penalise, the findings can escalate to legal proceedings if corruption is identified. A similar committee found Boris J lacked integrity & his political comeback is over, even though he still has a few supporters. In contrast, Rajapakses may be licking their wounds but very likely to initiate a comeback & that would be the final nail in the coffin

Yes DDR has to be implemented. However, the most important point has not been addressed. Before implementing DDR as proposed, there should be a guarantee and a mechanism implemented independently to recover the stolen money. This operation should be done without the involvement of the Attorney General as he has actively participated in “nidoskot nidahas” cases of those who stole money. He has also not taken any action against the monies invested overseas by politicians and also businessmen. Unless a suitable law as mentioned above is not in the law books of Sri Lanka DDR if approved should not be implemented. If Sri Lanka can amend constitutions in weeks why not pass such a law on a priority basis?

Moderate politicians of all active parties and civic organizations should come together and stand collectively against the rascals and miscreants. I still believe all parties have at least a tiny portion of good politicians.
We can do this if we form a coalition against them. Below are some of cheap men that worked for the agendas of some crooked politicians who have made the nation fool eternally.
    .
1)Wimal Buruwansa (remember the manner, how the imbecile provoked how it would be MAHATHIR MOHAMMED and LQYU together ?????)
    2)Jonsten Fernando
3)Pawithra Vanniarachchi (her total ignornace and unedcuatedness killed thousands of COVID-19 Infected patients)
    4)Jayasumana
    5)Tissa Kuti Arachchi
    6)Sanath Nishantha
    7)Rohitha Abeygunawardena
    8)Wimalaweera or betel nut chewer
    9)Madhu Madhava Aravinda
10)Jackson Anthony (although now in a coma)

Any neutral and unbiased lankens should get together to stand against these men and many others of that nature. please join in listing as many of them as you can. Society should cast them out and brand them as “human beast kings”.
    .
Not only the JVP-led NPP, but everyone should come together to imprison these men forever. Consequences will be positive because the voices of those men misled millions of people in this Rajapakshe punished land.

What is little by little coming out is that the World Bank and IMF will go ahead and even hack all the Langkang computers and make the Aanduwa to surrender the future of the EPF contributors, the same way China did in 2013, after borrowing from China for Nuraicholai and later threatening to give it to India for repair. The IMF, WB, and China are the main parties who are insisting on forcing the haircut for Modayas who contributed to EPF, in order to turn them also “beg and eat bald heads”, while the stealers of that money are wearing 900 sovereign gold rings for their pet’s dicks and post the photo in Instagram. Did ever anybody ask the Modaya crowd’s permission to throw their hard-earned money on a Ponzi scheme of lending to a bankrupted bastardy government, Why the EPF Modayas have to bear the burden of this Ponzi scheme? Did they benefit anything out of the lucrative White Elephant contracts which were carried out 2-4 times higher than the market price? Do they have any shares in the banks and investment companies who are holding the $30B deposits? Why are those crooks who induced the Rowdy Royals to go for the burglaries now shying or backtracking to bear the weight?

Can one financier or one economist or one legal or expert in logic explain to me why the EPF contributors are being forcefully dragged into this racketeering & getting roasted. Lakshman Kirella asked why the Treasury & Central bank jobs are being debated in the parliament for voting? They don’t answer these in parliament, but any readers, can you guess anything for it? Is that because the powerful finance minister is the president, and he can get into parliament and impose anything on opposition MPs too? Is that because the Central Bank governor only a Kacooli of the president & the buggers had independent authority? How many Central Banks this Evil managed before grabbing full control of CBSL. Are the media in Langkang writing that this country is going to get out of bankruptcy in September and that it is the final bankruptcy of this Wildlife Sanctuary, SinhaLE Lankawe? The 30% of the $65b government indebtedness is $20B. So does anybody have seen the long term budget or payment schedule of the remaining $45B and its effect on the country’s productivity, exchange rate, inflation, health, social welfare … .like important economic data? Can the Evil honestly reveal to whom the future generation life is pawned by these Nariya tricks? This guy told in Japan that Eastern countries should build their own IMF and, in the US, India forced unwanted loans.

