Doomed President & Presidency

By Ameer Ali

Dr. Ameer Ali

When J.R. Jayewardene succeeded getting his constitution for an executive presidency passed through the Parliament in 1978, the author of the previous constitution Dr. Colvin R. de Silva was reported to have asked JR one simple question: “What would happen if this Presidency falls into the hands of a mad man”? Thereafter, Colvin was also reported to have wished to be a minister just for a couple of weeks only to destroy that constitution. Today, that Presidency is not in the hands of a mad man but a monomaniac.

It did not start that way however, when President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was elected in 2019. Although he was chosen overwhelmingly by Sinhala Buddhists, he at once declared as a president for all communities bringing a sigh of relief among the minorities. He also shunned the pomp and pageant attached to his office and appeared in public as a simple man. He did not even don the national dress but appeared in a western suit to avoid being identified as an ultra-nationalist. Contrary to all parliamentary conventions, he took his oath of allegiance not in the precincts of the parliament and in front of the representatives, but in the surroundings of historic Ruwanwelisaya and in front of Buddhist prelates. He presented himself as a man of action and a president with a grand vision. All this won him kudos even from his critics.

But he complained that he was hamstringed by the 19th Amendment of the constitution, which restricted his powers and made difficult translating his vision into reality. One of the first tasks of the new government therefore was to bring in the 20th Amendment and got it passed through parliament with an element of subornation and gave GR what he wanted. It was from that time onward GR began to show who he really was. A parliamentary democracy was turned into a presidential autocracy and governance virtually turned into a one-man show. He militarized the country’s administration, picked his own team of advisors called Viyathmaga, endeared himself with the Sangha, instructed public officials that his circulars should be considered as orders, devalued the independence of judiciary, commandeered the Central Bank, warned the media of distorting what he said and did, took the economy under his control, with five of his family members in the cabinet controlling an estimated 75% of the national budget, and led the country for over two years along a mysterious “alternate way”, as described by one of his handpicked Central Bank Governors, in search of “prosperity and splendour”. It was all a mirage and ended in unmitigated disaster never experienced before in the history of Sri Lanka. Scarcity, poverty and despair marked the milestones in GR’s alternate way. People are dying while standing in queues to buy essentials. Starving families are leaving the country in search of food, and a ten-year old girl was mercilessly beaten and cut by sword for stealing something to feed herself and her family. Even kindness had charity had taken a back seat under this regime. Is this the discipline and virtuosity that the President promised govern his paradise? The country in short is facing an economic Armageddon.

With just over $2.1 billion in foreign reserves at the end of February this year, and a staggering $26 billion foreign debt to be paid before the end of 2023, GR seems to have realized finally that IMF assistance was unavoidable, but still refusing to calling it a bail out. IMF, according to one report, had bailed out Sri Lanka sixteen times before, but whether the seventeenth would be enough to get the battered and bankrupt economy back on its track is doubtful. Because the problem facing the country is not only economic but also geopolitical, ethno-religious, environmental, judicial and moral. It would be impossible for GR and his clan to continue in power and rule the nation like a family fiefdom. The situation demands a new approach. IMF cannot create a miracle and become a game changer. GR and the executive presidency are doomed. What was created for him must also end with him. How long would they last or how soon would they depart depends on how the people and opposition parties are going to react.

As Anura Kumara Dissanayake of JVP said in a public rally, there is no need for an election to bring down this regime. For example, it was not election that chased the Shah out of Iran and it was not election that brought down Ferdinand Marcos in Philippines. Instead, it was the immensity of people power coordinated by charismatic leaders that caused regime change. When coordinated mass rallies multiply even weapons of military fall silent. Masses are out on the streets already, but there is no charismatic leadership to coordinate that protest to pose challenge to the regime. This absence would not therefore bring about an uprising to topple the regime but anarchy which could be suppressed by the military. Anarchy is worse than tyranny, and the powers outside the country that are currently exerting pressure at the moment do not want anarchy to destabilize Sri Lanka. That may favour the regime. Opposition parties, are actually letting down the masses, because of their disunity and jostle to outmanoeuvre each other. None of them, except NPP and the 43-Brigade, has even a manifesto let alone a credible program to present before the people. It appears that these parties are waiting for the regime to complete its term in three years to fight another General Election. Are the masses prepared to endure the suffering until then?

The country is facing crisis of unimaginable proportion. It is a revolutionary situation.

