FUTA Condemns Appointing Deshabandu Tennakoon As New IGP

The Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) vehemently condemns the recent appointment of Mr. Deshabandu Tennakoon as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Sri Lanka. This appointment not only disregards due process but also raises grave concerns regarding the independence and integrity of law enforcement in the country.

Moreover, the newly appointed IGP has a troubling history that casts serious doubts on his suitability to lead the Sri Lankan Police Force. In a Fundamental Rights application case decided by the Supreme Court in 2023, he was found guilty of torturing a suspect, a gross violation of human rights and a clear indicator of his unsuitability for such a pivotal role.

Furthermore, it is public knowledge that he infamously collaborated with government-affiliated mobs during the violent attack on the Galle Face Green protest site in May 2022. His later appointment as the acting IGP despite objections raised by various civil society organizations, and now appointing him as the IGP underscores a disturbing trend of collusion between law enforcement officials and political authorities.

Thus, we consider the appointment of the new IGP as a clear indication of the deep politicization of the police service in Sri Lanka. Instead of upholding the principles of independence, impartiality, and accountability, the government has chosen to prioritize political interests over the well-being and safety of its citizens. This further undermines public confidence in the ability of law enforcement agencies to serve and protect the people of Sri Lanka without fear or favor.

FUTA calls on the Sri Lankan government to immediately revoke the appointment of Mr. Tennakoon and to ensure that future appointments to key positions within law enforcement agencies are made in accordance with established constitutional procedures and merit-based criteria. The government must uphold the rule of law, protect human rights, and foster an environment of accountability within law enforcement agencies to restore public trust and confidence in the justice system.

      Where are you?
Under Government Of The Sinhalese, By The Sinhalese & For The Sinhalese
      you have typed the following:

“GG Ponnambalam initially rejected SWRD’s offer of federalism”

Another of your old wives tale, isn’t it?

“SJV Chelvanayakem signed the “Vaddukoddai Resolution”, which is a declaration of secession using arms if necessary”

The resolution was passed at three party conference.
Where did you get the idea S J V Chelva signed it?
Have you got a copy of the resolution?

” Velupillai Prabhakaran assassinated the top TULF leadership to seize power for himself”

By the time Hindians started grooming him and Premadasa adapted him TULF had already lost all its credibility among Tamils, if they had any. The party and its leaders were politically dead, by the time Amirthalingam was assassinated (with the support of Sri Lankan intelligence).

It would be good to remember the Vaddukottai Declaration was dead on arrival on 14 May 1976 in Pannakam.

” The LTTE rejected India’s offer for federalism, choosing instead to assassinate Rajiv Gandhi”

      Hindia never offered federalism.

        you have typed the following:

“Premadasa (former SL President) attempted to negotiate with the LTTE.”

Premadasa did not understand VP could be hired for a price and he never negotiated serious politics with LTTE, at the same time some UNP ministers started expressing their desire to get rid of him.

“CBK had plans for devolution. The LTTE attempted to assassinate her. The lawyer Neelan who drew up the constitutional proposals was assassinated”

By the time Neelan was assassinated the draft constitution ended up in tatters, even Ranil in the parliament compound ritually cremated it.

” Prabhakaran had plans to execute commander Karuna, which caused a schism in the ranks when the latter defected”

        Did it surprise you?

“There were attempts to assassinate Mahinda Rajapakse and his brother Gothabaya”

There was a failed attempt to assassinate Gota but VP never attempted to kill Mahinda

Please spend some time reading and researching whenever you get the urge to type.

Native, what the hell is going on among war heroes ??? Looks like road to “in fighting “. Kamala and Shavendra are now the villains according to Gotha , in his tell all memoir. He further says ego clash between them is detrimental to national security. Add Sarath and the rest to understand war crimes, and who could have given orders to kill those who surrendered. That also explains the security breakdown behind Easter mayhem. What does new chief Ranil thinks about them ?? Gotha further alleged those two were working against each other leading to his down fall. Good lord, I was wrong in saying “Tamils do not need enemies “. Sorry to break the bubble of our due here.

