Genocide In Gaza; One Year On! Shameful Indifference Towards Israeli Impunity!

By Mohamed Harees –

Lukman Harees

October 7 marks one year since Israel with full US patronage launched the genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza, as the first phase of a regional war throughout the Middle East that is now metastasizing into a US-Israeli war on Iran. The toll of the war of extermination against the civilians of Gaza is staggering. Between 40,000 people, according to official figures, and 186,000 people, according to an estimate published in the authoritative medical journal The Lancet, have been killed by Israeli bullets, bombs, or through famine or preventable disease. The entire remaining population of Gaza is being starved by Bibi & Co., with “the highest number of people facing catastrophic hunger ever recorded by the Integrated Food Security Classification system—anywhere, anytime,” in the words of UN Secretary General António Guterres. Up until 7 October, Palestinians were anyway going through a period of a very slow but systematic genocide. Since 7 October, it’s still a genocide. It’s just faster paced.

The official justification for the genocide and ethnic cleansing now underway is the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel by Hamas. The US media seeks to present the events of October 7 as a bolt from the blue, an unexpected sneak attack by Hamas that could not have been predicted and which had no antecedent factors. But this narrative fell apart within a matter of months. In December 2023, the New York Times published a report revealing that the Israeli government was in possession of the exact document that laid out “point by point” the plan for the attack, which was “implemented with alarming accuracy.” The official UN inquiry on the October 7 attacks asserted “that Israeli authorities failed to protect civilians in southern Israel on almost every front.” It was likewise revealed that a significant portion of Israeli casualties were killed by Israeli forces themselves, who fired indiscriminately into settlements where Hamas was operating, and deliberately targeted Israelis being held hostage. According to an official UN inquiry into the attack, Israeli forces “applied the so-called ‘Hannibal Directive’ and killed… Israeli civilians.”

On September 22, 2023, just two weeks before the October 7 attacks, Netanyahu displayed a map at the United Nations General Assembly of the “new Middle East,” showing Israel encompassing all of the Palestinian territories, as part of a geopolitical framework with the US-aligned Middle Eastern states of Egypt, Sudan, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. One year later, it is clear that Israel and the US seized upon the events of October 7 to implement this vision, as Bibi once again reiterated this viscous plan in his speech at the UN this September. If the ferocity and homicidal character of this effort have become more intense, it is because the US-Israeli genocidal war in the Middle East part of a decades-long effort by US imperialism to subjugate the whole of the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa, a continuation of the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan, the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and the regime change operations in Libya and Syria. Now, one year later, the imperialist powers are making advanced preparations for a major strike on Iran.

Those, whose image of Israel is primarily shaped by the West – its politicians and media, may ask in retrospect ,how the so-called the land of “tolerance”, “only democracy in the Middle East”, which shares their “western values”, kill so many , civilians and children, so blatantly violate international human rights law by cutting off humanitarian aid, bombing hospitals and schools, and destroying all 12 of Gaza’s universities, kill at least 172 journalists, deliberately target their families, and not allow any international media into Gaza, and descending into fascism before our eyes – openly celebrating and advocating for the mass extermination of Arabs? They only need to look bit further!

Those familiar with the Zionist ideology that underpins Israelis’ presence in Palestine, however, will know that Zionist ideology and the founding fathers of Zionism, including David Ben-Gurion, who headed the Jewish Agency and became the first prime minister of Israel, openly advocated for territorial expansion and the displacement of Palestinians (through force if necessary). The 1948 Nakba was the first enactment of this ambition. Given Israel’s history, built as it is on a racist, settler-colonial ideology, the genocide in Gaza is entirely consistent with Zionism’s internal logic. Indeed, Palestinian scholars have long considered the Nakba to be an ongoing process rather than a single event.

For much of the past year though, Israel has failed not only to achieve anything of military significance in the Gaza Strip, but it has also failed to enunciate a strategy. It has been just a case of a repetition of ‘Nazi’ style extermination of a specified group of people as the ICJ case stressed. Israel’s ultimate aim is regime change in Iran, an emerging Nuclear power, on the mistaken assumption that an Iranian government disengaged from the conflict with Israel will transform the Palestinians, and Arabs more generally, into powerless sheep. Israel appears to be convinced that the road to Tehran runs through the southern suburbs of Beirut.