Russia was in such a situation in 1917. Various factions were in competition to capture power and Bolsheviks under Lenin Captured power and the result was a communist regime for 75 long years.

Sri Lanka is different, only a western oriented right wing, neo liberal Indian backed faction with democracy and human rights could succeed in the present geo-political context.

It means an authoritarian government like that of Singapore of Lee Kuan Yew.

Interesting, but don’t be so dogmatic, srikrish.
      .
The Rajapaksa administration is extreme right wing, despite their assertions of being inspired by Marxism. Sure, they are not “neo-liberal”.
      .
I think that we should forget labels.
      .
      My choice remains the NPP.

The government can be “western oriented” , “right wing”, Indian backed or whatever. But it has to be competent first. It must have a plan, unlike the YouTube fantasies of organic agriculture that have brought the country to its knees. The country needs a leader who will do what is right, even if that doesn’t make him popular. Gota probably has no idea what exactly he’s doing. He simply blunders from one reversed gazette to the next.

          OC,
“The country needs a leader WHO WILL DO WHAT IS RIGHT, even if that doesn’t make him popular”
          Agreed in Toto!
Before that, to do that the Leader must have ability to assess and see, “WHAT IS RIGHT”!
If one can’t see and blocked vision by advisors, then it ‘KAPOTHI’!!

      1) How can thisever be possible, in a situation that our nation is already made eternally debtors to China ? Stupid leaders of RAJAPKASHES nature are caught by the chinese through their so called R & D projects. Now we are reaching the levels of Uganians, where whole lot of chinese high tech ghosts cities are there, with country s inflation rates drastically go up.
I think it is high time SRILANKENs to follow Ethiopia or the like countries – not just the Chinese, in today s context, lots of european companies invest in Ethiopia.

      2) Experts repeat – not even 30% of huge debts taken cheating our people are invested as promised. Meaning Rajapakshes have looted it to the core – with their planes and other assets being scattered around the globe (Belarus, Uganda, Kenya, Seachelles, US and … the like places as unsubstantiated reports cite as of today).

No need to wait that long, if any powerful body would respect what former auditor general suggested to the media today- we could easily learn the size of the loots.. and punish Rajapakshes and their henchmen, – in the same time, paving the way for a respectable govt.

You have to bear with me. At times I go cranky. That is exactly my present stage now. after reading, ‘But he complained that he was hamstringed by the 19th Amendment of the constitution’.
That stunt is very familiar to me!
I remember the President Mahinda assuring all of us that ‘he’ was shackled by LTTE, preventing him offering the Tamils their rights! You know how quickly he dumped that promise.
The Rajapaksas look for Dumpsters! The trash is disposable. …. Who are Tamils … ?
    .
Mahinda is the truck driver; not Gota. Gota is simply the ‘golaya’. Don’t forget.
    .
I doubt any euphoria of mass uprising in Sri Lanka. Their hunger recedes when they smell minorities!

      Nathan.

……….Mahinda is the truck driver; not Gota. Gota is simply the Golaya…………

I have come round to agree with your aforesaid line after yesterdays meeting of the TNA [ FP ] With the President[25th march].
R.Sampandan leader of the delegation took up the issue of Archaeological excavations undertaken in the North-East region.
Pat came the reply from Mahinda: This exercise, he told the TNA delegation was on an all-island basis and the inconvenience is also faced by people outside the North-East.
Before the Golaya thought to reply the truck driver silenced the TNA………

The TNA especially Sampanthan and Sumanthiran duo are very easily silenced or want to be silenced. Sampanthan could have asked where in the south are all these so-called archeological excavations taking place. Details and how many people’s land has been forcibly taken over for this. Other than Hindu and now Islamic and Christian places of worship being destroyed or converted to Buddhist, no Buddhist place of worship has been touched or converted to another religion, especially Hindu.

          2

Even prehistoric Kathirkakkam, the abode of Hindu Lord Murugan, down south has now become more a less a Buddhist place of worship and the Lord Murugan has more or less been displaced there too and Hindu Kathirkammam has become Sinhalese Buddhist Kataragama. I am sure if you excavate many ancient Buddhist sites down south, there will be definitely older Hindu Saivite relics, as after all Saivaism predated Buddhism on the island, why don’t the Sampanthan Sumanthiran, who is supposed to be a hotshot lawyer ever ask these questions. Instead of keeping mum. Vigenswaran would have asked this and would have shut Percy Mahinda’s mouth and shown him to be a fraud and racist, that in my opinion he really is. Just smiling and simpering and trying to fool everyone but very duplicitous and scheming.