Ponnambalam and his ACTC denounced federalism as ‘bad for Ceylon and worse for the Tamils’, and at the general election of 1952 some of his ACTC followers warned that under federalism no trains would run beyond Elephant Pass (the isthmus connecting the Jaffna peninsula to the rest of the island).” (p. 63, S. J. V. Chelvanayakam and the Crisis of Sri Lankan Tamil Nationalism, 1947 – 1977, A Political Biography, A. Jeyaratnam Wilson, Lake House Bookshop, 1993).

It was the resolution of National Convention of the TAMIL UNITED LIBERATION FRONT and his signature was nowhere to be seen. Like you some stupid supporters of Federal Party believe it was their resolution.

          “So why assassinate him,……”

I have no idea what was in his head at the time of Neelan’s assassination. Could you tell us why Lasantha and many others were assassinated, massacred or killed. Even the assassin wouldn’t know as he was only carrying orders.

The above Hindustan Times spin was published on Jun 13, 2009, immediately after the end of the war at the time there was lot of heat on Mahinda’s tail. He needed a lot of support from the people, … goodwill of the International Community.

            Native,

Just because you want something to be true doesn’t make it true. You cannot rewrite history. GG Ponnambalam rejected federalism because he wanted 50-50 representation.

“The federal cry is not a new phenomenon to Sri Lanka. It was originated by the Sinhalese in 1925. At that crucial time, the Tamils preferred a unitary system of government to that of a federal form. The Sinhala leaders vigorously propagated the concept of federal formula but the Tamils vehemently despised it. The Tamils wanted representation on the basis of communal interests within a unitary state. “

“G.G.Ponnambalam, who possessed a unique forensic skill and a mesmeric style in the art of cross-examination of witnesses and was a silver tongue orator mooted out the fifty-fifty demand – a balanced representation within the unitary character of the Constitution. In 1937 when the Reform for the Constitution was considered G.G.Ponnambalam advanced this formula before the Governor, Sir Andrew Caldecott. However, the Governor rejected his formula.”

Whether SJV signed the Vaddukodai Resolution or not is irrelevant. It would not have passed without his permission. He was the architect. You cannot DENY that SJV was a separatist.

“I have no idea what was in his head at the time of Neelan’s assassination.”

So much so, world Democratic Societies voted for him to be their chairman: the only elections he won in his own right!! ………. If you doubt me, ask Native.

The FUTA has looked at only one appointment. The whole system is so corrupt and of doubtful standard that we need a 7 member Commission to look into them all.

The Yahapalanaya star corruption investigator Ravi Wadiyalankarawas in charge of the multi-million fraud Krish investigation. It went no where .Today this Ravi Wadiyalankara has become a Director of Krish ( which he investigated as a Policeman!)

Mohan Peiris as a judge heard so many cases concerning the Rajapaksa family and Executive misdeeds. When ne was removed by President Sirisena, Mohan Peiris as Chief Justice begged Sirisena not to remove him saying I will give any judgement you want !

The latest is that retired Supreme Court judges are immediately getting appointed as Directors of banks and dubious Finance companies as they retire. Obviously the negotiations would have happened while the guy was still a judge. Did he do favours for these banks/finance companies or any other director of these companies ? These things are hidden from the public.

In other countries upon retirement there is a cooling period of about 3 years before a judge gets another job, especially with institutions which have many cases pending in courts.

Sri Lanka is a country without any ethics or standards

There is a speech to be delivered tonight in Washington. My view is that after so many uncertainties spread when WWII was dawn, it is now the world in such a bad shape. I wonder if the person who is going to deliver this speech or the audience going to watch it sense the importance of it. I do not expect this speech to deliver any solution to the crisis people are now in, i.e., from Kiev to Colombo, to Port Au Prince, Gaza through Washington. From 1948, though there was so much destruction in the country, Langkang people realized for the first time that they were living in dreams for 75 years only when the Covid – 19 struck in 2019. 1953, 1977, 2015’s political turmoil did not have the current level of enlightenment Langkang has now. They were kept in gloomy land with election campaigns indulged in hallucination that they were the world’s third largest superpower. When reality struck that they are nothing but one of the five poorest nations in the world, they are dumbfounded. In 2009, India and America created a second Iran in the Indian Ocean. Now, while everybody is busy with firefighting a single spot of wildfire Israel- Hamas, the true fire set with hope of reducing the world to ashes is ballooning without any ability in the world to douse it at the bud.