There is a law that a worker must contribute to EPF so that EPF can invest the money. Then isn’t it a fiduciary responsibility of the EPF managers to invest that money in sound & reliable private stocks? Why did those crooks play party politics and give that money for Thali Kodi snatching thieves? How can these managers use these poor people’s savings to save War Criminal Rowdy Royals and seek better positions for them in the government service? The Internal Social Service Lawyers must take this case outside of Lanka, like ICC or even ICJ. How can Evil be saying “agree to give up that money or pay an additional 30% tax”. Shouldn’t that be challenged in a progressive court to save the victims? There is no way somebody can seek justice in Langkang for this because this is a guarantee which is intertwined with IMF & WB loans. So, when a UN’s organizations are going against the people of Langkang that case has to be filed at ICC against Appe Aanduwa and IMF. This forceful haircut the government is trying to impose on people, and it originated from IMF, it cannot be challenged in local SC because SC and the CBSL are the torch carriers for Aanduwa’s crimes.

How is it that rich people invest their money in John Keels, Hayley’s, Lolc, HNC and other profit-making organizations but poor people’s money is being gambled in Ponzi schemes created and floated by Appe Aanduwa, CBSL & treasury? It is said that about 3.8 trillion Rupees of EPF money is in jeopardy. It is about $15b. Man, it’s all shocking. Is all this being reported in monetary value or the Presidential Palace toilet paper value? Poor people & the middle class are losing this much. Then can Evil and Ministers put out on the local media how much of their investments they sacrificed for these DDR games? How can an unlimitedly powerful finance minister-president play with people’s money and escape out the responsibility for answering to that by using all provisions in the Constitution? This is the man who refused to go to court on 4/21’s Tamils parishioners’ massacre and the subsequent Muslims/Sinhalese riots. Junius Richard cried with all the authority vested with him that he still couldn’t make men into women so no one would be asking him what he was doing. But this all-powerful Finance minister so easily has made so hard-earned peoples’ money into ashes without any problem.

      Malli,
“How is it that rich people invest their money in John Keels, Hayley’s, Lolc, HNC and other profit-making organizations?”
If you look carefully, the EPF does invest in these companies, so it’s not only rich people. Also, don’t forget even rich people have EPF accounts.
The “Ponzi schemes” (treasury bills) that the EPF invests in have been paying up to 35% for the last year or so. So, taking even a 50% cut on that is no big deal, because they pay the depositors only 9%.

More than about $18 billion (Now $30B) of Rowdy Royals’ money is in foreign banks, based on the information in 2016 Mangala released saying that he got that from 4 important countries. Did any one of those countries use their detectives and financial audit authorities to locate that money and return it to the Langkang people? Thinking about returning that money to Langkang, seems like a joke? Does one have any sense of how much is $30B? In this precarious situation, would any one of the countries where the money is invested chose to pull out their share of $30 and send it back to Langkang? Come on, don’t underestimate the whole world as they all are only Sinhala Buddhist Modayas, who happily burn their own money to save the Royals from their crimes? Whether there will be any International Investigation on Rowdy Royals or not, in order to save the Royals, the Evil Emperor is pledging $30B by refusing to ask those countries to return that money, but only selling the country to China, India, IMF, Paris Club…….. Without any conditions on how the government should be run, the IMF is giving another $3B to the Appe Aanduwa so the Rowdy Royals can take it back to IMF countries and deposit there.

Ranil and Moral are poles apart. When aragalaya was on he supported it and even as the PM he supported it. Once he became the President the tune changed. Similarly, he wants to appoint Deshabandu as IGP knowing well what a crook he is. He appointed Tiran as Minister of Public Security knowing well he is the one who carried the money to LTTE given by Mahinda Rajapaksa. Since Ranil became the President human riots violations of the armed forces and police have increased also with it the underworld killings. What has Ranil delivered until now? Nothing other than paving the way to borrow more when in the first place it’s the borrowing that made the country go bankrupt.

