Emerging Scenarios, Possible Outcomes And The Tasks Of The People

Surendra Ajit Rupasinghe

As you know, the Geneva sessions will open on the 27th February. A possible, and most probable outcome would be a resolution calling for an independent international mechanism to investigate war crimes. (Appointing a Court of Inquiry under the Army Commander will provide more ammunition for the foreign powers to denounce the credibility of the Regime. It is a joke anyway! It will not hold!). While I have steadfastly stood for accountability, I have also resisted foreign predator powers from exploiting this issue to advance their strategic agendas. Some may feel that in the absence of any other means of seeking truth and justice, such a resolution should be supported. On the grounds of truth and justice, this position has validity. Whatever the case, we would do well to consider the possible outcomes of the emerging scenario and decide upon our responsibilities and tasks as the people of Lanka.

Such a resolution will plunge this country into the most profound crisis ever, as society gets irrevocably polarized. The Regime may use the opportunity to raise the banner of ‘anti-imperialism and patriotism’ and enforce it under an even more straight-jacketed militarist-chauvinist dictatorship. This may have   with the blessings of the powers that are supporting the Regime- ala China, Russia, Iran, Myanmar  and others. In such a scenario, inter-imperialist rivalry  will intensify and drag the country into a veritable chess board of global contention. The emerging conjuncture is bound to polarize society, where the extreme militarist-chauvinist , mafia-fascist forces may gain an iron hegemony over society. This is a most serious possibility that will be so consequential for the future of freedom and democracy for decades to come.

Appointing a Court of Inquiry under the Army Commander will provide more ammunition for the foreign powers to denounce the credibility of the Regime. It is a joke anyway!

Along with the looming political crisis, whatever the antiseptically suave, economically  illiterate and deliberately manipulative  Ajith Nivard Cabral has to say, there is a financial crisis of massive proportions intensifying. As any schoolboy would know,  spending colossal sums of money on the most unproductive mega-projects and the equally colossal losses incurred in trillions of the tax payers money, such as with Mihin Air, Sports Stadiums, Hambantota Port, Uma Oya etc, combined with trillions wasted on foreign tamashas and victory parades-  all designed not on criteria of economic feasibility but on glorifying and perpetuating the emperor and the ruling dynasty – have now accumulated into a state of bankruptcy of the State. The Government cannot even deliver the farmers pension funds nor maintain Samurdhi benefits, nor meet the demands for wage and salary increases of the workers and university lecturers. This is in the context of jacking up the price of fuel and thereby escalating the cost of living to even more unbearable heights, including electricity tariffs. This when social infrastructure such as public health and education is left to rot.

So, we may face a scenario where a political crisis combines with an economic-financial crisis that will strain the Regime and the system to the outer limit. Once again, battle lines will be drawn and the masses made to decide on which side of the barricade they stand. However, unlike in the past, the battle lines will be contested. Already, the vapor of the Dutugamunu cult is evaporating as the masses are no longer prepared to undergo intolerable burdens for the sake of a Regime reeking with abuse and corruption. The mood of the masses is clearly shifting. The Sinhala chauvinist base that the Regime relied on, including broad Sinhala masses, the armed forces, the Sinhala mudalali compradors, the middle classes will be confronted with an engulfing economic crisis, and they may seek an alternative. Whether the UNP can ride this wave of discontent is yet to be seen, but it can pose a formidable threat to the Regime, if it gets its house in order- and this is not beyond the pale of possibility. It is a question of whether Ranil has the spine, but he may discover his spine in conjunction with the injection of foreign powers who have an agenda for regime change. Sensing the pulse, the JVP, the DNF and the TNA are gravitating towards the  Platform of the UNP. The demand for the release of Sarath Fonseka will be a powerful rallying point for these forces that may serve to draw dividing lines among broad sections of the population, including within the armed forces. In this option, the UPFA will be strained, but may hold, since they cannot afford to lose State power, loose the perks, privileges and fat commissions, nor can they afford to face the wrath of the masses.

It is for these very reasons that I argue that the Regime may have no other option in overcoming both the political and economic-financial crisis, but to resort to intensifying dictatorship and terror. This regime of naked fascist terror could be unleashed through a massive wave of repression directed against all opposition, particularly targeting the People’s Struggle Movement and the Inter University Student Federation and the LEFT forces who have joined together to from a Center of Mass Resistance, whom the Regime has already demonized as ‘Terrorists’,  to be in cahoots with the Tamil Diaspora and the Western Imperialist powers. This repression will pave the way for advancing the neo-liberal agenda without any formidable opposition, particularly on the education front. This scenario will also provide the ground to do away with a political solution and the LLRC Report, which are troublesome guardian knots for the Regime. The 13th Amendment, let alone plus or minus, will be thrown into the dust bin, along with the LLRC report.