Those who are fighting for Palestine are waiting Ukraine be turned into another Chechnya soon. Americans as people and government are only pouring gasoline in without any clue until it blows out as an uncontrollable world war. Americans have lost the capacity to act meaningfully and lead the occasion. Those Modayas are wondering if they had anything to do with it or if they are obligated to act on it at the appropriate time, without waiting. Some are even preaching about the destruction the fighting brings and the sins related to that. This is what the Bhagwat Geeth teaches, the sin man created does not disappear itself; it is the duty of the man to fight war to wipe off all the sin he created; then sow the grace for the world to flourish.
How India and America created a second Iran in Langkang, the same way Britain and Germany created the next Nazis in Russia, in the past couple of years. Chancellor Markel wanted an unchallenged Germany, on the demolition of united Europe so she made deals with Putin’s Russia and weakened the Democratic nations. Now the sanctions on Russia only backfired on the world economy but has not produced any fruit. What a glamorous foresighted trade pact M/s Markel made with Russia! Britain showed to Russia how weak and worthless NATO with its Brexit.

      Hello Mallaiyuran,
The UK never left NATO. Brexit was the process of leaving the EU (European Union). The UK still has a strategic Nuclear Submarine Fleet with at least one of the UK’s nuclear-armed ballistic missile submarines patrolling the seas undetected every minute of every day, and has done so for over 50 years. https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/equipment/submarine
NATO now has 2 new members Finland and Sweden which makes 32 countries with around 12 of them ex USSR countries https://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/topics_52044.htm Why did they join NATO if Russia was no threat to them. Putin has a dream to restore the Empire of Peter the Great. Read Alexander Dugin to get an insight into Russian ideology and religion.
I have always been against the use of Nuclear Weapons, however some see them as a deterrent. MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) they think will stop first strikes. But if you have a totally unhinged leader with the keys to Launch, what can stop them?
Read about the Russian that prevented a Nuclear Strike https://www.armscontrol.org/act/2017-10/news-briefs/man-saved-world-dies-77
Don’t underestimate European and American capabilities

      Best regards

You are telling someone who cannot tell, for example, the difference between Russia and USSR.

          Karumum!
Had you watched President Biden’s speech last night, you would not have so sheepishly thrown your Mundhanai to protect Lankacot, hoping he will throw his one on you when you need it one day. If you have shame, can you copy from my comment and paste there that I was telling Britain to quit NATO?. Don’t play a clownish game with your short quips only to “hide and seek under others Mundhanai”. By saying that I don’t understand the difference between Russia and USSR, you’re only trying to downplay the apparent truth that in the past I had written that Putin and your Manaseeka mender Stalin are one and the same. Accept the truth, that Lankascot worked on that detailed comment on the assumption that I had said Britain left Brexit, but I was believing that Britain has left NATO, while Britain is still in NATO.
You are such a chaff, always raise your tails higher than lemurs and shriek louder than monkeys.

        Thank you LankaScot.
I am aware of that UK still in NATO. It was American politicians who said Russia can do anything with Europe, beyond NATO. But I notice with admiration the area you have covered on NATO’s wide wings. Still, I don’t think that your quotations give any explanation for the short-sighted business contract of Germany or the Britain breaking with the EU gave hope for Russia.