So Ranil and Moral are wide apart and Ranil can never be trusted and he is cruel.

      Contd.

Ranil is now in the process of controlling even the actions of the Parliament. How can he say that the COPE and COPF cannot question the heads of ministries and corporations? Ranil has forgotten that Parliament belongs to the people and not to the President. President has no power over the Parliament other than dissolving or calling for the throne speech. Unfortunately, we have a Speaker who violates the constitution and the standing orders repeatedly. In such a circumstance, the Speaker has surrendered the Parliament to Ranil. Unfortunately, we now experience illegal control over free speech afforded in the constitution and above all state terrorism.

    Dear Old,
The “Ponzi schemes” (treasury bills) that the EPF invests in have been paying up to 35% for the last year or so. I wasn’t aware that the government has been paying 35% for EPF investments and opened the hand for the other loan givers so ended up as a bankrupt country! An investable instrument must generate a steady income and it must pay the interest and the principle. Which of the government’s revenue sources is generating enough income to give out 35%? Isn’t that a Ponzi scheme? The basic thing is the past government brought inconsistent rules to borrow from EPF. That was wrong and against all pension funds investment principles. Many MPs, in the past, raised it in parliament. Why did Aanduwa borrow from EFP & pay 35% EPF? Is that in reverse order, Aanduwa was investing its excess money in EPF? EPF managers must understand their job, they only invest but do not get into high-risk lending. Can EPF recover its money like China did in Hangbangtota? By the EPF law, the retirement for the private employees comes from their salary, EPF management invests it & ensures the fund is enough to pay employees who are retiring. Where did the calculation go wrong? The too high 35% suggest that internally somebody has been robbing from Aanduwa in the name of retirement!

“So, taking even a 50% cut on that is no big deal, because they pay the depositors only 9%” Please read my comment and understand it first before you start to prescribe what is good for the employee (aka the Modayas.) You seem to have lost the reasoning of why a government, what is franchise, what is voting. So, your logic is standing far away from discussing anything in CT. You need to understand what fiduciary responsibility is and what the insider info in investing is. The Aanduwa crooks who bankrupted the government invested the people’s pension money in it. They were 100% sure what kind of Gambling (or a Ponzi scheme) they were playing with EPF funds, which they had no authority to play with. This is an open crime, so the criminals must be taken to ICC or ICJ and punished. Especially, the Batalanda Criminals must be punished this time. When a person is rendered unable to impose his/her wish, a lawful trustee acts in those incapacity circumstances. Here the issue is about property (money). Because of the nature of growing expenses & growing inflation, a stagnant property loses value, so the fiduciary manager must manage the property’s growth in genuine interest for the owner. Certainly, that did not happen when Aanduwa borrowed from EPF! EPF did not invest, but its money was stolen.

In 2017, the Evil Emperor handed over Hangbangtota Harbor to China with 5 villages land because the country was bankrupt even at that time and the country did not have money to pay off its loan. It is known for all Langkang Modayas. Then why did the comedians at EPF bet their money on that government? Because they were practicing horse racing? UNHRC Resolution 50/1 has declared that in Langkang Economic crime took place and it is Human Rights violation. Listen, all these bastards must be tied to trees separately and the New King’s Thirukkai Vaal must be given to the hand of Mervyn de Silva! That is the only way to save these Horras from an international investigation into their financial crimes. The problem is the social service lawyers in Langkang have fallen asleep. That is why the Evil Emperor is taking Treasury and Central Bank matters to be passed at parliament and have him protected, the same way he protected Rowdy Royals. In 2021, Hitler King took a different decision, i. e. instead of selling the country’s properties to debtors, he declared bankruptcy. But, in a private person issue, declaring bankruptcy can secure court protection, but in a country’s situation, it does not make much difference.