These are just planted news to the very same manner, they usually did it then with NAMAL KUMARA- drama which could topple former govt (MS-Ranil) easily. Namal Kumara is said to be a number informant, but all what he fabricated in sl news are beyond investigation as of today…. this is a wonder land ruined by a criminal family for their own political whims and fancies. Buddhagama (which is not based on BUDDHADHRAMA) and fake adulation won by so called war victory, kept them above for today free fall.

Rajapakshes have proved it from the day one that they are talented at high crimes.
          :
Unfortunatly, standard ruling is out of their genetics. Look at the manner how brother duo-regime has ruined the economy as of today. It is believe, srilanka is on the top of the list of the country where the inflation is the highest.
          .
And they were champions to create such FAKE news, each time ahead of UNHR annual sessions. Sarath Weerasekara (current minister for police and internal affairs) was the mastermind of such attacks made on to Buddhist Statues, by hiring ” YELLOW PETS of the lowest level”. Remember ? Wandha Koththu ( Rottis that leading to intertility of men and women) was on the top of their election campaigns. These are the ordinances of RAJAPAKSHE led mlechcha political culture.
That man who was the key person to inflict riots on innocient Muslims in the aftermath of EASTER SUNDAY MASACCRE, Madhumadawa behaves today as if he is not physically existing. These men deserve to be ” raw burnt” for all various high crimes commited then. People stay as if they are turned into stones yet today…

Was not Siddharta Gautama, the Buddha, born as a Hindu, lived as a Hindu in meditation, and cremated as a Hindu. His ashes went into the river flowing into the sea. So why this major war about places of worship. The heart is the place of worship and not man built concrete edifices, trees, groves, waterways and many other areas.. God occupies the heart.

When you go for a meeting, you must be ready to meet any arguments. This is where TNA delegation is deficient. These people think that they know everything, and come a cropper.
Answer to Mahinda is : “Yes you could do archaeological surveys on all island basis, but we also must have the same right to do archaeological surveys on all island basis. Sinhala archaeologists are intellectually dishonest and will never embark on anything that will disprove Sinhala claims. There are several Hindu temples lying buried all over the island, which we want to unearth. There are several urn burial sites all over the island, which we want to unearth. We can give examples of how Sinhala archaeologists have covered up truth. Stone inscription in Tamil found in Tissamaharama by German archaeologist and handed over to Archaeology department has gone missing. Recently Raj Somadeva found two caves of Veddhas with Tamil Brahmi inscription and these have been covered up. We want to dig up ancient civilization around Mannar, and there are two sites in Settikulam and Giants Tank with evidence of Dravidian civilization. If you are not prepared to allow us to do archaeological surveys, then please stop your nonsense.” Instead of cornering Mahinda, they just sat and listened to deceptive talk.

There is a Hindu Kovil in every temple. We have provided accommodation for Hindu gods who in return shover their blessings on us. Intermediary Kapuva is using the official language Sinhala, Hindu gods seem to be quite comfortable with that.
Let’s not make a big drama out of this Temple Kovil issue.

            1. There is a Hindu Kovil in every temple.
            HYBRID TEMPLES/KOVILS!!
Why no provision for a Christian and Catholic Church, Mosque & Parsi worship temple too?
Why the unnecessary discrimination of other denominations???
Probably (my recollection is right) this HYBRID temple/Kovil projects started in earnest in latter part of 2010, which coincidentally the year and dateline of the commencement of unending “ill-advised and deplorable limitless borrowings from China” by then government of the ‘Egoistic Head of State, Head of Government and Head of Cabinet, on Commercial interest rates to finance projects with none or doubtful, Return on Investments (RoI)!!! There wasn’t any way to repay 36+ Billion Dollars of the debt as signed by then government, with the pre-existing War indebtness as at 2010???!
“WHEN GOD WANTS TO DESTROY AN EVIL INDIVIDUAL TO PROTECT HUMANITY THENHE MAKES THEM INSANE AND MAD”
Please read “Ramayana” as 1 example, or “Baghavat Geeta” as an alternative, which would give an insight to what is meant by this.
            2. We have provided accommodation for Hindu gods who in return shower their blessings on us.
Do you mean on Sri Lanka (SL) and the inhabitants??
            (Contd.)