Anyway, the arms pile or how many small countries in NATO are not important, but its existence and the unity within its members should be able to maintain the peace without any war starting and it should protect democracy beyond Europe’s borders. Ukraine war is a serious dent in NATO’s unity. There is a deed signed and sealed as NATO, but members, demonstrating disloyalty, by perusing self-importance on related aspects (like economy, sub unions). Turkey is concerned about truly free, modern small nations joining the NATO. It is fearing the NATO union may expand its aspects beyond simple protection of Europe to secular religious protection, for which turkey cannot agree. It is comfortable with UK, USA, France, Germany like halfway houses. Non-Democratic nations respect no borders. One in the north, one in the south, one in the West, one in the East and one in the middle. They all collaborate more efficiently than the democratic nation, or EU or NATO.

          Hello Mallaiyuran,
Have a look at this fairly objective article from the Guardian on Germany’s reasons for its dependence on Russian Oil and Gas “Berlin has been forced to accept that it was a cataclysmic error to have made itself so dependent on Russian energy – whatever the motives behind it.” – https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/jun/02/germany-dependence-russian-energy-gas-oil-nord-stream
Also remember East Germany was part of the Soviet Union until the Wall came down and they reunited in October 1990. Also Ukraine is not part of NATO. When the Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych stopped Ukraine joining the EU they had the Maidan Revolution and Yanukovych fled to Russia. The Russians occupied Crimea in 2014 and supported secessionists (with Russian troops in unmarked uniforms) in the Donbass etc. Putin has never forgiven Gorbachev and wants to recreate a Russian Empire.
I am no fan of Autocrats like Erdogan and Orban, however they are part of NATO and have a voice. Erdogan objected to Sweden joining because he disliked their support for the Kurds. Finland which has a huge border with Russia also joined NATO because Russia invaded Ukraine. Orban is a Trump supporter and a friend of Putin (just like Trump).
          Best regards

You know, democratic countries have too many organizations for their protection, but they don’t collaborate with each other as enemies of the democracies do, even without any true organization to give them umbrella protection for them. Their strategy is using the opportunities as and when they arise, without failing, though not with the true aim of making a team. They are simply avoiding compromising, or for a need for overready state. This is letting them have a friendlier relationship than the NATO’s stress filled inside. If Russia invades Ukraine, they all are waiting with open eyes to see how well to use this opportunity to realize their objective at their borders. Just a few Rebels at Yerman are threatening the Red Sea traffic, using the Israeli-Hamas war. America, Britain, EU, India…… miserably failing to stop it. If Russia took the shape of the Houthis, what do you think would happen to the world’s normal functions? President Putin started in Chechnya, moved to Georgia, Crimea and has come up to Ukraine. When Georgia was attacked American warships were in Black Sea. Now NATO openly supported Ukraine, but Russia was not intimidated. The Ukraine war with Covid-19 broke the back bone of Langkang like unstable countries. The start of Ukraine war was not deterred by the presence of NATO.

The usual starting point of love triangle and destruction to the original lovers’ life go corrupt when one partner shows a crack in their unity. Even if that crack may not have had enough leverage on that occasion for the culprit to insert the one into the lover’s relationship, but that one mostly succeeds on holding fissure as twig to float in the ocean, where the one finds no support, until he finds an appropriate opening to fully insert inside. My point is, “don’t Britain leaving the EU is an indication for Russia to work more on that crack and start to attack Britain first, while some others still hold the grudge on Britain for starting a path to the destruction of the great union – EU. Remember my comment has another line too, Germany bending the Union for its advantage and did dangerous deals with Russia. Now most of the advantages Germany earned are lost, though Germany has become the world third largest economic power house.

As a matter of fact, after the devastation of Covid-19, America is very strong in many aspects. I don’t see any reason why citizens and Administration lack capacity to use that strength to lead forward instead engaged in petty brawls like Roe. V. Wade, an issue long passed by Americans, as a civilized nation. Do these American Modayas want some Classical leaders like Lincoln, Gandhi, or Mandela like to be reborn to tell them that the women have or have not right on their procreative ability? What a shame the Court and Congress are trying to show them as heroes by reinventing the wheel on this long passed, dead issue. In their opinion, these disillusioned (anti) reformists see them as the heroes who are protecting Jesus from being crucified in order to re-establish the sanctity of the Christianity, but he was sacrificed 2000 years ago. They are dragging back the civilized world to the case that was tried 2000 years ago in the Roman dictator’s court, to win election connecting with a past, old court case called Roe V Wade. This is where the falsehood of democracy flourishing in the election rhetoric, the puny Tasmanian Devil (Langkang), which thinks it is a lion, and the 200 years old self established, matured democracy (America) is equalizing each other.