Israel’s agenda requires it to engineer a direct military confrontation between Washington and Tehran, and in US Biden, it may well have found the candidate that has thus far eluded it. Yet Lebanon has repeatedly proved to be the graveyard of Israel and American hubris. A year of killing has stripped away layers of assumptions and illusions. One is Bibi’s belief that he could manage the Palestinian issue without making concessions to their demands for self-determination. With that went the wishful thinking that had comforted his worried Western allies- the leaders in the US and UK, and others, who convinced themselves that Netanyahu could dance to their tunes. Instead, he has begun to bite them.

True! much of public opinion in the West gradually changed from pro-Israel in the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s to more pro-Palestinian today. But this is not reflected in UN votes, where the US still supports Israel and most Western states abstain. When we look at what happened with the global anti-Apartheid movement in South Africa, one of the things that was really important was that the last country to stop supporting Apartheid South Africa was the United States. There was a global anti-Apartheid movement of boycott, divestment and sanctions. The same is already taking shape in Palestine. However, it is not the same as in South Africa, in that the Zionist movement is certainly more entrenched, it’s larger than the Apartheid movement was.

The past decades show a lack of global leadership. In climate or political conflicts or wherever, we’ve yet to see a global leader who is able to stand up and have a backbone. Instead, they play these little games of manoeuvring back and forth. It took weeks before the UN secretary general called for a ceasefire. It took months before any of the global leadership called for a ceasefire. The US vetoed the first attempt to have a ceasefire resolution. We could have spared thousands of lives if they hadn’t vetoed it and allowed UN to work out a feasible settlement culminating in the realisation of Palestine Statehood. Nothing that was done on 7 October justifies this genocide. We are in a place and space where we should be looking at the perpetrator and ask whether this makes sense for them in the long term to continually live by the sword rather than understand that Palestinians deserve their freedom.

The Zionist partners in crime- Israel/US’ plan has always been to make Gaza unliveable. Since 1948, they lived by the sword. And that will remain so until the world community steps forward and says, enough is enough. But this approach appears to be too remote and infeasible, in a world ruled by capitalistic and self-centered leaders with a warped moral values and hypocrisy. As the world marks the first anniversary of this latest Israeli onslaught on Palestine, it is clear that the people of Gaza, ( and also West Bank) continue to suffer under one of the most destructive Genocides in human history. The figures represent more than just numbers; they tell a harrowing story of loss, resilience and the urgent need for more robust international humanitarian intervention.

Positive Hopes and Road blocks

The brutal Israeli war prompted South Africa to file a case at the ICJ in The Hague accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza. Several countries joined the genocide case against Israel, including Türkiye, Nicaragua, Spain, Mexico, Libya and Colombia. Last May, the top U.N. court ordered Israel to halt its offensive in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. It was the third time the 15-judge panel issued preliminary orders seeking to rein in the mounting death toll in Gaza and alleviate humanitarian suffering in the blockaded enclave. The devastating offensive also triggered mass protests across the world demanding an immediate end to the Israeli war on the Palestinian enclave.

As Israel’s genocide on Gaza continues, international recognition of the Palestinian state and support for its bid for full United Nations membership has also grown. In May, Spain, Norway, and Ireland officially recognized the state of Palestine, followed by Slovenia and Armenia in June. This brought the total number of countries recognizing Palestine to 149 out of the 193 member states of the U.N. In a vote on May 10, the UN General Assembly approved a resolution acknowledging that Palestine meets the membership criteria outlined in Article 4 of the UN Charter. Although the resolution does not grant full membership, it calls on the UN Security Council to revisit Palestine’s application, further underscoring international backing for Palestinian self-determination. But, US will not relent.

While public support for Palestine grows, the same change has not occurred among “the people who have the privilege and capacity to change things.  It is growing among the youth and growing among people of the working class. There is much more understanding of what the Israeli project means, and much more clarity about what is settler colonization, what is genocide, and who are the Palestinians. Yet, the UK’s position for example, has been stringently repetitive. It stands with Israel’s right to defend itself, which, again, from an international legal perspective, Israel does not have the right to defend itself against Palestine. That’s what the ICJ said. It’s been said 1,000 times, yet politicians keep on repeating it.”