That is why China, and its sister organization IMF forced the private employees to shoulder the debt with their pension & EFP., while they completely unrelated party to thefts through white Elephants projects and Genocide wars. Unlike in the Western countries where a private citizen can request his/her court to provide him security for his past blunders, here Lankaweyan did not have any kind of insurance or roof over the head the international forces imposing on them. Evil refused to sign the Rome Accord to protect War Criminals, but they are unable to protect the citizens by any methods (because it is about money) they are collaborating with and partnering with them on the theft of peoples’ money. Throughout the Yahapalanaya period, Evil had complained about the treasury’s condition. Beyond commonsense, the treasury bankruptcy was insider info for the rulers. I asked you what proportion political leaders have invested in the government bonds, the business they are running, and how much they invested “outside of that bankrupt institution”, which are run by professional managers. You are only washing for Evil, but not publishing any real figures. Did you? If they want to put the pension fund money in government bonds, would they mind appointing the HNB managers (the true and honest money makers) to run the government also, and the Evil resign?

  • 0
    0

Evil many times tried to shrug off the Yahapalanaya government because it was not runnable. Common sense says never a government fails in one day. All those who have eyes and ears to read and hear news did know. What Baba Vanga said in 1948 or Buddha said 2500 ago. i.e., “Langkang will go Bankrupt in 2021 by the theft of internal politicians’ thefts. You are struggling to pretend that you didn’t know it. I excuse you from washing Evil, but very much deprives me of you unconsciously, by that same action, washing all 225 buffaloes in the parliament, that really pathetic of you, man! You are trying to tell the Sinhala Buddhist Modayas that “You don’t need Buddha anymore, my Evil boss, now on, will enlighten and redeem you all”. You sound like you are worse than the group that force feed with Biryani and Arrack the cattle herd to rear them on the sacrificial day at their altar. You want to restrict how we can take as our pension, but your bosses should be able to rob as much as they want and deposit in foreign banks. What makes you think that you have the moral authority or legal authority to decide how much we deserve as our pension? It should be based on our ability to freely invest it outside of Aanduwa.

I said that “poor and middle classes” have lost a huge load. I am not wasting my time, unlike you, going to the internal revenue office to check how much every citizen’s income is. You say the EPF managers also invested in high income shares. Why do you say that? Because they should not do that, but they must surrender all their money to Appe Aanduwa Thalikodies snatchers? Please be gracious enough to accept that the EFP managers must invest the EPF money only-only-only in high return, highly secure financial instruments. That is not a pleading or a request, but it is their duty. They failed on that duty so all must now see ICC under the UNHRC Resolution 50/1 for their high crime of swindling the government and peoples’ money. The law is there for compulsory saving because that class is notorious in saving for old age, so the government took responsibility to make them save for them. Now, anything that happens to peoples’ pensions and EPF money is a robbery… daylight robbery! This is the exact, classical metaphor of Fence Eating the Crops” . I do not have the media links, but so many times many MPs had warned, when they were flexing the laws to steal EFP money, stop games and it was too risky because it would kill millions’ old age savings.

You understand why no Langkang government agreed to collect the said $19B but touched on EPF. No MPs in parliament demand to bring back the stolen money. Why? Because if leaders are caught, then they too will be going to prison under Economic Crime. Old, you sell your properties and donate to Evil to play with it. But you have no authority to judge that 35% is enough after taking 50% out of it. Now the EFP people are losing their principle, but the people deposited at banks are fully safe. Could you show me your justification of EPF people losing their principal for a minor increase in return? (Remember the 35% is not paid out as take-home money for the EPFyers, but it was only a fake calculation by people like you. My earlier comment is about where did the government get the authority to play with people’s EPF or pension fund? This type of Evil dictatorship should stop on EPF because it was taken out of the daily pay of the people. It is people’s money; they need to calculate the inflation and decide how much they need to continue a decent life that is comparable to while they were working