            (Part II)
Were they abandoned or forcibly adopted conscripted, like those ‘to follow Buddhist teachings and become monks’?
The blessings seems to be in plenty!!
Indeed it is prominently displayed by the prolific shortages of Fuel, Cooking Gas & Kerosene, collapse of Agriculture, Rice production and unprecedented import of Rice and Milk Powder! Top of it all No Foreign exchange to pay for Import payments which is primary cause of the current situation!
            3. Intermediary Kapuva is using the OFFICIAL LANGUAGE SINHALA, Hindu gods seem to be quite comfortable with that!
You seem to be ‘conveniently forgetting’ (CF) – as always being the inert ability of “highly intelligent inhabitants” (refer Robert Knox, further details) to CF, the existing constitutional provisions, the 2 Official languages of SL – Sinhala and Tamil and the 3rd, the link language, English. Who is convoluting the constitutional provisions of SL, which should not be even attempted in the name of GOD and/or RELIGION! Is it not a ‘TREASONOUS’ act??
Why not instead, Kapuvas’ are made multi linguistic, conform to Constitution of SL!!
If not, why have a constitution? Primary Law?
Let the “Law of the Jungle” prevail! That of the ‘Sinhaya’ (‘Lion King of the Jungle’)

            (Part III)
            4. Let’s not make a big drama out of this Temple Kovil issue
Who is making it a big issue by altering the prevailing/current position?
Demolishing existing institutions and converting the structures as you say to accommodate “HYBRID” Temples.
Whose mad idea is this and also as explained above, falls short of not recognising other religions and denominations, prolific in SL
My Grand final question is this the work of a ‘Master Mind’ (MM) like that of Stalinist thought of eliminating religious belief in SL as it is the ‘OPIUM’ of the masses??
The culmination of the “Easter bombings” by purported then MM – ‘Sonic Sonic’ only benefitted 6.9 million Sri Lankans to usurp power from then existing government providing, inhabitants prolifically, essential and non-essential items without queues and stock ‘run-outs’ at reasonable prices, to replace with the Governance of shortages and hardships of waiting in queues for food, fuel, Power shortages and essentials!
Another “Karmic effect of God making those to be destroyed go MAD AND CRAZY” before their DEMISE!!
Not an idealistic position to envision.
However, that’s what History is replete with, though as humans we are averse to entertain, such outcomes, generally optimistically minded personae!!

          • 2
            1

Yes only make big drama and use fake archeology and the power of the state and occupying armed forces, to convert ancient Saivite temples, in the Thamizh north and east, that predate Buddhism into Buddhist temples. What about Kathirkammam, an ancient prehistoric Hindu site, one of the abodes of Lord Murugan, now converted to a Buddhist site and Lord Murugan has been made more or less homeless, here. What about in Trincomalee where Chingkalla Buddhist fascists now claiming an ancient Hindu site, as Buddhist again with fake archeology, slapped the Hindu Brahmin priest and then threw Lord Ganesha’s or Pillaiyar’s idol into the sea” chanting Ganapathy deviyo nana giya” meaning Lord Ganesha has gone to take a bath in Chingkallam. What an insult and crime. Eezham Thamizhs feel insulted and affronted that our Brahmin priests are being deliberately being manhandled and injured by Chingkalla thugs, armed forces, and police. A deliberate attempt to humiliate us. Chingkallams may be used to Buddhist monks slapping each other and misbehaving, we do not and moreover, we do not disrespect other religions including the Hindu religion that Lord Buddha practiced by throwing their gods and idols into the sea and chanting disrespecting slogans.

            • 2
              1

What is the point of keeping Hindu god’s idols in Buddhist places of worship down south and asking for these god’s blessings, and then destroying the same god’s idols and temples dedicated to them in the Thamizh north and east in the name of Buddhism and Hindu Lord Buddha? Dr. Ganshalingam did not mean Hindu god’s idols recently installed in Buddhist temples but ancient prehistoric Saivite Hindu temple ruins, over which many ancient Buddhist temples were built, or many ancient Saivite temples converted to Buddhist places of worship when the population down south converted to Buddhism. You knew what he meant but as usual, diabolically trying to twist the truth and misrepresent.

This economic crisis is 73 years overdue.

If we come out of this mess …….. even in another 10 years ………… independence would mean something.

Sri Lanka’s problems are not economic but mental.