Massive and bloody  repression is an inherent  characteristic of the modern Feudal-Colonial/ Comprador-Capitalist  State rigged up by the British and handed over to their local counterparts. It has drowned  two Sinhala youth insurrections in the South in rivers of blood, accounting for some 100,000 lives and as alleged,  some 70,000 Tamil civilians in the North in suppressing the separatist insurgency. These blood baths have been accompanied with unspeakable brutality and barbarism. This time around the stakes are even higher and far more decisive as a Regime rotting at its  core strangulates itself from within its own insuperable violent contradictions.

This is a most momentous historic conjuncture that will decide our future for many decades to come. The way forwards towards an era of democracy, freedom and prosperity is the path of mass resistance, the path where the workers, peasants, students, youth, university lecturers and all  oppressed classes, nationalities and communities forge their unity behind a minimum transitional program that would sweep away the era of dictatorship and tyranny and convene a People’s Constituent Assembly to form a new form of a People’s Democratic State, designed, owned and governed by the people, based on sharing the Earth and this Land as members of an integral and  indivisible human community.

Rally behind the Movement for Freedom and Democracy and the Center for Mass Resistance in the making;

*The writer is Secretary: Ceylon Communist Party ( Maoist).

I do not think this Government needs any advice from loser wannabe Communists… They did not need you advice to liberate the Tamil people from the cluthes of the LTTE nor have they needed any advice since S.A. Wickremasinghe and Pieter Keuneman held fort in the post war pro- communist period. Cuba, China and Russia have taken routes away from Stalin’s form of Communist “Fascism”…. The moment now is for you and your friends the JVP to gpo out and ask the people why you have not been returned to power even when you helped Chandrika and her mother win their own. The LSSP is no more Vasudeva has changed his communist underwear so what is stopping you folk from going out and looking for a proper job instead of making fools of yourselves sharing you political dinners with outrageous capitalists like Ranil Wickremasinghe. Go over and get some advice from Bala Tampoe a man who matters!

In general i agree with Surendra’s post.It is a fact that the present administration is full of corruption and is playing into the hands of foreign imperialists. As for alternatives it is foolish to assume that the UNP will be able to challenge the government. The UNP is just going through the motions. It’s leader is fleecing the gullible party supporters on the pretext of repairing Srikotha. He is quite content in being the leader of opposition for life other than coming out with various scams from time to time. It’s true that the future doesn’t look good for Srilankans. At the end of his post Surendra comes out with his own suggestions. He request all of us to rally behind Movement for Freedom and Democracy and the Center for Mass Resistance. What the hell are these two outfits?Do they really exist or is it some sort of imagination?Or are these some sort of NGOs like the outfits operated by the likes of Pakyasothi,Sunanda Deshapriya etc?Who are it’s leaders?Or is it headless?Do they have any offices in Colombo? Please enlighten me.Surendra also mentions about a People’s Struggle Movement. Is he referring to that outfit operated by faceless Kumar Mahathaya? Please educate me.He also mentions about IUSF. IUSF members makes noises only when they are in the University. It is not a people’s movement but a selfish movement.Surendra identify himself as the secretary of the Communist party(Maoist). What is this outfit? Is it something got to do with Maoists in Nepal?I am asking because i don’t know.As far as i know, Maoists are extinct in China. He also refers to left forces. Is he referring to those leftists who ended up clinging on to Sirmavo’s and Chandrika’s” Saree Pota”and most recently Mahinda’s “Satakaya”?Please correct me if i am wrong, are these struggle Movement outfits fishing in troubled waters? In that case no problem because there are plenty of suckers to swallow the “Struggle Movement”baits!

The Ceylon Communist Party ( Maoist) is one of the longest standing parties in Sri Lanka, with its origins going back to 1942. It broke away from the Keuneman/Wickremasinghe faction in 1964 when it sided with Mao and the Chinese Communist Party over the Sino-Soviet split. Com. Sanmugathasan became its leader and led the party untill 1989, when he left for London for health reasons. He died serving the cause of Communism. He held a special congress where I was made Secretary entrusted to reorganise the party and rectify its political line based on the scientific foundations of Maoism, which is the highest concentration and cyrstalisation of the science of Marxism-Leninism. Yes, we are linked to the Maoists internationally and support the Maoist armed struggle in India focused on liberating the tribal homelands from the clutches of multinational corporations which are raping and pillaging the land. Indeed, the Maoists have been declared to the single greatest internal threat to the Indian State, and we are proud of this achievement. The People’s Struggle Movement is one of most significant developments where it is breaking with the past politics of class collaboration and chauvinism of the JVP.
We are fishing in troubled waters, seeking for an opportunity to liberate the people and the country from the clutches of a militarist-chauvinist dynastic dictatorship that has defiled us all in the eyes of the world and wreacked havoc, ruin and destruction. Thanks for your interest. Hope it satisfies your curiosity.