Genocide in Gaza has become an illustration of the moral malaise of the political establishment in most of the West, which, in the face of unprecedented public mobilisation, continued to stand side-by-side with Israel and its apparently unfettered “right to defend itself”. The moral compass and the conscience has been tainted by the blood of the innocent, being partners in crime and accomplices, particularly the US and the UK. Thus, after nearly 365 days of seeing Israeli violence live-streamed, it is easy for Palestinian suffering to become normalised – a danger only exacerbated by decades of dehumanisation of Arab and Muslim life. To ensure Israel could rampage through the Gaza Strip with impunity and escape any accountability for its actions, Israel’s western sponsors and allies, led by the US, willingly shredded the rulebook of international law and the norms and values that underpin it.

Israel’s position as a base for US geopolitical interests in the Middle East explains why stronger international actions have not been taken. There is a very clear indication that the big US scarecrow is one of the reasons why states are afraid to take a position, and there is also fear of abiding by NATO obligations. Analysts criticize the recognition decisions as being merely “symbolic,” saying countries continue to allow arms sales and trade with Israel, which enables it to sustain its genocide. This is international “hypocrisy.” US ‘decisions are being made completely on the premises of geopolitics and economics and whatever serves the status quo to remain as it is. It is disgusting to see that the most hypocritical are, unfortunately, the Arab and Muslim countries, when South Africa—neither an Arab nor Muslim country, took the courageous step of filing a genocide case against Israel in the World Court. The Gazan genocide thus has put Western and Muslim Hypocrisy on full display.

Overall, the so-called “rules-based order” of the international system that emerged after World War II is finished. The West no longer has credibility when it criticizes Russia, China, Iran, Myanmar or any other state for human rights abuses or breaches of international law.

Disgust and disillusionment with the West is growing in the Global South. Western hypocrisy in Gaza is having real geopolitical implications. The much-vaunted values of Western society and its claims about international law, human rights and democracy have collapsed on the sands and beaches of Gaza. The West’s double standards have been exposed when comparing its positions over Ukraine and Palestine. This is something that will have repercussions on all international relations, because Gaza — small in size but big in strength of will — has exposed the blatant dishonesty of the world. Also, there is much to be written and said on the brink of the first anniversary of the genocidal war, but the note will not be complete without saluting the heroic people of Gaza, which has become an unparalleled icon of human values and the steadfastness, and of the struggle of all oppressed nations. Generally, it’s easy to be pessimistic. Yet, there is hope. So, lets ensure our voices grow louder and demand justice for the Palestinian cause!

Russia and China might highlight that if the U.S. supports Israel while breaking international law, it sets a precedent for others to do the same. They could argue that this could justify their own actions in conflicts, as it shows that powerful countries can ignore global rules without consequences. This could lead to more nations disregarding international law, causing further instability and making it harder to maintain global peace.Glabal majority supports palestine.

When the US backs a criminal state, the entire Western bloc follows suit.
What is needed is action that hurts.
Not just Iran, Arab states too should do their part. The US cannot afford the enmity of too many Arab states

        Hello SJ,
There were very few British Politicians that stood against the Iraq War. Robin Cook was one of them. Here is a link to the transcript of his Resignation Speech. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/robin-cook-speech-transcript-full-8357795
Keir Starmer should read it carefully. He may discover (but I doubt it) the meaning of Integrity.
I try to follow the US State Department Press Briefings as much as I can. Over time the Duplicity of the US has been demonstrated, time after time, in these briefings. Some Journalist in the future (soon I hope) will document the catalogue of lies, misinformation and evasions displayed by the various US Spokespeople in these and other briefings.
Many in this forum do not like Al Jazeera, however without their Journalist’s reports we would have no record of the Genocide that is taking place. Israel does not allow Foreign Journalists into Gaza and has killed many local Journalists, Medics and UN Workers. As you said “the US does not care two hoots.”