Otherwise, in the Langkang case, how would a nation crown itself as the Wonder of Asia by its own hand only turned out to be poor, filthy, beggars controlled and enslaved and employed by murderous, tyrannical, kleptocracy criminals?

America has a whole lot of different stories. The reproductive rights of American women are now deciding whether the gained democracy by so many millions’ sacrifice in Eastern Europe must be abandoned or to be protected.
Tonight, speech in Washington may not change anything in the near future on contemporary burning issues. But the coming fall has the capacity to make America pick back the spear it lost from its hand and the Langkang instead of in their illusion, truly establish it as the world’s third super power, by creating or quashing the proposed WW III in the Indo-Pacific landscapes.

The coming election in the fall is going to decide whether the ruled Ceylon can rise back to rule again, or its fate was decided, permanently in 1931 by its Universal Franchise. One important factor it depends on it is whether NPP has ability to break away from usual election campaign rhetoric of UNP-SLFP union of how to make the Langkang a Milk and Honey flowing wonder of Asia by importing more rice from Moon but gaining cooperation of the masses to steer for a true systemic change.

The Evil rascal is saying the Langkang’s 70% inflation (but the actual calculated by Western specialists was above 150%; Evil only downplaying his mate’s destruction, while boosting him high) is now 6%. For how long this rascal is in politics, who has labeled Langkang’s inflation of 70% is normal, but he only made it to 6%. He said India gave an unwanted loan of $4.5B to Old Rowdies Royals, but that is the one Evil used to make the foreign exchange and inflation look normal, temporarily. Yet two months ago he claimed it was negative (he artificially made it appear like that), but now he thinks that the Modayas’ two weeks memory span is gone, so he is overwriting it with something new. Inflation is not something that sits in McDonalds deep freezer, for the master Chef Evil, just to pull it out and dip in the boiling animal fat and distribute it as “Vola La frite!” Those real indicators, truly connected to the country’s real growth, which has disillusioned and dodged the Sinhala Buddhist Intellectuals like Evil, for the past 75 years. But after the fall election, these classic Mahavamsa lies will be burning in the country that awaits to burn, even as per IMF’s prediction, the reason they sighted to give the loan, without Langkang fulfilling the conditions.

So, when every time there is challenge invitation to NPP for an Economic Nobel Prize debate, they should politely just slap it on the hand and should talk to people about the system change, which is a path to walk away from the past legacy of UNP-SLFP union running the country with election rhetoric, and a macro perspective for plan and act.

Deshabandu Tennakoon is the perfect embodiment of all that is wrong in this country.
The country has been made insecure by the Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles.

Tyran Alles was selected to run the protection of Sovereignty show by arresting poor, innocent, and weak drug addicts, only after the IMF released its Governance Audit on Langkang’s Appe Aanduwas. IMF’ second tranche was released because the IMF forecasted that there was going to be a riot. Now the IMF will release the third tranche because the Tyran Allies had fixed all the deficiencies pointed out in the Governance Audit report of the IMF. Last time Runaway Hitler King crowned Evil as the Emperor of the Wild Life Sanctuary, SinhaLE Lankawe. This time the IMF will be doing that. Inflation is rising high, importers choked on the throat to show improvements in Forex, America is holding the debtors from suing Langkang while Evil is keeping fingers crossed to force the debtors to agree for loan reduction. These all will create a big bang when the new government comes to power. Unlike the previous UNP-SLFP union, it is the NPP’s duty to keep the masses informed about the developments.