In general i agree with Surendra. The present administration is so corrupted that it is playing in to the hands of foreign imperialists. As far as the UNP is concerned,it’s a lost cause. It is just going through the motions. It;s leader is going around the country fleecing the unsuspecting gullible party supporters on the pretext of repairing Srikotha .Ranil is quite content of being opposition leader for life other than his various scams from time to time.I agree with Surendra that it’s hard times ahead for Srilanka. Surendra comes out with his own solutions and wants us to rally around his outfit.Fine! But i need a bit of clarifications.First, what are these outfits “Movement for Freedom and Democracy” and “center for Mass Resistance”?Is it some kind of outfit along the lines of Pakyasothi’s,Sunanda Dehapriya’s NGOs?Is it real or just pure imagination?Do they maintain any offices in Colombo? Please enlighten me.Then he refers to Peoples’ Struggle Movement. Is it one that is operated by faceless Kumar Mahathaya? As far as IUSF is concerned it’s members struggle only when in University. It can be best described as a selfish movement than a people’s movement.Surendra identifies himself as secretary of the Communist party(Maoists). What the hell is this?Is it something got to do with Maos in Nepal?Maos are extinct in China? Please educate me.Then Surendra talks about left forces. The left forces that i know of are those who clung on to Sirimavo’s and Chandrika’s “Sari Pota” and most recently to Mahinda’s “Satakaya”.I hope that Surendra will educate me.Please correct me if i am wrong,my feeling is that Surendra is fishing in troubled waters. In that case he is lucky because there are suckers in abundance who swallow the bait of “Peoples Struggle Movements”.

PETER CASIE CHETTY, Here comes this perverted rotten stenching package again! This [Edited out]is a real posterior sniffer and licker of the failed Rajapakshas. This empty moron refuses any advice and claims freeing Tamils from “clutches of LTTE” which clause these morons send on prostitution to cover up their impotency. Where the hell did you free Tamils? Where on earth trapping 300000 odd people in a narrow strip of land so called “no fire zone” and then shelling, carpet bombing, heavy artillery firing into it and slaughtering a populace becomes saving Tamils? This is a proven fact with ample evidence including satellite imagery which is why UN is after this regime claiming war crimes. Let alone freeing Tamils this despot regime has spread its cancerous filthy regime into every nook and corner of the whole country and infecting everyone be it Tamil, Sinhala, Muslim or other nationalities. This [Edited out] is a carrier of this Rajapaksha gangrene cancer who must be cauterized to prevent spread of the Rajapaksha putrefaction.

As for Max Silva he is a HIV type virus because he goes on hitting everything on the path and specially tries to undermine the immune system of the democracy which is the opposition party. One of Rajapakshas primary tactics is to undermine, disintegrate and destroy all the opposition political parties in the country which he has successfully achieved so far with the help of these traitors of the nation like Hettiyas and Silvas. However he has not been completely successful in destroying the UNP where he only managed to take a splinter out of it. Personally Rajapakshas number one fear is Fonseka, but their failed government’s number one fear is Ranil because Ranil has the vision capacity maturity and overall acceptance both locally and internationally to move this country out of this politico-economic quagmire created by Rajapakshas with the ill-fated fusion of traitors of nation like Hettiyas and blunderers like Silvas.

I can understand Chandimal’s anger.Don’t blame him.No doubt that this guy is a die hard Ranil fan..That is his right.I understand the frustration of being in the opposition for nearly 20 years and without any hopes in the sight.Take a leaf out of Ranil.Unlike Chandimal,Ranil is having a jolly good time.He doesn’t go into hysterics as chandimal.Instead he enjoys being the opposition leader for life or shall i call him our vice president?.Who destroys the opposition?Leave me out of it,please.Just one phone call to Rajapakse and Ranil gets his own party supporters in the caliber of Shiral,Maithree locked up in the dog house.A very powerful leader of the opposition. He even utters about banning Sirasa. He wants all of us to watch ITN and Rupavahini.Rajapakse doesn’t need any friends when he as enemies such as Ranil. As for HIV comment,Ranil would be in a better position to know about it.There’s no doubt that Ranil is Mahinda’s long lost brother. It’s not only Mahinda but Ranil also fears Fonseka.Ranil made Fonseka the sacrifice goat.Chandimal goes on to say about Ranils vision capacity and his overall acceptance both locally and internationally.Ranil is being accepted locally, that’s why he is welcomed by his own supporters with a grand hooting anthem whenever he visits them in his Srikotha money collecting scam.Yes he was the darling of the international community during the treacherous CFA.But now even Solheim wouldn’t touch Ranil even with a barge pole.Ranil is a born looser,my friend. Chandimal why don’t you ask Karu or Sajith about Ranil’s vision?