Author has shown shameful indifference towards Srilanka impunity on genocide of Tamils fifteen years on, where Muslims were a complicity. Islamism is a threat worldwide unlike Zionism with persecution of non-Muslims in several countries. There was ethnic cleansing of one million Hindus in Bangladesh few months ago, for which there was no condemnation from Muslims. Middle east conflict was started by Muslims, who did not accept Israel which was created according to Biblical prophesy and has divine protection. Bible says that enemies of Israel will be defeated. This is the fourth attempt by Muslims to destroy Israel and will fail.

Who was responsible for the Mosque mass killings in the Eastern province?

          • 5
            5

The mosque killing only happened after the burning destruction and mass killings of many Tamil Hindus, many deliberately locked in and burnt alive with the Hindu temple by heavily armed Islamic home guards, who were armed by the Sinhalese Sri Lankan state and trained by Israel. In many instances the Sri Lankan Special Task force was keeping guard around the perimeter of the Tamil village, whilst the Islamic home guards committed these atrocities. The Mosque attacked was weel known for its Islamic extremism and was acting as the headquarters of the Islamic home Guards and their arms depot. Many of the victims there were Islamic home guards and not innocent civilians but the Sri Lankan state and their allies, like you deliberately distorted the truth. Kept quiet about the reason and what led to the mosque attack but only deliberately published about the mosque attacks but not the other atrocities by the Islamic home guards.

Strange after the mosque attack, attacks on Tamil Hindu villages in the east by the Islamic home guards ceased. Proving that mosque was the centre of Islamic extremism then as now. Kattankudi and this same mosque was also the centre of the Easter Sunday attack against Christian Churches and hotels. Speaks volumes. You are fully aware of all this but deliberately distort this.

Racist fiction! Here is just one incident. In 1990, Nintavur village was rounded up by the security forces and Muslim Home Guards. 64 youth’s males and females were taken to the Nintavur Murugan Temple. They were slain and shot. Those killed and the groaning t were set on fire along with the temple. There is no trace of the existence of a temple at this site which was once a recognised place of Hindu worship. This once Hindu Tamil area, is now a no-go area for Tamils and is now a Muslim region. This is just one example.

What is the opposite of Tamil nationalists? It is Sinhala nationalists. It includes this gentleman who served for Sinhala Buddhist SWRD family. The words imperialism, communism are used by this gentleman without sense. Imperialism is a policy of extending a country’s power and influence through colonization, use of military force, or other means which is used by his own Sinhala nationalists.

Mohamed Harees, regarding genocide in Gaza, the world is aware that on October 7th, 2023, Hamas terrorists from Gaza with weaponry received from Iran, having built an extremely complicated tunnel system to work from, with entry to Egypt, started an attack on Israel, killing a large number of innocent civilians, and taking a large number of hostages to negotiate with. The next day, Hezbollah from Lebanon started attacking Israel. Israel had the right to defend itself and its God-given land in Genesis 13,15 to Abraham and his descendants in an eternal covenant, the reason being that Jesus was birthed in that land to forgive the sins of humans by his crucifixion, resurrection and ascension. He is coming back again to Jerusalem, capital of Israel. Rev.19,11. Netanyahu believes the bible and wars which follow lead to deaths of humans.

          Hello Doctor,
The Elamites are still there in an area called Khuzestan; they don’t need to get their lands back. The Biblical reference is to some of the elite Elamites that were exiled to Samaria in Palestine around 640 BCE. Later on they (Elamites in Susa) formed an important part of the Persian Achaemenian dynasty.

Just in case DTG doesn’t reply here is a few words from Ezekiel 38:15
“you will come from your place in the far north, you and many nations with you, all of them riding on horses, a great horde, a mighty army. 16 You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud that covers the land. In days to come, Gog, I will bring you against my land, so that the nations may know me when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.”

SJ, read Ezek.38 where Gog and Magog from far north mentioned as Rosh, Meshech and Tubal where God is against them Ezekiel is told to prophecy against them. Rosh is Russia. Meshech and Tubal is the region of Turkey today where land boundaries are not the same as in Ezekiel’s day. Persia (Iran today) Ethiopia and Libya(Gaddafi killed) Gomer has German Reich population from probable Nazi Germany. I am not an expert, but I will know when they gather if I am still alive. Chinese army has still to go across the belt and road they prepared, and according to Rev.16,12 where river Euphrates drives up to go and join Iran. Gen.12,2 gives additional information on origin of Gomer, Magog, Tubal, Meshech as from Noah’s son Japheth. They fall on mountains of Israel. Ezek.39,2 More.