Only a few ……. who don’t suffer from the mental disease …….. will have even a remote chance of recognizing the problem.

The problem is so deeply ingrained in the collective national psyche.

Why do these representatives and governments need 2/3rd majority, unless they are “cunning and want to adventure on to unethical” means to aggrandisement?
Simple majority should suffice with + 10 or 15 members, if the thoughts of the government is MERITORIOUS, sure the opposition would support the government’s request to provide ‘supply and support’!!
Unless the opposition too are a bunch of illiterate idiots (May be the case in SL), who knows, then we are doomed!!

Not an outright admirer of RP, however, the devil must be given its due for the 3C’s and debater!!
He passed lot of legislative enactment in Parliament in his term of office.
People before voting must question themselves to obviate such foolish outcomes. Kakas are in play!!
None asked the question and no answers provided!! Dual citizenship eligibility smuggled in for Crows!! What a venture to elect a government to say Kakas will hit plane and destroy RR engine?? Not a word about the plane load of passengers and their plight?? Mere numbers? Like Budget 2022?

How very true and if I remember at Kataragama the note with the Mal Wattiya in 1959-60 of SL Rs 10.00 has climbed to SL Rs. 5000.00 per instance!!
          Depreciation of the SL Rs. 1960 to 2022 – 3.25 to 300.00!!
Say almost (ease of calculation) 100 times (92.31 times to be exact) in that period (Max)
The Kataragama Dewale fee in that period has climbed from SL Rs. 10 to 5000, which 500 Times!!
That’s very steep and not keeping with the trend of the ‘purchasing power’ of the SL Rs.
Is his because the installed Kapuva is using the ‘Official Sinhala Language’ of the majority, for chanting the Vedic??
Earlier, it was recited in Tamil (although an Official language now), which was cheaper because it was attributable to minorities??
Or, is it the cost attributable for translation costs???
Translation costs from Minority to Majority language is expensive indeed!!!
Or is it hereditary tendency to charge more, even take additional 25 to 30% commission???
No, None at all!! There are no Commission ‘Kakas’ Crowing, “Rubbish Dumps ahead Ho” alerts, in Kataragama. So all Clear and Fair!!
God Kataragama would only be exclusively ’Privy’ to that confidential information.

“They LTTE were far superior in their economic management of the then liberated tamil areas despite sanctions of the barbaric sinhal government than compared to sinhal governments”

      Is that so?
      If you say so.

This is a fool the Sinhala Buddhist elected who believes his own crap. Today he is stripped naked and the world is laughing at him. But he does not realize that he has no clothes. He is still trying to talk away from the mess he created. There is a reason for education and this fool has non.

“IMF, according to one report, had bailed out Sri Lanka sixteen times before, but whether the seventeenth would be enough to get the battered and bankrupt economy back on its track is doubtful.”

For sure, 17 is a lucky number.

When it comes to Lanka, I’ve recently started to believe in the occult and soothsayers, fortune tellers, crystal gazers, clairvoyants, psychics, spiritualists, mediums ………..

Although I am not a supporter of Ranil I suspect he has found his b***s, has the courage to openly challenge the racists.
          Brilliant.
When will Wimal & co going to evict him from Sri Lanka?

Recently both Wimal and Udaya promised to liberate the country.
I am still awaiting for them to tell us whom or what are they going to liberate.

Why Sanghaa are keeping deafening silence?

Some Tamils say Prabaharan was increasingly disoriented as the country reached near the end of the war. Gota too look disoriented in public. Is he a good actor?

            Native,

This crisis is not going to end soon ……. it’ll take a couple of years ……. by then people would’ve learned a good lesson.

The Tamils have had their demands for a long time: they have not put a new set of demands during the crisis.

All Sinhalese governments have paid only lip service to reasonable Tamil demands without ever having the intension to solve any.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in Tamils asking for their demands ……. if the shoe was on the other foot the Sinhalese would’ve done the same ………

Yes, these fake media pundits are mostly responsible for misleading the masses about Diaspora “threats”. Ranil did give this particular guy a stunning response. There are others like Chamuditha with the same backward narrative.
But even Ranil has to say nice things about the idiots in the Sangha. What a tragedy.
So , do you think Sajith would do this in public?

“So , do you think Sajith would do this in public?”

              A categorical no.
Near the next elections he would promise to build 2,200 Vihares in the North East, at the last elections it was 1,100. While being the Housing Minister last time he announced almost 150 Vihares had been closed because they couldn’t find monks who can run those establishment, lack of funds and other amenities.