Thanks Surendra for educating me in a gentlemanly manner.Just one more question,Is faceless Kumar Mahathaya your leader or at least one of those leading guys in your outfit?

What outfit? I am not a member of the Peoples’ Struggle Movement. I dont know of, and I could care less about some Kumar Mahattaya. Try some place else for information. I am the Secretary of the Ceylon Communist Party ( Maoist) You should have gathered this fact, if you had studied the communications carefully. I just think that the PSM is an important new Left political formation in a process of transition. We are trying to build up a mass resistance front based on a common minimum program for democratic change.

If this proposed “Movement for Freedom and Democracy and the Center for Mass Resistance” is genuinely interested in the welfare of the nation, they should organise themselves to resist foreign involvements in SriLankan affairs instead of trying to make things difficult for a regime that very recently restored for the people the right to go through their daily affairs without having to fear terrorist bombs, shootings, child abductions etc, especially for those Tamils in the North who bore the brunt of it under LTTE terrorists.
I hope people like Surendra Rupasinghe, who today is amongst the millions of SriLankans enjoying the rewards of eliminating terrorists by Sri Lankan leaders (JVP terrorist leadership by Premadasa and LTTE terrorist leadership within the country by Rajapakse), will refrain from carelessly helping unwelcome foreign forces and any foreign funded NGO in SriLanka trying to destabilise the Government to instal a regime of their choice.

OK Ok,Surendra. If what you say is true, then i am with you(views). But we don’t need foreigners to sort out our problems. So instead of wasting our time, why don’t we start from the basics?Such as no more Rs25 buffet for MPs,no pensions,no duty free permits?A smaller cabinet. These are basic things.Later on we can talk about struggles, political solutions etc.

Let me add a bit to Raja’s reply.Any Johnny wants to struggle here, let’s start with struggling in front of the Norwegian embassy.Surendra are you prepared?Of course you are not! Why?Money and visas. Most of these supposed to be communists take solace in the US and Europe. Not China or Russsia. Why?Your guess is good as mine.Fun and $$$.

Max Silva it seems is a max-imum loser. He smacks of having lost his faith in his last political shrine of worship which he resorted for inspiration having tried many other political escapes. That is why he seems very keen in Surendra’s MFD & CMR where he hopes to stage his country saving great political revolutions like “no more Rs25 buffet for MPs,no pensions,no duty free permits?A smaller cabinet” etc. His great political wisdom embraces such national pride moves as “we don’t need foreigners to sort out our problems” whereas in reality Sri Lanka cannot survive one week without foreigners. He desperately needs an “outfit” to implement these unique, home grown and our very own solutions for our Sri Lankan problems and I request someone please give him one!

This “Max” fellow must either be a Sajith faction acolyte, an agent from the regime itself trying to deviate international intervention or a real loser looking for a political party that suits him to lean against. Either way these people are the real obstacles of the nation because they always try to obscure the perception of national issues by their idiosyncratic limited poor and tribal outlook.

This loser tries to portray the writer as a diehard Ranil fan which I deny. What this country needs today is restoration of democracy, law and order, implementation of the measures enshrined in the constitution and giving effect to the process of accountability. From among the various political actors of the present day who is best qualified, trustworthy both locally and more importantly internationally-this Max with scant outlook but full of stupid arrogance tries to live by “local universe” yet he may be dependent on alien devil’s survival pill-to form a democratic government? Do not catch diphtheria, tetanus or some other disease but answer this question. Do you think your traitors like Sajith or Karu or other stone-thrower defectors can create a government? Can JVP do it or do you have any alternative person? Answer my question!

By saying Ranil is the most suitable and qualified person to form a government I do not mean he is going to single-handedly rule the country as the Rajapaksha family does but rather he is acceptable to the widest reach in the country from Tamils, Muslims, Sinhalese to international players like Tamilnadu, India, US, Iran, Russia or even to the very defectors within the party like Sajith etc. However if Sajith takes leadership which would never happen he will create a irredeemable rift in the party because he has been a pathetic hate monger like his father both of whom are more megalomaniac than Rajapakshas themselves and hell bent on self-aggrandization.

This Max loser is taking advice from Karu and Sajith which is why he harbors these moronic ideas as treacherous CFA, one telephone call to Mahinda locking up his friends Shiral and Maithree and all the bla bla in his response to my earlier comment. You know imbeciles like Max cannot digest great political games like CFA because of which Sri Lanka Army was mandated to wage the war against LTTE. Everyone knows the media whore Sirasa engages in prostitution for Sajith and Max etc. A country does not need media whores though they are loved by Max and his supporters. In a country where hooting anthem is worshiped as a religion by losers like Sajith and Max we have to work hard to expose losers like Max and to project the real politicians like Ranil in the limelight since the independence of media has been compromised by the despot.