Does the Bible say anything about the Israelis, soon after declaring UDI in May. 1948, Terrorising Palestinians and Forcing over 700.000 Palestinians to flee from their homes and settle down in neighbouring Arab countries as Refugees where they and their descendants are still living as Refugees?

Revelations is at the end of the bible to know the truth about the future. How can anyone show it in the Torah which is at the beginning of the bible. Mental confusion leads nowhere

              You are lying.
“Survey findings published the day before Friday’s Tel Aviv’s Pride Parade showed that an all-time high of 79 percent of Israelis support same-sex marriage or civil unions.

The poll commissioned by the Hiddush organization for religious pluralism reflected a consistent rise in public backing “for the official establishment of state-recognized same-sex partnerships in Israel,” Hiddush wrote in a press release accompanying the results.”

          Hello DTG,
You are being a little bit disingenuous here. “The Hebrew Bible is organized into three main sections: the Torah, or “Teaching,” also called the Pentateuch or the “Five Books of Moses”; the Neviʾim, or Prophets; and the Ketuvim, or Writings. It is often referred to as the Tanakh”
All three sections have their equivalent in the Old Testament. Now which Hermeneutical stance do you take in your analysis of the Bible – the literal, moral, allegorical, or anagogical?
The Jews do not believe that Jesus was the Messiah. They also do not believe in the Trinity, much like the Arians (Council of Nicea).
Revelations is part of the New Testament and nothing to do with Jewish belief. It wasn’t written by the Apostle John and it wasn’t until the end of the 4th Century that it was included as an acceptable Book of the Bible.

              Helo SJ,
You OC and many others can read between the lines and also know how to use Sarcasm and Irony. DTG dislikes both, possibly for the same reason that he reads and interprets the Bible literally.
I have a few friends that are extremely good Programmers, however they are somewhere on the “Autistic Spectrum” when it comes to social relations.
I am sure that you (and others) have noted DTG’s defence of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He recognises (reluctantly) kindred spirits when he sees or hears of them.
When I asked DTG about the Prophet Judah’s immoral behaviour, it reminded me of Bill Clinton’s denial regarding Monica Lewinsky. He said “I did not have sex with that woman”. A very narrow interpretation.

LankaScot, Rev.1,1 says Revelation of Jesus Christ was given to his servant John. Rev.1,3 says you are blessed if you read it and keep it. Rev.4,1 says with open door to heaven ” Come up here. I will show you things which must take place after this.” A word of advice to you. You only understand each step as you have completed doing the last step. Unbelief causes no progress.

I feel sorry for the Palestinians and what is happening to them, however this war was started by Hamas that is backed by Iran and hardliner Netanyahu and other Israeli hawks took full advantage of the situation to inflict so much misery on the population in Gaza. Similarly, now another Iranian backed Shiite group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon has deliberately escalated it and started another war there, and now they are aided and abetted by the Iranian backed Yemeni Houthis and even by non-Arab Shiite Iran to create more chaos in the region. Strange all these groups are backed and financed not by largely Sunni Arab states but by Shiite Iran, that is using them as a proxy to create chaos in the region and does not care what happens to largely Sunni Palestinian and other Arab population. Other than in Iraq which has a 51% Shiite population, most Arabs or Arabic speakers belong to Sunni sects and Shiites amongst them are a minority.

    • 14
      5

Even in Lebanon other than in the Shiite south, Hezbollah is hated by the Christian and Sunni Arabic speaking majority and they really want them also to be eradicated as they consider them a menace. Arabs and Iranians (Persians or Farsi speakers) generally do not like each other. The largely Indo-European Iranians look down on the Semitic speaking Arabs. The Iranians are Shiites and the Arabs overwhelmingly Sunni, and this includes the Palestinians. All this has been started and being escalated by Iranian backed and financed Shiite extremist groups, to deliberately create chaos and destruction and the 99% of the victims are Sunni Arabs. Especially the poor Palestinians. Mostly probably Persian Shiite Iran does not care as it has its own agenda and Jewish extremists and hardliners are also happy, as these groups have now given them an excuse to further marginalize, kill and displace Palestinians on a large scale and grab more of their land in the name of security and peace.