He still trust in tried and failed Sinhala/Buddhism.

Is there anyone with balls (like Chandrika in the early 1990s) who can challenge Sinhala/Buddhism head on? Tamil(/Saivite) nationalism is no longer a portent force.

I understand as usual the Tamil Diaspora is divided into as many parties/clubs/…. as the number of Tamil total number of population. The second generation is not interested in their parents’ narrow politics.

Gota should withdraw his High Commissioner to UK who made a lot of fuss when Guardian News paper mentioned Eelam being Sri Lanka’s another name. The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Germany wanted entire Tamil Diaspora children population to be kept under total surveillance.

If Gota is serious about the island’s fate he has to withdraw functionaries who went beyond their call of duty in order to please their boss, bigots, racists, ….

I saw this too and the Ada Derana 360 Utube clip of nearly 1 hour.
Not only he has regained, whatever was absent earlier, he was veyr confident and was able to elucidate in Sinhala (not English as usual), the issues at hand and possible solutions of the Economic Crisis!!
I suggest, that you see that, if you have the time.
Not a fan of RW of late.

GR is a doomed president because the life of Sinhalese people have gone downhill. The living conditions have become unbearable with no sign of light at the end of the tunnel. At this point he had a meeting with the TNA. How a meeting with a weak president will improve the oppressive living conditions of Tamil people is a moot point. No sooner than the meeting was announced extremist politicians have commenced their anti Tamil tirade to gain political milage. TNA must wait and see whether Sinhalese people will behave in the usual manner and scuttle any agreement to improve the oppressive situation. TNA should not give any false promise to Tamil people and should not allow the GR regime to use them as pawns

It sickens me how the freemason journalists, didnt utter a word about the fake pandemic, being a major cause of the economic crisis. They were all rambling on about the ‘need to lock everything down’, regardless of how many people lost their jobs, incomes etc and went in destitution.
But now all of a sudden these satanists, are pretending to be so concerned about the common man, and blaming it all on the Rajapaksa family.
Rajapaksas are freemasons (like all the other Lankan political leaders) and they follow the script given to them. We are not all fooled by these scapegoat tactics. The entire system needs to be overhauled. For that all freemasons need to be identified and thrown out of all positions of power.

        SM,
When you extrapolate the number of absolute nutters on this forum into the general population, is it possible that the number of nutters in the country is around 10%?

Did you include the following in your Guesstimate:

Wimal, Udaya, Vasu, Dinesh, Kamala, Doughy, Sivajilingam, Mavai, Channa, Elle, Gnana, Eagle, Nalin, Asgiria, ………………………….

          Actually estimated nutters = 6.9 X 100/22.16 = 31.14%
This is only a conservative estimate.

The french revolution made France a Republic & today, France is a prosperous country with a President in charge. SL is already a Republic with a more powerful President who is even above the law. However, it is now the time for a revolution in SL, French style, most importantly, guillotining all politicians responsible, just as the French did to its aristocrats. I am against capital punishment in principal but in this case, it is an exception. The blood & the misery of millions of people cannot be pardoned.

Where are you who continuously remark that ceylon tamisl should go to Hindustan and now your kelptocractic Rajapakses have gone to Hindustan with the buddha’s begging bowl and got just this year $2.4billion USD!!! in aid and finance.

Have some decency EE object to this shameful begging..

It seems that them beggar sinhalas are queing up to get out of the beggar sinhala country that they created by periodically raping killing looting and burning tamils and their tamil properties. Watch it Karma as very unlikely that the countries that they are going to are going to treat them other than how they have treated tamils in the periodic pogroms

No one foresaw such a situation – that the extraordinary incompetence of the elected leaders needed for them to be kicked out after only 2 years. Moreover, it has to be done outside constitution! India may have to step in. First ensure that the people get their basic needs, food, fuel and medicines. Secondly, frame a constitution removing all the accumulated undesirable aspects of the present mess. Organize a fair election and and allow the victors to take over.’

There is a controversy surrounding Got’s dual citizenship surfaced in the last few days.
Did Mahinda Deshapriya or any other election commissioners demand to see document relating to cancellation of Gota’s American citizenship (just before the elections)?

I thought you were closely monitoring Gota’s dilemma.
What were you doing at that crucial time?
    Any Chinese bribe?