It is because this is my comment that he is attacking for the sake of attacking, It would have been the same even if another Tamil commented he would have done the same but would have done the opposite if a non-Tamil posted something similar. Recently I had to see a married Afghan female in her mid-thirties. She has been given refugee status and came with her husband and small daughter. She is blind. After the fall of the Taliban, she was a police officer and when the Taliban returned, to power again, she fell foul with them for some reason. They shot her a few times but did not die and finally they captured her and gouged out her eyes as a punishment.

Two one was a Malaysian Tamil most probably of Sri Lankan or Jaffna origin as this person always referred him or her as Jaffnese, I really found this person very obnoxious, with regards to the way he spoke about ordinary Sinhalese. The other person was a Catholic Tamil from Melbourne Australia, who was married to a Sinhalese lady. He was living in a nursing home. He has not been active here for years, most probably gone to Jesus.

Other Tamils are not racist, we may be vociferous with regards to what happened to us for our rights and our history, that is deliberately being ignored and erased by the Sri Lankan state or Sinhalized. During the JR regime there was serious attempt to create a Sinhalese identity to the Tamil Vanni chief Pandara Vanniyan who was the last Tamil ruler, both in South India and on the island. They deliberately started to call him Vanni Bandara but it failed. Despite all this no Tamil ever advocates the marginalization of the Sinhalese or even the Muslims, as many of them come here and do and gloat on it. Some overtly others covertly and a self-hating Tamil supports all this.

I wonder if the author is aware that a similar incident took place in SL not so long ago when civilians in the north were caught up in a crossfire & subjected to indiscriminate bombing by the SL military? Although human rights groups & the Red Cross protested about civilian casualties, it was dismissed as ‘collateral’ damage. Then there was an allegation of kangaroo courts & vigilantism by the SL military, as well as, the case of ‘disappeared’ Tamils, including non combatants, who surrendered to the military. MR & subsequent Presidents vowed to save the war ‘heroes’ from prosecution but now with a righteous President & his party soon to take charge, will the author fight for justice of his fellow citizens? If his heart bleeds more for his brothers in arms far away, maybe he should emigrate to Iran where is services would be welcome.

Civilians in Gaza & Lebanon are indeed going through hell but lets not forget the 100 hostages still kept captive 1 year later by the Hamas. People of Gaza voted for Hamas, allowed miles of tunnels to be built under their homes, allowed hospitals & schools to be used for military purposes, celebrated the killings of Israeli civilians, cheered & spat at dehumanised hostages paraded by Hamas, proudly showed off small children carrying weapons, so, Mr Harees, if you sleep with dogs, expect to wake up with flees.

      Hello Raj-UK,
The only time that a large amount of Hostages were released was through negotiation. Netanyahu and the Israeli Government have no intention of negotiating any Ceasefire that would allow hostages to be released.
So because “People of Gaza voted for Hamas” you can equate the deaths of 42,000 Palestinians with the continued captivity of 100 Hostages?
I condemn the War Crimes committed by Hamas and others on October the 7th that killed 1200 or so Israelis (and other nationalities) mostly Civilians.
Now do you condemn the killing of 42,000 (which includes around 17,000 Children) by the Israelis?

            Hello DTG,
“unnecessary” and deliberate are two different words. These are not “unnecessary civilian deaths” in Gaza (or Lebanon and the West Bank). They are deliberate targeting of Civilians. There are multiple Reports produced by Amnesty, Save the Children and the most recent, a UN Commission of Inquiry Report that accused Israel of “committing war crimes and the crime against humanity of extermination with relentless and deliberate attacks on medical personnel and facilities”.
Read the report for yourself https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2024/10/un-commission-finds-war-crimes-and-crimes-against-humanity-israeli-attacks

              LS,

The pro-Israel lobby in the U.S. won’t be as influential without the support of the Southern Evangelicals (SE). People with Scotch-Irish ancestry form a major part of SE. How do you explain that while Ireland and Scotland have been progressive and support Palestinians, people of the same stock became stridently pro-Israel after they migrated to the U.S. Is it simply the influence of the evangelical religious movement? As a Scottish person, you might have other insights into this.

I have pointed out that Israel as a country has been in existence only for 75 years, while Christianity goes back 2000 years, so I have asked them how they justify their views about Israel. They of course give me only evasive answers.

                Hello Agnos,
The Irish in the main were Catholic in the South and Protestant in the North. The Scots were Catholic in the West and parts of the Highlands. Most of the rest were Protestant.
The Non-Religious are now the Majority in Scotland (51% or so). In the 1950s and 60s the Church of Scotland was, by far, in the Majority.
The US is much more Christian than almost all other Countries. A large proportion of peoples emigrating from Europe were persecuted for their Religion. Baptists, Methodists, and Presbyterians (Evangelicals) had a history of persecution in the UK and Europe. The USA having no State Religion tolerated all of them.
Christianity goes back 2000 years, however it was a continuation as well as a break from Judaism, that had been around for 2000 years before that.
There were a couple of Religious Revivals that could explain the rise of Southern Evangelicals – the First and Second Great Awakenings. https://www.pbs.org/thisfarbyfaith/journey_2/p_3.html
How much of the Deep South is Evangelical may be explained by this Article https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2015/05/12/chapter-1-the-changing-religious-composition-of-the-u-s/

I was commenting on the hypocrisy of those who are vocal about the Israeli response to Hamas attack. In the last stages of the SL war with the LTTE, the perception was that all Tamils in the affected areas were LTTE sympathisers, therefore, ‘collateral’. Terrorist organisation, in the guise of freedom fighters, thrive on conflict but it is the citizens, sympathisers or not, who are affected. Hamas initiated the current violence with.a brutal attack on a settlement & a music festival, murdering women, children & old men, raping, dehumanising, torturing & murdering helpless hostages.. Which is to say the worst, by going on numbers? Hamas strategy was probably to provoke Israel to respond with vengeance, thereby, getting world sympathy. Israel is surrounded by enemies & has to defend it self, therefore, is sending a clear message not to mess with them & dissuade such future attacks.

I was horrified to see the Hamas attack & the cheering of Palatines, which were live streamed. The average Palestinian maybe coerced or brainwashed, even small children are radicalised, the parents proudly showing them off with assault weapons but Hamas have no consideration for their own people & use them as human shields. They need the publicity of the human suffering caused by the Israeli assault. Had Hamas attacked military targets, I have no qualms but what Hamas started effects civilians of both sides. The usual policy of nations is not to negotiate with hostage takers, & Israel, after initial negotiations, resorted to go after the Hamas leadership when subsequent negotiations failed as demands became more unrealistic. I am not condoning the violence of Israel forces but I can understand their position. However, my comment was to the author (& others who strongly condemn the Israeli attacks) if the same protest is applicable to the war time atrocities committed by the SL forces. Shouldn’t we be more concerned about justice for our fellow country men than on an event on which we have no control? Why only the plight of Palestinians, why not the Syrians attacked by Asad or Ukrainians by Putin? Violence begets violence but its the hypocrisy that pisses me off

Raj UK this immigrant converted South Indian Tamil origin Sri Lankan Muslims or Moors as they love to call themselves to have some sort of connection to once Muslim Andalusia and the Arab/Berber North Africa/Western Asia, will never criticize or mention what happened to the civilian Tamil population on the island at the hands of the Sri Lankan state. Even some right-thinking Sinhalese like you may but they will never, as look very carefully they had greatly benefited from this in the east and even in the south but the large-scale displacement, ethnic cleansing, resulting in almost a million native Tamils leaving the island and their marginalization.

In the east the once overwhelming native Tamil majority has been now reduced to 40% due to all these activities and large-scale state aided Sinhalese colonization of ethnically cleansed Tamil areas, especially in the past 40 years. In many parts of Trincomalee and especially in Amparai, many once thriving ancient Hindu Tamil areas have now been converted to Muslim or Sinhalese areas and have now become a no-go area for the original Tamil population. A very high proportion of the Tamil refugees in Indian are from the Trincomalee and Vanni areas and this is one of the reasons the Sri Lankan state and their partners in crime, hardly take any interest to bring them back, as this will increase the Tamil percentage and population in the east. They came to the ancient Hindu Tamil east as refugees, fleeing persecution claiming to be fellow Tamils and were given refuge, land and Hindu Tamil Mukkuva women as wives to marry and start a family, now deny all this, and now with the help of the Sinhalese state and the illegal Sinhalese colonizers in the east, claim the ancient Tamil east, over the heads of the native Tamils and the Tamilized Vedda, who had lived there for over 3000 years, and ruled themselves until European colonizers, as their now all in the name of Islam and a fake Arab origin, that is only in their brainwashed mind.

They sit and cry shed crocodile tears not only here and everywhere else about the plight of the Palestinian Arabs, strange only for them but for not for other persecuted Muslims or others, thinking that they are crying for their fellow Arabs(sic) and think it is fashionable and will get them huge brownie points in the Arab/Islamic world and help them economically and politically in their so called agenda to advance themselves on the island at the expense of the native Tamils, especially in the east and take over the land and claim it for Islam and the alien Arabic culture. This was the reason that they were Arabising themselves, an Arab Islamic university was built on confiscated Tamil land in the east, Arabic writing, name boards and date palms in all major Muslim town in the east. Crept in claiming to be Tamil and now taking over claiming to be Arab. The Sinhalese state also encouraged all this until the Easter Sunday bombings, as this helped in their marginalization of the Tamils and their divide and rule policy and like the western coast Tamils, Colombo Chetties, Paravans/Bharatha before them successfully weaning and distancing them away from their Tamil origin and culture.

It was a win win situation for both, and they were the junior partner of the Sri Lankan state in their war against the Tamils, especially in the south and east and were starting in the north too but the LTTE found out in time and chased them away. They are shedding crocodile tears about the Palestinian Arabs and what the Jewish state is doing to them everywhere but are silent and greatly helped the Sinhalese Sri Lankan state displace over a million native Tamils, especially in the east, despite being Tamil themselves, all in the name of their religion, as it greatly advanced their agenda. They even went to the UN and lied there about what happened and many of their elite and politicians went to the Arab and Islamic world canvassing the racist Sinhalese Sri Lankan state and the war criminal genocidal Rajapakse state. What a bunch of opportunistic lying hypocrites. Now I await the response of a nasty spiteful self-hating Tamil.

The stupid American Government is a main partner in the “Gaza Genocide”. America continuously accuses Russia and Iran of violating Human Rights. But in actual fact, it is Israel that is the worst Human Rights violator in the world today, killing women and children while they are sleeping. America is second in the world for HR violations. Russia and Iran have not bombed innocent women and children, even in the Ukraine war or while bombing Israel.

Buddhist1, very ignorant if you think that in the Ukraine war, Russian bombing avoided civilian deaths. Laughable.

Targetting civilians is an Israeli specialty.

“….October 7 marks one year since Israel with full US patronage launched the genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza…..”

Really? Lukman which planet did you live in when Hams started this by killing 1200 Israelis? Your hypocrisy has no limits!!

Attacks in Palestinians have gone on for decades, and the likes of you never noticed anything.
I think that Hamas overall was right to strike.
Israel has isolated itself very badly and still unable to subdue Hamas.

      Hello Jit.
I was 14 when the Israelis (with Western supplied Aircraft, mostly French, Tanks – British and American) instigated the Six Day War (1967) and seized the Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula, the West Bank, Golan Heights and Jerusalem. Such was the Propaganda in the British Newspapers that I was the only one in my Class that decried the Israeli Bombings and Invasions.
This led to UN Resolution 242, which called for Israel’s withdrawal from the territories it had captured in the war in exchange for lasting peace.
They still have not complied with this Resolution passed on November 22, 1967.
So Hamas did not start this on October 7th 2023. The Palestinians have had their Houses and Lands stolen from them, even before the Nakba in 1948.
      Best regards

Islam has connection believe in all three prophets—Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (peace be upon them). In Islam, Moses and Jesus are highly respected as messengers of God.
